"Okay, Look. I understand that you will want to gloat about catching a bad guy but I would like to remind you. Vigilantism is a crime and since you're all still students, AND NOT HUNTRESSES! I am being very lenient this one time on the whole going out and fighting crime thing. But just remember if I catch you telling anyone about this then I'm going to let Neo do whatever she wants to you," Roman had called team RECW to his office just to chew them out as he felt they had not been listening the last time. Who was he kidding he was barely listening he gave that speech half asleep and in bed. But team RECW just looked nonplussed at the whole thing. He wanted to give them detention but to be fair they did catch that witch so it did make things slightly easier on him. And he was certain if he let Neo off her leash then she would eat one of them so there had to be a softer middle ground, "For the next week you will all be Neo's aids."
"I hardly feel this punishment is fair…"
"Well you frosty little boy, I would like to remind you that I could let Neo come up with a more fitting punishment. So let us be clear the next time you get caught doing vigilantism that is what will happen." The way he phrased that made Weiss's hair stand on end as if he was sure they would do it again but it was more a warning for them not to get caught. Sure they hadn't gotten a black spot on their records but they also had to follow around the least stable person at Beacon for a week. Eve seemed not to care that they would likely miss class, Ruby was still thinking about robots and Cinder was somehow standing with her eyes open yet was completely asleep.
"We promise not to get caught doing vigilantism again." Ruby said both making Roman happy and sad that she took his words to heart.
"That's as good as I'm going to get isn't it?"
"Yeah."
"Probably."
"How did I get here?"
"Good enough, you're not excused from classes for the week so go follow Neo and do whatever she says… aside from murder… or nudity… or- you know what let me write a list." Roman scribbled down a list of things that ranged from daylight robbery to crimes against nature which asked the question what does she have planned. Weiss was not excited for this but as they were getting kicked out of his office Cinder had to ask.
"So what's that's our punishment? It can't be that hard to follow someone who's only 4 feet tall," they looked at her in horror as there was the dawning realization that Neo was right behind Cinder, "Great, this is going to be great." Cinder turned around to find no one there and as she celebrated the little victories Neo was nowhere to be found. They all looked between each other as a dawning realization hit them in sequence. Ruby ran back into the Headmaster's office to ask.
"You told her we were coming right?"
"And why would I do that?" Team RECW spread out and began searching the Campus, Weiss searched the classrooms, Eve searched the gyms, Cinder fell asleep on a bench outside, and Ruby searched the gardens. Ruby wasn't really searching, she was just dicking around. And sitting in the nice open garden under the trees was better than searching for a gremlin that doesn't want to be found. The calm serenity of the wind rustling the leaves followed by the tweeting of birds and then the cawing of other larger and angrier looking birds. Ruby never liked birds, they always seemed to follow her with their tiny, tiny eyes plotting. Kind of like how she doesn't like raccoons with their tiny bandit mask and tiny baby human hands, what are they plotting. But right now she was too calm to care about being spied on by birds or how raccoons are freaks of nature. That was until Eve called them telling them that she found Neo.
It may have taken an hour but when they finally tracked down Neo she was teaching her combat class. So as such they all changed into their combat gear before they went to class. This class was really an excuse for her to pit students against each other while taking bets in the stands. Today however was special as they had the new batch of students from Mistral that arrived this week. Neo took special interest in one team as they had the world, or at least kingdom renowned, champion. Neo flicked the random wheel of fighters, that was absolutely under her complete control, before landing on Pyrrha Nikos. Who walked up while doing a little flourish, "It will be an honor to showcase my talents."
"What a pretentious c-" Cinder was cut off as Weiss elbowed her. Cinder was certain that everything that made Pyrrha special was only for show. If it really boiled down to it she could absolutely wipe the floor with her. Then the opponent was spun or more decided by the evil gremlin. Ruby Rose. When Cinder saw it her stomach dropped.
"Would it not be better to witness one champion against the other? Or at least of someone of equal skill?" Ruby preached, trying to get Cinder or Eve to take her place. Neo just looked her dead in the eyes as she spun the wheel again landing back on Ruby. Neo narrowed her eyes as she kept spinning it getting Ruby every time, until the only images on the wheel were of Ruby. Ruby looked to her sister who had a stone face, then to Eve who looked to be struggling with her shirt.
"Want to take my place?"
"I can't today," Eve muttered as she tried to not meet Ruby's eyes, "I don't think I'll be doing anything for the next week…" With that statement Ruby sort of understood but it still didn't make her feel better when she wanted to opt out only for Weiss to whisper to her teammate.
