AN: Welcome to another BNH, but this time, it's by me. you'll probably have noticed the Avatar in the room. I wanted to see what this universe would be live with an avatar. I plan on giving making sure this OC remains as down to earth as possible. If you notice thag sometimes she seems to not have a set personality or is bland in her personality. I promise, most of that is intentional. The character development will be real with this OC.Also, there will be a few AU things, that should hopefully blend into this story nicely. Anyways, thanks for reading! Let me know what you think with a review.
Kayda sighed as she pushed open the glass door of the building to exit, adjusting her backpack to sit better on her shoulders.
"Are we seeing you same time next week, Kayda?" The receptionist called out before the young girl could make her exit.
Kayda turned and tried to smile at the woman, though it felt more like a grimace on her face. "Yes ma'am. I'll be here next week." She said and then exited the building.
She paused for a second to let the April breeze it her face, taking time to smell the blooming cherry blossoms on the wind. A petal floated towards Kayda, who snatched it out of the air, lightly rubbing the soft petal between her slender fingers. After another, calming breath, she released the blossom, and started walking down the somewhat busy streets of Musutafu.
Today's therapy session was the same as it has been, every week for the last two years. It didnt go anywhere, with Dr Tanaka only mildly grazing subjects (or avoiding some all together) before he would start to look worried about what she was feeling, and would remind Kayda that she needed to have control over herself.
The girl kicked a rock out of her path scornfully as she kept walking, scowling at the ground. She really wasnt wanting to go back to the most likely empty apartment. Though, it would be worse if it wasnt empty. Then she would be questioned about her progress in therapy. The young woman clenched the straps of her back pack a little tighter brows furrowing as she did so. She didn't know is she could handle the shame of lying again.
She had been going to this therapist for the past two years. Ever since she finally convinced her foster father to allow her to go to a public school, instead of the homeschooling she had received for the previous 3 years. She wanted to do her best to prove to him that she could be stronger than her mental illnesses as well as be able to socialize with children her age, not just the high schoolers that her foster father taught.
This therapist though, he never really seemed comfortable about talking about the voices that plagued Kayda's dreams; and he most certainly avoided all subjects regarding what happened to Kayda before she was rescued. Kayda had been trying to figure out a way to tell her foster father that this guy was a waste of time, but the uncertainty of being pulled from public school and back into the isolation of homeschooling made her hesitant.
She was doing everything she could to prove that she could be a competent hero, and trying to convince her foster father that she could attend UA next year. Kayda had always wanted to walk in the footsteps of those who saved her, which meant going to UA. She wanted... no, NEEDED to be a hero so she could help others like her.
A loud explosion ripped through Kayda's thoughts. Smoke seemed to be coming from the shopping district, which was about 5 blocks from where she had been walking.
"Villains" Kayda breathed, her green eyes widening and a small grin appearing on her face any chance she had to watch heroes fight against villains made her almost giddy as she was eager to see their fighting styles.
She started to sprint to where the explosions came from. Hoping to see some heroes in action. A few more explosions happened as the sound of police and fire sirens got louder and louder.
Hearing a creaking noise above her, Kayda looked up to see Kamui woods slinging from building to building towards the smoke. Grinning even more now, she picked up her pace. She kept running followed by other civilians who wanted to see the commotion, when she turned the final corner though, a chill ran through her body, and her grin left her face.
This wasn't the typical low life thug.
Kayda's eyes landed to the center of the alleyway, where a slimy, dark green mass was laughing cruelly. The eerie glow that the surrounding fire gave off was even more unsettling. Kayda couldn't make out exactly what the villain was saying due to the sound of her heartbeat taking over her ears. What worried her the most, was the sight of ash blonde hair sticking out through the green sludge, and the heroes seemingly unable to get closer to them.
Kayda tried to focus more on what was being said by the heroes around, but she was only getting bits and pieces of what they were saying. There were a few more explosions as the person inside the sludge monster was trying to fight. There had to be someone who would be able to get the person out of the villain. The heroes couldn't just stand there and let themdie. The sludge had to be suffocating them. The girl didnt realize her muscles clenching tighter with each thought. As the boy stuck inside was able to get a part of his face out the concrete around Kayda was slightly crumbling.
