What's Your Name?

Disclaimer- No I would not be writing fan fiction if I actually owned Naruto or any of its characters.

Summary- 23 year old Hinata with nothing better to do on a Friday evening, suffering from writer's block, frustration about her own fantasies about love; finds herself at the beach, when she sees a blonde man in need of rescuing. Will she be able to help him or find herself to be the damsel in distress? Not at all good with summaries. One shot. Complete.

A/N- So this is actually not my first fic but the one that I had written before was extremely horrendous so it got deleted (whoops). Anyway, I was quite frustrated with my own writing skills so I decided to write a oneshot and well, it turned out better than I expected.

I had a lot of fun writing it, although I think the ending might have been a little cheesy (?) I don't know, I didn't mind it much so I kept it unaltered.

So if you do take out some time out of your lives to read this fic then thank you so much :') and please enjoy.

It was Friday.

A pleasant Friday evening.

The sky was clear; the warm weather was welcome after the blizzard and harsh winter.

People bustled about the small city of konoha, basking in the cool climatic conditions before the scorching heat of the summer arrived.

And what was Hinata doing? Well, as of now she lay on her bed in her room, staring holes into the ceiling.

It wasn't as if she was mad at anyone or anything, it just stung a little that her 18 year old sister was kicking her out of the house because Hanabi had a date coming over. And their father remained oblivious to this as always because he left Hinata and Hanabi alone for months together while he travelled abroad for business trips. He loved them, Hinata knew, but his absence did nothing to discourage hanabi's notorious behaviour.

Who was she to judge her sister though? Hanabi was an adult and knew what she was doing (at least when she was sober).

And Hinata was the 23 year old spending the past innumerable Friday nights at home, a bottle of red wine with her, trying to finish off the draft of her story but, ugh, it was hard to write about love when she had never even experienced it. She had had boyfriends, yes, but had she been in love with them? No. when she was 12 she thought she did love somebody but now she wasn't so sure.

He had been her best friend but got transferred to a different city and attended school there.

They did everything together so it felt as if somebody had aggressively pulled off one of her limbs when he went away. She never realised how much losing him would impact her, but when he did leave…those were few of the worst months of her life.

That's when she realised that she had been in love with him

So, getting back to the point, when her only real experience came from an age of 12, where she still wasn't even half a bit mature, Why write about love, you ask? Because…well, she just wanted to. Call her stubborn but she thought, just thought, even if it may sound lonely, writing about the topic might fulfil the absence of it in her life.

Great, now she sounded stupid.

"Nee-chan! Please hurry!" a shrill voice rang out as a small figure stood in the door frame of hinata's room.

"Yes, yes I'm leaving Hanabi. It's nice to see my presence is desired for so much in this house."

"Nee-chann, you know I love you. And I would really enjoy spending the entire weekend with you but right now Konohamaru is coming over so please. I owe you."

A giggle escaped hinata's plump lips, "Aah, is konohamaru the same boy I've been hearing so much about for the past few weeks? What's exactly been going on between the two of you?"

A dark blush rose up to the younger sister's cheeks as her mouth formed into a pout, "Quit teasing me, nee-chan."

"Fine, fine alright, I'll leave."

"Thank you so much, nee-chan. I love you."

OoOoO

She walked out of her house with a question clouding her mind.

Now, where am I supposed to go?

It wasn't as if she minded walking aimlessly on the streets around midnight with not that many people in sight….Who was she even trying to fool?

Letting out a quick sigh she let her feet carry her over to….wherever it is they were taking her.

After what felt like hours of walking she swayed her head, examining her destination.

The beach.

She had arrived at the beach almost after half an hour of walking (it felt way longer than that mind you). The sand soft under her feet, the breeze swaying her hair, the water frothing and foaming as it persistently hit the shore, the stars twinkling as they lit up the night sky.

This place really was something else, huh? Something entirely different from what it was during the sunny hours of day, swarmed with an astounding number of men, women and children.

She took off her shoes and walked closer towards the sparkling water. Her bag gently swaying on her side, she looked through its contents. Wine, laptop, air pods, phone and ah…the towel.

Spreading the cloth on the sandy surface, she gently sat on it, taking out the bottle of wine (rather enthusiastically) and laptop out of the purse too.

She sat there, her eyes fixed upon the bright computer screen. Her story so far just consisted of an awfully boring emcee, meeting the one meant for him and his life getting turned upside down.

Why do such things exist only in stories? With a sigh, her pale eyes gently closed. She was tired and she should be able to return home now right? Hanabi's date must have ended by now. After all it had been, her eyes fluttered open to look at the time….half an hour since she left. Shit.

Hinata looked back up at the ocean expecting to see the calm waves striking the shore. Well they were doing that but along with the waves something…obnoxiously orange…. was bobbing up and down.