"I think this counts as something she wants us to do." Ruby scowled at her partner before moaning to herself.
"Ugh, Fine I will fight the stupid prize fighter." Ruby said as she got up and climbed into the area. Neo just dissolved as she reappeared in the stands with a betting board with the odds. Pyrrha Vs. Ruby, 50 to 1 with Pyrrha heavily favored to win. This looked like terrible odds so why had Neo even bothered to do this combination. But for some reason people were flocking to it betting on Pyrrha to win. Her entire team took part in the betting as well. Cinder didn't bother betting but she did however walk over to the edge of the rink to talk to Ruby.
"It's okay if you can't win, what's important is to remember to have fun."
"I know it is okay, and I know you want to so you can bet on me winning. I will be fine." Ruby said confidently as she strapped on Rose Blossom before heading out. The problem was Cinder had bothered to look up the matches Pyrrha fought and if the opponent annoyed her or didn't tap out in the first 5 minutes she got brutal. And there was no doubt Ruby had annoyed her. Cinder just watched her sister walk to the center of the ring where she met and tried to shake the hand of Pyrrha, "Neo only does this type of thing to put on a show, so make sure to use your flashiest moves."
"I will try," Pyrrha said as she took Ruby's hand, "but I am sorry about how hard the beating will be. It's really just to prove a point." Ruby was speechless as Neo rang the bell. Pyrrha did prove to be ruthless when instead of releasing Ruby's hand she squeezed it even harder. Ruby didn't panic as she raised her left arm to shoot Pyrrha, Pyrrha just raised her shield to block the bullets as she picked Ruby up and in a swift motion pulled Ruby over her head and slammed her into the ground on the other side of her body.
Immediately Ruby was already at a disadvantage as she had to scramble to dodge the spear Pyrrha drew as she began stabbing it into where Ruby was last. Ruby could tell her opponent was trying to throw her off balance, the solution; get some distance. Ruby paused just in time for Pyrrha to stab her in the chest. It didn't take as Ruby dissolved into petals and split in every direction around Pyrrha. Ruby reformed right behind Pyrrha and began opening fire to the taller girl but Pyrrha, not even turning, threw her shield at Ruby. Ruby dodged as the round object flew passed her. Ruby didn't have time to regain her composure when Pyrrha turned her spear into a sword and delivered a strike directed at Ruby's blocked it by putting her arms together and catching it on the shields of Rose Blossoms, "I'll admit you are pretty good. But that's about it."
"It is said those who cannot do trash talk." Ruby replied as she was close to Pyrrha. But Pyrrha just chuckled as Ruby held her own.
"Then you should have talked trash," Ruby didn't get to reply when Pyrrha's shield bounced off the wall and hit her in the back. The shield knocked the wind out of her and made her scramble again. This time however she didn't have time to breathe and think about it as Pyrrha began slashing at Ruby. They were all hollow slashes but the little damage they did was destroying her aura. Ruby reacted this time instead of bursting into petals to flee she spun around aiming to deliver two horizontal slashes at Pyrrha's chest instead of letting her continue the flurry of blows. Rose Blossom got within an inch of Pyrrha's stomach when they out of nowhere seemed to hit a wall sliding off of it, not even coming into contact with her armor much less her body. Ruby tried to flee but her feet got tangled causing her to trip up and Pyrrha seizing the gap grabbed Ruby's hair.
"Nothing to say? Good, it will teach you to respect your betters." Pyrrha said as she picked Ruby up by the neck before she began crushing her into the ground. It was a violent event of Ruby unable to breathe while being crushed into the ground repeatedly before she stopped moving. Then when the flailing stopped Pyrrha mounted her and began caving in her face. It was relentless as Ruby's face turned to a bloody pulp within two hits. Ruby's aura had shattered long ago at this point, but Pyrrha was relentless as she never quit. Neo for the first time in her career stepped in to stop the fight as Pyrrha raised her arm for another hit only for it to get caught in the loop of Neo's umbrella, "Oh goodness me, I went too far again didn't I?"
Neo just scowled as Pyrrha got off of Ruby. Weiss and Eve rushed the field as their leader needed help, "Her pulse is weak we need to get her to the infirmary now!"
Eve nodded as she picked Ruby up and began running. Pyrrha just went to her corner of the ring with a smug look on her face. Yang met her over there to ask, "Hey Pyrh are you sure this is keeping a low profile?!"
"It would have been more suspicious of me not to beat her within an inch of her life," Pyrrha nonchalantly muttered as she took a drink from her water bottle, "Besides that little brat needed a beating."
