My songbird necklace! Tears started to well up in my eyes as memories of my dad flashed through my mind. I remember the birthday when my dad gave this to me. He called me aside after we had celebrated, and put it around my neck, saying that I sang just as pretty as a songbird. I got snapped back into the world as Maxon asked me a question.
"Do you like it?", his eyes wide waiting for me to answer.
"Of course I do, Maxon, will you put it around my neck?"
"Sure", he agreed, grabbing the chains of the necklace and wrapping it around the base of my neck. I wiped away my tears as I walked to stand in front of the floor-length mirror in Maxon's room.
"I love it, Maxon, I love it so much", I remarked, hugging and kissing Maxon. Maxon went into his closet to take a shower and I headed to my room to get dressed. Mary had already drawn a bath for me, knowing that I would prefer one over a shower. She didn't scent it, knowing that it wouldn't help the baby. I spent 30 minutes in the bath since my work time was cut shorter due to my pregnancy. Maxon wanted to completely cut them out, but I was barely past my first trimester yet.
After I finished up with my bath, Paige rushed in with a beautiful but simple dress. (If you like the description, here's the link to the dress: . ?url_from=adplaswdress03200303603L. If the link doesn't work, just search up the floral print surplice front dress on US Shein) It had a v-neck that crossed over and fit at my waist. I was loose-fitted because I was starting to show, and it was a light yellow color with a floral design print all over. Mary and Paige helped me get dressed as I realized that the dress really brought out my blue eyes, and made me look carefree yet queenly. They did my makeup with light pink eyeshadow and nude lipstick.
"Do you like it?", Paige asked, with a grin smeared on her face.
"No", uttered, the word painfully stabbing me while I said it. Mary and Paige's faces fell at my comment.
"I absolutely love it!" Their faces lit up, both of them smiling ear to ear.
I headed down to the dining room, hoping to catch Marlee there. To my surprise, she was there, sitting with Carter enjoying fresh fruit and an omelet. Before sitting down next to Marlee, I asked Marjorie for some strawberry tarts. She looked at me puzzled for a second but then I heard the click-clack of her heels as she went down to the kitchens.
"Hey, Marlee, how's Kile doing", I asked plopping down next to her.
"Good", she replied, after she finished chewing her orange bit.
"He's been keeping Carter and me up allllllll night. Get ready for that with your baby. We had to leave him with his nanny so we could come to breakfast", she commented. By then, Marjorie came back with a plate of strawberry tarts that was placed in front of me.
Marlee took one glance at the strawberry tarts and said, "America, you realize you're going to have to eat healthier since you're pregnant. You can't keep on eating strawberry tarts for breakfast."
"I know, I know Marlee. You don't think Maxon tells me that enough? I'm on 3 prenatal vitamins a day, and I'm not allowed to have any kind of meat, salad, caffeine, and the list goes on", I replied in a mock irritated voice. I was truly glad that Maxon cared so much for the baby. He was going to make the best dad ever!
Marlee and I told each other stories about how weird our husbands were during our pregnancies. Carter occasionally but in our conversation defending himself in the situation. She told me about the time where Carter read 3 pregnancy books so nothing wrong happened to the baby. We exchanged memories until the clock struck to 10:00 and I realized that I should be getting to my office.
I walked to my office as a familiar sound rang through my head. Rebels! It had been such a nice week and they decided to attack now? I focused on finding a safe room until I remembered that there was a secret passage that led to the royal safe room through my office. I opened the door and went to through the maze of tunnels in the palace until I reached the safe room. No one was there. Maxon was not there. Where is he?
I paced back and forth across the room as my mind worried about Maxon. Why wasn't he here yet? Why wasn't my husband here? The world spun around me as back dots blurred my vision. My legs felt wobbly while I reached closer and closer to the ground. My frail body hit the stone ground of the safe room.
Maxon- POV
The rebels had attacked my home, the palace, and separated me from my America. God knows if she's safe or not. The guards had pushed me into a small safe room that had probably been unoccupied for the last year. The supplies had collected dust in the corner and there wasn't a gun or anything hidden in the room. Where is America? Where is my unborn baby? Are they ok? All these thoughts passed my mind while I waited for the stupid rebel attack to end.
Yet again, I leave you at a cliffhanger. Is America ok? Is the baby ok? As readers, we know that she's in a safe room, but she fainted. (1,048 words)
