Phantom Spirit

Chapter 12: Remembering

Jack landed on one of the many purple and gold platforms, Danny landing beside him. Mini-fairies few all around them, occasionally waving to the two, but mostly just flying back and forth with teeth or coins. The white haired teen walked forward, feeling a bit better after a good flight, and searched the hummingbird-like sprites.

"Baby Tooth?" he called out, the sound echoing throughout the palace. Danny raised an eyebrow, but didn't question it.

Soon after, a small sprite flew towards them, circling Jack before plopping down in his hair. She bent down to look him in the eyes while staying on his head. The feathered girl smiled and tweeted a greeting.

The winter spirit laughed and lifted her off his head. He held her in front of him. "Hey, Baby Tooth! How's it goin'?"

The fairy tweeted like she was telling him a long story, her hands moving around in gestures. Finally, she chirped a final peep, rolling her eyes, and smiled back at him. Her purple eyes flicked to his burned hoodie, causing her smile to drop.

Flying forward, Baby Tooth began to chirrup at him in concern, pulling at his jumper to make sure he was unharmed. The Phantom of Halloween shifted uncomfortably, part of which because he wanted to get this over with, but mostly because he knew he was the reason for the burn…

"Hey!" Jack protested, pushing his blue hoodie back down. "I'm fine! That's not even why I'm here."

She ignored his statement and instead pointed to the black spot. He groaned. "It's nothing! I've been through worse!" She still stared at him sternly. The teen deflated. "Fine. It was a little accident with Danny, but it doesn't matter! We need to-"

Baby Tooth zoomed to the reaper-like teen and hovered right in front of his face. She began to tweet quickly with her small finger pointed at his nose. She crossed her arms, ending her scolding, and turned her head from him. The fairy flew back to Jack and sat in his hair like nothing ever happened.

Danny stared at where she had been, both in surprise and slight fear. Jack stifled his laughter at the look on his face.

He took a deep breath before plucking the fairy off his head again. "Okay, really. We need a favor, mostly because I don't think either of us could find our way around here." The sprite nodded, motioning for him to continue.

"We need his teeth," the winter spirit continued. Baby Tooth smiled before zipping away into the mob of sprites.

"Um…" Danny spoke up from behind him, out of his shock now. "What teeth?"

Jack turned towards his friend. "Your baby teeth, from before you were an immortal."

"But-"

"Yes, you were someone before 'Danny Phantom'." Jack smiled, and turned back to where Baby Tooth had flown towards.

It didn't take too long before she came back holding a golden container, obviously having a slight problem. "Thanks," the winter teen said, taking the tooth container from her. She smiled at him, silently thanking him for taking the weight off her shoulders, literally.

Jack looked at the capsule. It looked like every other one did: a golden tube with a flat, white side decorated with blue and green diamonds. The only difference was the picture of a smiling boy with black, shaggy hair and wide blue eyes.

He tossed it to Danny, who clumsily caught it. He looked it over before gazing back at Jack. "And I do what now?"

Baby Tooth flew forward and placed a hand on the middle diamond. Danny looked at her, than Jack before placing three fingers on the blue rhombus. His vision faded into the colorful shapes.

"Santa is real!" a large man in an orange jumpsuit cried.

"He's a ho ho HOAX!" the woman beside him wearing a blue jumpsuit yelled back.

A little black haired boy stared at his parents from his mobile crib, too young to understand everything around him. He sucked on his pacifier while a girl in a black shirt and red hair stood behind him.

As the two argued, the girl walked away to look at the Christmas trees they had originally planned to buy. A yellow dog with reindeer antlers walked up to the boy and sniffed him. Turning, the dog lifted his leg.

A raven-haired boy, around 6-7 years old, sat on a park bench watching other kids about his age play on the field. He sighed and lay down on the bench.

"Um, hi?"

He turned his head to see a dark skinned boy with a yellow shirt and a little-to-big red hat. "I'm Tucker, and I was wondering if you wanted to play?"

The black haired boy sat up. "Okay."

A 14 year old, raven haired boy sat in the corner of a classroom as the teacher talked. 'First period sucks…' he thought as he tried to keep his eyes open.

The door opened and a girl dressed up in black walked in. "You must be Samantha?" the teacher, a woman with curly brown hair, asked.

