Uber stuck
A guest asked for a oneshot of Snow asking Emma to hold her ring for her. Emma puts it on so she won't lose it but when she goes to give it back to her mom it's stuck and they both freak out trying to get it off.
Snow grimaced at the state of her hands. She had decided the garden at Emma's new home was simply too beautiful to not be done up properly. Emma didn't seem to mind, but Snow had decided they were sorting it. Now that they were finished for one day, Snow was more than ready to get the dirt off her hands.
"Here," Snow said, twisting off her wedding ring and handing it to Emma. "I'm going to go wash my hands. Can you hold onto this for me so I can really give them a good scrubbing?" Emma nodded, wiping the sweat off her brow.
"Yeah sure." She took the ring off her mom. "I'm just going to lug the soil into the corner." Emma said. Snow nodded, going back inside to wash her hands. Emma then noticed she was wearing her jeggings and such didn't have any pockets. So to keep her mom's ring safe she wedged it onto her own finger.
Snow came out a few minutes later, hands sparkling clean.
"Your turn." She said to her daughter. Emma nodded. She then went to take off her mom's ring…but her face paled as she gave it another tug. It wasn't budging.
"What's wrong?" Snow asked her. Emma grimaced up at her mom.
"I put your ring on my finger to keep it safe because I didn't have any pockets. It's not coming off."
"What?!" Snow squeaked. She pounced on Emma, grabbing hold off her ring. She tried to yank it off.
"Hey!" Emma complained, pulling her hand back and rubbing the finger. "Pulling my finger out the socket won't get your ring back!"
"Sorry, but that ring means a lot to me. Can't you just magic it off? I can't bear the thought of that having to be cut off. It belonged to your dad's mom." Emma focused hard, but the ring wouldn't budge. She shook her head.
"Come on. Maybe Regina can help." She said. "You're driving." Snow nodded, willing to try anything.
Around twenty minutes later, Snow and Emma were with Regina after explaining the situation to her.
"Well there's no use you coming. I can't magic it off whilst you're here Snow."
"Why not?!" Snow asked desperately. Regina looked at them both like they were stupid.
"Well isn't it obvious?" She asked. She sighed at their obvious lack of ability to see the obvious. "I can't do anything whilst Snow's in the room. Haven't you noticed that Emma seems to be able to dodge dark magic a lot more effectively whilst you or Charming are around?
"What are you getting at here Regina?" Emma asked, confused. Regina rolled her eyes. They were both infuriatingly slow.
"I cannot believe I'm actually about to have to use a Harry Potter reference to explain real magic to you." She grumbled. "JK Rowling seemed to be onto some of real magic principles when she wrote the first book. Do you remember that Quirrell couldn't touch Harry because of his mother's act of true love?" Emma nodded, Snow still seemed lost. She had never read any of the Harry Potter books. "Well, that's not exactly how it works. It doesn't just disappear when you become an adult. It stays throughout life. The only caveat is that one of the ones providing true love is in close proximity. Since Snow's in the room, I can't get the ring off. It too is effected by you and Charming's true love as a symbol of it." Regina explained. Snow seemed amazed.
"Wait, so Charming and I are like some kind of magical shield for Emma?" Snow asked.
"It's more complicated than that. More like a way of increasing the odds of safety." Regina said. "Anyway, if you go outside the house you should he far enough away for me to get this off without Miss Swan losing a finger…at least permanently."
"What?!" Both Emma and Snow screamed.
"I'm just kidding." Regina sighed. They really were slow.