Curiosity getting the better of her she stood up and walked towards the sea, upon getting closer it was clearly visible that the bright…thing? Had an arm, wait no, two and there was a vibrant shock of yellow hair...oh god no, it was a person.

She had to do something right? Should she scream for help? But there was nobody around and the lifeguard's post was vacant.

Hinata's eyes widened slightly as an idea struck her.

She didn't have a bathing suit but…she lifted up the collar of her shirt, looking anxiously at her lavender bra. She could get in the water in her underwear. No one was around and the unconscious person was ….well, unconscious.

Insecurity gleaming in her eyes she shed her clothing and took a look at her surroundings, and then back at her bare torso and long pale legs clad in nothing but a lavender brassiere and matching panties.

Hinata walked into the water till the surface of the water reached her waist. A shudder vibrating through her body as the cold water lapped at her skin.

She went in deeper till her hand could actually reach the person, the waves reaching her neck. The person was definitely not conscious since their body was just floating there, a surfing board with a similar obnoxious shade of orange was floating close to it, and so it must have been a…surfing accident? She concluded with uncertainty.

Her arms stretched out in front of her trying to grab the body, when she finally found a hand, she grabbed it and started to wade back to the shore.

Unfortunately, she had overestimated her own strength because….the man, she observed when she pulled him, was quite heavy and the water current, was not very helpful either, as it pulled them deeper into the ocean.

Oh no, oh no no no, her mind flooded with panic as she felt her feet give way and her body violently got dragged underwater. Her eyes forced themselves shut, while her hands flapped up and down aggressively trying to reach back the surface. She felt the man's hand slip away from her own. Her arms reach out to grab the man's hand again, but her efforts were in vain.

Surface….i need to reach the surface…air...i need air…

Hinata's mouth gasped for oxygen but all she felt was salt water entering her lungs painfully.

Her limbs felt limp as she pushed back against ocean currents before everything turned dark, the only feeling getting registered by her brain other was something warm wrapping around her waist.

OoOoO

There was something in her mouth. Or at least near her mouth, it felt less weird than it sounded.

It felt…soft, and warm. But the sensation was fleeting as it was quickly taken away from her.

Instead her body forced her to sit up and cough and splutter and feel as though her lungs were on fire. Her tongue felt like a sponge in her own mouth, and there was sand all over her body, making every movement uncomfortable.

She wiped her eyes with the back of her hand before opening them.

A small gasp left her mouth as her lavender eyes widened. It was dark out and she was at the beach.

None of that sounds surprising enough for the reaction she gave, does it?

Well, the reaction would suffice if she found herself sitting in front of the man that she had stripped down to her undergarments to try and save.

Well that plan had clearly been a flop, because there she was regaining her consciousness while he knelt next to her his hands gently supporting her back. He grinned at her nervously, his eyes equivalent to small squints.

She had no idea what the hell had happened, and how this man who had been unconsciousness when she last saw him, was the one saving her or at least she thought he had saved her?

With a grunt she pushed her body up. Standing on her feet, she took a few deep breaths in, recollecting her own stream of thoughts.

"You okay? I think you should sit down and get some rest." A voice broke out from behind her.

She turned around to look at the speaker.

If she hadn't gotten a good look at the man before, she definitely got one now.

Even with pain and irritation clouding her mind she realised one thing.

He was gorgeous.

His hair was a bright blonde as it hung over his forehead and eyes, his bangs damp with seawater, but the shadow cast by the bangs did not hide the bright blue eyes that sparkled underneath. There were three whisker-like scars on each of his cheeks, which did nothing but accentuate his well-defined jawline.

He got up from his crouching position and she let her eyes roam his body for just a moment too long. His torso looked sculpted, glimmering when the sand particles stuck to his body reflected the moonlight.

Her mind took in the reality of her situation and never had she ever moved that quickly.

Hinata crouched down low, suddenly self-conscious about her own severe lack of clothing. Her undergarments which had once been opaque now had turned rather translucent.

She let out a groan internally and her face contracted into a wince momentarily. He had already seen her like…. this, but she couldn't help but feel insecurity overwhelm her.

The blonde haired man on the other hand, stared obtusely at her cowered figure, his brain trying its best to realise what had caused the sudden change in her behaviour. His head cocked slightly to the side. One minute, she was just laying their unconscious and now she was…

Oh oh, she was uncomfortable. That was a plausible explanation.

Her eyes remained tightly shut as she felt something hit her. "H-hey!", she stammered as her bottom hit the sand with a slight 'thud'.

Her companion merely smiled at her as she looked at what he had thrown at her.

It was a shirt.

She looked up to see his kind eyes staring at her as she owlishly stared back.

Her eyes met his as he tilted his head lightly to the right, giving her a brief nod as if saying," go ahead, put it on".

With not another word, he started walking ahead along the beach, his hands burying themselves in the pockets of his board shorts.

