Vale City – A Few Days Later

Finally, I'm here.

Admittedly, this city is quite beautiful, it has a fantastical vibe to it, and it's also rather nice seeing actual people instead of grim and grass.

Either way, the journey was necessary, and getting 6 levels along the journey wasn't bad either. After all, the perks are quite useful.

[Remnants of Destruction

After destroying something, you have the option to leave a purple miasma that damages all in it. (excluding you) Larger things that get destroyed leave a thicker, more deadly miasma.

I've still not made any progress on finding out what type of Faunus I am, but I'm not really in a hurry either. Right now all I need to do is gain strength and build a following if it suits my needs.

There's still a little over 3 weeks till the beginning of the show, I have a few vague ideas of things I want to do, but nothing in particular. Getting a nice weapon and levelling up are currently my top priorities. There are some other things I could do, such as trying to take out the White Fang or Roman, but I'm currently not in a rush to make enemies.

I've decided that one of the first things on my list is to get a weapon, but before that, I think it's about damn time I eat something.

Due to Gamer's Body, I can go without food, sleep and water for extended periods of time, but that doesn't mean I have infinite stamina. Along my journey, I've fought many Grimm and have covered a lot of ground to get to Vale City, and because of that, I'm quite hungry.

I've got a fair amount of Lien from Grimm drops, so I may as well treat myself.

I was walking around town and saw a few shops selling various things.

I walked by a few restaurants but none of them caught my fancy.

After walking around for about 15 minutes, I saw a burger shop. I always liked burgers and I wanted something that reminded me of home.

I entered the shop and smelt the fresh aroma of burgers.

I went up to the counter and asked for 2 chicken burgers, some fries and some soda. I paid a 1,500 Lien.

As expected, the food was pretty good. It was nice to actually eat something for the first time in this life.

I left the restaurant and walked around looking for a weapons store.

I didn't need an awesome weapon like Ruby's as for the most part I'd be using Hakai. But, I was willing to splurge on a weapon, I had a budget of 100,000 Lien. Killing all those Grimm on my journey gave me a decent amount of money.

I found a good quality weapon shop and went inside. I saw many weapons on the wall and in display cases.

"Hi, I'm looking for a lightweight weapon between the price of 50,000 – 100,000 Lien. "

"That's great sir, I'll do my best to help you find something you like. "

The lady seemed quite suspicious of me, admittedly my clothing didn't look like the type of clothes someone would wear if they had 100 thousand Lien to spend on a weapon, and walking for days didn't help it's state.

I followed her around the store and looked at a few weapons. After a while I settled on a 70,000 Lien rapier, it was lightweight and fast, it was definitely my style.

It might have also been because my character in a game used a rapier...

"Thank you sir, we hope you make good use of your purchase. " The employee told me in a happy voice as I exited the shop.

Lets see now...

I have a few ideas to use this. I know that Grimm generally aren't that affected by stabbing as they don't bleed, but the idea is to channel my power through the rapier and destroy Grimm from the inside.

I haven't tested it yet, but I imagine it will be very effective. I was originally scared that whilst channelling my power through the rapier, it would get destroyed, but it seems that my control is good enough to not destroy it.

Now that that's done... what should I do now?

I have a little under a month to gain exp and hone my skills with the sword, but I need something else to do.

Get a job?

I mean... it's not really a bad idea, and I could make some Lien, which is always appreciated.

But the question is what kind of job I would like.

I know I don't want a bland job, that's for sure.

Maybe a job that could help me level up, or something that could be useful later?

Oh! I should be a blacksmith!

That sounds like something I could do, and I'll probably get a subclass or something.

Naturally, in my old life, there's no way I would do something like that. Hard work, high physical labour, a pretty low pay, all in all that's not for me.

But in this life, things are different, and being a blacksmith would actually be useful.

But where do I find a smithery that's currently hiring?

...

It's been roughly two hours and it's noon now.

I've been walking for a while and found a few blacksmiths, but none of them were hiring or looking for apprentices.

This is my last try, if I don't get a job from this guy, then I'm quitting my endeavours on becoming a blacksmith for now.

"Hey, are you by any chance looking to have an apprentice?" I asked the guy with the welding mask.

He turned around, took his mask off, and looked me up and down.

"Ya don't look like much, kid." He said in a gruff voice.

"I've got my aura unlocked, I'm a hard worker and looks can be deceiving."

"...I see. Well kid, I've been thinking of retiring soon, but I wanted to pass my skills on to somebody. I'm willing to take you on as an apprentice, but if you can't handle the work, don't expect to last long."

Wow, that went better than I expected.

"I won't disappoint." I said in a slightly more chipper tone.

"Good, ya start work tomorrow at 9, by the way what's yer name?"

I didn't pick a last name... since I'm in RWBY I'll just go with a colour.

Obsidian sounds pretty nice, a tad bit edgy, but I don't care.

"My name is Cain Obsidian."

"Alright then Cain, I'd recommend you get a good rest, because I'm gonna put you to work tomorrow!"

I said bye to him and started walking away. So I've got a job now I guess.

Seems like my boss is pretty nice, and more importantly, he's experienced in his craft.

