Chapter 7: Meeting
"Someone wants to see you."
Danny raised an eyebrow under his hood. 'Who would want to talk with me?'
"Why?" he asked.
Skulker started to lower to the ground. "She said she was staying in Spokane and wasn't happy to know me and Night were scaring people there."
Jack and Danny lowered to the floor with him, Midnight and Shadow following while Star just snuggled deeper in his hair. "'She'? Who's 'she'?" Jack asked as they landed on the forest floor.
"I'm 'she'," a voice sounded behind them.
The two dead teens and Shadow Animals turned towards the voice. A young girl, maybe 12-13 years old, stood with her arms crossed. She had silver-white hair pulled in a ponytail and her green eyes were glaring at the boys. She had a black jumpsuit on with white gloves, knee-high boots, belt, and collar. Her crossed arms covered the symbol on her chest, but Jack could guess it was the Danny Phantom logo, considering she looked like she was his younger sister.
The girl raised an eyebrow. "You're the leader of the Ghost Zone?" she asked Danny. "You're half the size of Skulker! I wouldn't be surprised if the Box Ghost could beat you."
"Who are you?" Danny asked, ignoring her taunt.
"Dani, with an I," she replied dully. "Who are you?"
Danny crossed his arms and narrowed his eyes. "You're not very nice to the 'Leader of the Ghost Zone,' considering you too are a ghost."
"Sir," Skulker spoke up from behind them. "She's not a full ghost. A rare Halfa."
"A Whata?"
"A Halfa, doofis," Dani explained, uncrossing her arms. "Half human, half ghost. There's only three." She paused, closing her eyes. "Two might be dead…"
Jack froze at the statement. After sending Skulker off, the Phantom of Halloween raised an eyebrow. "Might be?"
The little girl took a deep breath, obviously trying to hold back tears. "One fled to space after being defeated by the other. The other… disappeared last year…"
All anger in Danny disappeared. He knew how it felt to be alone, to be the only one… He thought that for 6 months before he met Jack. This girl, Dani, felt it for a year, and still does now.
"I'm sorry," he said.
Dani took a quick breath. "Don't be." She looked back up to him. "That's not what I'm here for."
Danny straightened a bit, causing Star to stir in his hair. "Right. Why are you here?"
Dani glared at him again. "I want you to stop scaring people. At least in Spokane."
"I can't do that."
"Why not?!"
Danny pointed up at the moon. "The Moon made me to do just that. Scare for fun. If I stop, that would be like a ghost not doing his obsession."
The Halfa looked at him dumbly. "The moon? Really?"
Danny now glared at her. "Really. Ever heard of Man in Moon? He makes us." He gestured to him and Jack. "The spirit of Winter and the spirit of Halloween."
"Okay…" Dani looked towards the black coyote sitting at the cloaked teen's feet. "Then what are they?"
Danny looked down at Shadow. "Shadow Animals. That's Shadow," he patted the canine's head, "this is Midnight," he gestured to the fawn prancing around his head, "and the one in my hood is Star." Star yipped from the shadow of the hood.
Shadow bowed his head slightly to the girl while Midnight paraded to the girl. Dani laughed and scratched the deer under her chin. "They're cute."
Midnight looked towards Danny as Star poked his head out. She nodded her head towards the ghost girl. Star yapped at her and yawned, burrowing back in the hood. Danny chuckled. "Seems Star's a bit tired."
Midnight shook her head and pranced up to the hood. More mist came off her body and sunk into the hood.
The wolf pup yelped in shock from being awakened and fell behind Danny's head, pulling his hood back enough to show his green eyes. Annoyed, Star jumped onto his head again, the hood covering his eyes.
Dani tilted her head at the two. Danny smiled at her confused expression. "Don't worry, they do this all the time," he chuckled.
She smiled. Shaking her head, she looked at the boys with a straight face. "I still don't want you to scare people."
Danny groaned. "We're back to that?"
"Yes! You're scaring little kids and it's not nice! I want you to-"
She was interrupted when Star pounced towards Midnight, the hood pulling him back. He fell to the ground with a light thud and the hood fell to Danny's shoulders.
The Phantom of Halloween rolled his eyes and bent down to pick up the tired pup. When he was standing straight, Midnight took the wolf from him and placed him in Dani's hair.
Jack tried to hold back a laugh when the whining puppy stopped and turned around twice in her hair before plopping down. Both the teens laughed and Danny pulled his hood back up.
Taking a deep breath, the Halloween Spirit looked back at the girl. "Heheh, anyways, what were you saying?"
Dani just stared at him with wide green eyes on the verge of tears. Danny raised an eyebrow and cocked his head, still smiling slightly. "What?"
Before he could blink, Dani was hugging his neck, pulling the hood down again. Star fell off her head in the process with a yelp. Danny stumbled back from the force. "Oh Danny!" she cried. "I thought you were dead!"
Danny furrowed his eyebrows. As fast as she had hugged him, she let go. Now looking angry, the girl slapped him. Hard. "Don't ever scare me like that again! Ever!"