She had to do something to help, but with all of the chaos, Kayda couldn't think clearly to come up with a plan. The heroes around couldn't do anything or they would risk hurting the person stuck in the sludge. After an agonizing second of struggling, the boy stuck inside opened his eyes. As soon as those eyes opened, pleading for help, the person standing next to Kayda sprinted into the fray.
Almost as if she was being pulled with the person, she couldnt control the movement of her own body. Kayda's feet started sprinting as well, following close behind this stranger. She tried focusing on the villain and his actions, and making sure her and this person made it safely over towards the monster.
"Not this brat again?!" The villain shouted, his voice coming out gurgling.
As they got closer, the heroes started yelling at them, though Kayda had no time to even process their shouts.
The two continued to race through the fire, the boy next to her starting to squeal with anxiety. Kayda's eyes widened as she saw a massive hand of sludge heading right for her partner. Quickly, Kayda took a horse stance, and with two strong fists she pulled up a wall of earth, no taller than five feet and pretty weak. But it was enough to make the sludge splatter, and allow them to keep moving afterwards.
The boy ahead of her was muttering to himself and suddenly whipped his yellow school bag off of his back and threw it right into the eye of the villain. The green blob yelled in pain and the blonde haired boy was once again visible.
He gasped for breath and the boy next next to her jumped towards the villain.
"KACHAN!"
By now the boy Kayda followed was clawing at the sludge. As she also arrived, Kayda plunged her arms into the thick substance, trying to grab the boy's shoulders.
"WHY ARE YOU HERE?!" The blonde shouted, a mix between being afraid and being mad. "AND WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?!" He turned his wide red eyes to Kayda.
"I DONT KNOW! MY LEGS, THEY JUST STARTED MOVING." The green haired boy responded, still desperately clawing at the sludge.
Kayda ignored his question, grunting with exertion and she moved through the thick wall of slime. She felt the boy's shoulders and gripped the fabric on them, straining to pull themselves out. She could tell by this point the boy was loosing his energy after having been fighting against being taken over for so long.
The villain tightened around the red eyed boy, feeling Kayda trying to pull him out. As the sludge closed in around the boy again, it simultaneously pulled Kayda in further as well. She was trapped up to her shoulders in the thick substance, though she didnt release her grip that she had around this 'Kachan'.
"I couldn't just stand back and watch you die." The green haired boy was sobbing with a smile, still clawing desperately against the slime.
"Get the hell off me!" The ash blonde boy screamed to the monster as he strained once more to pull himself out, Kayda still pulling against him.
"Just a little bit longer boy," the villain gurgled, "And I'm done playing with you!"
Kayda realized that the villain was going to kill the boy she had run here with and was now desperately trying to use her quirk as she felt the villain prepare to attack. She released one of her hands off Kachan, agonizingly straining against the wall of sludge that incased her up to her neck now. She was nearly shouting as adrenaline coursed through her, enabling her to free the tips of her fingers from the villain.
Though she couldn't turn to look behind her, she willed whatever earth there was around her and prayed that it was enough. She was able to see a giant green hand about to come down on her partner, Kayda strained every muscle she could and brought up the dome she had been straining for, around the boy.
As the villain's hand came down Kayda kept her muscles clenched as she was willing the shield she had built to stay standing against the explosive impact. She had to clench her eyes and turn her face away from the heat as it blasted against her face. She felt the tips of her fingers start to burn as they remained out-stretched.
"I really am pathetic." Kayda heard a deep voice say.
She opened her eyes and turned as much as she could to the sound of the familiar voice. She let the dome she had built fall with an exhausted sigh, as she saw the number one hero holding back the monster.
"I told you all of the traits to make a great champion but, I see now I wasnt living up to my own ideals!" He grunted as he broke free of the slime that clung to his arm.
Suddenly she felt him shove his arm into the slime and grab her hand that was still clinging to the boy's shoulder, as well as the boy.
