A/N: I lied. It took me a long time to find a muse to write about anything. And it's short.
I skipped over summer vacation. That can be for later. So instead, here's the Ogata thing I promised on my bio page. Might expand on this train of thought later.
Interlude 2: Obsession
Ogata Seiji never considered that there were any interesting players to be had online after the disappearance of Sai from NetGo. Sai was the ultimate goal that many players yearned to surpass, and the mystery of his identity helped in creating that aura of intrigue that drew players like moths to a flame. Ogata Seiji was one of those many moths.
For many months after that message announcing Sai's passing he stopped logging onto any internet Go sites, convinced that there was not anything to keep his attention. He was right for the most part. After returning to the online world of Go and scrolling through numerous games he was disappointed. There was nothing to compare to the brilliance that was Sai. He had been spoiled, he'd realized; with Sai's presence the online world had looked so much more brighter, if only because there was that one entity that he could chase after and challenge without the repercussions in the real world. Sai was someone to level up his game with, to learn from.
About an year after Sai left, he caught notice of another interesting player inhabiting NetGo, the same site that Sai was purported to first used. He'd been scrolling through yet another list of games when he caught sight of something familiar. Stopping to focus on this one game to read through the previous moves placed, he realized that the person playing black seemed to play a similar hand to Sai's. The match soon ended before reaching mid-game, the black player resigning with a comment, 'Sorry, I gotta go.'
Ogata spent the next few hours looking up and reading through all the previous games this player played. He was astounded by what he'd found. This person, he realized, could possibly be Sai's disciple! And for what he could read from the games, quite a tough opponent, someone he could possibly test himself against, if only to get that glimpse of Sai once again. Ogata smirked to himself, he was definitely challenging this player to a proper uninterrupted match one day.
Yes, he was most definitely going to keep an eye on this player called 'Fujiwara'.