"OW!" the teen exclaimed, putting a hand to his cheek. "Why do I keep meeting people who know me when I don't. Know. THEM!"
Jack winced and held his staff just below the curve with both his hands. Dani looked at the dark haired teen sadly. "Y-You don't know me…?"
Danny rubbed the side of his face. "No, I don't know you, like I didn't know that Sam girl. You have the wrong guy!"
Dani slowly floated to the ground, tears now flowing freely. Danny sighed. "Look, I'm sorry. I know you thought I was someone else, but that's just, not me." Star flew back into his hair and Shadow sat by the girl. Looking back at Jack, Danny started to walk off. "I'll see you later Jack. I need to get Nightbound before he's killed. Talk to you later…"
With this, the raven-haired teen flew off. His coyote and Jack stayed back with Dani, whom was curled into herself. Shadow looked towards where his master flew off and shook his head. He looked back at the girl and whined.
Dani looked up at the dog with red-rimmed green eyes. Shadow licked her face comfortingly.
Sighing, the winter spirit knelt down next to her. "Sorry about him," Jack said, putting a hand on her back. "He doesn't remember his past life. I would show him his memories, but…" he trailed off.
The ghost girl looked up at him. "But what?" she asked between sobs.
Jack looked towards where his friends left. "I lost my memories too. But when I got them back, I saw why I lost them in the first place. I don't want him to see how he… died…"
Dani looked down and absent mindedly pat the coyote next to her. "So he did die… I can't say I thought he didn't. Really, Sam was the only one who still had hope that I know of." She laughed half-heartedly. "By what he said, I guess he snuffed out that light."
Jack smiled slightly. "I need to go talk with someone." He stood up and leaned on his staff. "I'm starting to rethink this decision…"
Dani nodded and leaned on Shadow. Said dog laid his head on her white locks.

Danny raced out of the Warren with Nightbound not too far behind. An egg was thrown his way and exploded into a purple and pink mist next to him.
"An' stay out, ya scoudrel!"
He laughed and flew till he reached a large field. "Alright, Nightbound. I think you're safe." The kangaroo jumped up and hopped away.
Danny smiled and turned to Midnight. "Do you know where Shadow is? I want to know how he grew while scaring that jock yesterday!"
Midnight shook her head. The teen frowned. "He's probably still with Jack. I'll just practice myself then…"
He snapped his fingers to summon the closest Shadow Animal. He didn't want to mess with Midnight and Star was still sleeping. Not that he wanted to do anything to him either.
No more than ten seconds later, a black mist snaked its way over to him. It formed into his newest animal, Dusk. The rabbit hopped around as Danny kneeled down.
"Hey, bud." Dusk stopped and stood on his hind legs. "I just want to try something, okay?"
The rabbit's tail wagged slightly. Danny let his hands hover by the black animal and focused his powers.
Closing his eyes, Danny kept thinking of more Black Mist and making Dusk bigger. Reaching within himself for the power to do so, his hands started to glow a bright green. He squinted to look at the rabbit in front of him. The teen jumped back when he saw the entire animal was glowing neon green, making it impossible to see the rabbit within.
The light got brighter and bigger, and the Halloween Spirit smiled at his hopeful success.
The light slowly dimmed down until only the green of Dusk's eyes and the black of his fur was left. He was the same size as before, much to Danny's disappointment. But now there were two black rods sticking out of the top of his head, only slightly bigger than his ears. The rods split in two near the top of them, forming a Y shape.
Dusk's ears twitched at the feeling of the new antlers on his head. The Phantom of Halloween smiled a bit, but face palmed none the less.
"Great, I made the first known Jackalope…"

Tucker shot down the stairs of his house. He woke up a half hour late and if he didn't hurry, he'd be late for school.
"Tucker!" his mom called. "You have to eat! I made bacon!"
"Sorry, Mom! I have to hurry!" He ran by her and towards the door. Before he left, he stopped, backtracked, and grabbed three pieces of bacon. "Bye!"
He stopped at the corner he usually met Sam at, the bacon already gone so he wouldn't get yelled at by his friend. When he saw she wasn't there, he looked at the time on his PDA. "Dang it Sam! We're gonna be late!"
The techno geek rushed off towards his friend's house and knocked on the door. Through pants, he was able to call, "Come… ON, Sam! We… have… to go!"
The door opened to show his friend. She was in her regular dark outfit with the purple spider back-pack, but her eyes were red and she looked like she'd been up all night.
"Sam?" Tucker asked. As a response, Sam pushed by him, closing the door behind her. "What's wrong?"
"I just realized something yesterday," she murmured, not stopping.
Raising an eyebrow, Tucker ran to her side. "What?"
Sam stopped in her tracks and looked at him. Taking a deep breath, she walked ahead.
"Danny's not coming back."
Wow. I'm actually tearing up. :,(
I know, I know, Danny may be a bit OOC here, but it all works out soon! Sort of… XD.
To be honest, I didn't think this would be more than 1,500 words. But nope, it's 2,000. LOL. Don't have much to say now…
