Chapter 9
As weeks went by, Azora started going out more, making sure to avoid most villagers, even though they knew of her by now, and healing to the point she could move more easily around, even making small jumps here and there. Hiccup, despite his best efforts, tried time and time again to measure her tail to make an automatic prosthetic for her and after countless tries and finally figuring out the measurements, the time came when it was finally finished and it was time to try it on. When she heard that, Azora all but hid from him, Maaran, and Toothless in order to avoid the change. She didn't care if she never had to fly again but something so foreign to her, was so outlandish and scary she just didn't want to even get near it. Sure she has seen Hiccup ride Toothless with his prosthetic fin on and working but she just couldn't shake the fear that a fully automatic one just would never work out for herself.
Toothless tried to alleviate her fears but she just threw him a disbelieving look at him before bounding off to be alone. Soon, Hiccup had to make another prothetic for Toothless, per recommendation of Maaran, just to prove to Azora that Hiccup's inventions work and she had nothing to fear. Maaran also tried to give his opinion in for Hiccup but even his word did nothing to soothe Azora. It was all on Toothless to show her that it could be done.
As soon as the prothetic was done for Toothless and Hiccup put it on, Toothless took off to search for Azora. In all honestly, both he and Maaran were getting worried about her more and more since a dragon can lose their minds being grounded too long. He spotted her on a cliff that was near the ocean before long and he landed just behind her making her turn her head around to look at him. "Toothless?" She said.
"Azora," he said. "I have come to show what Hiccup can do and to alleviate your fears."
Azora growled in annoyance but turned fully and sat putting her attention on the prothetic tail. "It looks…unique." She said vaguely.
"It works as well." Toothless said proudly. "Do you want me to prove it?"
Azora sighed but nodded, not expecting Toothless to immediately take off and start doing the most impressive maneuvers she had ever seen. Her mouth was slightly open and she was in awe as she watched him but at the same time, as a deep feeling of want and longing came as she kept her eyes on Toothless' form, a heat rushed through her body so quick that she almost missed it.
Toothless landed back down after a few minutes of showing off and as he did, he noticed her scent went from fear to an incredible scent of a female who was in want. He pushed those inner instincts of his down as they rose demanding he claim her because he knew that she just was not ready for anything that deep yet. "So, what did you think?" He asked clearing his throat and mind.
Azora shook her head clearing her thoughts and looked away while saying, "It was very impressive."
Toothless sighed. "Do you want to fly again, Azora?"
Azora's attention snapped back to him in an instant. "What?"
"Do you want to fly again?"
Azora gulped at his intense look and nodded. "Yes." She whispered.
"Then please," Toothless pleaded. "Let Hiccup fix your tail. He can do it."
Azora sighed once more. "Let me think on it more…" she said turning away.
Toothless almost cried out in frustration but shook it off. "Alright." He said. "I'll be in the village if you need me." He then took off.
As he landed back in the village, a Bhimasara Egill came up to him and asked, "Excuse me young Aglovale Helmar, do you know where I can find Maaran?"
Toothless nodded. "He should be near the forge with my human right now overseeing some plans." He said. "May I inquire who you are?"
The Bhimasara Egill nodded and said, "I am Anthia. I am a friend of Maaran and Azora."
Toothless motioned her to follow as he headed to the forge. "I am Toothless. Hiccup and I are caring for Azora here and helping her adapt as best we can to this new way of life."
"Nice to meet you." Anthia said as they came upon the forge.
"Maaran," Toothless called to the elder dragon that sat by Hiccup looking over some plans that, sadly, he was not privileged to see yet. As Maaran turned he was instantly bombarded by Anthia and Toothless, being the smart dragon he was, swiftly decided to leave as her voice started to raise in volume. The last thing he heard was how angry Anthia was being left behind while Azora was hurt then a huge bang.
Toothless did not at all sympathize with the elder Aglovale Helmar whatsoever. As he walked he said a saying hi or two at some of the resident dragons but he then came upon Stormfly and groaned internally as she came over to him. "Hi there, Toothless!" She said.
"Hi Stormfly." He said back as they walked side by side to the feeding areas. She was the only one who he even allowed to speak of Azora in any way due to Hiccup and Astrid being together so often, both of them have seen her more than any other residential dragon or viking apart from himself and Hiccup.
"How's everything going with your dragoness?"
Toothless rolled his eyes. "She isn't my dragoness. She is just a friend who happens to be a female. That is all."
"Not according to my nose. You like her!"
Toothless sighed. Sometimes he wished Stormfly had a weak nose but no, his attraction is still apparent on his scales. "You know that she isn't ready for that Stormfly." He said.
"I know," she said. "Azora said it herself just the other day when she and I had seen each other."
Toothless almost fell over at that statement. "Not awkward at all Stormfly…" he groaned as they reached the fish bowls.
"I know, I know," Stormfly said chortling in her own way as Toothless started to eat. "But there will be a time in the season where you two will start to seek each other out." She looked sympathetic for a moment at him as he continued onto his fifth fish. "You will need to be there for her through that."
Toothless nearly choked on his sixth fish at Stormfly's sentence. "What the?!" He said wide eyed at her but shut up instantly at her look.
"Listen Toothless," she said seriously. "Females do not just have needs during the season. They have pain. Indescribable pain that can last weeks if a male does nothing for her. You have to understand that though the season is fairly a long ways away, she will need you."