"Sam," the girl corrected.

The boy stared at the new girl, but was broken out of his trance by one of the popular girls.

"Pff! What's with the black?" the black haired, beautiful girl asked. "You a Goth or something? Cause that's really stupid."

"I'm unique!" Sam spat, glaring at the girl. "You're just like every other shallow girl!"

"So?"

"Let the girl be herself!" the boy in the corner shouted, surprising both females and himself.

"Enough!" the teacher interrupted. "Sit down Samantha."

"SAM!"

"This is so cool!" Tucker said while Sam took a picture of the octagonal hole in the wall.

"Not really," the raven haired boy said, standing beside him and Sam.

"Oh! I know!" Ignoring his comment, she put a white jumpsuit in his hands and pushed him towards the "Ghost Portal."

"Say cheese!" she teased, taking another picture.

The boy blinked away the dots in his eyes and shook his head. "Okay, you saw it. Can we go now, before my parents find us? Besides, they say it doesn't work anyways…"

"Oh come on, Danny!" Sam pleaded. "A Ghost Portal? You have to check it out!"

Danny looked at the non-active portal. "You know what? You're right… Who knows what kind of awesome, super-cool things could exist on the other side of that portal!"

He slipped the white jumpsuit on, buckled the black belt, and pulled on the black boots and gloves. When the boy finished, he started to walk towards the portal.

"Hold on!" Sam walked up and ripped the picture of his father's face from his chest. "You can't go walking around with this on your chest."

The teen walked into the metal cave and looked around. Blue wires hung around everywhere like vines in a jungle. Though the portal was in-active, the walls still glowed a slight blue.

He tripped on a wire beneath his foot and put his hand on the wall. The portal buzzed to life.

"I am Skulker, the Ghost Zone's greatest hunter!"

"I am Tecknus! Master of all things electronic and beeping!"

"I'm the Box Ghost!"

"So you have wished it, and so it shall be…"

"Aw, Daniel… My little Badger."

"That's against the rules…"

"Master of all things cubic and square!-"

"Ember! You will remember my name!"

"Amigo!"

"When you last shouted others, there's enmity earned. You're stuck in this poem till your lesson is learned."

"All is how it should be…"

"Aw, Great One!"

"-With the occasional bubble wrap. Bow down to my cubic wrath!"

"You don't understand. I'm still here, which means you still turn into me."

"My past, your future, it's inevitable."

The white haired Halfa was surrounded almost instantly by the few people that were in Antarctica with them, asking questions about how he had done it.

"Nice job, Danny," a voice said behind him. Danny Phantom turned around to see the two that had hunted him ever since he had his powers. Jack and Maddie looked at him sternly, causing his stomach to clench.

"Or should we say," Jack wrapped an arm around his wife and smiled. "Danny."

The boy blinked before putting a hand in front of him. "Uh, sorry, citizen! I have no idea what you're talking about!" he said in a cheesy-hero tone.

Maddie grabbed his hand and looked him in the eyes. "Is there something you would like to tell us?"

"It's okay, they know," Jazz said from beside him.

Danny looked at her, than to the camera men in the crowd around him. Taking a deep breath, he let his transformation rings pass over him.

"Come on, Danny!" Sam protested.

"No, Sam!" he told his girlfriend. "I can handle the patrol for tonight. You guys go home and rest."

"What about you though, dude?" Tucker asked on the other side of him.

"What about you?" the Halfa shot back. "You're the mayor now! You need your sleep!"

"And you don't?" Sam interrupted, crossing her arms.

"Not as much as you two. I'll be fine! You guys go home and I'll do the same soon."

The two sighed, realizing he wasn't going to change his mind, and reluctantly walked away. Sam turned back quickly, and kissed the Halfa. "Promise you'll be okay?"

"I'll be fine, Sam." Danny kissed her forehead. "You know me! I get out of the worst of situations."

The Goth chuckled. "Fine." She started to walk away, but turned back to him and said something that raised his spirit and confidence.

"I believe in you, Danny. I always have, always will."

Danny smiled and changed into Phantom before flying over the town.

After he scanned the whole town, with only the Box Ghost to deal with, he decided to head home. The white haired teen looked up at the full moon above him, the moonbeams shining down on him as if to protect him. He smiled and turned back to his destination, Fenton Works just showing up over the other building.

