Panic and Predicaments

Oh no, Schwoz thought. I have to tell him now. Should I tell him that Charlotte is in...no, I shouldn't. As much as Schwoz loved invading people's privacy, he knew that this secret was too big to tell.

"The thing is...Charlotte ate a love muffin," Schwoz told Henry cautiously.

Henry blinked and gave Schwoz a blank stare. "I'm sorry, a love muffin?" He looked at Schwoz in disbelief.

Jasper looked at Henry and then Schwoz with his mouth hanging open. "Schwoz, how the heck did you get another love muffin? And why would you let Charlotte eat it?"

"I went to go get chocolate chips and then when I came back in, she was eating one. It was too late!" Schwoz exclaimed, throwing his hands up defensively. "I was making them get back at Ray for insulting my sister!"

"But you insult your sister all the time-"

"Well, that doesn't mean Ray can!" Schwoz interrupted.

Henry looked like he was still trying to comprehend the situation. "Okay...so you gave Char a love muffin. Why is she passed out? That didn't happen to me."

"It's not the same kind of love muffin." If only you knew, Henry. "It's my own recipe, so the side effects will be different."

"Well, when is she going to wake up? Also, she didn't kiss anyone, so how is it working?"

"Ummm, she doesn't have to kiss anyone for it to work. She...um…will fall in love with the first person she looks at after the chemicals in the muffin kick in."

"Was that me?!" Henry asked, looking panicked.

"I guess we'll find out," said Jasper, glancing at Charlotte nervously.

30 minutes later…

Henry, Jasper, and Schwoz were all gathered around Schwoz's lab. Trying to come up with an antidote for the love muffin.

"Well, you've gotta know something! You made the stupid muffin!" Henry yelled at Schwoz.

"I'm trying to figure it out! I said that already!"

"Well, hurry up!" Jasper chimed in.

They all started yelling at each other simultaneously and didn't notice Charlotte waking up on the couch.

Henry was about to yell at Schwoz again when he felt someone's arms wrap around his waist. Then, their head rested on his back. Schwoz and Jasper looked at Henry nervously.

He finally dared to turn around.

"Henry! Hiiii!" Charlotte exclaimed, looking up at Henry through her eyelashes. Anyone could tell just by looking at her that she was extremely lovesick. She grinned widely at Henry.

"Hi, Char. H-how are you feeling?" He tried to turn around and unwrap her arms from his waist, but she immediately rewrapped her arms around him after he turned around. Her whole body was practically pressed against his and she was looking at him in an inexplicable way.

Henry couldn't breathe. He had been in love with Charlotte for as long as he could remember, but he was always too scared to tell her. Their friendship meant too much to him and he would never risk it. His heart began to race as Charlotte pressed herself even more against him and laid her head against his chest.

"Amazing," she mumbled into his chest.

Shoot, Henry thought. How am I supposed to deal with Charlotte like this? I could barely keep myself kissing Charlotte when she was normal.

"Henry, you should take her back to your house," Jasper suggested.

"What?! Why on earth would I do that?" Henry asked. His brain was going into panic mode. Being alone with this Charlotte? No way.

"Jasper's right. We can't risk Ray finding out about this. Last time he got angry, he almost hit me with a flamethrower." Schwoz remembered, shuddering at the memory.

Henry sighed in frustration. Before he could argue with Schwoz and Jasper, they ran to the supply cabinet to find ingredients for Charlotte's antidote.

Great. He was stuck with a love-sick Charlotte for the whole day. Just him. Him and Charlotte. Nice one, Henry. Look what you've gotten yourself into now.

"I should've just stayed in bed," Henry groaned.