"That's not the point-"
"It doesn't matter what point you're trying to convey. I will do what I always have, fight and win." Yang placed a hand on her shoulder as she leaned in and whispered something into her ear. Back over by the betting board Jaune walked over to Cinder who had yet to move since the fight ended.
"Hey, are you okay? Shouldn't you be panicking about Ruby or have at least gone with them?"
"I'm fine, thank you. You should probably sit down and have some popcorn, not in the first two rows though..." Cinder turned to him and had the same look she has whenever Ruby does something stupid, the sickeningly lovely older sister look. Jaune was about to console her when he leaned on the guard rail. Only for it to burn him right away as the rail melted. Neo gave a silent sigh as she looked over the blood stain on the ground before she went back to spinning the wheel. Cinder didn't give her the chance as she hopped over the puddle of railing and whispered to Neo, "This is what you wanted isn't it? Well I'm giving it to you," Cinder walked to Pyrrha as she said in the nicest tone, "That was a wonderful battle even if it was a bit much."
"Well things do get heated in the moment…" Pyrrha said as she remained focused on Yang right next to her, "Is there something that you need?"
"I was sure hoping that you would grace me with a match next, and seeing as you made easy work of the last one you shouldn't be too tired."
"I don't-"
"Oh I understand, one performance reaches the quota for your sponsors. How much did you pay her by the way to take the fall like that?"
"Excuse me!"
"Well Ruby is known around here as a bit of a huckster. I'm sure you offered her enough to cover her 'hospital bills.' But I would love to see you actually trying in a fight, Miss Invisible Girl." Cinder knew exactly how to push Pyrrha's buttons as her ego was the size of a building. It was always easy to push prideful people's buttons and when Pyrrha shrugged off her friend and spoke through her teeth Cinder knew she had her.
"It's Invincible Girl, and it would be my honor to fight another champion."
"Neo it's on!" Cinder shouted back to the shorter girl as she climbed into the stands. Cinder and Pyrrha walked to the center of the area where Cinder offered her left hand to Pyrrha. Pyrrha suspiciously tried to take her hand but Cinder just grabbed her forearm. Cinder pulled her in as she began heating up Pyrrha's gauntlet, "Did you know magnets lose their charge when they're super-heated?"
"How-" Cinder didn't let her finish as the gauntlet melted right off of Pyrrha's wrist. Pyrrha recoiled as Cinder moved in and grabbed her gorget. You could almost see the rage in Cinder's eyes as they were unchanging from that sickeningly sweet smile. Pyrrha however was not a big fan as she struggled to catch her breath through the ever increasing heat around her throat. She pulled her shield from the melted gauntlet intent on doing the same thing she did to Ruby. Cinder didn't move as she reached her arm around her body and caught it. Cinder began to melt it as well when she clicked her lips several times.
"Tsk, tsk tsk. The same trick twice, are you really champion material?"
"Yes I am!" Pyrrha said as she flicked her arms up breaking Cinder's hold on her. Cinder recoiled having her hands full of the bronze armor Pyrrha had covered herself in. Pyrrha tried to turn it on Cinder as she discarded the armor she was holding. Pyrrha transformed her sword into a spear as she tried to use the added range to keep Cinder away. Cinder just ducked under the first lunge of the spear before she planted her hands into the sandy floor. Pyrrha tried to react but like all quick draws the answer to victory is cheating. Cinder turned the floor into glass as she pulled it up and around Pyrrha's extended arm. Locking her into place. Then Cinder spun around and underneath her before doing the same to the other arm. Before Pyrrha even knew it she was trapped.
"I'd say you have a long way to go before being a champion." Cinder said as she walked in front of Pyrrha. Adding insult to injury Cinder placed one finger on Pyrrha's circlet, "Just say when."
Pyrrha panicked as she was restrained as Cinder was melting away at her aura literally. Then Pyrrha realized she still had her spear. She dropped it and using polarity she used it to shatter the glass she was trapped in. It whipped around her as Cinder retreated taking the Circlet with her. Pyrrha cocked her arm back as she lined up a shot directly at Cinder. Only for her arm to stay held back. Pyrrha angrily turned back around to see Neo standing there holding her arm back, "WHY ARE YOU INTERFERING YOU LITTLE-"
Neo slapped her once before she pointed at the scoreboard. While Pyrrha's aura was half full Cinder's was nearly empty already in the red, Cinder just knocked herself on the head before saying, "Well darn I must have used my semblance too much. Oh well it was an entertaining fight," Cinder offered the circlet back as it remained glowing from the heat, "Here don't you want it back? It would be a shame to lose such a fine piece."
