FINALLY GOT A NEW LAPTOP! Now I can ACTUALLY type on something other than my PHONE!

Bad news...? There's no Paint on it... Review if you know a good download for the laptop like PaintTool SAI, or I won't have covers for my stories! And my DeviantArt would have been made for nothing. :P

Sorry that it's been so long! Hope this will make up for it! :3

Phantom Spirit

Chapter 13: Back Together

Danny quickly let go of his cloak and blinked. "Well, uh... That actually explains a lot..." he said quietly, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Danny...?" Jack started, reminding the teen of the other two still present. "Mind explaining?"

"Right..." Danny's eyes suddenly lit with realization. "I'll explain later!" He put two fingers to his mouth and whistled. The Winter Spirit jumped as three clusters of black mist snaked between his legs. Baby Tooth squealed and hid in his hood, thinking it was Pitch.

Shadow, Star and a raccoon formed from the smoke. Star's tail dragged on the ground and his head was bowed. Shadow put a paw on his back, causing the young pup to look up at him with glazed green eyes. The coyote lowered to the ground, the wolf leaning into him.

Danny sighed and bent down besides them. "Thief, go get someone for me."

The rodent nodded and ran off the golden perch they were standing on. Danny patted Shadow's head and stood. "We should go. I have a few people to talk with."

Jack looked at the fairy buzzing by his head and followed the reaper-like teen and canines out of Tooth Palace.

They landed just outside Amity Park, the moon still out. Star had curled up in Danny's arms, whining every so often. Shadow sat below the pup, looking up every time he made a noise. Jack looked around. "What are we waiting for?"

"Thief," the raven haired teen replied simply.

"Okay... Why?"

"He's bringing someone."

Before the spirit could comment, shouting started not too far behind him.

"Let go! What are you doing?! Let. Me. GO!"

The same raccoon flew above them and dropped a familiar girl in between them. Thief landed next to Jack and hissed at the raven haired girl. Dani shot up to her feet. "Stupid rodent!" she shouted, getting ready to fire an ectobeam.

Danny put Star down next to Shadow and rushed to stand between them. "Woah! I've already lost one of these guys this night!" With this distraction, Thief hissed again and fell to the ground like water before snaking away.

"Why the hell am I here!" the clone shouted, her voice shaky.

"Listen," The teen put his hands on her shoulders. "I'll explain everything soon, but right now I need you to get someone."

"Why don't you get one of your minions to get them!"

He flashed a small smile. "I highly doubt Jazz wants to be kidnapped by an animal."

Her blue eyes widened slightly. "J-Jazz...?"

Danny stood up and nodded. "I need you and Jack to get Jazz, I'll get Sam, and..." He smirked evilly. "To cheer Star up, Shadow and him can get Tucker. Everyone meet at the park, K?"

The hummingbird-like fairy tweeted and crossed her arms. He rubbed his neck nervously, not wanting another "lecture". "Heheh... Right. Baby Tooth can just stay with Jack."

Everyone nodded and went their separate ways. Danny smiled. "Alright, come on Midn-" His smile faded as he pulled his hood up. "Right..."

Sighing, the teen flew into the town and followed the familiar streets. Arriving at Sam's house, he landed gently on the windowsill. He knocked on the window lightly.

A groan sounded from behind and a slight "Hold on" before the window slid open. Sam moved the messy black hair from her eyes, blinking a bit, before her violet eyes narrowed. "What do you want?" she whispered, crossing her arms over a dark purple night shirt.

"We're going to the park," he said simply, a small smile forming under the shadows of his hood. The last time he saw her, not only was he not really himself, he also made her cry. The teen made a silent note to make up for that. "Meeting a few people."

"No," she said lowly. "I don't want to have anything to do with you!"

His smile fell. "I... I get that... But I need to talk with you guys." He held his hand out and grabbed hers. "Please?"

Sam exhaled quickly. "Fine."

The smile returned in a full grin. "Let's go then!"

The girl crawled onto the windowsill and looked around. Raising an eyebrow, she asked, "Didn't you have some companion? Like a deer or something? Or did that abandon you?"

Danny's shoulders slumped and his hand tightened its grip on hers. "She died..."

