You guys got Nidhogg so quickly lol. I was wayyy too obvious about it. Since you guys already know, I'm gonna make Cain find out sooner.
To anyone that doesn't know who Nidhogg is, or why I chose him as Cain's Faunus side, heres why.
Nidhogg is a massive, powerful serpent from Norse mythology. He wanted to devour the world tree and destroy the universe. Cain is a destroyer, I thought it would fit well.
I might not do a chapter tomorrow, Ive pumped out 9k words in the past 2 days.

Blake POV
I've never liked Cain.
The vibe I get from him is awful.
When I'm close to him my instincts scream at me to run, which is why I avoid him as much as possible.
I don't understand, he hasn't done anything wrong to me or the team, but I just feel like he would kill us all without blinking an eye.
It doesn't help help that he probably could, him and that insane semblance of his.
I just don't understand why my Faunus instincts scream at me when I'm near him like he's some monster. I know my instincts are meant to tell me when I'm in the presence of a stronger, dangerous Faunus, but Cain isn't a faunus... at least I don't think so.
I should probably keep an eye on him.
"Hey Ruby, what do you think of Cain?" I asked with a neutral tone.
"I think he's okay. He's a little bit odd but he's nice enough."
"Alright then." I tried to end the conversation.
"Any reason you asked me that?"
"Well... yeah, I guess. I get this horrible feeling whenever I'm around him."
"I know he's a bit scary and quiet I guess, but he's far from being horrible."
"You're right.. never mind." Ruby looked like she wanted to say more but stopped herself.
That doesn't mean I'm not going to keep my guard up around him.
Cain POV
I've just had my dinner and I wanted to get some training in.
I went to the outskirts of the Emerald Forest.
How much time have I actually spent in forests? Like seriously, I 'spawned' in a forest I went hunting in forests and now I train in the emerald forest.
Whatever, onto the more important task, I've been theorising about this but this will be the first time I try it out.
I formed a ball of destruction in my right hand and tried to make it into the shape of a rapier.
[Skill created!
Destroyer's Arsenal!
You are able to manifest your destruction into weapons.
These weapons are exceptionally powerful and once inside an enemy, they will destroy the enemy's body from the inside out.
400 Mana per second]
Guess my normal rapier isn't needed anymore..
Oh well, this is a lot more menacing.
Like holy shit does this look cool.
It looks like some sort of cursed weapon, it's a mix of purple and black that is constantly writhing and changing.
Using this should also help train my control right?
[Correct, if you constantly keep the rapier in shape, your control will improve.]
Nice.
Wait.. If I can do that...
Lets try something else.
[Skill created!
Destroyer's Armour!
You are able to manifest your destruction into armour.
The armour destroys anything that comes into contact with it, except you. When you are struck by a weapon, the weapon itself is destroyed.
800 Mana per second for full body, 200 Mana per second for any major piece of armour (Greaves, Breastplate, Gauntlets, Helm)]
There's a high mana usage for both of these skills, but they sound pretty god damn overpowered.
I decided that a rapier didn't suit a full set of armour, so I turned the rapier into a sword.
I was thinking about the possibilities when I felt someone's gaze.
I turned around and spotted someone.
Blake?
"What do you want." I asked not bothering to mask my hostility.
"Why are you out here, in the Emerald Forest?"
"I think it's pretty clear what I'm doing here, training. Now, I'd like to ask you why you're following me."
I don't believe that I've done anything suspicious near Blake or done anything to earn her ire. As a matter of fact, I don't believe that I've done anything suspicious around anyone.
"I don't have to answer any of your questions."
"And neither did I, but I did, now why can't you return the favour?" I tried to say in a slightly kinder tone.
"..." Blake stayed silent.
I gave her a chance. If she wants to play this way then that's fine with me.
"Perhaps you don't understand. That wasn't an option. I can always reveal you were a part of the White Fang."
"Or... I could kill you, it would be very easy, and it would be rather hard to pin the crime on me."
If I was being honest I'd quite like to kill her, but as it stands I don't want Beacon to get in a panic, and I don't know if anyone knows that she came here. Either way, I'm not going to kill her. Not yet.
"Y-you wouldn't do that... and h-how did you know that I was a member of the White Fang?!" The shock on her face was priceless.
