Honestly?

Sometimes Bakugo's life circumstances made him think God hated him. Why else would he be here right now? Why else would a mini Deku be in his arms? One that didn't know how fucked in the head he was? That he didn't want to find out any sooner than he had to?

"Kacchan?"

Bakugo shook his head, clearing it of the negative thoughts that were creeping in. He needed to have a clear mind for this.

"Bakugo. You'll be the one taking care of Midoriya for the next week."

The boy in question stared at his teacher in disbelief. Did he lose his insomniac mind?! Why would he take care of Deku when literally anyone else would be a better idea. Sure, Deku had immediately recognized him and jumped into his arms, but that didn't mean anything.

"What about Cheeks?! Or IcyHot?! Glasses?!" He sputtered, ignoring the wide eyes looking up at him, seemingly understanding Bakugo was trying to pawn him off.

"He asked for you," Aizawa shrugged, "When we told him he was at 'hero school' he asked for you. Said he knew you'd be here with him. Besides, problem child, you knew him at this age. You have the most qualifications."

Bakugo felt a lump in his throat at hearing what little Deku had said. He was so little. They probably hadn't even gotten their quirks yet.

"H-How long did you say?"

"A week. It was just a quirk accident so it's not a big deal. Just make sure he doesn't die."

Slowly, Bakugo nodded, holding the boy in his arms tighter. It was unconscious, but not unnoticed.

"Okay."

With that, he left the room, walking down the hallway dazed.

"Kacchan can put me down." Midoriya whispered, wiggling out of Bakugo's grasp.

"Right."

Gently, he lowered Midoriya to the ground, offering his hand only for it to be silently declined.

Oh.

He felt a certain pain in his chest as he continued to walk, slowly so Midoriya could keep up. Now, he thought, he knew they must've already gotten their quirks. Or he had, anyway. He had probably already ruined everything. Ruined their friendship. Ruined their future. Ruined his life and Deku's. God, what was wrong with him? As a damn child he was already fucked up.

His thoughts were interrupted by a small sniffle and looked down to find Midoriya wiping his tears.

Oh, God, he had ruined everything. Deku already hated him. It was too late. He'd have to hand him to someone else, there was no way Deku wouldn't be scared of him. Aizawa was crazy, he couldn't do this.

A little sob jolted him again and Midoriya was hugging himself tightly.

"Why're ya crying?"

"K-Kacchan doesn't wanna be around me," He sniffed, staring at the floor, "Kacchan wants to give me to someone else."

His chest hurt once again at the small voice's words.

"No, I don't."

"Yeah you do. I heard Kacchan."

Bakugo took a shaky breath before crouching down to wipe the tears off Midoriya's chubby cheeks with a small smile.

"I don't fuckin' lie. You know that."

Midoriya stared at him for a minute before looking down again, messing with his oversized shirt.

"I dunno. Maybe you're different now that you're big."

Bakugo wiped his own eyes before opening his arms to the boy. He was devil spawn now, but if Deku didn't know he wasn't going to tell him.

"I'm not. I promise. C'mere, Zuzu."

He hadn't used that name in God knows how long, but little Deku didn't even know Deku was a thing. Midoriya was an option, but he didn't call him that a day in his life, why should he start?

Midoriya hesitated momentarily but eventually threw himself at Bakugo, wrapping his arms around his neck and burying his face in his chest.

"You're the same?"

"Exactly the same."

"Are you still my friend?"

Holding him tighter, Bakugo nuzzled soft green hair, pressing a kiss to it. As he walked, he rested his chin on the small head, trying to convey the answer without the words he was so bad at using. But then he had his answer, and he knew little Deku needed it.

"Always will be."

•••

When Bakugo arrived at the dorms, he was bombarded by his classmates in the common room.

"A baby?!"

"A child?"

"With Bakugo?!"

Midoriya finally pulled away from Bakugo, turning to see all his friends approaching. Though, he didn't know that.

"Kacchan?! Who are they?!"

