I'm so sorry for not updating! I just realized it's been more than a month!
This takes place the day after!
... ... ... ...
We were in the rain, pausing all the chaos of Illéa and our lives, solely focusing on each other. I was soaked head to toe but didn't mind. Having Maxon in my arms was all I needed. He twirled me around as I stretched my left hand out, feeling the tiny droplets seeping into my skin. I curled back into his chest, listening to the music of the rain. He put a firm hand on my lower back and dipped me. I whipped my head up and splashed water that was collected in my hair.
"What'd you do for?", Maxon asked in a sweet tone. He shook his head in my face so water splashed on to me.
"Oh Maxon, it's so cute that you think you can do that better than me", I declared in a mock sarcastic voice. We broke into a deep stare into one another's eyes. It was as if his chocolate eyes were a safe haven from all that is bad. We kissed, lost in a moment so precious that if the world ended around us, we wouldn't care.
After a few hours, the rain transformed into a light drizzle. We got the towels that Mary had set out for us when she realized that we go out on to the roof a lot. This was our thing, dancing in the rain, tugging our ears. The selection had ended months ago, but I felt like the memory was so close. Spending time with the girls had been amazing, and Queen Amberly was right. These girls would be at the top of my guest lists right after my family. They were my chosen family, the ones that I had grown close to without even knowing.
"Maxon?"
"Yes, my love?"
"Can we invite the selected over? It's been a long time since I've seen-"
"Whatever you want, my love!", he said. It wouldn't be awkward seeing everybody for Maxon or me because, after the selection, they had accepted it and moved on. Now they were all friends to us. We dried up as best as we could and went down the stairs to the 3rd floor of the palace.
Silvia was rushing down the hallway in her red pantsuit and halted right in front of us. It took her a second to look at us and process everything. After what felt like forever, probably just 2 minutes, she spoke up.
"Your Majesties, Lady Marlee is requesting your presence for a private lunch with her husband and her in the Great Room", Silvia said. It was like her mind was wondering, probably as to why we were wet. I looked at Maxon, and we agreed. Our day was completely filled up, from meetings to greetings. But those started after lunch and meeting Marlee and Carter was long overdue.
... ... ...
Fast-forward till they get to the Great Room
We walked into the Great Room as Marlee was wearing a loose fit t-shirt that was tucked into her pants and Carter was standing next to her, with a look that I wasn't able to decipher. I guessed that he had developed it when he was a guard.
"Hi, your Majesties!", Marlee said with unexpected excitedness in her voice. I glared at Marlee, facially explaining to her for the millionth time.
"Come on, Marlee, you know that you don't have to stress about titles, right?"
"Fine. America, Maxon, Carter, and I have been wanting to tell you guys something for a long time." She got up, stumbling a little getting up. Running over to her, I grabbed her hands and helped her up.
"What happened, Marlee? Are you sick? Did something happen to your family? Are you guys leaving the palace? Please don't!" The three of them exchanged glances. Maxon walked forward and grabbed my shoulders.
"Calm down, America", he whispered sweetly.
"Ok. I'm calmed down. Now Marlee, are you sure you're OK? Or do you want to go to the hospi-"
"For heaven's sake America, I'm pregnant!", she exclaimed. I ran up into her arms and embraced her.
"That's amazing guys, congratulations!", Maxon and I chorused back. We hugged both of them and sat down to enjoy lunch.
... ... ... ...
Fast-forward till the evening
Mary rushed into my room with a beautiful dress. It had a sweetheart neckline lined with glitter, and its floral design created an illusion. The dress was made of silk and it went down to my knees, with a tie at my waist. It was perfect for the report. It was clean, yet regal. She helped me get it on and zipped me up.
"Mary, can you alert Maxon for me please so we can walk down together?" Maxon was usually in the meeting room at the time, so it was hard to contact him without interrupting. Mary just smiled and said no. Before I could question her, Maxon walked into my room. He was wearing a blue tux so it matched my dress. Mary must've contacted Maxon before making my dress.
"Milady", he said offering his arm to me.
"I thought you were at the meeting, Maxon"
"Well no, today's important. It's the first report since we introduced the idea of removing the castes to Illéa and we have to make a pit stop before heading to the filming are going to make a pit stop", he explained with a grin creeping up onto his face.
"And don't ask, you don't get to know until we get there." That left me wondering.
... ... ... ...