"Pro's are always risking their lives, that's the true test of a hero!" He shouted as he wound up his free fist.
"DAMN YOU ALL MIGHT!" The villain gurgled, preparing to crush his foe.
"DETROIT, SMASH!" Was the last thing aside from violent wind that Kayda heard before feeling the slime around her, vanish. She felt herself being whipped around in the wind. Arm aching against the powerful grip of the hero.
Kayda felt herself be dropped onto the ground, before faintly registering rain hitting her face. All of the adrenaline and energy she had was gone in an instant. Her body ached from the strain from trying to escape the monster. Her head pounded as she tried to reign in the voices in her head. She stared up at the grey sky above her before seeing her vision fading around the edges. But she willingly accepted the darkness that followed. If nothing else, she knew she was safe because All Might was there.
"Stupid girl, we could have beaten that guy easily." A strong female voice scolded Kayda coming from the inky darkness if her mind.
"You didnt have to go out there and put us all in danger." A timid man chirped, seeming to be in an alarmed state.
"I thought she was brave, you guys need to stop picking on her so much." Came a motherly voice.
"Can you all just shut up?" Kayda thought with an exhausted sigh. She willed herself to regain consciousness. "I don't want to deal with you right now."
All of the voices protested as Kayda woke herself, slamming the mental wall she had built, back into place so the voices wouldnt progress the pounding headache she could feel coming on.
She opened her eyes slowly, letting out a groan as her body registered the pain that she was in. Taking a few moments, Kayda realized she was next to the boy that she had run with, though they had been moved over to the paramedics. The other boy seemed to have already been taken care of by the medics and was now being fawned over by several heroes.
Other heroes were bringing black bags over to the police on site, Kayda could only assume the bags held what they could find of the villain. She slowly registered hearing he clicks of many cameras and reporters asking questions, she didnt have to turn her head to know that they were talking to All Might. Kayda finally decided to sit up, biting her bottom lip as her muscles burned.
"Oh! You're awake!" Came a timid voice next to her.
Kayda looked over to see the green haired boy she had run into danger with.
"I'm Izuku Midorya," he started, looking away from the girl, "I-um..." he stuttered, wringing his hands together anxiously, "Thanks for running in with me back there and shielding me. I apologize for any trouble I caused." He bowed his head in apology.
Kayda's green eyes widened at the gesture and she brought both of her hands up in a placating manner.
"Ah, there's no need for that! I probably would do the same thing over again in a heartbeat, even if it was incredibly stupid of both of us." Kayda grinned sheepishly before extending her burnt hand over to him. "I'm Kayda."
Before he could meet her hand, the two teenagers heard footsteps walking towards them. The two briefly glanced up before bowing their heads in shame as Kamui Woods and Death Arms made their way over, both looking furious.
"You morons!" Kamui started, "Do you have a death wish?"
"There was absolutely no reason for either of you to put yourselves in danger like that!" Death Arms all but growled at them.
Kayda wrung her hands tight against her dirty, white school uniform top, as her head still hung down. The heroes continued to lecture Izuku and Kayda until another set of footsteps made their way over. The two teenagers looked up to see All Might standing over them, his smiling face giving away nothing.
"I'd like to have a word with Young Kayda for a moment if that is alright." He said towards the other two heroes as well as Izuku.
Everyone but Kayda paused, looking curious as to why the number one hero wanted to speak with a trouble making girl. Though they all respected his wishes and left All Might standing over Kayda, who wasnt making eye contact with him.
"I'm going to assume you already got a good lecture from them." All Might started, his smile slipping from his face. "I'll have to call him."
Kayda flinched, tears starting to well up in her eyes as she imagined the disappointment that would be on her foster father's face when he found out what she did.
All Might kept looking down at the girl, before crouching down and getting on her level. She met his gaze as he did so, refusing to let the tears fall from her eyes.
"Between you and me," All Might grinned, "I would have done the same thing when I was your age."
Kayda let out a watery laugh as the hero tried to comfort her. She quickly wiped away the tears that threatened to spill.
Kayda smiled weakly up at the hero, "Thank you for saving us All Might."