"They're your friends from hero school."

His eyes grew wide and he clapped excitedly before wiggling out of Bakugo's grasp and running towards the teens. But this time, he grabbed Bakugo's hand first.

"He was fuckin' hit with a quirk, he'll be a kid for a week." Bakugo explained as they cooed, "Mr. Aizawa put me in charge of him."

Everyone looked up at him then, skeptical. He felt small under everyone's gaze, brows furrowing in confusion.

"What?"

"I don't...think you should be in charge of Deku," Uraraka said bluntly, running her fingers through the boy's hair.

"I agree! You aren't suitable for taking care of children, Bakugo." Iida nodded.

"Yes. One of us should do it instead." Todoroki piped up.

Although he'd suggested it to Aizawa, his stomach became a knot at their words. He felt sick as he glanced at his other friends, all nodding and muttering in agreement.

"One of us will take him right off your hands!" Mina beamed, scooping Midoriya up, "You probably don't want him anyway."

"Kacchan wants me!" He cried out, making grabby hands at the one in question. Bakugo walked over and took him carefully, impulsively pressing a kiss to his forehead. It was a surprising gesture to the rest of the room, but Midoriya just giggled and clung to him.

"Would you like me to make him some clothes?" Momo offered, smiling warmly, "I'm sure he'll need a few outfits for the week."

Bakugo nodded, trying to focus on her instead of the thick air of judgement in the room. Excited, she practically skipped over and asked Midoriya what kind of outfits he'd like.

"All Might! Anything All Might!"

Momo was quick to do as requested, making the clothes with minimal effort. Soon there was a small pile of shirts, shorts, hoodies, pants, shoes, socks, and pajamas.

"Isn't this a bit much, Ponytail?" Bakugo asked taking the offered clothes, "It's just a week."

"He's cute!" She laughed in response, "He's like a little doll! Dress him up!"

They shared a smile before Midoriya tugged on Momo's hand, pulling her close to whisper in her ear. The girl nodded, before creating one more outfit and adding it to the top.

Glancing at it, Bakugo saw what he thought was a shirt of his hero costume. He looked up to ask but she just pointed at the boy in his arms who was bouncing with excitement.

"I wanna go change, Kacchan!"

"Alright." He breathed, thanking Momo and rushing to his room, feeling angry gazes on his back.

•••

"Alright, don't be bratty when we go back out," Bakugo said, with no venom or real scolding behind it, "You were good right now, but you can get bitchy real quick."

"Wah! Kacchan!" Midoriya slapped his hands on Bakugo's mouth, "Stop using bad words!"

"You didn't mind earlier!"

"I mind now!"

Bakugo scoffed before grabbing the hands on his mouth and pressing light kisses to them.

"Tch. I'm old now, De- Zuzu. I can say whatever I want."

Midoriya tilted his head in thought, seemingly thinking as Bakugo gently took off his shirt and picked one from the pile.

"Wait!" He yelled abruptly as Bakugo picked up a classic All Might shirt, "I want the Kacchan shirt!"

Oh.

So it was based off his costume.

"A-Are you sure? All Might is...way cooler than me."

Midoirya pouted, huffing as he plopped into the floor and crossed his arms.

"I wanna wear the Kacchan shirt! The pretty girl made it for me!"

"I told you, you're bitchy!"

"No! Stop!"

"Bitchy."

"Kacchan!"

Bakugo let out a gruff laugh, and slipped the shirt over Midoriya's head. He turned to prepare the rest of the clothes but stopped when Midoriya put down his arms and rested his hands on the floor, gaze down.

"Do you still love me?"

That triggered something in Bakugo, a memory he pushed back in his head. Midoriya asked that a lot as kids, he asked anyone who cared about him. Auntie Inko, his mom, his dad, Bakugo himself. He never found out why, but as a kid it got annoying. Looking back, seeing him now, he was just scared.

And Bakugo still fucked up.