Pyrrha through emerald eyes had a gaze of understanding and hatred. Cinder was toying with her the entire time, making sure that she ran out of Aura was all just a part of her little plan. Pyrrha reached for her circlet but when she touched it and when it burned her hand she knew she wasn't getting it back, "It's fine you may keep it. I'll take it back when we fight next."
"Well that would just be wonderful," Cinder joyfully uttered before she turned to Neo to tell her, "I will be going after my team now. Please do not wait up." Then she walked to the locker room as if nothing significant had just happened. Pyrrha bit her tongue as she walked to the other locker room. But she focused on Cinder as she went when she saw a blonde haired boy jump the fence and chase after her. When Pyrrha entered the locker room Yang was there waiting. They just stared at each other for a second, one with the scowl of angry defeat and one with the smug look of I told you so.
"Well, get on with it."
"Oh no, I am going to milk this one for all it's worth." Yang stood there completely smug as Pyrrha marched over and put their foreheads together.
"Do you really think you have any power over me?"
"Oh I know I do. But if you would like a reminder-" Yang leaned into her ear and spoke very softly, "The only reason you're here right now is because you agreed to help. And if that changes, well the funeral they have in your honor will have to be closed casket." Pyrrha's scowl remained firm as she reached her arm around the back of Yang's head. But when she came within an inch of it Yang whispered again, "If you don't fall in line, I'm sure I can convince that Cinder girl to take your place. It would be so easy too, and less of a hassle than dealing with 'the girl who thought she was invincible'. Do you understand?"
Pyrrha remained silent as she felt Yang's fist in her gut. Not a punch but definitely a loaded gun that would tear right through her at this point. They remained silent as she waited for Yang to continue her boisterous speech but it became clear she would not continue until Pyrrha said something, "I… understand."
"Great! Now go clean yourself up, you're covered in burns." Yang let the girl go as she turned and left the locker room. Leaving her there alone, and allowing Pyrrha to vent when she immediately screeched a shout of pure anger as she punched one of the lockers in. Pyrrha was the Invincible Girl how had she been bested so easy by some no name punk from the middle of nowhere. Pyrrha removed her hand from the locker and turned to see her reflection for the first time after the fight. Her neck was 50 shades of scorched, her left forearm had the distinct shape of the gauntlet burned into her skin through her glove, and her head instead of the perfect and pretty crown she always had she now had a burned scar of a tiara right on her forehead marking her as the real loser.
Cinder tried to rush through the locker room but as she passed the bench she ran out of energy and nearly collapsed. Jaune however caught her before she hit the ground. He sort of picked her back up as he sat her down on the bench, "That bad huh."
"Yes it's that bad. What happened out there? What was the point of that?"
"Stop asking so many questions in rapid succession," Cinder held her head, not having recovered from the hangover or the exhaustion from last night.
"I would if you answered any of them," Jaune looked at her with the pleading puppy dog eyes that no one could refuse, he had hung out with Ruby too long. Cinder just grimaced as she wanted to shrug it off only for him to tell her the truth, "I burdened you with my baggage so now it's time for the other way around."
"Fine," Cinder blinked as she turned away, "We didn't want Ruby competing in the tournaments because of people like her." Cinder said motioning back to the arena. Jaune was confused as to what that meant.
"I mean there usually aren't competitors like that-"
"Yes, but Ruby has this weird cocktail of luck that always puts her in the wrong place at the wrong time."
"I don't think that was luck in there…"
"No, I mean since we were little it's like there has been this bad luck charm following her," Jaune just looked confused but Cinder didn't see it, "Whenever Ruby did something small like climb on the monkey bars or play in the jungle gym she would fall and get hurt. I know most children get hurt, but every time something could go wrong for her it would. First snow day, I take Ruby outside to play. We were out there the same amount of time doing the same things, next day Ruby has chicken pox while I'm completely fine. I take her to the new playground in the park, Ruby falls and breaks her arm. I know a paranoid sister only thinking about what went wrong but the odd thing is the bad luck would come and go. One week in the middle of some random summer Ruby pulls a ticket for a family to go on a luxury vacation to Atlas. The entire trip nothing happens to her, she's perfectly fine, not an ounce of bad luck, then we get back and she immediately breaks a toe on the way into the house. This pattern persists as her luck would change for a bit, but then it would always go right back. I mean the first week at Signal she was the most popular student there, the next week she fell on her face and everyone realized that she can't fight and then Bam! No friends. She probably liked that but weeks later in the middle of Aura training, Bang! Ruby catches a stray bullet and has to stay home for a month. So I took it upon myself to teach her how to use a sword. Boom! Shattered her right hand. That's fine she got over it soon enough only next when Tyrian takes to teaching her how to use the pincers POP! In the first week she managed to chop off the tip of his tail. He forgave her sure, and I mean most recently on one of her adventures out to Vale she got caught in the middle of a mugging!"