I should probably get a home, it's not like I really need to sleep, but having somewhere that's mine would be useful.

I doubt I can just go up to someone and start renting a house the very same day, and if I could, it's probably not gonna be a great place.

Guess I'll go for a hotel.

It's been a pretty good day today, I worked at my job and even got a subclass.

[Blacksmith

Apparently subclasses don't count towards my overall level or give me any stats, which is a shame, but I can't really complain all that much.

The hotel I'm staying at is pretty dodgy, there were pretty much no questions asked, I gave them a wad of Lien and I got a room, but I don't really have any complaints.

I'm feeling pretty good, I've had a shower, washed my clothes and I had a rest yesterday.

I don't really need to sleep, and I'm pretty bored, so I think I'll go Grimm hunting and get some exp.

I've left the borders of Vale City and I've been hunting Grimm for a few hours.

I've managed to level up twice.

Sadly, I haven't ran into any big Grimm, mainly just beowulfs and ursas but now.. I've found something interesting.

A White Fang camp.

Now, I asked myself if it's worth making an enemy of the White Fang, but the thing is, they wouldn't learn of my identity.

As long as there are no witnesses, there's no proof of it being me.

Okay then, I guess it's time to dispose of some White Fang members.

Then it's settled, I'm killing everyone in that camp.

I'm doing this loud.

I jumped form a tree and into the camp.

I charged a ball of destruction and snuck behind a grunt, I thrusted the ball into their chest and easily killed them.

Their scream alerted the rest of the camp, I saw more grunts running towards me with their weapons out.

I activated destroyer's aura and started running at them.

I placed my hand on the first grunt's chest.

"Hakai!"

After seeing their fellow grunt disintegrate into a purple mist, grunt 3 and 4 were very demoralized.

I couldn't care less if they surrendered or not, I charged up an annihilation ray and shot it at them.

They tried running away yet failed miserably.

I then saw someone larger running at me.

I'm assuming this is the boss of the grunts.

I pulled out my rapier and started running towards him, he had a greatsword in hand and also started running towards me.

We met with our blades and clashed, I parried his strike and stabbed him in the jugular.

He died instantly and fell down onto the grass.

Was that it?

There are many more tents..

I guess the other thugs are out on a mission?

I'm still itching for more blood.. so I may as well wait.

...

It's been an hour and about 10 more grunts and a leader came to the camp only to see it destroyed.

Hmmm.. they're all gathered up together.

Let's try a big one.

I used about 90% of my total mana and shouted the words.

"HAKAI!"

All of them keeled over and started screaming in immense pain. After a few seconds they had all disappeared.

I guess that's that?

I feel really god damn tired after using all that mana.

It's been a little under 3 weeks since then.

I've levelled up both my classes quite a bit.

I've levelled 8 times in my normal class, and 23 in my blacksmith subclass.

The perks that I've gained are pretty good as well.

I've attacked quite a few White Fang camps in the time being.

The White Fang know that someone is targeting them, but they have no idea who it is, only that whenever a camp is attacked, everyone disappears.

I don't know exactly what they're thinking, but I imagine they're really confused.

The White Fang might end up withdrawing from Vale if I continue my attacks.

That wasn't my original intention, but I don't care either way, it's less trouble for me.

For some reason, I haven't ran into Adam Taurus yet.

My attacks will probably stop since I'm going to Beacon.

It's a day till the exams, I'm actually excited.

I never thought the day would come where I'd be excited for an exam.

I've been levelling up my subclass, but I don't think my teacher can teach me anymore, the guy wanted to pass down his skills and he's done that. He says that he's taught me all that he could and that he's gonna close down shop soon.

He was a pretty chill dude, it was frustrating at first, but me being a Gamer helped majorly.

Using my new skills, I've been trying to make a 'masterpiece' of sorts.

Most RWBY characters have awesome weapons, my rapier feels really damn bland compared to other weapons that I've seen.

I wanted to make dual pistols, I always liked using the Dual Berettas in CS:GO, and I've made pretty good progress so far.

I know it's not all that original, but it's not like I have to prove myself to anyone.

The idea is that I have something to use in case my mana runs out, and also just for fun.

I separated my rapier into two, and attacked them to the guns, I can attach both of them together to create another rapier.

Meh, I like it.

One gun is mainly purple and the other is mainly black, the purple on them is the same shade as my iris, a deep purple.

Now... What do I name them?

Screw it.. edgy name it is.

I'll go for Chaos and Oblivion.

Ah, it seems the ship is finally arriving.

I made my way onto the ship and watched as Glynda Goodwitch gave her speech.

I received some looks, probably due to my high charisma stat and shades, and I proceeded to lean against the wall. I spotted Ruby and Yang but decided not to say anything for now.

After a while, Beacon came into view. It really is quite grand, I couldn't help but be excited for the upcoming exam.

The ship landed and everyone exited. I saw Jaune throw up into a trash can and I decided to not talk to him and instead stroll past him.

I heard Ruby give her mini-speech on weapons and I then saw Yang leave her.

I don't really want to involve myself with the main cast for now. There's no legitimate reason for me to get involved with them.