He still messed up. He saw how delicate Deku was, but continued to hurt him. Why wasn't he nicer? Why did he leave him? He threw away the best person on this Earth and now? He would never get those years back. That precious time.

"Kacchan?"

Bakugo suddenly realized he was crying, tears spilling down his cheeks. At some point, Midoriya had stumbled over, clinging to Bakugo's pant leg. He made grabby hands, asking to be picked up with wet eyes.

The blonde picked him up, walking to his bed and sitting down on the edge.

"What's wrong Zuzu?" He asked softly, hiding his face, "Is it that I didn't answer?"

He shook his head, clumsily pulling Bakugo's face towards him and wiping away the tears.

"Kacchan got sad so I got sad."

"I'm fine."

"Kacchan always says that, but Kacchan is still sad," Midoriya scolded, holding one of Bakugo's hands in both of his, "I know Kacchan gets upset. It's okay."

Bakugo chuckled, pulling Midoriya into a tight squeeze. It wasn't unlike hugging a pillow or stuffed toy, just a little warmer and it hugged back.

"Do you still love me?"

"Don't ask silly questions, Kacchan. Of course I do."

"I love you, too."

•••

When Midoriya stumbled out of the elevator, everyone in the room jumped up in excitement. He rushed to the sofas, dragging Bakugo behind him.

"Whatcha doin'?!" He asked excitedly, not letting go of Bakugo's hand.

"We're gonna watch a movie!" Kaminari beamed, "You wanna join baby bro?!"

Before Midoriya could agree, Bakugo scooped him up, cradling protectively to his chest. He did't know what the dumb fucks were up to, but he could feel something was off.

"What movie?"

"Princess Mononoke!"

"Then no. We're leaving."

There was a crowd of groans, tossing him protests. He honestly didn't care, there was no way in hell he'd let Deku watch that. Plus, Auntie Inko would kill him for the gore in that movie.

"Bakubro!" Kirishima cried, running up to him and blocking the elevator, "Don't be a party pooper! It's a great film."

"Not for a fucking four year old, dumbass."

"Well neither is your language!"

Bakugo bit his lip, glancing down to see little Midoriya looking up at him with big pleading eyes. He knew the boy wanted to watch a movie with his friends, but goddamn this was a terrible time for PG-13.

"Pick somethin' else and we'll stay." He finally sighed, smiling gently at Midoriya as he clapped joyfully.

"What?" Kirishima bristled, "You want us to change for you? Just let him watch Mononoke! It's like an All Might movie!"

"We weren't allowed to watch those movies as little kids, idiot."

"Ugh. I'll ask everyone else."

They waited as Kirishima jogged over to the teens on the rugs and bean bags. Bakugo felt some glares and eye rolls tossed his way, but he just pressed a kiss to Midoriya's round cheek and beamed when he kissed him back.

"They're really affectionate, ribbit!" Tsuyu said absently, watching the pair as Bakugo lifted Midoriya onto his shoulders and the boy nuzzled blonde hair.

"Why though?" Uraraka wondered, "He never has been before? He's usually so bitter towards him!"

"Maybe even Bakugo can't bully a child?" Sero suggested, shrugging.

"That's just not true," Todoroki said, "I've seen him with kids."

They sat stumped for a moment before Kirishima brought the topic of the movie back up.

"So we switching or what?"

"Sure," Mina shrugged, "it means we get to hang with baby Izuku so it's worth it. Maybe we can convince Bakugo to let one of us keep him!"

"Fat chance."

Nonetheless, Kirishima brought them over, Bakugo plopping onto the couch and letting Midoriya be spoiled by the class. Momo sat next to him, hesitant but unafraid.

"He really loves you," She commented, "We can all tell."

"He was an affectionate kid."

"You know I don't mean just right now."

Bakugo let out a shaky breath, biting his lip and feeling the rings of his piercings. Running a hand through his hair, he deflated, looking at the girl tiredly.

"We've just known each other a long time, is all."

"I know there's more than that."

"There really isn't."

"Bakugo, we're both at the top of our class, don't act stupid."

