They say behind every overnight sensation are years of hard work. It takes skill, dedication and luck to make it to the big leagues. The biggest of the three of these were luck and as luck would have it Kyoko was now internet famous. Someone had recorded her and Sho's performance and had posted it online. The media were running wild speculation as to who the mystery singer is who stood toe to toe with the great Fuwa Sho on stage. The fact they sang an English
Song made the fans even more wild. They have never seen this side of Sho before so to know he could sing in English just made him more appealing. Tabloids were popping up with headlines like
Fuwa Sho goes Broadway in Spectacular Duet
Fuwa Sho seen singing with Mystery Girl
Fuwa Sho in the arms of a mysterious singer, Secret Romance?
In a high rise office of Akatoki Agency sat President Ryuji Akatoki, across from him was the latest media sensation Fuwa Sho and his manager and Producer, Shoko and Asami. On the table in front of them was a copy of the latest entertainment news showing a still of Sho staring intently at a black haired girl, their two microphones brandished like weapons as they sang their hearts out to each other. Underneath were running guesses as to who the mysterious singer was; speculation ran from foreign singer to newbie idol but none could deny that the girl was talented enough to belong on stage with him.
The president looks across the room, his eyes looking steadily at his top idol "So Fuwa, who is this mysterious singer you've been linked to? And why haven't I've heard of her before? "
"Just a childhood friend," Sho responds lazily on the couch. He didn't understand what the big deal was. He was a singer and of course he would be good at karaoke just why was the news so focused on him and Kyoko. "My mom wanted us to sing for her so we sang, it's no big deal, it happened all the time back home."
"I see." The boss continues, assessing the idol in front of him. "you never told me that. I assumed you could only sing in Japanese. You being fluent in English could be a huge advantage to crossing over international markets."
Sho preens an international debut was just what he needed to take his career on the next level. Take that Kyoko!
The boss continues to look over the media posts, "You've never publicly done a duet with a female singer before. Tell me are you and this girl planning to collaborate? This could be a wonderful opportunity for the both of you.`` Secretly Ryuji was intrigued by the girl. If what Fuwa was saying was true then he had another future money maker to sign, not only was she talented but she brought Fuwa's singing to another level. The boy in the video looked startlingly different from the man sitting across from him.
"Why would I want to collaborate with someone like her!" Sho shouts, the president jerks back in response.
Sho then adds. "I mean, she'd much rather focus on acting. I'm pretty sure she only agreed to sing because Oka-san asked her too. The girl has never said no to her." Sho wonders what all the interest about Kyoko was about. it's Kyoko! She barely even bothered to wear makeup and here the president of his company was asking about her. It made no sense.
"Oh ho, she's an actress is she." The president said, Mentally he was going through all the actresses he knew who matched the girl's description. She was already in showbiz so of course she wanted to be famous. Ryuji knew just how to accomplish that. "Have I seen her in anything?" He asked only to be surprised by the reply.
"Of course you have she played the avenging angel in my prisoner video."
Ryuji mentally reviews the description and then lightning hits him. "You don't mean, Kyoko, do you?" He asked, feeling bewildered. " The girl who played Mio from Dark Moon?" The president questioned surely not. There's no way someone who played such a hateful character could have such a charming voice. No way did Lory Takarada get so lucky as to have that little gem in his pocket.
"Same one. Can I go now?" at this point Sho is beyond disgruntled stupid Kyoko being the center of conversation once again. I knew I shouldn't have invited her.
Meanwhile across town a similar discussion was happening about the latest viral music video. In Lory's office the President of LME was holding court with the newly exposed singer, Mogami Kyoko, and his department heads. Mogami for her part was trying not to squirm at the attention. Sawara, Nakazawa and Matsushima were all discussing the video asking her why she never bothered to showcase this talent in her audition. She was bewildered about the scrutiny and was secretly cursing Sho for the media circus he brought to her life. She knew nothing good would come about spending time with Sho, now here she was getting in trouble with her boss because his mom wanted them to sing was so not fair!
"Care to explain yourself, Mogami-Kun?" The president asks, staring at the girl. Just when he thought she couldn't be more interesting she goes off and shows off a singing talent powerful enough to match Japan's no.1 idol. The fact she sang in perfect English made it imperative he gets the facts right. His unpolished diamond was showing facets previously unknown to him and he needed to take care as to how to best showcase her to the world.
Unable to take the scrutiny anymore, Kyoko falls to the ground in a dogeza apologies streaming from her lips. She knew spending time with him was stupid and know her boss needed to intervene.
"I'm not mad Mogami-kun, I'm simply curious as to what happened?"
"We were just singing Karaoke, Sir. Yayoi-san, Sho's mom that is asked if we could sing her a song before she and Taisho went back to Kyoto. I didn't think it would make headlines Sir. We just did what we always did."
"By always do you mean you've done this before?"
"Hai. Sachou. Shotarou's Obachan is a big fan of Broadway so every year he and I would perform one of her favorite songs for her birthday. We also sang songs for the guests at the inn. I had no idea it would become newsworthy. His family has dozens of videos of us performing like that so there's really no reason for it to be news. He and I just did what we always did back home."
"I see. And do you have any interests in becoming an idol, Mogami-kun?
"Well, Sachou to be honest. I'd much rather focus on acting. Acting is my passion and well singing was always just a means to please other people."
"Ah, but was not the reason you joined the Love Me Section to regain your love for others. Seems to me that singing could very much help you with that. Especially if you continue to perform at that level. You don't have to limit yourself as solely an actress after all.
"If you think so, Sachou." Honestly this girl.
"Do you have any vocal training Mogami-san." Sawara asks, wondering how his wayward star managed to make breaking news doing karaoke of all things. The fact that she did with Japan's no. 1 idol made it even more astonishing.
"Just some vocal and music lessons Sho's Obachan gave us when we were small. Sho was always more into writing his own music so after we nailed the basics we each did our own thing. We occasionally did song requests during Christmas parties and the like." Kyoko really didn't understand the scrutiny. It wasn't like she performed badly did she?
Lory and the three department heads exchange looks. This could seriously change things for their original love me girl. It was just a matter of how to showcase her to best capitalize her new infamy. Should they confirm her identity? Will Mio be the next teen idol?
Finally Lory addresses Kyoko "I see that will be all now, Mogami-kun. Please leave us, we have much to discuss.
"Hai, sacho." Kyoko bows to the men in front of her and as she turns, Lory calls out to her.
" Be mindful of what I've told you Mogami-kun. You never know what fortune might throw your way.
"Hai sacho."
Kyoko leaves. Lory turns his head toward his department heads with a serious look on his face. "Now gentlemen, I'm open to suggestions. What do we do with Love Me #1. Should we let her debut?"
The three heads look at each other and finally Nakazawa speaks up. "It would be tricky Sir, the public already knows her as both Natsu and Mio. The sudden image shift could be problematic.'
"Then there's the fact that Mogami explicitly wants to focus on acting." Sawara adds, "It could just be a fluke."
"I see. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Still it could be quite a feat turning the hateful Mio into Japan's Christine." Quickly the cogs of Lory's head were turning. The Lovemon had a plan it was all a matter of execution.
Author's Note:
Finally got some inspiration for this piece. I'm now fairly certain as to how I want the plot to go, now to figure out the dialogue and character interactions. Anyone else excited by the appearance of Sarah Smith? The new chapters can't come fast enough