Sam looked up in shock, staring at the shadows she knew his face was hiding in. "Oh, I didn't mean to-"

"Let's go." Jumping into the air, he pulled the girl with him. Not long passed before they saw the park and landed. Dani, Jack, Baby Tooth, and Jazz were already there.

"Sam!" Jazz said, surprised. "How did you do that?"

"Do what?"

"DUH! You just flew out of nowhere!"

Sam looked at the apparently invisible Phantom of Halloween. "I had help."

Before anyone could reply, screaming echoed around the town.

"HELP! I'M BEING ABDUCTED! HELP ME! AAHHH!"

Jack and Danny couldn't help but laugh at the sound as Shadow and Star came into view, a thrashing Tucker held in their paws. Star sat on his cap, tongue lolling, while Shadow had a grip on the back of the geeks pajama shirt.

At this point, everyone waiting below was laughing slightly at the sight. Shadow, to add extra humor, dived towards them. Star yipped in delight. Tucker doing the absolute opposite. He stopped just before hitting the ground and dropped the teen the rest of the way. He scrambled to his feet and hid behind the closest person; Dani.

Star looked much happier, much to Shadow's relief.

As everyone calmed down, Tucker still crouched behind the Halfa shaking. "It's not funny! That thing tried to kill me!"

Sam shook her head with a smile. Looking up at Danny, a small smile still on her face, she broke the laughter. "Okay, okay. Mind telling us why we're here?"

Danny smiled slightly. "Can't exactly do that if they can't see Jack, Baby Tooth and I, now can I?"

She rolled her eyes and turned back to the others. "Do me a favor, guys, and close your eyes."

Tucker peaked around Dani. "Why?! Take our eyes off of THEM? No thanks!"

"Just do it!"

The geek and Jazz looked at each other before deciding Sam was probably worse than the Shadow Animals. They shut their eyes hesitantly.

"Okay, now when you open your eyes at three, Jack frost, uh..." She looked up at Danny. "Baby Tooth...?"

"Tooth Fairy assistant."

"Okay then..." Her gaze went back to the three in front of her. "Jack Frost, the Tooth Fairy's assistant, and..." Sending a small glance at him, she continued. "The Phantom of Halloween will be here."

Danny felt a tug at his heart. 'The Phantom of Halloween... Why wouldn't she say Danny? She must really not like me right now...'

"Really, Sam?" Jazz said, her eyebrows raising despite her closed eyes. "You expect me to believe that?"

Sam glared at her, fully knowing Jazz couldn't see her at the moment. "I expect you to trust me! Would I lie?"

Silence.

"That's what I thought."

Jack sent a look at Danny. "You okay? You seem tense."

"One."

"I'm fine... Just hurts to see Sam here when she hates me..."

"Two."

"She doesn't hate you! She's just frustrated." He put a hand on the boys shoulder. "You just need to show her it's still you."

"Three."

Tucker and Jazz opened their eyes and stared in shock at the two newly formed teens beside their friend. "Dude..." Tucker mumbled, standing up.

"There, they see you," Sam stated, crossing her arms. "Now why are we here? I kinda want to go back to bed!"

Danny stood still for a moment. 'Show her it's still me...'

"Hello?" Sam snapped. "We don't have all... night..."

The spirit gently turned her head towards him, their eyes locking. With a breath of reassurance, he leaned forward and kissed her. Sam froze at first, not understanding what was going on. Then, a familiar feeling passed over her and she joined in. Gasps sounded around them, but neither two minded.

Besides them, Baby Tooth clasped her hands by her heart and hummed sweetly at the adorable scene. Next to her, Jack had a hand over his mouth, trying to stifle his laughter. "Not exactly what I meant," he whispered to himself, "but this works!"

Sam's arms wrapped around Danny's neck, pushing his hood down. More surprised gasps and a slight sob came from their friends, but the couple were in their own world. When they pulled apart, green eyes stared into violet.

"...Danny?" Sam whispered shakily. "It's actually you, right?"

