A/N: Yes, I know you've all been waiting. And here it is. Everything is basically in my head, or written in a notebook. I'm just too lazy to type it out.
Identity
Surprised was a mild word to describe how Hikaru felt at the Meijin's greeting. He was not only surprised, but excited to have been remembered. Truly, Hikaru felt, the Meijin was a man to be respected. He could still remember the day that he'd went to ask the Meijin for the favor of playing a game against Sai. Smiling, Hikaru sank into his memories, only to be brought back to reality shortly.
"Fujiwara-san, there is much that I would like to discuss with you about the matter of that game," Touya-meijin said, cutting Hikaru's thoughts off. "But as there is a game about to start, it would have to be saved for another time."
"I'm free this weekend if you're fine with that," Hikaru grinned at the man. He was ecstatic to be able to have an open discussion with someone who shared part of his secret on Sai. It had always weighed on his mind that he would not be able to openly discuss things about Sai without being found out, or worse, to be declared mentally ill.
"That is agreeable," Touya-meijin nodded his consent, "Does two in the afternoon on Saturday sound agreeable?"
"Yes, that's fine with me," Hikaru agreed, mentally making a note to visit the Touya household on the weekend.
"Father?" a voice came from beside Touya Koyo. Both Meijin and amateur turned to the source of the voice. Before them stood a young man around Hikaru's age, with dark hair in a bob, and dressed in a neatly pressed suit. It was Touya Akira.
"Akira," Touya-meijin greeted his son with a nod of his head.
"Father," Akira greeted back with a slight bow in deference to his father and elder. Straightening up, his eyes landed on Hikaru standing beside his father in a comfortable manner. Looking at the young man he hit with a sense of familiarity, but as he was not able to recognize him, he was forced to ask. "And who might this be, Father?"
"This is Fujiwara-san, one of my passing acquaintances from the past," Touya-meijin introduced to his son.
Akira nodded at the introduction. Turning to face Hikaru, he bowed in greeting. "It is a pleasure to meet you Fujiwara-san. I am Touya Akira."
"The pleasure is all mine Touya-san." Hikaru bowed back in greeting. Glancing over towards Touya-meijin, he made a decision in taking a risk with disclosing his real identity in front of the elder Touya. And so, he took a deep breath and continued, "I am Shindo Hikaru, 'Fujiwara' is the handle name I use on NetGo."
"Shindo Hikaru?" Akira repeated slowly, as if testing the name on his tongue. Once again Akira was hit with a sense of familiarity, only this time, it was much stronger. He stared at Hikaru once again and this time he could see that the face before him was one he'd seen, only it looked older, as if he had met this Shindo Hikaru before in the past. And by the way he was desperately trying to remember, he came to the conclusion that the young man had made quite the impression on him the last time they had met. He just didn't know when, where and most importantly, why.
"Um… Touya-san?" Hikaru's voice cut through Akira's frantic thoughts.
Akira cleared his head of the thoughts and looked to Hikaru. "Yes?"
"Are you alright? You seemed to have something on your mind," Hikaru asked. He was concerned for the other young man. It was not every day that he caused someone to go so deep into thought just at the mention of his name.
"No, no, I am fine. I was just surprised at how familiar you seemed," Akira answered honestly, hoping that he may received some answers to his questions.
"Well, you may have seen me around the institute a few times, or maybe just out on the street," Hikaru answered back. He was not sure where this was going, it was not like he had ever met Touya Akira before, right?
"Maybe so," Akira nodded tentatively in agreement. He was not so sure that was the case, but he would not push it. He would ponder over this puzzle some time later, for now there was a game to watch.
"If that is all?" Hikaru said, nodding to the two men, "I have to rejoin my friend before this match starts."
"By all means," Touya-meijin said, a hand resting on Akira's shoulder holding him in place and letting Hikaru escape back to Isumi. Hikaru nodded gratefully at Touya-meijin, he was truly a man to be respected.
Rushing back to his seat across from Isumi, he was just in time for the game to start. But his mind was not in watching Waya's match, nor was it on how Touya Akira found him to be familiar; it was on his meeting with Touya-meijin the upcoming weekend and their discussion. He was too engrossed with the possible topics he would be discussing with the Meijin that he had barely paid any attention to Waya's game.
It was only when Isumi was calling his name that he broke out of his thoughts. Looking at Isumi in a questioningly way, he asked, "What is it?"
"The match is over Shindo-san," Isumi replied, repeating his words again.
"Oh," Hikaru said, surprised, he had not been aware of the time. Grinning sheepishly at Isumi he elaborated, "Sorry, I was just too lost in thought."
Isumi just gave him a knowing smile, "I noticed. You may want to take a look at the game board before seeing Waya. Or maybe slip away before he comes to find you?"
Hikaru started, letting the implication of Isumi's words sink in, before he gave him a wink replying cheekily, "Hey, I can totally trick Waya into thinking I'd been closely watching his game the whole time."
"If you say so," Isumi chuckled, "but you may need some help there."
"Okay, maybe," Hikaru conceded. In his mind he made another mental note to return and watch another of Waya's games, only next time, he would be paying attention.
A/N: So now I have a question to ask. Would you rather see (1) a tiny preview posted, and then reposted when I have the whole chapter written? OR (2) just wait for the next chapter to be completed and posted?