All Might put his giant hand on her head, ruffling Kayda's messy sliver hair, " You should probably start heading home. I'll call him in a minute or two."
"There's no need." A gruff, tired voice came from behind the hero. "The police chief called me about thirty minutes ago."
All Might stood, turning to face the man as Kayda once again bowed her head in shame.
"Eraserhead," All Might greeted, "I was just about to send young Kayda home."
Kayda felt the newly arrived pro hero's goggled eyes staring at the top of her bowed head. She heard the crunch of the loose gravel as he walked closer to her, assessing her condition.
"She's had quite a troubling event happen-" All Might started saying, trying to stick up for the young girl.
"This was pretty reckless and stupid of you, Kayda." Eraserhead said, ignoring his fellow hero and crouching down in front of said girl.
"I know." The girl said, eyes burning once again as she lowered her head further, trying to avoid looking into his disappointed face..
"Can you walk?"
"Yes. The paramedics said I should only have bruising and burns." She replied weakly, pushing herself off the ground to stand.
She held back the groans she wanted to make, as her muscles protested against moving. Eraserhead sighed, taking note of her disheveled state. Her normally long white hair was tangled and sooty due to the explosions and the slime. Her school uniform was also pretty beat up, but didnt seem to have any tears in it, which meant she probably didnt have any cuts or scrapes. The tips of her fingers were blistered and raw from the explosion that was aimed at the green haired boy. She held herself up, though Eraserhead could see a slight shake in her knees from fatigue.
He gave a quick nod after determining she didnt sustain any major injuries. "Let's head back." He said, his tone saying 'we will talk more about this later', and he turned to start walking.
Kayda nodded and started to follow after him.
"Thanks again All Might." The girl mumbled as she passed the hero, who was now frowing slightly.
"Hey wait!" A gruff voice called out. Though Kayda wasnt paying attention since there were many voices talking over one another. She kept walking with Eraserhead, who had his hands in his pockets as he walked.
"I think that boy is calling for you." The hero looked down to Kayda.
"HEY! Crazy girl!" The gruff voice shouted once more.
Kayda flinched at the name as she turned to look at who was hollering. She stopped when she saw the boy who was trapped in the sludge making his way towards her. He stood a few inches taller than Kayda, his blonde hair looking as explosive as his quirk. His black school uniform was covered in soot and wrinkled from the ordeal.
She stopped walking so the boy could catch up, Eraserhead pausing not too far ahead as well.
"I didn't need your help." Were the first words that fell out of his mouth as he got close enough to Kayda. His red eyes were narrowed and mouth was pulled into a scowl as he said this.
She felt her eye twitch and a scowl of her own graced her face.
"I'm strong enough without some princess running in thinking she needs to play hero." He continued, poking her shoulder with his finger.
A slight cough could be heard from Eraserhead. Either covering a laugh or a small warning to Kayda to remain civil.
"What's your name?" Kayda asked, losing the frown and keeping her her face calm and passive.
Surprised for a second, the boy's eyes widened, "Katsuki Bakugo." He said gruffly.
"Great. It will be nice to know your name when I have to keep saving your ass when I'm a pro hero." Kayda said, smirking before starting to turn.
"What did you say?!" He hollered. "What the hell is your name. I want to know the name of the princess who thinks she could go pro, so I can take you down." Bakugo fumed.
"My name is Kayda Aizawa, do you want me to autograph something for you now, or when I kick your ass later?" She was smiling wider, egging the hot headed boy on.
Bakugo's hands started crackling as Kayda started to sink lower into a horse stance (though her legs were shaking nearly uncontrollably). If this Bakugo kid was going to be a jack ass after what she went through to try to help, she was going to show him what she could really do.
"Kayda." Eraserhead said firmly, bringing the girl back to reality. Back to where she was in major trouble for running head first to a villain without a plan.
The girl stood up from her stance and turned away from a seething Bakugo.
"You're welcome." Was all she said before she followed her foster father back home.
She didnt see Bakugo scowl and watch her back until she turned the corner out of the alley.