"Wasn't that how she got to her spot at Beacon?"
"Yeah! But it still doesn't make up for the fact her life has been a constant string of bad luck that follows her wherever she goes." Cinder no longer had a distant look more that of a worried grandmother.
"Are you really saying all the bad luck she's suffered did this to her?" Jaune raised an eyebrow as Cinder pondered the question, "Or are you really just worried that your sister got hurt because of you?"
"Well, maybe I could have taken her place…"
"Really?"
"Okay so tell me what makes you think that smarty pants?"
"I have seven sisters, and whenever one of them got hurt I always kicked myself for not stopping it even when I wasn't there," Jaune had a genuine smile on his face that told Cinder to trust him, "It's okay to feel guilty about these things but you have to understand that bad things will happen and they won't be anyone's fault. What you really have to do is make sure you're there to help them heal after..."
Cinder just sat in silence as he had told her what was ultimately an important truth. He was right; she had to learn to not blame herself for every little one of Ruby's misfortunes. But that wouldn't stop her from digging up the tree stump that Ruby broke her toe on or melting the jungle gym after she fell. Or now when she showed the entire class that Pyrrha wasn't invincible, even if she hadn't won she humiliated the girl. Revenge was always something Cinder was good at even if she had terrible bedside manner. Cinder just brushed off her feelings as she gave Jaune a peck on the cheek and stood back up, "Thank you, Jaune."
"Wha- Uh- Thank y- no- You're welc- and she's gone." Jaune stuttered as Cinder left for the infirmary.
Ruby felt like she was shot… again. Just this time it was in her head and not her shoulder. Stupid memory always remembering the aura training, always remembering the bullet wound. However the splitting headache was definitely not a puncture wound as she felt it primarily in the front of her head. Like someone had tried to cave in her skull… oh right. Ruby raised her hand to her head as she tried to alleviate the pressure for her to sit up. It was difficult as she felt like she was trying to keep her brain from spilling out but when she sat up she immediately knew something was wrong. It was like up was down and left was right, she was going to vomit.
Panicking she couldn't really see through all the bandages when she felt a bucket getting gently placed in her lap. Ruby wasted no time leaning in to violently empty the contents of her stomach into the bucket. It felt like it lasted forever but when her stomach was empty and the bucket was full she stopped. The bucket was removed from her lap as the hands gently pulled her back into the bed. Ruby, too exhausted to fight simply allowed it to happen, "I'd say you look better but I can't really see your face."
"I noticed," Ruby was at least a little glad her sister had bothered to show up for her recovery this time, Cinder usually just got revenge and left her to recover alone. Though that brought the question, "How is the Invincible Girl doing? I assume she is in the next room over."
"Yeah, she somehow got burns all over her body though."
"Oh I do hope they do not scar up."
"They will. I made sure of it, even overused my aura to make sure they would…" Cinder didn't chuckle at that because she sort of understood that was wrong but at the same time… Revenge. Ruby and Cinder just sat there in silence until Ruby asked.
"How long will I be blind?"
"Until they take the bandages off. You have a concussion and they're keeping you overnight to make sure you are fine…"
"Great… So how is the punishment?"
"Roman said Weiss and Eve could cover us until you're better…" Cinder was clearly leaving something out.
"But."
"But we will have to make up the days after you heal," Ruby chuckled knowing that now that Neo was in on it meant it would be much harder, "Well you got today at least. Neo even stopped by to sign the bandages."
"Dear gods! What did she write?"
"Nothing… but she did draw your eyes back on. I think she hopes this is permanent." Cinder said as she looked at the mask with crudely drawn eyes barely in the proper location. It was taking everything she had to not laugh at the googly eyes on her sister's face.
"What time is it?" Ruby asked as Cinder looked over at the clock.
"2:30"
"And I have to stay overnight? This is gonna take forever."
"2:30 in the morning Ruby."
"Ah, wonderful." Ruby leaned back to get some sleep until she felt she was missing something. Patting her chest then the bed she had to ask, "Cinder?"
"Yeah?"
"Where is my cross?"
"That old thing? Well-"
"If you say you threw it out to get me a new better one I will never forgive you."
