Chapter Nine
I go back to my room and hear my phone ring. The special ring that I have for my love.
I answer it quickly and quietly.
"Hello?"
"Are you ready to leave?" A loving voice asks.
"I need to get the girls up. They fell asleep."
I hear a hmmm.
"Where are they? In your private room?"
"Yes. I need to see Mister Jenks. He needs to go over Marcus's will. Jasper murdered him soon after my daughter was born."
I know it bothers him to not be able to say that they are his.
"I will ask to wait to raid until the lawyer is gone. Any other complications?"
I look towards the door. "Let me check."
I go to leave and look down the hallway and hear nobody. I go to Marcus's room and it seems the guys are all looking tired. My plans are working.
Leaving them, I quietly go back to my room where the girls are still sleeping.
I check the room, including the closet and bathroom. Then grab the phone and resume the call.
"Everyone is in the room with Marcus. Eating and drinking."
I hear a string of curse words from the other end of the phone.
"How did this happen? Could you have stopped it?"
"Considering I just gave birth, probably not. I wasn't in the room when it happened either way." I say with annoyance.
"Shit. Sorry. Good! I am glad you weren't there. Alright, have your meeting with Jenks and make it in your room. Then we will get you out of there. Got it?" Benjamin tells me with concern in his voice. "I love you."
I am about to respond when I hear another knock on the door.
"One minute." I want to hang up the phone but decide against it. Instead, I put it on speaker and telling Benjamin to record and mute himself. I put the phone out of sight and get into bed next to Elise.
"Come in." I'm happy to see it is Jenks. With two huge boxes behind him. "I am sorry, Mister Jenks. The girls fell asleep, and I forgot all about our meeting. May we meet in here so I don't have to leave them?" I ask with a sweet voice.
"Of course. That was why I came. I have everything here. Would you like me to read it to you?" I start to shake my head no, but realize it might come in handy if he did.
"Would you please? That way I can ask questions. Also, can I meet you in the sitting room? It would be quieter for the girls."
"That's a great idea. Show me the way."
I point where I want him to go and make it look like I am checking on my girls before we talk. I grab my phone and a pen and paper in case I need to take notes. I put on a sweatshirt with pockets and put my phone in it, microphone out.
When I get there, he is taking everything out of the boxes and setting them out so I can see them.
"There is a lot here. It might take a while. If you need a break, just let me know."
I smile, and he begins.
So, like a good man, he reads nearly everything.
Everything is mine.
The houses, cars, money.
The crime family.
To do what I want with it.
At this moment, I almost feel bad.
He tells me I have all the names and accounts of who did what and when. He tells me I can read over that all later.
Where bodies are hidden.
Where the women and children that the family sold went.
I have so much power.
I look at Jenks and smile.
"Thank you, Mister Jenks. Where can I sign? I would like to take over immediately."
He hands me a pen and I sign everything where he shows me. I am given a copy of my own, which says everything I just read.
It's a lot. Thankfully, the girls are sleeping still.
"I will leave this one with you and take the other with me. Where would you like your copy? We don't want it left out and destroyed."
I think about it. "My closet. I do my laundry and cleaning. Nobody will find it there." I show him the way and he brings it with him, then puts it in the corner.
"I will file this immediately. Thank you, Missus Whitlock."
"Thank you, Mister Jenks. I will talk to you soon. Let me know when everything is done."
I open the door and he takes his box and leaves.
"Don't let anyone know you spoke to me, please. I just want to nap in peace."
A smile appears on his face, and he nods. Leaving me and the girls. I do a check and take the speakerphone off.
"Did you get all that?"
I hear cheers and joyful shouts from the other end of the phone from multiple voices.
"Oh, you did great! Do you really have copies of every single transaction?" Benjamin asks with happiness.
"Well, only if I get immunity. I don't want to go to jail having it in my possession. As well as anything I might have done while here."
I hear some voices speaking.
"I also want a new name for myself and my daughters. And some money and things that we had here. Mainly things for my daughters and three things for me."
I wait.
"What are you wanting? We will make sure it happens."
"Clothes and toys for the kids. Clothes for me. Pictures: from my life and theirs. I have a few boxes of them already packed. I need the box I just got. A van and two car seats. I don't want to risk tracking devices on them. And lots of overnight maxi pads with wings." I knew that this would make the group of men uncomfortable.
"For what? You just had a child." Someone asked.
"And after a child is born, women bleed. For up to two weeks. Very heavily. If I am not going to be here, I am going to need access to more of them. I have a few days' worth maybe…" Rambling was always a good way to get my way. Which I was going to get.
"I don't see anything wrong with that, my dear," one of the men says.
"I want this in writing. That nothing you find I might have done in duress will come against me and I won't be separated from my girls." I asked sweetly.
"You will not be away from the girls for longer than the time it will take for you to be checked at the hospital." Another voice says. "Only because we need to make sure you are okay."
"I understand. I am not at my best, but I had a home birth today because I was too far advanced to go to the hospital. I think I gave birth within thirty minutes of the contractions happening."
That made Benjamin chuckle. "Didn't you barely make it to the hospital with the oldest, Elise?"
"I think I gave birth ten minutes after they admitted me in the ER. To be honest."
I heard a laugh.
"Sounds about right. Alright. Anything else?" Benjamin asked.
"We leave tonight. Mainly so I can go when everyone is asleep."
"Then we can raid the place after you leave. Sounds like a plan."
I smile.
If I have it my way, everyone will be dead before they get here.
Well, everyone except me and my girls.
