Chapter Two
PPOV
Once Paul reached the sign that said Welcome to La Push Indian Reservation, he only had fifteen minutes to get to the beach before the rehearsal began. He was pushing it and this made him antsy. Pulling up to the parking lot, he saw all the cars and his friends standing close by the lot. Finding a space, he pulled in and got out of his truck. Walking over to the group, he noticed Sam talking to Quil, Embry, Jacob and Jared.
Jared and Sam had become his best friends over the course of finishing high school and college. Sam becoming his top foreman and Jared joining in as the lead in development and planning. Paul did not know where he would be without these two. Sam and Jared chose to live in La Push, traveling when necessary. Paul had created a smaller office in Forks to allow Jared and Sam to stay closer to home. Something that was now an option for himself, if he chose it.
Quil, Embry and Jacob were his friends that ran a thriving garage and body shop in Forks, close to the reservation. Jacob and Quil were two of the best mechanics in the area with Embry specializing in body work. Embry had even won awards for some of his stellar paint jobs and restoration work with the help of Jake and Quil for the engines. These awards helped bring in lots of business from all over the state.
"Bout time you got here boss man!" Sam smiled widely and embraced Paul in a man hug.
"Sorry about that! I was held up at the office. The shipment of materials for the community center is delayed, but after a heated conversation with the supplier, they will have all the supplies delivered by Sunday evening with no extra charge for the weekend delivery." Paul smirked. He knew that it was more than a heated conversation. It was more of the promising treat that he would pull his business and start outsourcing lumber and other building supplies from their competitor.
"Just glad you made it. It's almost time to start. Emily is waiting with the girls under the tent for everyone to get here." Paul glanced to the tent to see if he could get a glimpse of Bella, but did not see her.
After greeting the rest of the guys, they all walked down to the area on the beach set up for the wedding. He could see Billy Black in his wheelchair set up under an wooden arch waiting for the rest of the party to join. Looking to the left a little ways down the beach, Paul noticed Charlie Swan on his cell phone. Charlie glanced up to notice Paul walking down toward where Billy was and waved at Paul with a bright smile. Paul felt something deep in him at seeing that smile.
He knew Charlie was proud of him and suddenly Paul was ashamed that it had been so long since came back to see Charlie. Paul would call, but it was hard to talk to the father of the woman he was head over heels for and couldn't have. Knowing that talking to Charlie would mean hearing about Bella made Paul avoid the topic and usually talked about work or sports. If the subject of Bella came up, Paul usually found a way to skirt it or get off the phone before they delved to deep.
"Paul, so good to see you my boy!" Billy greeted Paul. Paul bent a little to give Billy a firm hand shake and pat on the back.
"How are you Billy? You are looking good sir!" Paul smiled at him.
"Still dancing," Billy laughed at his own joke and Paul joined in.
A firm hand on his shoulder had Paul turning his head. That bright smile of Charlie Swan's was closer now. Paul turned and embraced Charlie in a firm hug.
"It's about time you came home, son!" Charlie said. Son. It never ceased to get Paul every time he heard Charlie call him that. He knew Charlie looked at him as a son, as much as Paul looked at him as a father figure.
"It's good to be back Charlie!" Paul gave him a broad smile. "I will be here for a while as I over see the construction of the new community center. So I will be here at least a couple months, with the exception of trips back to Seattle to go to the office or for the occasional meeting."
"That's good to hear! Maybe you can come over for dinner some and hit the fishing hole with the old fart duo?" Charlie chuckled.
"Oh I guarantee I will be over for a good steak any night and it would definitely be nice to get out and relax on the water with you two! I haven't taken much time off and could really use R&R, even if it means hearing Billy snore in the boat."
"Hey! I don't snore!" They all laughed together.
"Charlie! Have you heard from Bella?" Emily asked before she noticed him standing with Charlie, "Oh, hey Paul! So good to see you!" She gave him a hug.
"Sorry, I just got off the phone with her. She is leaving the school now. There was some issue with a parent. She is picking up Colin and they will be on their way. She should be here any minute. " Colin? Who the hell was Colin? Was this her new boyfriend that he hadn't heard of?
"Good! I wanted to make sure we didn't start without them." Emily smiled and walked back to the tent.
"Paul, tell me all about this community center that Billy has told me about. Sounds pretty amazing!"
