The Enterprise had been following what they hoped was a lead, but they still hadn't come across the ship they were supposably following. Kirk was growing impatient and he wasn't the only one, McCoy was becoming very unsettled which was clear by the fact he was pacing around the bridge. "Dam it Jim! Shouldn't we have caught up to that ship by now?" He cried, Kirk stated that he wasn't too sure, which only made the Doctor even more unsettled. Chekov too was beginning to lose faith in finding the ship, he looked sadly down at the screen to check the ships current course when his station suddenly called out his name. Chekov jumped slightly in surprise, his station had never spoken to him before, but there was something familiar about the voice. It then happened again, but this time Chekov wasn't the only person to hear it. "Chekov, did your computer just talk?" Questioned Sulu, unable to find any words to answer, Chekov just nodded, it was then something appeared on the screen.
"Guys it's me, Delta." The voice called once more, this grabbed the attention of Kirk who quickly lept from his chair and made his way over to the Navigation computer. "Delta, how and why are you inside the Navigation computer?" Kirk asked sternly, he wasn't in the mood for games. "Forgive me Captain, I never intended to upload myself into the ships computer, but I can help you find Lexie and Scotty." Almost instantly the whole command crew was gathered around Chekov's computer. "What? Does Lexie have some sort of tracker?" McCoy joked, "In a way she does, Doctor." Everyone turned to face McCoy who just turned his head away. "In what way are you referring to Delta?" Asked Spock, "Lexie always wears a digital watch which I can track, it was her way of allowing me to find her if needs be." Delta responded. "Wait, how do you know that the two of them are gone?" Asked Sulu. "I checked her location when she didn't return to her quarters after her shift." Kirk smiled, "Delta you have my permission to use the ships computer systems to track that signal, no matter what it takes, just do what you need to. Chekov will assist you if needs be." Delta acknowledged the Captain's order along with Chekov. Finally, Kirk felt like they were getting closer to finding them.
Back on the other ship no one had said anything, not after Shawn had revealed that he was the one who almost drowned Lexie and Scotty. "But why?" Scotty questioned. "I was following my orders. It would have looked like a tragic accident, after all I couldn't pass up the opportunity. The pair of you made it way too easy for me, it was just a shame that you escaped. The boss was a little upset to say the least." Shawn stated, suddenly Scotty lunged for him. He had heard enough and he couldn't hold back his anger anymore. Lexie just watched as the two men fought each other, both of them stood their ground, fists were flying every which way. At one point Shawn pulled out a knife, but Scotty wasn't going to deal with that, after Shawn had swung at him several times with the knife Scotty kicked it out of his hand. Scotty soon gained the upper hand after that and slammed Shawn up against the wall, "I'll make this very clear, I'm mad that you tried to kill me, but I'm madder that you tried to kill Lexie! And you should know never to anger a Scotsman." Scotty yelled before punching him in the face, knocking him out cold. After glancing down at his handy work Scotty made his way back over to Lexie. "Sorry you had to see that lass, but he kinda deserved it." Lexie couldn't have agreed more, she was also surprised at how well Scotty could fight. She then noticed that Scotty had a cut across his hand, blood dripping from it slowly.
"He cut you!" She exclaimed; Scotty hadn't even noticed the slash in his hand until she had said anything and made the mistake of looking at it. Almost instantly he began to feel dizzy, "I shouldn't have looked at it." He said out loud as he quickly turned his head away, Lexie made him sit on the floor as she could see that he looked pale and she didn't want him fainting on her. She gently held Scotty's hand in her own to examine the wound, "It's not too deep, I'll wrap it up for you." Lexie said sweetly as she reached into her pocket and pulled out something very familiar to Scotty. It was the tartan handkerchief that he had gifted her when they first met. "You kept it?" He questioned, "Of course I kept it, I keep it in my pocket no matter where I go. It will make a good temporary bandage." Lexie replied softly as she began to gently wrap it around Scotty's injured hand, he twitched several times as it was slightly painful, whenever that happened Lexie apologised. She could see that he tried his best to avoid looking at his hand again, "Don't like the sight of blood?" She asked. Scotty nodded gently, "Only my own blood, makes me feel giddy." He replied just as Lexie finished. "How does that feel?" Scotty moved his hand around slowly, it still hurt but not as much as before. "Better, thanks lass." Lexie smiled as she sat next to him. "Sorry you got dragged into this Scotty." Lexie felt terrible for the fact that Scotty was forced into this situation, but by the look on his face he didn't seem to mind. "It's alright lass, I'd much rather be here with you, than you go through this on ya own." The two of them exchanged a smile.