I saw Weiss rant at Ruby about dust and Ruby blow up the dust.

I then used observe on Ruby

Weiss was still ranting at Ruby so I tuned out whatever was being said and after that and when I saw her fall on the floor.

I already knew that Jaune would come up and talk to her, so I stopped stalking her and started walking towards the academy.

I entered the academy and leaned against a corner of the hall trying to avoid being noticed.

I listened to Ozpin's speech and thought to myself.

I have purpose, and believe me, it isn't to become a hunter.

Night

We all slept inside the same room in sleeping bags. I overheard Ruby and Yang's conversation from across the room and since there was nothing of note, I stopped lisening.

Eh, it was just Ruby giving her whole spiel about how she basically knew nobody at Beacon.

I saw the two heroines conversing to Blake.

I thought to myself how useful Faunus hearing actually was, I could hear them from across the room and focus on their voices whilst everyone else was talking. I feel like I definitely made the right decision choosing Faunus.

I woke up in the morning, put on my clothes, brushed my teeth and had breakfast.

As I walked around Beacon, I really managed to appreciate how great the academy was.

Like seriously, I can't even begin to imagine how much this place costed to build.

After a while we headed to the room with rocket locker things? I never really understood those, but I still thought they were cool.

I heard the announcement for the first years to go to the Beacon Cliff and started heading over there.

I always wondered why students had to get LAUNCHED OFF A FUCKING CLIFF in their exam.

Obviously I'd survive, but people tend to forget Jaune literally would have died if it weren't for Phyrra saving him.

After Ozpin told us how the first person we meet after landing would be our partner, he told us to get ready and into positions.

We got onto our launch pads and readies ourselves, with the exception of Jaune who acted like a fool.

I got launched high up into the sky and fell down to the forest below. I started sprinting and hoped my unluckiness would stop me from getting a teammate, does unluckiness even work like that? I don't know. But it'll be more impressive if I get through the forest solo.

The forest lived up to it's name, the greenery had an odd emerald tint to it.

I ran through looking for the gold and black chess pieces, I already knew that those would be the artefacts. I imagine that there's gonna be an extra piece.

Whilst I was running, I destroyed every single Grimm I spotted. I'll probably level up two or three times after this test, like seriously, there are a lot of big Grimm.

Ozma POV

Fascinating, that boy has one of the most powerful semblances I've ever seen… to completely destroy a Grimm, it's incredible… and also worrying. If he were to fall into Salem's hands… Truly is a stroke of luck for me that he came to Beacon.

This year truly is a great one, almost everyone in the group is excellent.

Glynda babbled some nonsense to me about the Arc boy, it was obvious he forged his transcripts, but his family was known to create powerful warriors, but looking at him now.. he's absolutely pathetic. He had to get his Aura unlocked by his teammate Phyrra, a rather promising huntress. Hopefully he can become stronger, or else I don't know what will happen to him.

"Mr Obsidian's semblance is truly incredible, I've never seen anything like it"

Finally, Glynda actually said something worth talking about,

"Indeed, I am sure he will grow to become an extremely powerful hunter with a semblance like that."

Now, how do I get him on my side?

Cain POV

I found the pieces surrounded by the future team RWBY and JNPR.

"Hi."

The others greeted each other and we exchanged names and I was asked why I didn't have a partner.

"We're an odd number and there are 2 more people other than all of us, meaning 9, I had to go solo."

It seemed like they wanted to ask more questions, but they were cut short as Jaune fell out of the sky with Weiss landing on top of him.

We saw Phyrra get flung by the scorpion Grimm. This was one of the moments I had been waiting for.

I sprinted forwards and began charging up an annihilation ray, I put a lot of mana into this one.

I released the blast and the grimm instantly evaporated into a purple mist and everyone around me was shocked and confused.

"What was that?!" I think it was Ruby who said that.

"My semblance, the power to completely destroy things."

"That's probably one of the strongest semblances I've ever seen, how come I've never heard of you." Phyrra questioned.

"I've not bothered spreading my name." I said nonchalantly.

Phyrra still seemed a little suspicious but decided not to ask anything more.

We picked our pieces, I noticed there was an extra piece, it was a deep purple queen piece.
Yeah, that's mine. I grabbed it and put it into my pocket.

The next thing to do was find the temple, we started running to try find it.

Once most of us made it, we looked around the ruins of the temple.

As expected, a giant nevermore proceeded to swoop down and try attack us by shooting it's razor sharp feathers.

All of us either dodged or blocked the feathers. I started sprinting towards it and thought to myself.

This is my second chance to prove myself to be better than the rest of them.

"Annihilation Ray."

I kept the ray on the hawk Grimm for about 7 seconds, by that point it had been utterly eradicated.

Nice. That bonus objective is done for sure. Having increased reputation should let me get away with some things and have people question me less.

Jaune POV

What the hell?

First Phyrra and now this guy? I think his name was Cain.

I know I don't have any real combat training, but literally EVERYONE is better than me.

I've done nothing but be a hindrance to my partner Phyrra as well.

Looking at these monsters I just feel like I should've stayed back at the farm, at least it was safe there.

Gods, I feel so pathetic.

Cain POV
