AN: I thought I'd posted this months ago, and marked this fic finished and... clearly I didn't. Big oops. Anyway, this is just a baby epilogue, I hope you like it, and I hope you've enjoyed the ride.
Epilogue
Finishing the school year with his year mates was worth the time spent away from home—not that Tom felt the same. He'd been progressively more and more grumpy as the school year drew to a close, but Harry was finally done.
He'd travelled home on the Hogwarts express (much to Severus' disgust) with his friends, and spent almost the entire trip reminiscing on the happier times they'd shared in the castle.
It was wonderful, but Harry couldn't deny that he was glad to be done with his schooling.
Not that he'd get a break from working. Regardless that he'd completed his NEWT's, the paperwork was still waiting for him daily, and he knew that he'd only get busier now that he didn't have the excuse of school.
But before all that, he and Tom had a vacation to enjoy. Two whole weeks of no obligations, contractual or otherwise, and a whole lot of time to enjoy his husband.
Harry couldn't wait.
…
Tom lay back on the bed, his grip on Harry never faltering as he pulled him down on top, their legs twining together as their lips met in a fierce kiss.
Harry had been intending to take in their immediate surroundings when they'd unpacked, but Tom clearly had other ideas.
Harry found that he wasn't mad.
Tom rolled them until he was covering Harry completely, his hips already shifting until Harry gasped out, breaking their kiss with his pleasure.
"Oh, Merlin, I've missed you," Harry murmured, pressing back up for another kiss.
They didn't see anything of their surroundings for the first three days of their holiday. Hell, Harry didn't even see the full hotel suite for the first two, Tom was so reluctant to allow him out of bed for longer than it took him to go to the bathroom.
…
"Home for one day and you're already leaving me?" Tom asked, as Harry got dressed, sliding into jeans and a t-shirt before he flicked through his robes.
"I have to catch up on what I missed, and I know for a fact that you have at least three meetings today anyway."
Tom wrinkled his nose. "Can we not just go on another holiday, effective immediately?"
Harry chuckled. "Probably not. But we'll both be home later, you know? It's not like either of us is planning any extended trips in the near future, is it?"
Tom crossed the bedroom to wrap his arms around Harry's waist, leaning his chin on Harry's shoulder.
"I should certainly hope you're not planning on any extended trips," he said, pressing a kiss to the edge of Harry's jaw. "And if I have to take any, I'm taking you with me."
Harry chuckled, turning in the embrace. "Deal."
…
Harry watched on as Amelia Bones was sworn in as the new Minister for Magic, and he smiled. Beside him, his husband squeezed his hand.
There was a long road stretching out in front of them, and surprisingly, Harry found that he was looking forward to walking it with Tom.
It wasn't what he'd expected from his life, and when the contract had first been offered, Harry had hated everything about it.
And yet…
He looked up at his husband to find Tom already watching him, a fond look in his eyes, and Harry knew that his life would be a happy one.
No matter the shape of it, he was looking forward to living it.