He let out a bitter laugh at that, turning his attention to Midoriya, who was playing with Tsuyu's hair as Kirishima and Kamanari argued over which Frozen movie to watch. Eventually Tokoyami of all people interrupted saying the first one was superior, making Kaminari fist pump in victory and pop the DVD in.

"I know you don't want to admit it, but you love him too. That's why you're being so protective."

"Wow, you guys are just surprised I'm not a bitch."

"Bakugo," Momo rested a hand on his arm, "The sooner you admit it the better. You love him. I hope this experience helps open your eyes."

With that, she went to a beanbag and sat down with Todoroki snuggling into his side as he wrapped an arm around her. They had matching turtlenecks, something Bakugo had always failed to notice.

He wanted something like that.

He wanted that with the boy he grew up with. The one he was finally cherishing. Too little too late, but better than nothing. He craved the affection he was receiving from the teen he knew now, the boy who had grown with him and helped him change. He was desperate for it. But Midoriya would grow up again, and they'd drift apart again, leaving him behind. He didn't want it, but it was inevitable.

Bakugo shook his head aggressively, as if to get rid of his thoughts and feelings.

As the movie started and popcorn was passed around, Midoriya ended up in Uraraka's lap on the floor. He was passed around throughout the film, but somehow always missing Bakugo. It wasn't until he jumped off of Mina's lap and announced that he wanted Kacchan that he got to sit with him.

Once wrapped in Bakugo's caring arms, Midoriya grew drowsy. He was barely falling asleep when the class jumped up in outrage as Hans pulled away from Anna, shocking him awake.

"Bastard!" Kaminari cried, "It's okay Anna! You're too good for him anyway!"

"Haven't you watched this like a hundred times?" Jirou smiled quirking a brow.

"Maybe! But it still hurts!"

"You're such a crybaby."

Despite her words, she gently took his hand, soothing him.

"Kacchan?"

Bakugo looked down at the sleepy Midoriya, gripping his shirt tightly.

"Yeah?"

"Can I sleep?"

"Of course, Zuzu."

With a final yawn, he passed out, drooling on his shirt in minutes. He stroked the green hair gently, watching as the credits rolled and Kaminari jammed out to Demi Lovato's Let it Go. He rested Midoriya against the arm as he stood to get some water and most of the class left. The only people remaining were Uraraka, Iida, and Todoroki who met him in the kitchen.

"So…" Uraraka started twirling her hair nervously, "Is Deku staying the night with you?"

"Yeah. What about it?"

They shared a glance before Todoroki sighed heavily and raised his hands as if to keep Bakugo calm.

"Look, we just think one of us will be better suited for taking care of Midoriya," He shrugged, "You're explosive and always on edge around him."

Bakugo felt his hands spark at the statement, standing up straight to look at his classmates.

"You're saying I'm fucking dangerous." He growled, "That's why I shouldn't care for him."

Iido offered a brief nod, having the decency to look apologetic.

"Newsflash, assholes, I can be nice."

"Not very often! It's a whole week, Bakugo, it would be better for both of you!"

"Shut up!" He hissed, "Don't fucking yell, Deku's asleep!"

"Don't tell me to shut up, you never do!"

Iida rested a hand on her shoulder, but Uraraka continued, fueled by emotions.

"You've been cruel to Izuku since we met you! You've never treated him like anything but the dirt beneath your shoe! We care about him! And we make sure he knows! You don't love him like we do!"

Bakugo stared at the brunette, impressed by her power but broken by her words. She was right. Of course she was. He didn't deserve to act like he'd been acting. Soaking up the affection and offering his own. What the fuck was wrong with him? Of course Cheeks should be in his place, even IcyHot or Glasses would be better. Why didn't he just leave Aizawa's office and bring one of them? Why was he being selfish? Why was he so fucked up?

"And for that matter-"

"Stop yelling at Kacchan!"

Everyone froze as little Midoriya stomped in front of them, fists at his sides as he stood firm between the trio and Bakugo.

