Chapter 11: Keep to the Code

(The Black Pearl crew rush onto the shore of the cave and scramble to get back in the boats but quickly realize the oars aren't there.)

Baxter: The oars are gone! Where are the oars?!

Vortex: The oars've gone missing! Find 'em!

(They then begin to scramble through the cave to find the oars. Alastor comes out of the shadows holding the oar Vaggie hit him with. The pirates stop moving when the see him and are stunned.)

Millie: You!

(Alastor looks behind him and then back at them.)

Moxxie: You're supposed to be dead!

Alastor: (jokingly) Am I not?

(They surround him and draw their weapons. Moxxie points his gun right in Alastor's face. Alastor starts stammering.)

Alastor: Pearlie... Per-lay-lee-loo... Par-lay-lee... Parsnip. Parsley. Par, partner, pardoner...

Millie: Parley?

Alastor: (smiles) That's the one! Parley! Parley!

(They all lower their weapons. Moxxie looks annoyed as someone demanded a parley when he wanted to attack them yet again.)

Moxxie: "Parley"!? Damn to the depths whatever muttonhead thought up "parley"!

Alastor: That would be the French.

(Outside in the island's bay, a long trail of oars float in the water leading to the Interceptor. Vaggie and Charlie climb aboard and are greeted by Angel Dust, Cherri Bomb, Niffty, Husk and the rest of Alastor's crew.)

Charlie: Not more pirates.

Angel Dust: Welcome aboard, Miss Charlie.

(She recognizes him from years ago.)

Charlie: (surprised) Mr. Angel Dust?

Angel Dust: (to Vaggie) Hey, sweetheart, where be Alastor?

(Charlie turns to her and gets even more surprised.)

Charlie: Alastor? Alastor Sparrow?

Vaggie: (somberly) He fell behind.

(She takes Charlie away. Angel and the others look at each other gloomily before Angel speaks.)

Angel Dust: (insistently) Keep to the Code.

Cherri Bomb: (calls out) Weigh anchor and hoist the sails! Split-quick, you dibbis!

(They prepare to set sail. Back in the cave. The crew step aside as Pentious slithers up to Alastor and stares at his former captain with disbelief.)

Pentious: How the blazes did you get off that island?

Alastor: (smugly) When you marooned me on that godforsaken spit of land, you forgot one very important thing, mate. I'm Captain Alastor Sparrow.

Pentious: (grins) Ah, well, I won't be makin' that mistake again. Everyone, you all remember Captain Alastor Sparrow?

(They all smile and nod their heads.)

Pentious: Kill him!

(He turns away as they gleefully point their weapons at him. Alastor, however, is unaffected.)

Alastor: The girl's blood didn't work, did it?

(Pentious' smile drops and he turns back to him.)

Pentious: Hold your fire!

(The pirates lower their weapons in disappointment. Pentious glares at Alastor with intrigue.)

Pentious: You know whose blood we need?

Alastor: (assuringly) I know whose blood you need.

(The Interceptor sails on the open sea at full sail. As the crew mans the ship, Charlie and Vaggie are alone below deck sitting at a table. Charlie tries to bandage the wound on her hand. The two of them told each other their stories since Charlie was abducted. Charlie told her why they took her and Vaggie told her that she believed Alastor wanted to give her up in exchange for the Black Pearl.)

Charlie: (frustrated) What sort of a man trades a man's life for a ship?

Vaggie: (shrugs) Pirate.

(Charlie struggles with her bandaging.)

Vaggie: Here... let me.

(Charlie lets her do it for her. Vaggie gently wraps her hand.)

Charlie: (smiles) Thank you.

Vaggie: (curious) You said you gave Pentious my name as yours. Why?

(Charlie looks her in the eye wanting to tell her why but can't.)

Charlie: I don't know.

(She then winces as Vaggie tends to her wound.)

Vaggie: I'm sorry. Blacksmith's hands. I know, they're rough...

Charlie: (softly) No... I mean, yes, they are. But... don't stop.

(Vaggie finishes with the bandage but keeps holding her hand tenderly. They stare deeply into each other eyes and lean closer to each other. Vaggie caresses Charlie's face affectionately.)

Vaggie: (softly) Charlie...

(Charlie takes her hand and moves down to her neck so it touches the medallion. She takes it off and puts it in Vaggie's hands. Vaggie looks at it in wonder as she remembers it.)

Charlie: It's yours.

Vaggie: I thought I'd lost it the day they rescued me. It was a gift from my father. He sent it to me... Why did you take it?

Charlie: (sorrowful) Because I was afraid you were a pirate. That would have been awful.

(Vaggie remembers what Alastor had told her about her father. After hearing about the cursed treasure from Charlie, she realizes that he was telling her the truth.)

Vaggie: It wasn't your blood they needed. It was my father's blood. My blood. (gloomily) The blood of a pirate.

(She bows her head in shame and holds the medallion in her fist. Charlie puts her hand on her arm.)

Charlie: Vaggie, I'm so sorry, please forgive me.

(Vaggie slams the coin on the table. She sits in silence without looking at Charlie. Charlie gets up and walks away feeling sad.)

(The Black Pearl sails away from the Isla de Muerta. Pentious and Alastor are alone in the cabin. Pentious sits at a table while Alastor wanders around.)

Pentious: (amused) So you expect to leave me standing on some beach with nothing but a name and your word it's the one I need, and watch you sail away on my ship?

Alastor: (smugly) No. I expect to leave you standing on some beach with absolutely no name at all, watching me sail away on my ship and then I'll shout the name back to you. Savvy?

Pentious: But that still leaves us with the problem of me standing on some beach with naught but a name and your word it's the one I need.

(Alastor takes an apple from the bowl on the table.)

Alastor: Of the two of us, I am the only one who hasn't committed mutiny. Therefore my word is the one we'll be trusting.

(He sits down across from his old first mate and puts his feet on the table.)

Alastor: Although, I suppose I should be thanking you because in fact, if you hadn't betrayed me and left me to die, I would have an equal share in that curse same as you. Funny ol' world, innit?

(He takes a bite of the apple and mockingly offers it to Pentious who just glares at him. Before they speak some more, Vortex enters.)

Vortex: Captain, we're coming up on the Interceptor.

(They exit the cabin. Pentious goes to the top deck as Alastor looks out from the side of the ship and sees the Interceptor up ahead in the distance. He gets immediately gets nervous and runs to the top deck. Pentious looks at the ship through a telescope ready to attack it and reclaim the missing gold coin. Alastor's mouth appears up close in the telescope and blocks the view.)

Alastor: (desperate) I'm having a thought here, Pentious.

(Pentious lowers his telescope and looks at Alastor annoyed.)

Alastor: What say we run up a flag of truce? I scurry over to the Interceptor and I negotiate the return of your medallion, eh? What say you to that?

(He smiles sheepishly. Pentious just shakes his head disappointingly.)

Pentious: No, you see, Alastor. That's exactly the attitude that lost you the Pearl. People are easier to search when they're dead. (sternly) Lock him in the brig.

(He takes the apple from Alastor as Vortex grabs him and drags him down below deck. Pentious looks at the apple for a second and then angrily throws it off the ship. The Black Pearl proceeds to pursue the Interceptor.)

And now the two rival pirate captains have finally met again. I'm interested to know the relationship between Alastor and Pentious on the show since it's implied that they have some sort of history.