At some point Lexie had fallen asleep which didn't surprise Scotty in the slightest, she must be exhausted after all the beatings her uncle had given her, she had her head resting on his lap which was much better than it laying on the cold, hard floor. Scotty himself was feeling sleepy too, however he refused to let himself sleep just in case Kyle came back. With his hands now free, he was able to fight back if needed, even if one of them was cut. Scotty was quietly praying for the Enterprise to find them, he knew full well that they were looking for them and it was only a matter of time until they did, but that didn't cure the fear that he was feeling. Of course he knew Lexie was even more scared than himself, she was face to face with the man who almost killed her after all, but being kidnapped was enough to make anyone afraid. No matter who they are. Scotty was fighting his own body to stay awake, his eyes seemed to get heavier with each passing minute, making them harder to keep open. Scotty was giving himself little pet talks in his head, "You've got to stay awake lad, you've gotta protect Lexie." That's all he kept telling himself, he couldn't bear the thought of waking up to find Lexie gone. It would drive him to insanity knowing he could have prevented it. Just then Scotty could hear footsteps coming towards them, turned out to be Kyle who simply smirked at them.
"Sleeping is she?" That wasn't a question, "Can't say I blame her, not after what you've put her through." Scotty replied sharply, he was hoping that Lexie would stay asleep. "I bet you're wondering why I snatched you as well, aren't you?" Scotty scowled at him, "That thought had crossed my mind." Kyle knelt in front of him. "Well allow me to put your mind at rest." Scotty didn't take his eyes off him, not for a single second. "You see, I brought you a long as a sort of insurance if you like." Kyle said smugly, "What kind of insurance?" "Well to insure that little Lex there behaves herself, she can be a real brat sometimes. Did you know when she left for Star Fleet Academy she left without a word, not even a note." Somehow Kyle had managed to sound even more smug than before, which Scotty wasn't a fan of. He gently removed Lexie's head from his lap and placed it on the floor, thankfully she didn't wake up. Then he rose slowly to his feet, he was sure by this point Kyle had realised that his hands were no longer tied. "Let's get one thing straight, as long as there's a single breath left in my body; I will not let you hurt Lexie any more than you alr..." Scotty didn't get to finish his sentence, Kyle had obviously not taken well to Scotty talking back to him, since he had grabbed him by the front of his shirt and had preceded to throw him basically across the room. "Stand in my way and you'll regret it!" Kyle cried as he slowly walked towards him. Scotty was trying to get his breath back, which had been knocked out of him when he landed, he wouldn't be surprised if he had cracked or even broken a few ribs.
Lexie slowly opened her eyes after hearing some sort of commotion, she soon bolted up right when she saw her uncle looming over Scotty who was lying on his back. As if that wasn't bad enough, what she saw in Kyle's hand made her heart almost stop, he was holding a knife. Not even considering what might happen to herself, Lexie charged at Kyle. She kicked him hard in the back which sent him tumbling across the floor, when he got up he glared at Lexie, who was standing in front of Scotty, who had managed to sit up, her fists up ready to fight back if she had to, even if they were shaking from fear. "Leave. Him. Alone!" Kyle chuckled smugly, "My, when did you get so brave?" Lexie's eyes narrowed. "I will not let you hurt the one person I consider family; I will not sit back and lose my family to you!" Kyle just laughed, "You know what's funny? Your pathetic father said something similar to me, that was before I killed him and the others of course." Lexie's eyes widened slowly; her arms fell limp at her side. "Wh…What?" "Don't you remember what truly happened that frightful night?" Lexie's mind seemed to instantly turn back time, she was no longer standing in the cargo bay but she was standing in her childhood house, watching a scene unfold in front of her. It was similar to the nightmares she had, but something was different. Instead of the murderer's face being covered in shadows Lexie could see it clearly, it was her uncle, there was no denying that. She could hear her father yelling at him as he held a knife up to her mother's throat, who was clearly terrified and mourning the loss of her son who she had just been told was dead.
Suddenly her uncle stabbed her mother and let her body fall lifeless onto the floor, Kyle then turned on her father and said something to him. "Don't worry about little Lexie, I'll take care of her." He then rammed the knife into his chest, stripping the man of his life. This was what truly happened all those years ago, it seemed that Lexie's mind suppress the more horrifying factors for all these years. It was at that moment Lexie found herself back in the cargo bay, instantly she fell to her knees with tears streaming down her face. "I… I remember… You… Killed them? But… But why? They were you're family!" She asked, her voice quivering as she spoke. Kyle slowly moved towards her; Scotty was trying to get his brain to move his legs since he didn't want him anywhere near Lexie. "They deserved it! They took everything from me! Ended my career in Star Fleet, so I did one thing better. By killing them, I would be able to torture you for years, it was a shame when you left. But I knew I would find you again, it was only a matter of time." Lexie didn't say anything, she just sat there. Much to Scotty's surprise Kyle left, he didn't do anything to Lexie, physically anyway, he simply dragged Shawn out of the room. Scotty scrambled to his feet and ran to Lexie's side who immediately buried her head in his chest. Scotty wrapped his arms around her protectively and just let her cry, she had just found out the horrifying truth of her family's murder after all.
It had been almost an hour since Kyle had revealed a horrific truth to Lexie and she had only just stopped crying. Scotty was still holding her tightly, he wanted her to feel safe and to know he was there. Scotty knew more than ever that they had to find a way of contacting the Enterprise, they couldn't wait for the ship to find them but Scotty knew he couldn't do that alone. He placed his hands on Lexie's shoulders and lifted her up from his chest gently, "Lexie listen to me, I know you're upset and I understand, but we need to figure out a way of getting hold of the Enterprise. But I need your help, OK?" Lexie sniffled, but nodded. The two of them then began to scavenger around the cargo bay for anything they could use. Several minutes later they settled back down, with a pile of odd bits lying in front of them. They chose to try and make a short range communicator, hoping that the Enterprise was already close by.