"Why is it so important to you?"
"It was one of the 4 things in the basket Uncle Tryian brought me home in!" Cinder counted on her fingers but she only got to three she asked.
"Four-"
"Me, my hood, my symbol, and the cross!"
"Ah right… Well I assume it's with your clothes," Ruby seemed satisfied that it wasn't thrown away. But after Cinder told her where it was Ruby began to whimper, "Would you like me to get it?"
"Yes please." Cinder sighed as Ruby pulled the covers up to her mouth as if to hide under them. Cinder got up to leave but as she was nearly at the door she turned back around and planted a little kiss on Ruby's forehead. Cinder left the room and went to the Nurse's station to ask.
"Do you know what happened to her clothes?"
"Who?"
"Ruby Rose, the patient in room 343." Cinder said as she motioned at the room but the nurse didn't care as she continued to stare at her computer.
"If they're not stored in the patient's room, you can claim a patient's belongings in the laundry room." The nurse said not even looking up.
"Thanks I guess."
"You're welcome, sugar." Cinder's eyes shot wide at that comment as she turned back to the nurse who was still playing a game of solitaire on her computer. Cinder decided against getting into it with a nurse that may end up treating her in the future. But she still took note of her name, Lavern would rue the day she ignored Cinder Fall. Or not Cinder would probably forget about it by the time she entered the elevator.
After a long day of tailing the 'World's Most Morally Bankrupt Gremlin' Eve and Weiss were ready to relax and fall asleep. But when they returned to their room they were reminded that they didn't have any beds, "Well at least I have a sleeping bag…"
Weiss muttered as she dug through the closet. Eve was however less than interested when she rubbed her chest feeling how tender it was. Eve immediately ran to the bathroom for what Weiss assumed was her shower after a long day. However it wasn't until after Weiss found the sleeping bags and got out her clothes to change did she get worried that she hadn't so much as heard the shower turn on. Weiss did the only responsible thing and knocked on the door, "Eve how are you doing in there?"
"I'm fine!" Eve snapped back as she was clearly in distress on the other side.
"Okay… well I'll be here if you need anything…" There was a silent pause as Weiss could tell Eve was considering. Nothing says team building like sliding some chocolate under the door and talking about boys, or girls. Whatever Eve was into. What she wasn't prepared for was Eve unlocking the door and pulling her into the bathroom and pinning her against the wall. A Weiss was pinned against the wall Eve had placed one of her hands over Weiss's mouth.
"There is something you can do. But I need you to promise never to tell ANYONE." Eve whispered in a particular hushed scream, Weiss tried to ask what it was but with her mouth covered it was difficult. Eve seemed to understand when she added, "If I tell, you probably won't want to help…"
Weiss, unable to speak, debated doing it versus not doing it in her head for several seconds when she finally nodded. Eve took the sign and removed her hands freeing Weiss saying, "I have a problem I can't really solve on my own…"
"Well whatever it is I'm sure we can figure it out together…" Weiss choked out as Eve put some distance between them. Weiss however was not ready when Eve motioned to her chest and the two small dark circles growing on it, "What the FUCK is that!"
"You know what it is…" Eve murmured very sheepishly.
"I mean I'm guessing and hoping above hope that I'm wrong. But is that what I think it is?"
Eve didn't meet her eyes when she answered, "I am a cow Faunus after all…"
"And you're sure you need help?" Weiss questioned already knowing the answer as a little of the light in her heart was getting ready to kill itself.
"I used to have help... I haven't really had to do it on my own for a while." Weiss just looked the taller girl in the eyes in a desperate plea to let her run. But Weiss had already agreed to it so she had to follow through.
"And how long is a while?" Weiss questioned in a silent scream.
"Since it started…" Eve tried to hide her face but the red tint that was present matched her hair. Weiss couldn't help but feel sorry for the cute girl who clearly has not adjusted to her own body. Weiss was sure there was a parent or a boyfriend that was willing to help her. So now Weiss had to measure up and be that friend.
"Alright, how do we do this?"
Helping Eve was one of the most embarrassing experiences in Weiss's life and it was only made even worse after the fact. As they both walked out of the bathroom trying to not make eye contact. They tried to not look at each other as they changed into their PJ's, Weiss throwing on the nighty and Eve sliding into sweatpants and a tank top that was a size too small in the chest at the moment. But when their eyes finally met they both couldn't help but blush, "Your hands are cold…"
"Well you're nip-"
"How long has that package been there?" Eve cut Weiss off as she motioned to the small tube on the desk. Which came at the horrible realization that if it wasn't there when they went into the bathroom. Weiss in a loud whisper commented.
