When Lexie returned to her quarters she found Delta in sleep mode on her desk, she chuckled quietly as to not wake him, then she got ready for bed. She grabbed her pyjamas from the bed then headed into the bathroom to change. Lexie removed her shirts (Her red shirt and her black under shirt) and placed her hand over the scar on her stomach, despite that the wound that caused it had healed the emotional pain still remained. Lexie tried her hardest to forget the event in her life that subsequently led to the scar, however it was something she could never forget no matter how hard she tried. It occasionally would still hurt, sometimes terrible is if it was happening all over again, but she never told anyone about this, no one because she knew if she did they would question its origin and that was something she didn't want anyone to know about either.
Lexie quickly slipped her silk pyjama top over her head and pulled it down to hide the scar then swapped out her black, heavy duty trousers with soft white cotton ones with tiny pink hearts scattered all over. Then she went back into the main room, after tossing her uniform onto a chair, she climbed into bed and instantly fell asleep, clearly she was more tired than she originally thought since it often took her a while to drift off to sleep however, the peace was short lived. Lexie had only been asleep for a couple of hours when a familiar event began to occur in her mind, she had nightmares pretty much every night about the same few things for most of her life, and it wasn't her mind creating these nightmares, these were memories which her mind forced her to relive every time she closed her eyes.
She woke up quickly but she knew that she hadn't done this for real, this was all part of her recurring nightmares. Lexie tried to force herself to dream of something else, of anything else but as normal she failed. Then a scene began to play out in front of her, there were three people sleeping peacefully in their beds, as a man dressed in black walked up to one of them. In this one slept a ten year old child, a boy, the dark figure then raised its hand to reveal a knife with a long metal blade. Within seconds he brought it down on the boys chest, then the scene changed. This time it showed a man and a woman happily sleeping in their bed when the figure came out from the shadows again. Once again he raised the knife above his head and brought it down on the woman who didn't have any life left to scream, the figure then moved around to the male of the bed and did the same. Lexie was horrified, no matter how many times she saw this it always made her heart beat uncontrollably and her breathing to speed up so much she found it hard to breathe at all.
Thankfully, Lexie was able to force herself awake. She sat bolt upright in her bed, sweat dripping down her face, or was that tears. Lexie didn't know so she assumed it was both. Her breathing was fast and her heart was still racing. She swung her legs over the side of her bed and raised her hands to her face so she could wipe away the tears in her eyes. When she lowered her hands, she glanced over at the music box with sat on her desk, reaching over quietly as to not wake Delta, she picked it up. All she wanted was to listen to its melody but she couldn't do it in here in case it woke up her digital friend. Although Delta knew about her nightmares it was rare for Lexie to wake him after she had suffered one, as she felt terrible for waking him but also she preferred being alone so she could cry without anyone seeing her. She stood up and grabbed her night gown, which was white lace with a purple/magenta cord. After wrapping it tightly around her body she left her room quietly.
Scotty had just finished a long, tiresome, and stressful shift. The Enterprise had only just started out on her new mission but already things had started to break, only small little things such as doors, replicators, or the odd light but they soon added up and they would shortly lead to bigger problems. Scotty blamed it on Star Fleet for not doing the re-fit properly, he had asked to have been abord went the work was being done, to help where needed but Star Fleet had denied his request without giving him a reason. Not only had Scotty been battling to keep things together, he had also spent what felt like half his shift yelling at Keenser. The little Engineer had a dangerous habit of climbing up very high which was bad enough, but even more so down in Engineering, so Scotty was constantly yelling at him to get down. He only yelled at Keenser because he cared and didn't wish to see him get hurt, the two of them had been posted on Delta Vega together for some time so had formed a unique friendship to say the least. He was heading to one of the observation decks to unwind, he had a good idea that the place would be empty so he would have it all to himself. But as the doors opened Scotty froze in the doorway at the sight of the rooms one lonely occupant, but also at the soft melody which filled the room.
Sat next to the window was Lexie, with her knees drawn up to her chest, her arms folded over them and her head resting on her arms. She appeared to be staring at a music box. He could tell that something wasn't right, even though he had only met Lexie a few hours ago, so he began to walk slowly up to her. Lexie hadn't noticed the doors open, nor her Commanding Officer but she suddenly span round to find Scotty standing right beside her, she gasped in fear trying her hardest not to scream in doing so startled the Engineer. "Wo it alright, it's just me lass. I ain't gonna hurt ya." After realising who it was, Lexie felt herself beginning to feel slightly calmer, "Mr Scott?" She questioned, "Aye lass, it's me. Sorry if I scared ya." Lexie turned her head away shyly, "It's alright Sir." Scotty smiled as he sat down next to her. "Everything alright lass?" Lexie didn't turn to face him; she just stared at her music box and watched the two crystal dolphins spin slowly. "Not really Sir, I just had a bad dream… that's all." "There's no need to call me Sir lass, we're not on duty so Scotty is just fine. Must have been some dream to make you come sit in here all alone." Lexie just nodded; she was too shy to say anything back.
Scotty then turned his attention to the music box which sat in front of the Lieutenant's feet. "That's a bonnie little music box you've got there lass, the melody is beautiful." He said softly as he watched the two dolphin spin elegantly, "Thanks, it was a gift from my parents on my fifth birthday." She replied as she stroked one of the figures on the head gently. "Your parents must be so proud of you, the things you have accomplished in your life at such a young age." After Scotty said this he noticed tears swelling in Lexie's eyes, it was clear that what he had said had touched a nerve. "I'm sure they would have been proud, if they were still here." Lexie wept as she wiped the tears from her eyes, Scotty felt awful for making the girl upset, he hated seeing anyone sad. "I'm sorry lass, I didn't mean to make ya cry." He exclaimed quickly; Lexie turned her head so she was facing him. "No, it's alright. It wasn't you, really it wasn't. It was that dam nightmare." Scotty moved closer to her, "Want some company? But of course, if you would prefer to be alone just say and I'll leave ya be." Lexie thought for a moment before answering. "No Please, stay. I don't really want to be alone." Scotty smiled, "If you want me to stay lass then I will." He replied softly.