"I know a lot more than you kitty cat. Now I hope you can answer my original question."
Blake looked like a mess of emotions, she then tried to calm herself and then answered me.
"Fine. I was here because I'm suspicious of you, and it seems now I have every reason to be suspicious. I'll be keeping my eye on you."
"I cant recommend that, you may find if you continue you will have no eyes to keep."
She gave me a hostile look and disappeared into the shadows using her semblance.
Ugh.. troublesome. I'll probably have to halt my nightly excursions for a while.
I should probably go back to my dorm.
The next day, I woke up and began to think about what I'm going to do.
Right now I think my best bet is to wait until Cinder, Mercury and Emerald initiate the battle and fall of Beacon. They'll be my ticket to killing Ozpin and I'll kill Cinder after she becomes the fall maiden, or I might just kill Amber, whichever seems more convenient at the time.
The dance should be coming up soon. And soon after that, there will be the Vytal festival.
I personally couldn't give less of a shit about the dance, but it's not like I'll get asked out anyway. I haven't bothered making any relationships. Chances are I'm going to have to kill them, so there's not any real reason to be buddy buddy with them.
I had my breakfast as usual, although I received some not so subtle glances from Bake.
Then, we had our first lesson. Sparring.
Our teacher for the lesson, Glynda Goodwitch, asked who wanted to spar.
Phyrra shot her hand up.
Goodwitch asked who wanted to spar with Phyrra.
Sounds like fun, I may as well. I raised my hand.
"Very well then. Mr Obsidian, Miss Nikos, please enter the arena.
I walked down and into the arena.
"Are both of you ready?"
We both nodded.
"Mr Obsidian, you don't have your weapon out."
"Don't worry about that, I wanted to try something out."
She looked at me curiously and started speaking again.
"If that is the case, you may begin."
I made my armour and created a full sized great sword.
I didn't want to kill Phyrra, not yet at least, so I dialled down the strength of my destruction.
I heard a few murmurs from the crowd after they saw my transformation.
We sprinted towards each other and met with our weapons.
My sword slashed at her shield and knocked her back a few yards.
More resilient than I expected, since that's the case I'll use more strength.
I increased my mana usage and we started fighting again.
I was constantly striking at her with powerful blows, giving her no chance to go on the offence.
She was getting pushed back more and more, she tried counterattacking numerous times yet failed.
Finally, I struck her with a powerful blow and knocked her over then put my sword to her neck.
I let my armour disintegrate and looked at her face.
She had a look of shock on her face. She probably hadn't realised how far the gap between us truly was.
"Cain Obsidian is the victor." Our teacher said in her usual, strict voice.
I let my sword fade into mist and walked away in triumph.
It's the weekend now and I'm going into Beacon's library.
I wanted to look at various serpentine species to see if I could get any closer to finding what type of Faunus I am.
The library was grand, pretty much like everything else in the academy.
After finally finding the section on animals, and the section within that section on snakes, I got some books and began reading.
I skimmed through the books and saw the various species names.
It turned out that the world of remnant had a lot of snake species similar to earth.
An hour later and I had no luck, god damnit of course I had no luck.
Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places..
I really need something to calm me down.
Hey Sentinel, open those 2 Gacha Tokens.
[Opened x2 Uncommon Gacha Tokens
Item Received!
Old Fairy Tails of Remnant
Uncommon Item
An old book containing many of Remnant's Fairy tails, such as The Infinite Man, The Girl in the Tower and the Silver-Eyed Warriors.
Item Received
Anti Magic Mask
Uncommon Item
Lesser Magic Resist - Slightly dulls any magical attack cast by an enemy and hides the user's mana capacity and current mana
A black mask with some purple lines on it.]
So a book of fairy tails I already know and a slightly useful mask.
I imagine the mask would barely protect me, but being able to hide my mana was decently useful, it also looked pretty cool, which was a bonus.
Alright, I may as well get out the library. It's been a while since I've gone to town.
I want to get some new clothes.
Well not just normal clothes but a cloak, pants, and gloves.
I've already got a decent mask so there's no need for one of those.
The reason I need those clothes is for my nightly excursions, and one I'm planning on soon.
I walked inside a shop and asked the shopkeeper if he had any black cloaks and pants.
I bought 2 good quality ones that could resist a stabbing or two. It cost me 25,000 lien in total.