"Right then, I can do most of the building, however when it comes down to the fiddlier stuff you'll have to take over lass, I don't think I can do that part with me hand all cut up." Lexie nodded and they soon set to work. It wasn't long until they had some sort of device, however at first glance it didn't look much like a communicator at all. "It's not the prettiest thing I've ever built." Stated Lexie as Scotty gently picked up their creation in his hand, "Aye lass, but as long as it does its job." Scotty was just about to try and contact the ship when they heard a door open. Thinking on their feet, they quickly hit their device inside a broken part of the wall, before sitting back against it themselves. Lexie rested her head on Scotty's chest with her eyes closed, she could hear his heart racing. Scotty was hoping that whoever had opened the door wouldn't come in, he wasn't scared that they would find their make shift communicator, he was more scared as to what they would do to Lexie and him. Thankfully, the door soon clanged shut once more and the two of them sighed in relief. Before anyone else could interrupt them they lept up and retrieved the device from the wall. To hopefully contact the ship.
With Delta guiding the way, the Enterprise was close to catching up to the ship which they believe was where their two officers were being held. "We should have the ship in range any moment now Captain." Chekov stated, Kirk nodded. "Captain, may I suggest that we formulate a logical plan before we engage the ship, since we are unaware of the reasons for their actions." Spock said calmly, "Indeed Spock, I don't want to make this situation any worse than it already is." Kirk replied. He would typically not think these type of things through, however he didn't wish to get his friends hurt. Suddenly Uhura span round in her chair, "Captain, I'm picking up an audio transmission." Hope filled the bridge as Kirk asked her to play it through the speakers, he decided to address them first.
"This is Captain James. T. Kirk of the Star Ship Enterprise." He announced, there was a second long pause before someone replied. "Jim!" The voice cried out; relief drifted over the entire bridge at the sound of the Scotsman's voice. "Scotty! Are you alright? Is Lexie with you?" Kirk yelled happily, "Aye Captain, we're both OK but we'll be much better once we're off this bloody ship and back aboard the Enterprise." Scotty replied, Kirk turned to face Spock. "Get down to the transporter room, lock on to them using this signal as a guide." Spock nodded and hurried off. "Captain, please hurry." It was Lexie who had spoken this time and Kirk could tell that she was a little more than just a bit scared, something had definitely happened. "We'll be as quick as we can Lexie." Just then a deafening scream came from the speakers, "Lexie?!" Yelled Kirk, but there wasn't a reply. "Scotty?!" But still nothing. Kirk felt the blood drain away from his face, he was trying his best not to think of what may have just happened.
It seemed like Scotty's and Lexie's luck had ran out just in time for them to make contact with the Enterprise, since Kyle had come back into the room only to discover their plan. He had kicked Scotty in the ribs so hard he rolled across the floor, then turned his attention on Lexie who simply backed up against the wall. "You brat! Why couldn't you just behave! I should have killed you all those years ago when I had the chance!" Kyle cried as he pulled out a knife from his pocket, Lexie just froze. She had a flash back to when he stabbed her the first time, only this time she may not make it out alive. As he brought the knife down Lexie shut her eyes tightly, she didn't want to watch. But after a few seconds she didn't feel anything, not even a scratch, so slowly opened her eyes and was shocked at what she saw. Scotty was stood in front of her, his arm outstretched as his hand was holding Kyle's wrist and in doing so had stopped the knife in its tracks. "Don't you dare lay a finger on her!" Scotty pushed Kyle away, who simply came back swinging. Knowing instantly that he was about to get into yet another fist fight Scotty shoved Lexie to safety, just in time for when Kyle wound up with for a punch.
Scotty thankfully dodged it and the fight began, all Lexie could do was watch on in horror as the two men fought. It wasn't long however until Scotty was starting to lag behind, Kyle was better trained for this type of thing while Scotty was simply an Engineer, who very rarely had to do any form of combat. With one swift punch to the head Scotty was sent plummeting to the floor, Lexie cried out his name and pleaded with him to get up, but he didn't move. With a sinister smile Kyle crouched over Scotty with his knife, "You should never have got involved." As he raised the knife above his head he suddenly screamed in pain, Scotty glanced up to see there was a knife sticking out of Kyle's shoulder, Scotty was also shocked as to who had done it. It was Lexie, who simply kicked her uncle over and helped her friend to his feet. Kyle managed to pull the knife out from his shoulder, much quicker than Lexie had expected. He was now holding two knives, which wasn't what she had planned. "You'll pay for that!" Scotty stepped in front of Lexie to shield her from the mad man who stood before them, as Kyle charged at them again Scotty turned and wrapped his arms around Lexie, holding her tightly, Lexie had closed her eyes, she didn't want to witness anything, but before Kyle could land his anger fill blow the two of them vanished before his eyes.