"Whoever delivered it probably didn't hear any mooing…"
"Weiss if I walked across the hall and asked Jaune he would confirm that he heard mooing from his room. I'm far more concerned why you were moaning!" Eve said in a hushed shout.
"I wasn't moaning! Some of it just splashed into my mouth okay! I was gagging!" Weiss loudly whispered trying to defend herself but her and Eve now shared a secret that would destroy both of them if it ever got out. They both remained silent as several thoughts crossed their minds. It wasn't until Eve asked, "Does this mean we have to get married?"
"Are you pregnant?"
"What? No."
"Then this never happened." Weiss was going to forget this entire episode when she inspected the package. It was a small tube marked, 'For Cinder and Ruby. Love-' Weiss didn't even want to finish reading the tag. That left them with the choice of leaving it or checking on their friends and pretending nothing happened.
It was as simple as finding a route through the infirmary which Cinder came to realize was a full size hospital. Why they needed this at Beacon was beyond her. But after an exhaustive search Cinder ended up in the laundry room.
There was no one there and she was sure that she would have to dig through everything when she was startled by a tall man tapping on the door, "And who are you?"
"Uh, I'm Cinder Fall," Cinder turned around expecting to see a security guard or doctor, not a janitor in a grey jumpsuit. He was a tall man with black hair beginning to grey; he was an imposing figure even if he reeked of booze.
"Never mind I don't care, what can I do for you?" The Janitor asked as he raised an eyebrow at Cinder.
"Well my sister was admitted and she wanted me to come get her stuff." Cinder said having regained her composure.
"Yeah, my sister gets 'injured' all the time too," He chimed in while winking, "And she always sends me to 'get her things'." Cinder just lowered her brow as she had no idea what this guy was talking about. But he just walked over to a shelf and pulled out a box from the bottom of it. He opened it to reveal inside were vacuum sealed packages with patients items in them. He sorted through them before he asked, "What's her name?"
"Ruby Rose." He continued to look through it before he asked again.
"That doesn't help."
"Wha-"
"They don't give me patient names so I make them up," Cinder rolled her eyes at that comment but if she wanted Ruby's stuff then she had to play along.
"Short black hair with red highlights, silver eyes, short-"
"Ah here it is, face caved in girl." He said pulling a vacuum sealed package out. He in one quick motion opened it and dumped it out on one of the dryers before he looked Cinder in the eyes and said, "Thanks now I don't get her stuff."
"Why?" The Janitor walked out grumbling, which Cinder was fine with it because she didn't like those red eyes that seemed like they could see through anything. She still continued as she sorted through Ruby's blood covered clothes until she found the cross. Cinder knowing Ruby would want the rest of it pulled out the hood and piled the rest of her clothes and weapons into it. It was easy and when she tied it off she had a convenient little knapsack.
When Cinder exited the room she immediately slipped on the wet floor. She landed hard on her back. As the Janitor from the end of the hall chuckled before he sarcastically mentioned, "Wet floor look out."
Cinder got back up and scowled at him as she was about to give him a piece of her mind when Weiss and Eve entered from the lobby. As they waited for the elevator Cinder stood up and met them at the door, "What are you guys doing here so late?"
"Well to our knowledge Neo just went to sleep, and when we got back to the dorm we found a package on the dresser for you two." Weiss said as she presented a tube. The elevator opened and they climbed in.
"We decided that since we will likely have to wake up in an hour it would be better to just skip sleep entirely and check up on our teammate." Eve finished as they neared their floor.
"Well you two are practically finishing each other's sentences, what happened while I was gone?" Cinder said nonchalantly before immediately getting more hyper when she asked, "Did you two hook up?"
"NO!" Weiss shouted in distress as she definitely thought about it in her spare time. Eve didn't respond as she looked at the level they were currently on. The elevator had stopped in between floors. Eve just sighed as she pried open the doors to see they were just a few feet shy of the next floor. Eve pried that one open as well allowing them to just barely climb out.
"It's always something isn't it." Cinder moaned as she had to struggle to squeeze through the gap. Weiss easily fit through the gap like a circle through a square block, Eve however had trouble fitting. She was barely able to squeeze through the gap with her assets. They just walked to the room where Ruby was pretending to sleep. Cinder just walked over to her bed leaning on it when Ruby pretended to wake up.
"What took you so long?"
"Elevator troubles." Eve commented as she rubbed her tender chest.
