So it's the end of the week! Yay! I have time to write! :D
I am literally posting this 7 minutes before I got to bed! Sorry for not updating anything else, but this has been a crazy weekend. I'll update Mistake tomorrow and work on Nightfang over the week. :3
Thank you to the people who have reviewed! I know I still haven't taken down that poll, even though I said I would… I'm going to keep it up until I finish at least one of my stories so I can start the #1 voted idea. :3
WOW! CHAPTER 10! That's awesome! :D Okay not awesome, but hey! I'm in the two-digits!
DISCLAIMER: I do NOT own Danny Phantom or RotG! The idea and Shadow Animals are mine though! :)
Phantom Spirit
Chapter 10: Dark or Light?
Danny sat at the top of a high mountain. What mountain it was, he didn't know. Nor did he care.
His knees were pulled up and back arched. Midnight sat in his lap, not minding the small space between his legs and chest, with her head on Danny's shoulder.
The Phantom of Halloween stared into space, absentmindedly stroking the fawn. He had been there for a few minutes with no interruptions. His mind was anywhere but there.
'I can't believe Jack's been lying to me… We've been friends for so long and he keeps this secret from me! What is it? What is so bad that they can't tell me?!'
But there was a part of him that didn't agree. 'Should I even trust Pitch? I mean, he is the Boogeyman. He could be lying to get me on his side!'
The teen sighed, placing his face in his arms, not noticing the snow falling from the sky. Midnight stirred, trying to look at him and give some kind of comfort. But the problem was she didn't know why he was so distressed in the first place!
"Danny?"
Said boy looked up tiredly. Jack looked at him in confusion, landing from where he was floating in the air. "How'd you find me?" the younger spirit asked.
"I left after you were 'kidnapped' by your animals and went to spread snow. You're on the top of a mountain. A snowy mountain." Jack smiled slightly. "Finding you was like looking for black sheep in a snowstorm." His smile wiped away, now looking concerned. "But the real question is why are you out here?"
Danny was so tempted to ask for help, to seek some kind of comfort from his friend. But Pitch's words rang through his head again.
*"You didn't know? The way he's been nervous around you? How he always seemed guilty? What about when you were with those girls? You didn't notice his uncomfortable look? He's been keeping something from you. And by the looks of it, a big one too."*
Midnight sensed his distress mix anger and tried to sooth her master. All Danny did was stand up, making the fawn step onto the snow, send a half-hearted glare to Jack, and walked away.
The winter spirit furrowed his eyebrows and looked to Midnight. The Shadow Animal pranced in the air to Jack and nodded towards Danny's direction.
The two took off after the young spirit, catching up with him in the forest at the bottom of the mountain.
"Danny?" Jack asked cautiously, walking out into the large clearing. "Are you okay? What's wrong?"
"What's so bad that you can't tell me?!" the Halloween spirit shouted turning around to look at his friend.
Jack through his hands in the air, narrowly missing Midnight next to his head. "I don't know what you're talking about!"
"Yeah right!" Danny narrowed his eyes. "I know you're keeping some kind of secret! You and the Guardians!"
Midnight walked forward, still in the air, and lowered her head as if to say "Calm down."
Before Danny could reply, a menacing laughter sounded from behind him. Jack's blue eyes widened and he raised his staff.
"Why must you always greet me with weapons raised, Frost?" Pitch asked, emerging from the shadows of the forest.
"Pitch," Jack growled simply. Then realizing where his friend was, he added, "Danny! Get away from him!"
"Why should I?" Danny argued, still mad at the white haired teen.
"Daniel," Pitch continued. "Have you made a decision?"
"Decision?" Jack said, now worried. "What decision…?"
Midnight's green eyes widened and she flew forward. Grabbing onto her master's cloak, she tried to pull Danny away from the Boogeyman.
Jack slowly lowered his staff, still tense. "Danny, think about what you're doing. Do you really want to be evil?"
The cloth the fawn had been pulling ripped off, landing her next to the winter spirit. She stood up, dropping the black fabric to the floor, and looked pleadingly at her master.
"Choose Danny," Pitch called, making the dark teen look towards him. "Do you really want to be with them? Protecting people who don't see you with people who lie to you?"
The white haired teen thought for a moment about anything he could be lying about. Only then realizing what Danny meant.
His memories.
"Danny," he pleaded, holding out a hand to his friend. "I was going to tell you. I just didn't want you to be hurt. Please, do what's right."
The Halloween spirit looked towards the two. Jack still held out his hand while Midnight looked into his eyes, pleading him to take the teen's hand and come to them.
He switched his gaze to Pitch, who was smiling slightly and holding out his hand. Danny sighed and looked back to Jack and Midnight.
"I know what side I'm on…"
They seemed to lighten up, but their expression quickly changed to horror as he turned and walked to Pitch. Danny looked at the dark man and walked past him.
"I knew he would come around," Pitch said with a sneer. Midnight backed up behind Jack as the boy raised his staff. "You may not have joined me, Frost, but at least Danny here was smart enough to-"
He was cut off as he suddenly flew forward. Danny glared at the fallen spirit, his hands releasing green smoke. "I never said it was your side." Pitch growled and disappeared in the shadows.
Midnight jumped with joy and flew towards him, wrapping around his neck. Jack smiled and walked forward, but Danny held up a hand. "I'm still mad at you."
"Right, about that-"
"You made a big mistake, Phantom!" Pitch said from the forest. Fearlings and NightMares slunk out of the trees, the Boogeyman riding on one the horses.
"Oh please," the Halloween spirit said, rolling his eyes. "Who would want to join the Boogerman?"
Jack bit his lip and tried not to laugh while Pitch stared at him in shock. "The what?"
"You heard me." Danny smirked and crossed his arms. "No one wants to join the Boogerman. It's nasty."
Pitch scowled. "Boo."
The black sand animals charged forward, ready to tear the other spirits apart. Danny quickly snapped his fingers, summoning every Shadow Animal he could.
The wave of Fearlings was stopped by the sudden appearance of the Shadow Animals. The clearing was a mix of black mist and sand with the two spirits in the middle of it.
Jack tried his hardest not to freeze the misty animals, but went full out when he saw his ice blasts flew through them harmlessly. Danny fought next to Midnight and Shadow, destroying most of the Nightmares.
Danny shot his ectoblast at the nearest Fearling before looking around the battle field. Dawn, a misty bear, was fighting next to Rocky while Dusk was trying to protect Star. Though the little rabbit could take out a few black sand animals with his antlers, the enemies were still closing in on them.
The reaper-like teen whistled and pointed to the struggling Jackelope, causing Hunter and Shadow to go to the rescue. He shot at a black horse and continued to fight, now knowing the smaller Shadow Animals were safe.
Jack looked around the clearing for any animals in need of help. He narrowed his eyes in confusion at seeing no sign of the Boogeyman.
Scanning the tree line, he almost sighed in relief at seeing the salute of Pitch above the forest in the moon light.
Almost.
The man had a familiar black sand arrow pulled back in an imaginary bow. Quickly, the winter spirit looked at where it was aimed.
"Danny! Look out!" he screamed to his friend on the other side of the clearing.
Said teen looked up and just managed to catch sight of Pitch as he released the arrow. Green eyes widened before closing and turning away, his arms instinctively going up to shield himself.
All he heard was the arrow hitting a mark.
MUHAHAH! CLIFFY! *Realizes what she just did to the readers.* Oh crap…