"You're being mean! Don't be mean to Kacchan! You're gonna hurt his feelings!"

Bakugo flushed at the words, embarrassed that he said something he'd never admit. The three watched in shock as Midoriya made grabby hands at the older boy, gently demanding to be picked up. Once he was up, he messily wiped the oncoming tears barely slipping out of red eyes and hugged Bakugo tightly.

"Lets go, Kacchan."

Clinging to him, Bakugo ran, ignoring the shouts of his name.

Bakugo found himself in bed, Midoriya wrapping his little arms around his face. The child was gently stroking his hair, offering comfort he hadn't offered in ten long years.

"Are you better, Kacchan?"

"Yeah."

"That's good."

Midoriya sat up, electing to mess with the piercings in his ears.

"You got a lot of earrings," He mumbled, "You got

some on your mouth!"

"Is that bad?" Bakugo smiled, watching Midoriya shake his head quickly.

"You cut your hair too."

"Is that bad?"

"No! Kacchan just looks different."

Bakugo sat up, scooping Midoriya up and sitting him in his lap. He tapped his nose lightly, making Midoriya scrunch his face in response.

"You look different too, when you're older."

"I do?! What do I look like?!"

Bakugo pinched his ears and Midoriya gasped, kicking happily.

"I have earrings too?!"

"Yeah, we got 'em pierced together."

"We did?!"

He nodded, smiling at Midoriya's unbridled joy. He pinched his own earlobes before clapping, begging for the story.

It was told, but it was a brief event, nothing to write home about. You couldn't tell that from Midoriya's reaction. His eyes were wide as he hung onto every word out of Bakugo's mouth. He flushed in embarrassment when told he cried from the pain and to tease him Bakugo got a second piercings at that very moment.

"Didn't it hurt?!"

"Nope."

"Kacchan is so cool!"

"I am."

Midoriya giggled, unconsciously pinching his ears before running his pudgy fingers through his hair.

"Did I cut my hair too?"

"Nah, you're growing it out. Could probably braid it if I wanted to."

The boy almost sparkled, jumping up and grabbing Bakugo's face excitedly.

"Braid it when I grow back up! Please!"

Slowly removing the hands from his face, Bakugo kissed his nose and nodded gently.

With all the adrenaline out of his system, Midoriya grew sleepy once again, yawning before curling up on the bed.

"Ah ah ah," Bakugo scolded lightly, making him sit back up, "You gotta brush your teeth and change."

"Kacchaaan," The boy whined loudly, rolling so his face was on the bed, "I don't wanna."

"Well you gotta."

Midoriya offered his biggest puppy dog eyes, but Bakugo didn't budge. He threw the boy ov3er his shoulder, lugging him to the bathroom.

It wasn't terribly late, so Kaminari was getting a snack from the fridge, catching them as Midoriya whined and Bakugo ignored him.

"Why's baby bro crying?!"

"Kacchan's being mean!"

"Wow, I'm shocked." Kaminari grinned, a small spark on his fingers.

"I just want him to brush his damn teeth!" He snarled, glancing at the fistful of tomatoes in Kaminari's mouth, he grabbed the collar of his shirt and dragged him with them, "You too, dumbass!"

"Kacchan!" They whined in unison, but nonetheless, they knew he had the best intentions.

Not even half an hour later, Bakugo was back in bed, cradling Midoriya in his arms. He talked and talked until the boy fell asleep, telling stories of them at his request. He only told the good ones of course, but there were so many awful ones.

He wished he could go back and change them, go make them right. He wished he had a million more stores to tell that wouldn't crush his little spirits.

Pressing a soft kiss to his hair, Bakugo let his thoughts float away, to just be at peace for a bit. Midoriya was here, right now, and he'll be damned if he wastes another moment. Maybe it was selfish, but for fucks sake, he deserved to be every once in awhile.

"Night, Zuzu. I love you."

When Midoriya snuggled closer he knew he felt the same.

One day down, six to go.