Even though his mood had deflated, due to the new man in Bella's life, Paul gave all the details for the new build. As the conversation flowed easily, Paul didn't hear the newest car pull into the parking lot. A few minutes later he heard voices raised as the others closer to the parking lot began to greet a new arrival. Paul glanced up to Charlie and noticed he was looking to the parking lot with a huge smile on his face. Looking over his shoulder, he could see the woman of his dreams getting out of a SUV waving at the others.
"Excuse me son, I need to go see if Bella needs some help. I will be right back, so I can hear more of this great job you have planned." Charlie pat Paul on the shoulder as he started to walk toward Bella's car.
Wondering what kinda help Bella would need, especially if she had another man with her Paul continued to watch. Bella opened the back passenger door and bent in. Paul couldn't get a good look to see what she was doing, but he had yet to see this Colin. Even in his mind, Paul said his name with disgust. How would he greet the guy if he was already wanting to rip his throat out.
As he continued to watch, Paul was surprised when Bella and Charlie walked around the back of the SUV with Charlie holding a toddler and Bella beside him holding a diaper bag. Who's kid is this? No one has had a baby, or at least no one has told me that they had a kid! Maybe she is babysitting for someone?
Paul could tell that the child had to be from native decent, as he had an olive complexion. The young tot was laughing and patting Charlie's face as Charlie blew raspberries on the little one's neck. Paul had never seen Charlie so care free, even when they went fishing together the few times before Paul left for college.
He watched as they walked toward the tent where all the ladies were waiting. Charlie passed the little boy to Bella and started back toward where he and the rest of the men were standing on the beach. Paul tried not to make it obvious that he had been watching, so he turned to walk where the group of groomsmen were standing together and talking.
Shortly after, Billy called everyone's attention and stated they would be starting soon. The grooms men would stand at the front, while each bridesmaid would walk down the aisle. Paul stood next to Sam as he was the best man. He watched as each bridesmaid walked down the aisle starting with Kim who was currently dating Jared, Rachel who was dating Embry, Angela who was dating Quil, Leah who was dating Jacob. Bella followed down the aisle holding the hand of the little boy who was now holding a pillow, as a little girl he recognized as Emily's niece Claire walked behind Bella holding a basket.
Paul was struck dumb as he watched his beautiful Bella walking down the aisle looking down at the little boy with such love. He wanted her to look at him that way. Suddenly a vision invaded his mind of her rounded with his child as he ran after the little boy down the beach. He could hear their laughter deep in his heart.
He blinked and glanced back toward where she was walking and was shocked to see Bella looking toward him. A pink tint stained her cheeks as she smiled a small smile at him and looked back down at the little boy. Emily followed shortly after and they stood still as they did a dry run of the wedding.
Once everyone was given their final directions, they were dismissed to finally get ready to go out for the evening. Paul glanced up at Bella and noticed she was alone, so he wanted to get his chance to say hello.
"Hey Bella, long time no see!" Paul said as he got closer.
"Hey Paul! I am so glad you got to come!" She reached up to give him a hug. "How have you been? I only hear about you from Sam or Jared." He could hear the slight hurt in her statement.
"Yeah, I've been doing good. Sorry about that." He rubbed the back of his neck with his hand and looked down in shame. "Between school and starting up my company, it has been crazy busy. How have you been?" He didn't want to admit out loud that he couldn't hear about her from others.
"I am good! I work at Forks Elementary teaching third grade and running the tutoring program for La Push, so I am staying busy with both of those." She seemed like she was going to say something else, but got interrupted as Charlie walked up with the little boy in his hands.
"Hey Bells, we are going to head out. Just wanted to make sure I have everything before I leave." Suddenly the little boy turned to see Bella standing behind him and jumped into her arms squealing.
"MOMMY!"
Paul was speechless as he watched the little boy kiss all over Bella's cheek. Who the fuck on this reservation knocked her up? I will hunt them down and kill them!
"You be good for Grandpa! Mommy will come get you in the morning, but I will call you to tell you goodnight." Paul thought his eyes would pop out of his head.
"Otay mommy! I's be good for Pop!" The little one gave one last kiss before turning back to Charlie's arms.
As Charlie and the little boy was about to walk away, Paul could not stop the next words that flowed from his lips.
"You have a fucking kid?"
