Chapter 4
Rachel
After a few of days at the manor, Rachel was starting to feel at home, so on Monday when Bruce told her that her and Alfred were going to go back to her old house to collect her things now that she was stronger, Rachel's stomach was doing flips. She knew that no one would be there as her father was gone, but revisiting the place where she had grown up with him felt like she was a ghost.
Alfred seemed to pick up on her agitation and suggested that they shouldn't stay for too long, something that Rachel agreed with. They hurriedly collected her things; clothes, books and other possessions and swiftly left, which she was grateful for. In the car on the way back, Alfred started to talk to her about her school, and how she was settling into the manor. They chatted most of the way back home and by the time they reached the gates, Rachel felt a lot better.
She thanked him and they walked down the drive in a comfortable silence. As Rachel made her way up the stairs, she checked her watch. It was 4 in the afternoon, so Dick was back from school. She put the boxes of her things on the floor of her bedroom and strolled into his room, laying down on his bed, only to see him come out of the bathroom wearing nothing but a towel. His eyes widened and then he smirked when he saw her blushing. He grabbed some clothes off the foot of his bed and walked back into the bathroom to get changed.
A minute later, he came out again, this time fully dressed and Rachel gave him a sheepish smile, and he grinned at her before flopping next to her on the bed. "So," he began, "How'd it go?" She smiled again before telling him about the strange feeling she had and how Alfred had made her feel better. "Yeah, Alf has a gift for making us all feel better." He said with a lopsided smile, "How do you feel, physically?" he asked. She replied, saying that she felt a lot better after a couple of days rest. "Good," he said, "Cuz you're gonna go back to school tomorrow." She nodded before asking, "I'm guessing that people can't know about my uh… living arrangements?" "Yeah, and you'll have to pretend like we've never really met before, like how it was before all this happened." He replied.
He must have seen that she looked slightly sad, because he told her that if she wanted to, they could watch a movie after dinner, which cheered her up because she nodded and smiled, her beautiful violet eyes sparkling. They chatted for a while, just lying on Dick's bed until they realised that it was 6:30, dinner time.
After dinner, they decided to watch Ocean's 8. Rachel had seen it before but Dick hadn't and they both really enjoyed it. It was only 8 o'clock but she decided to go to bed, as she both had school in the morning. Dick base her goodnight, and got ready for patrol with Batman. Rachel thought to herself that night that she was going to be ok, and fell asleep with a smile on her face.
