Calling her

snoopykid asked for a oneshot of Emma having a really bad day. Her rising temper causes the *season 5 spoilers!* dagger to call to her. She goes to Regina to learn about controlling the lingering darkness. Snowing and Henry find out what's been happening and question why Emma couldn't have come to them for help.

Guest: I think that would go the same way as the essay chapter.

Snow and Charming had thought they'd seen Emma driving towards the mayor's house. They had thought nothing of it. It was only when Regina called them to give them a head's up that Emma was in a foul mood…and that foul mood had resulted in her feeling the dagger's call. Now they were alarmed. Not only that Emma was still hearing the dagger, but that she couldn't speak to them about it with them. Henry too was concerned, having overheard the phone call. So when Regina told them Emma had headed to the docks to try and calm herself down (as per Regina's suggestion) they went down their themselves. Sure enough, there she was at the end of the peer. The family slowly approached her.

"Emma?" Charming asked cautiously. Emma's eyes had been closed as she listened to the waves below softly beating against the rocks. She opened them, blinking against the sunlight, and saw her parents and son looking down at her, clearly concerned. She sighed.

"Regina spoke to you, didn't she?" Emma stated more than asked. Her parents nodded.

"We were worried." Snow said. "Not just about the dagger calling you, but that you went to her rather than any of us."

"Yeah mom. Why couldn't you speak to us?" Henry asked her, clearly hurt. Emma looked up at them all. Did they really not understand?

"It's not that I didn't feel that I could speak to any of you about it, it's that Regina was the most likely to understand." She explained. Her family looked back at her confused. Had Regina been the Dark One at some point without any of them knowing? Did she ever feel the dagger calling? "Regina had felt the lure of darkness so many times. She still wants to take the easy option from time to time. She was the most likely to empathise on this occasion and be able to give me a solution rather than sympathy." Now the family understood. They wished they were able to help Emma more through this, but they knew perhaps Regina was a better option for this.

"Well, did she help?" Charming asked. Emma nodded.

"I'd rather not go into the details of what we discussed." She said, her eyes flashing momentarily at Henry. Snow and Charming understood. Perhaps later, but perhaps not. Maybe this was not the right time to push Emma for information she wasn't ready, and may never be ready, to give. As much as their questions burned inside, begging to be answered, they would hold their tongues. They would let Emma get through this her way, remaining a supportive presence when she wanted them.