I then asked if he had any black gloves and I bought a decent pair for 5,000 lien.
Not bad. I'll need this for my plan at the dance.
Oh, Cinder, you're so fucked.
Dance
[Quest received!
Stop the Sabotage!
Make sure Cinder Fall doesn't sabotage the CCTS
Reward: 35,000 Exp]
There it is. I expected to get a quest for this.
I'm just going to wait around the rooftops for Cinder to come.
Shame I can't kill her, not yet at least. If she dies this early on, Salem is likely to halt her attack.
Cinder POV
Mercury and Emerald have informed me that everyone is at the dance with the exclusion of one.
Cain Obsidian.
He's well known throughout the school for his strength and his mysteriousness.
Mercury and Emerald haven't been able to talk to him at all and apparently he often disappears at night.
It doesn't matter anyway, it's extremely unlikely he knows my plans, and even more unlikely he'll act.
I have half the Fall Maiden's power, even if he has such a powerful semblance, he won't be able to beat me.
Both of us wouldn't be able to use our power at it's full potential, it will be a contest of skill, and I would the victor.
Anyway, I must proceed with the plan.
I climbed over the rooftops and started running.
And then I saw someone.
A black and purple mask with all black clothing.
The most worrying thing was that I couldn't feel even the slightest hint of aura from them.
He started sprinting towards me and I prepared to fight him.
I can't risk using the full force of my maiden powers,
Suddenly, I felt a huge feeling of terror on me and I saw the man coat his arm with a dark energy.
So this is Cain Obsidian?
I have to be careful, clearly the reports were wrong about his level of power.
Gods, I can't even use my full maiden powers or else I'll be exposed.
I tried to slash at him with my daggers.
He caught them with his bear hand.
I grinned and then slashed his neck with my other dagger.
A surefire kill, at least that was what I thought it would be, but he didn't even flinch, he took no damage, it was like his skin was iron.
In my moment of hesitation, he grabbed my neck with his hand coated in a purple energy, lifted me up and began to speak.
"Hello there, Cinder Fall. I'm afraid I cant let you accomplish your current mission." He said with a tinge of arrogance in his voice.
"Sadly, I cannot yet kill you as you are too useful, we have similar goals, after all.. So for now, you should just sleep."
I tried to move, but I couldn't, I felt his hand constrict around my neck and my consciousness began to slip.
I tried to use my Maiden Powers, and tried to attack him with it. I saw his hand light on fire, yet he seemed amused.
"Interesting... Anyways, this is goodbye for now. I'm sure we'll be meeting sooner or later."
My neck hurts so much.
I will get my revenge on you, Obsidian. Believe me.
Cain POV
She really was weak.
Absolutely pathetic, but then again, she couldn't go all out.
I should move, I've already spotted Ruby running towards me.
I'm just going to put Cinder in her dorm
Their plan has failed anyway.
[Quest Complete!
Stop the Sabotage!
Make sure Cinder Fall doesn't sabotage the CCTS
Reward: 30,000 Exp
Hidden Objective: No casualties, avoid fighting with Ruby
Reward: Cloak of the Night (Epic)]
[Level up x2]
God damn, an epic item?
Not bad at all, and that's on top of the fact I learnt that I'm fireproof, the burnt glove is a shame though.
I dropped Cinder through a window into her dorm and went back to my own dorm.
By this point, Ruby had long lost track of us.
A successful mission, I'd say.
Ruby POV
"So you saw two people fighting on the rooftops whilst we were dancing?" Yang questioned me.
"Look I know it's hard to believe, but I saw two masked people, a man and a woman. It saw them start fighting after the man stopped her." I said with an exasperated expression.
"I believe you, but what should we do? Tell professor Ozpin, your uncle, or someone else?" Weiss asked.
"I think we should take things into our own hands. I don't actually have any proof it happened." I said to my team.
That's a wrap.
I struggled a bit thinking of what Cain should do for this chapter.
It's kind of filler? I just thought the plot was progressing a bit too fast.
So, I've been wondering. Should I do lemons, either review or pm me opinions. Note that I've never written them before so they probably wont be much good.
If revamped the mana system by the way. It's much better now and it has been updated in past chapters.
Read the top of the page for more info.
If you liked, do review. Bye.