The boy chuckled lightly. "It was always me, I just didn't have my memories until just 30 minutes ago." His smile fell. "I'm sorry for making you cry, Sam... If I had only been more careful a year ago-"

She put a hand to his mouth and glared half-heartedly. "Stop blaming yourself, Danny. We shouldn't have just let you go."

Jazz ran over and joined in the hug, tears streaming freely down her face. Tucker walked over and wrapped an arm over his friends shoulder. "You're missing for over a year and still turn out to be the hero?" he teased.

"Shut up Tuck, or I'll sick Shadow on ya."

"Who?" His eyes lit up in realization. "Dude! If you're back, you can help with this Shadow Animal crap! Scared the pants off me!"

Wiggling his way out of the hug, Danny and Jack burst out laughing. Tucker looked between them. "What?"

"And they call me clueless?" Clicking his tongue, Shadow jumped from behind and weaved between the geek's legs. After making it through, earning a frightened yelp from Tucker, he sat at Danny's feet. The Phantom of Halloween smirked and patted his head. "Good boy, Shadow."

"THOSE THINGS ARE YOURS?!"

To answer his question, Star yipped and jumped into Danny's arms. He yawned and crawled up into his hood to lay in his hair. The females of the group 'awed' at the sight while Jack and Danny laughed at Tuckers face.

"I'VE BEEN GETTING SCARED BY MY BEST FRIEND?!"

"Technically," the raven haired spirit started, bending down to scratch the coyote's pelt, "You've been scared of my Shadow Animals. But I guess, because I control them, yes. You've been scared of your friend. Though indirectly."

"Since when did you get all smart!"

"Tucker," Dani said behind him, "even I knew that."

"Okay, okay," Jazz interrupted. "We all love each other, some less than others." A small glance was sent towards Tucker. "But we have a lot of questions, Danny!"

He sighed. "I know... What first?"

Sam stepped forward. "What happened that day? Why are you suddenly the 'Phantom of Halloween'?"

The spirit bit his lip. Everyone had their eyes on him, even Jack and Baby Tooth. "The... The Guys in White happened..."

The two spirits tilted their heads in confusion while the rest stared in shock. "They finally caught you...?" Tucker said warily.

"Yeah... Not pleasant, to say the least."

"How'd you escape?"

"I..."

"He didn't," Jack finished for him. Judging by the scar on his chest, the Winter spirit just guessed. "It's why he lost his memories."

Everyone looked at him for an explanation. All but Danny, who sat uncomfortably on the ground.

"When a person is chosen to be a spirit," Jack started, going off what he knew, "they have to have something special. An ability or characteristic. If they are chosen, they do their job, try to get believers so they can be seen, and just go on in life. Never aging and in some cases, never changing. But if the person... dies, their memories are taken so they don't live in grief when their family and friends can't see them. Danny and I are the only spirits I know of that had died before becoming a spirit. It's rare, from what I've heard."

Nobody talked. They all were too shocked and sad to say anything. Jack just continued. "Usually, if they die in a heroic way, they can be special in the spirit life. Like me. I died saving my sister from drowning. Now I'm one of the most powerful spirits and Protector of Childhood. Danny must have died in a similar way. He's also a very powerful spirit."

Danny furrowed his eyebrows. "I thought you said you didn't know much about dead spirits?"

The older spirit shrugged. "I've spent lots of times in North's library. Ya learn lots."

"Why isn't Danny a 'Protector of Childhood' then?" Dani asked, drawing the attention to her.

"We're trying to get him to." The winter spirit smirked at Danny. "Once he finds his Center, I'm sure he'll want to."

"Center?"

"It's the thing you protect. Like how I'm the Guardian of Fun, or North the Guardian of Wonder."

"Oh..."

Jazz bent down to hug his brother. "I'd ask for details, but I don't think I want it..."

"Probably not..."

Holding him arm length by his shoulders, she stared sternly at him, eyes a bit red and watery. "We still have questions!"

"I know..."

"Wait!" Everyone turned towards Tucker. "This is great and all, and I'd love for a 'Get to Know Danny' day later. But, since you're this 'Phantom of Halloween' or whatever, could you STOP with the nightmares!" He crossed his arms. "It's really annoying."

The three spirits shared a worried glance. "I'm not the one giving the dreams..."