"How bad can the pain become?" He whispered.
Stormfly looked at him in sadness before looking away. "It can lead one to death in time."
Toothless gulped.

Azora sighed as she reached Hiccup's home and went inside. She saw her father curled up by the fire and Hiccup was with Toothless at the table reading over a book. She walked over to them and sat down, gaining their attention. "Hiccup," she said. "I will try the prosthetic."
Hiccup smiled. "That's great. First thing tomorrow we will try it out at the cove. That way it's less of a risk if you fall."
Azora's eyes closed on hearing that but she knew that Hiccup was precautions and took a deep breath in. "As long at it works." She said as Hiccup went upstairs to get some rest.
Toothless looked at Azora and nudged her gently in the front leg with his own. "Don't worry Azora." He said as she looked at him. "It will be fine."
"I hope so." She mumbled before heading towards the fireplace and laying next to her father.
Toothless watched her as she slowly drifted of and went upstairs to Hiccup's room, entering it as Hiccup was taking off his prosthetic. "Hey bud," Hiccup said smiling gently. "Whats on your mind?"
"Lots of things." Toothless answered. "Mainly worried about Azora the most and not just about her flight."
Hiccup tilted his head in confusion. "What do you mean bud?"
"Stormfly revealed to me some…disturbing news about females and what will happen during the season."
"Season?" Hiccup laid back on the bed and gestured to Toothless to join him.
"Remember when dragons around here took off and you discovered the island where they safely laid their eggs in search of me when you first made the automatic prosthetic for me?"
"Yeah."
"Well, even though males have a…calling so to say when it comes to mating, females have a more painful and incessant need to mate."
"Painful?!" Hiccup exclaimed.
"Yeah. Stormfly told me that sometimes, if a female cannot get a mate, the pain can drive them to their death."
"And you think Azora…"
"I do not know if she has ever come to her season before but being so young, I highly doubt it because she would still have her mate and children here if she did."
Hiccup almost looked mortified. "Humans are so different than dragons. I don't think even Astrid could help. Sure she gets moody and a little bit in pain during a certain time of month but I don't think human females have that much pain to the point of death bud."
Toothless nodded. "She isn't even remotely ready for anything like that yet either but I don't think she will have much of a choice when time comes."
Hiccup hummed and put his arms under his head as Toothless got comfortable on the bed beside him. "Well, let's just hope we will earn her trust and friendship before her time comes to even think about boyfriends."
Toothless rumbled in agreement before both he and Hiccup were lost to dreams.

In the morning, Azora, Hiccup, Toothless, and Maaran were all at the cove as agreed and Hiccup was showing Azora the black colored prosthetic fin, explaining it to her down to every last detail. "And this will not fall off nor slide around on my tail as I fly?" She asked as she observed the prosthetic with a critical eye.
"Nope. Toothless come here for a sec." Hiccup waited until Toothless was next to Hiccup and sat down. Hiccup went over to his tail and lifted it gently. "This metal wrap is snug to fit the base of the tail to prevent any incidents like that occurring, and since it is made of a special metal that we call Gronkle metal, it is especially durable in any situation you can think of."
Azora looked at her prosthetic and compared it to Toothless'. "It connects to the remaining fin as well to work as a normal fin correct?"
Hiccup nodded. "Thats correct Azora." He smiled. "You are smart!"
Azora looked away, only a tiny bit flattered. "I will try." She said.
Toothless smirked in amusement at Azora's response. "Would you like to try it on?" He asked.
Azora sighed. "I did say I would try…" she mumbled moving her tail to Hiccups awaiting hands hesitatingly. She watched closely and he lowered her tail down gently and slowly put the prosthetic on, making sure that he did not hinder her vision on watching his every move. It felt almost normal to Azora as Hiccup tightened the final straps on the device and got off.
"How's that?" Hiccup asked as Azora lifted her tail to her face and flexed her remaining fin only to be amazed that the prosthetic moved with it accordingly.
She looked at Hiccup and slowly nodded, almost in awe at what he did for her. "Thank you…" she said gently.
"Don't thank me yet," Hiccup said. "Try it out, and tell me how it is!"
Azora nodded then immediately started running and as she flapped her wings, she was amazed that she was in the air flying! She roared in happiness and shot up into the sky disappearing from sight.
Toothless looked at Hiccup before shooting after her and looking around in the sky before spotting her soaring through the cloud with pure joy on her face. "Hey Azora!" He called gaining her attention. "How do you like it?"
"Amazing!" She called back meeting him in the sky and flying next to him. "It's completely amazing to fly again!"
Toothless laughed. "Want to test it out more?"
"Sure!"
"Follow me!" Toothless then zoomed beneath the clouds, Azora closely following behind. He did twists, turns, tumbles, and summersaults in the air for a couple hours with Azora right behind him the whole time. It was becoming noon and the sun was high in the sky making the clouds seemingly glisten and glow with colors.
Azora, as much as she was enjoying herself, was nearing her exhaustion point so she said, "Toothless, lets go eat!"
Toothless nodded and they went below the clouds, gliding just above the water towards Berk. As they glided, Toothless asked, "So, How was your first day back in the sky?"
Azora smiled. "Amazing."
