Chapter Four

We get to my house within fifteen minutes and when I am in the house, there is a lot of noise.

Elise is singing and dancing with Elsa and Anna and doesn't know the problems that are around her. Thank God for that.

"What's going on?" I look around the room, and Stephen comes and sits me down.

"Your Dad is upstairs in his room. He seemed tired and asked to take a nap. Doctor Snow is with him, as is Angela."

"Does it look bad?" I ask.

"We don't know. We will have to wait and see. Let's go see Marcus. Don't say anything to Elise, she is distracted and we want to keep it that way. Mrs. Munios will watch her."

I look at my smiling, dancing daughter and as much as I want to hug her, I know her watching what may happen might be worse for her than anything else.

"Have Mrs. Munios call me if she needs me, please." Stephen nods and goes to talk to Mrs. Munios, who seems to agree.

I go upstairs to where my father is. Two of the guards are outside the door watching everything. They each nod and I enter.

Kate is sitting next to my father and Alistair is standing behind her, bowed in a silent prayer.

Kate looked as though she is crying. It broke my heart to see that. I never like to see her cry.

Not really. I enjoy it very much.

I go to stand next to her and put my hand on her shoulder.

I can tell my father's breath is heavy. I am shocked that neither Doctor Snow nor Nurse Practitioner Angela are here. This makes me mad.

Alistair put his hand on my shoulder and shakes his head no. He takes his phone out and types.

Angela is changing. She was puked on. Doctor Snow is getting more supplies. He should be back soon.

Okay, I can't get mad at that.

Who puked on Angela?

Your father. He got Kate and Stephen as well.

I looked at Kate and just realized she also has new clothes on and freshly washed hair. Her look is more casual, black slipper boots, a pair of black leggings and an oversized sweatshirt saying Probably late for something on it. Which was odd since I did not realize she had that.

Stephen came in and was wearing a sweatshirt that says Doesn't play well with others with a pair of jeans that I didn't realize he was wearing until now.

Well, at least he is right. He never has played well with others, not that he should as a former boss.

Kate notices me and gets up. "I am sorry, I did not notice you! Please let me get you something to drink and eat. What kind of wife am I not to take care of you? Doctor Snow should be here soon."

I give Kate a kiss and she goes and gets me a drink.

Coffee with my favorite creamer and sugar. It tasted amazing.

"Thank you, Darlin'." I tell her with a smile.

She kisses my cheek and goes back to sitting next to my father.

I put my coffee cup down and get a second chair for myself to sit next to Kate. I hold her hand and we sit in silence.

Doctor Snow and Angela return and start working on him again.

"He is resting, which is good," Angela says. "I am sorry that I went to shower, and that it took so long, Mister Whitlock. I had vomit all over my hair and clothes and it took forever to come out."

Kate replies quickly. "I told you to take your time. You were covered in vomit and that is no way to work! It would have taken forever to get out if you had left it sitting there for the rest of the day. Pa Marcus has been sleeping."

Angela nods and waits for word from Doctor Snow.

"Yes, he seems to be resting and resting well. Breathing is right where it needs to be, and so is his heart rate. Now all we can do is wait," Doctor Snow says.

"What could have caused this? Do you have any idea?" Stephen asked.

"No. I honestly don't. I wish I did, Mister Izzi," Doctor Snow replies.

"Pa Marcus will be alright with some rest. I know it! He needs to meet his grandchild." Kate says with passion.

I love when she is positive like this. I kiss her hand and we sit and watch. I finish my coffee and put the cup back on the end table.

"I don't know why; I feel off," Kate says to me with a weird look in her eyes.

Kate is fidgeting. Way more than normal.

"Are you alright, Darlin'?" I see Stephen coming over to Kate.

"Princess, do you think that the little one is on the way?" Stephen asks Kate, and I am concerned.

"My water has not broken yet, and my contractions are still a ways apart. Like almost fifteen minutes. It's too early for the hospital, Pa. I will let you know," she says with a smile.

"Why didn't you say something? Why don't you lie down and rest? Who knows what kind of labor you will have."

She nods, and Stephen walks with her to our bedroom. I am not even sure what to do.

"Doctor Snow, can you check Mrs. Whitlock when you get a chance? She might be in labor," Alistair asks, and I am not sure why I did not think about it.

"Of course, Mister Whilock. Let me finish with Elder Mister Whitlock and I will see Mrs. Whitlock." Doctor snow says, then looks at Angela. "Angela, please see Mrs. Whilock and I will be right there."

She nods and leaves the room.

"It would not surprise me if Mrs. Whitlock was in labor. She has been so stressed over your father, Mister Whitlock. Do you want to be with her or with your father?"

I have no idea.

"I will stay here while you check her. Alistair, would you stay with my father if I need to leave?"

Alistair nods, and this makes me happy. "Thank you. I don't want to leave him. But I can't miss my child's birth."

"I know your father would understand."

I nod in thanks.