A pain started in his chest and he fell to the ground. Danny put a hand to his torso and looked at the burn mark, green steam coming from it. 'An ectogun? At this time?' he thought.

He stood up, pretty much used to being shot at, and got ready to fly back to his house again.

Another shot hit him in the back, causing him to fall. Danny quickly stood up and spun around, his green-lit hands lighting up the alley behind him.

To say the least, he was surprised.

"I thought the Guys in White were shut down?" he asked the two men in white suits as they walked out of the alley.

"The GiW is funded by many people," the first said, aiming his gun. "We can't be shut down because of some teenagers."

"And we are allowed to experiment on what we please," the second said. "What better than a half human half ghost hybrid?"

The first shot at him, knocking the teen to the building across the street. Danny hissed and phased through the wall. 'Just stay low and get home. I'm too tired to fight these losers.'

He flew underground, still intangible, and came back up in front of his home. "Ugh, they're crazy…" he mumbled.

The hum of an ectogun caught his attention. Phantom rolled to the side and just barely missed the green bullet. His eyes widened at the sight in front of him.

Guys in White were everywhere, all with some kind of gun aimed at him.

"Okay, lots of crazy losers..."

The first man fired, causing the others to follow. He dodged them all, though just barely. Danny scanned the street for anybody waking up because of the commotion. No one.

'Everyone is probably used to this…'

Realizing they weren't going to hit him any time soon, the men tried to think of something else.

One seemed to light up, like a light bulb popped up above him.

He turned his blaster towards the odd home at the end of the street and fired.

Danny noticed this and rushed towards the home.

His home.

'There's no time…' he thought. The Halfa narrowed his eyes in determination, Sam's words ringing through his head. He only made it in time to block the blast, knocking himself out in the process.

"They're looking for him, sir."

"And?"

"They'll look here soon, you know this."

"Hm… You're right… We don't need him anymore anyways. He's weak and we need nothing more of him."

"What do we do?"

"Dispose of him."

"On it."

X.X.X.X.X

A white helicopter flew above a wide forest, the side door opening as it hovered there. A small, dark object was dropped from it before it zoomed away.

At closer inspection, the "object" turned out to be a boy. A white haired boy in a ripped up jumpsuit. He was covered in cuts, bruises, and green blood, barely alive.

He cracked his dull, lime green eyes open to look at his surroundings. He was happy to be free again, but he also knew he wasn't exactly free.

'I'm sorry I never came back. I should have let you come with me. I wish I could just see all of you once more…'

'I'm so, so sorry…'

His green eyes slowly looked at the bright moon above him. The stars twinkled around it and he could barely make out the constellations, but his focus was on the moon. Its light protected him from the darkness and shadows around him, promising a better future after this.

The boy smiled faintly, finally letting the white rings change him back to the black haired teen. He was in the same condition: ripped clothes, dull eyes, and blood, but now it was red.

'I believe in you Danny...' a voice echoed in his head.

His eyes lost any light that had been there before they closed and his breathing stopped.

The moon light intensified and the dead boy's clothes began to change from a torn up T-shirt and jeans to a black cloak. The unhealed cuts mended until they were either gone or an unnoticeable pink. Color and life began to come back to his dull hair and pale skin until it looked alive and new.

His bright, glowing green eyes flickered open.

"Danny Phantom, the Spirit of Halloween…"

Danny blinked away the diamonds that filled his vision again. He stared at the box in shock, fear, confusion, and so many more.

Jack furrowed his eyebrows. "Danny? Are you okay? What did you see?"

The teen took his hand off the tooth capsule and reached up to the neckline of his cloak. For a few moments, he just played around idly with the rim. 'Do I really want to look…? It could prove all that wasn't just a… dream, a fantasy…'

"Danny?" Jack tried again, taking a step forward with Baby Tooth flying by his head. "What's wro-"

The reaper-like teen pulled his black cloak down to reveal his chest. The other two immortals stopped in their tracks.

Danny looked down slowly, his breath catching in his throat.

A light, faded scar shaped as a Y ran from each of his shoulders and past where he held the cloak at.

OKAY. I'M SO TIRED. WHY DO I WRITE SO LATE?!