"Are you sure it was not because you two were busy banging?" Ruby motioned at Eve and Weiss as her partner shrieked.
"No of course that isn't what we were doing. Don't be silly Ruby." Weiss tried to bluff her way out of it Ruby was sure they banged but with no proof she remained silent until Cinder placed the cross in Ruby's hand. It was a small simple black necklace with a cross being dangled from one of its sides instead of the top.
"Thank you."
"It's fine, just don't complain if you lose it in the hospital." Cinder said as Ruby let go allowing Cinder to tie it around her neck.
"So what brings you guys here?"
"We just came to visit in our pajamas because you got a package from," Weiss said pausing to read it again not wanting Ruby to know what they were doing earlier and also not wanting to read the name on the tube but with a sigh she finished, "THE HOT MILF YOU GUYS SPONGED OFF OF FOR LIKE 15 YEARS."
"Mom sent us a package! Gimme!" Ruby said shooting up followed by immediately needing the bucket again. Cinder just slid it across her sister's lap as Ruby began emptying her stomach again allowing Cinder to take the package.
"I'm surprised… Haven't heard from her since we arrived"
"Why? Don't you guys call your mom on a weekly basis?" Eve inquired as she was almost certain that she had walked in on them calling her every week.
"Well mom doesn't really get the whole how scrolls work and the postal service must be very different from what she's used to." Cinder clarified.
"Then who is it you're calling?" Weiss had also walked in and was certain even if they weren't talking to their mother then they were talking to an older woman.
"That is our uncle Tyrian." Ruby said as she leaned back on the bed.
"When he's in cell range he calls us constantly for attention. And to check up on us I guess." Weiss was confused since she has heard them call him all sorts of motherly equivalents. But when Cinder popped off one side of the tube she was confused by the seemingly fluffy shape inside. She shook it once and the smaller fluffier tube popped out and landed on the bed. Cinder, Weiss and Eve just stared at it for a second before it shook and popped several times before it burst open to reveal a dog.
"Zwei? How'd you manage that?" Cinder talked to the dog like it was a fully grown person as Weiss's eyes shot big as if she had never been in proximity to a dog before. She immediately picked him up in a big hug as she proclaimed her love for him aloud.
"You're the most beautiful lovable creation on all of Remnant. Yes you are, yes you are!" Zwei was not enjoying it as he was getting choked to death by the white girl. Before he could engage defense mode, Bitey, Ruby raised her arms.
"Come here boy," Zwei wiggled his way out of Weiss's arms down to the bed where he walked over to Ruby and immediately began licking her face, "No stop, I cannot see you. Stop, I am defenseless."
"Serves you right for stealing him." Weiss uttered with plenty of indignation.
"How'd you know we stole him from the pound?" Cinder said as she shook the tube one more time launching a note into her hand, not even pausing she read it aloud, "Dear Non-Biological Progeny."
"Good start." Eve commented as most letters sent to her start with things far worse than that.
"An acquaintance of mine got into some trouble in Vacuo, so I will be there for the foreseeable future dealing with that relentless Hound. And thinking about him reminded me of that pet of yours so I packed him up and sent him to you. Do your best to keep it alive. Love Mom." Cinder read it off as if it were some sweet love letter. Weiss, knowing better, however was getting a clearer and clearer picture of how these two formed.
"Welp, at least she remembered Zwei existed." Ruby said as she finally caught him and held him to her chest.
"Yeah, because otherwise he would have torn apart the sofa." Cinder commented as she walked over and began petting Zwei. Eve picked up the tube to try and figure out how the dog had fit inside of it. Eve looked inside of it and shook it once more, "She also said she packed all his food so we should look out for another packa-"
"AHH!" Eve screamed out when the rest of the tube emptied a pile of dog food onto her. Cinder looked at it for a second as Weiss began to inspect the tube as well. Only for a can opener to fly out as well hitting her in the face.
"Mom always did love those magic tricks," Cinder commented as she took the note and said to Ruby, "She also told us not to worry about her and that we can always come back home to her at any time. And if we can't to at least write to her."
"Yeah, I would be lonely too if I was alone in that silent house after so long of it not being silent." Cinder placed her hand on Ruby's shoulder as her sister had empathy for once in her life.
Okay another one done. Well that was nearly R rated several times. I will be moving into the Dance arc next... Probably.
Questions to answer:
What happened to team STRQ? It's a secret.
What happened to Qrow? He haunts people for the hell of it making them think he is a ghost or a Janitor.
When will Tyrian show up? When I can figure out his personality.
Why did I do that to Eve? I needed a B story and I couldn't think of anything.