She stared at his back, still sitting on the ground, clutching his shirt. His offer had struck her by surprise, but she accepted it nevertheless.

Putting on the garment, she shuffled quickly after him.

When she reached his side, his bright blue eyes looked at her pale ones, her voice broke the silence between them," T-thank you. I mean for the shirt as well as…saving me?"

He let out a chuckle, his eyes fixed on the path ahead," No problem. And I mean for the shirt and saving you. Although I don't think you should be thanking me for the second part."

"W-why would you say that? You did save me.'

"Well, I think you were in that position in the first place because you were trying to save me?" his features contracting into a wince as he spoke.

She stopped walking as her eyes narrowed; he watched her from the corner of his eyes and followed suit.

"Wait a minute; I remember now", her lavender orbs looking accusingly at him, "you were lying there as if you had passed out so…how did you end up rescuing me?"

He turned around to face her, all the while rubbing his neck nervously," Well, you see I hadn't actually passed out. Nowhere near it to be honest. Full control over my senses."

"What do you mean by 'full control over my senses', you were j-just…lying there!" she proclaimed, her voice rising a bit in volume while her hand moved about as If explaining her sentiment.

He barked out a laughter, "'Lying there'? I don't think those you can 'lay' in the ocean."

She pouted slightly, a light blush rising to her cheeks," Floating there, whatever. You still didn't answer my question…"

"Yeah I kinda owe you an explanation, don't I? Well, I was just swimming, trying and failing to catch a good wave; you have the high tide to thank for my demise. Anyway, at one point I gave up and was about to leave, that's when I noticed you walking up to the beach so I was just floating there and I got…curious. Um but soon after that, I think you saw me and thought I needed…saving. The irony of the incidents afterwards makes me laugh."

He chortled at his own statement, however the gleeful expression on his face faded as his eyes fell on Hinata, whose face gave a clear representation of the phrase 'if looks could kill'.

"God, how can you be so stupid? What if you had actually drowned? Even if you hadn't drowned what if I had? What if you weren't able to swim us both back to the shore?"

Naruto let out a sigh, walking up to the fuming Hyuga. His tan hands gently rested on her shoulders," I'm sorry. I truly am. I shouldn't have acted unconscious just to see what you would do next."

Hinata didn't remove his hands from upon her shoulder blades, instead she brought up her own arms folding them under her chest," You're being sarcastic."

A small chuckle exited his mouth, "I'm not being sarcastic; I'm just sorry."

"…."

Her silence made another sigh leave his lips, solemnity replacing the humour previously present in his eyes, "Alright alright, I'll be serious now I promise. I really am sorry but..."

She stared at him hotly, waiting for him to finish.

What she didn't see coming though was his head bending low coming closer to hers. The glare present on her face vanished, surprise taking over her delicate features.

She felt herself freeze on the spot, watching the inches between their faces reducing. Was he going to….

"but just know that I wouldn't have let you drown", the words had been spoken so low that she didn't think she would have heard them at all if it hadn't been for the stillness of the night. His breath felt warm on her ear, the scent of his hair wafting through her nose.

He smelt…like the ocean mixed with a bit of sweat. That should have been fairly obvious considering they were both drenched in seawater.

Her eyes gently closed, as she fought the persistent blush that kept rising up her cheeks. Her heart felt as if it could race a mile in a minute.

She exhaled slowly, her pale eyes cracking open to see the nape of his neck. She parted her lips to speak but he receded as abruptly as he had come close, and as he moved backwards the warmth she had felt flood her body, was snatched away from her too.

Without another word, he turned around and continued walking along the beach.

She stared at his back, feet implanted to the spot on which she stood. What had just happened? She thought he was going to kiss her, he didn't though. She didn't know how she felt about that. She wasn't disappointed he hadn't kissed her but there wasn't relief flooding in her either. She would have expected herself to be afraid or even be a little disquieted out by his gestures, considering she didn't even know his name! but that wasn't the case. There was no panic or fear inside of her, now that the shock was slowly fading away, all she felt was intrigue. Curiosity.

She wanted to know him.

She almost never let her temper get the best of her and it took almost all the courage she had to just talk to somebody she didn't know. But with him her usual social awkwardness lay forgotten, her generally hidden emotions revealed themselves before she could stop them.

She wanted to know him.

Is this what he felt when he said he had been curious when he saw coming up to the beach? She didn't know the answer to that, but her own thoughts rang clear inside her head.

She wanted to know him.

So under the feint light of the moon, she ran after him.

OoOoO

After she had caught up to him, they walked. Nothing more, nothing less. They just strolled along the beach, neither spoke a word, they just walked.

The silence that filled the air wasn't awkward, it was comforting in its own way. She had never been much of a talker anyway so she didn't mind, she never knew what to say and always ended up sounding weird.

This is better, she thought, whatever it is that we're doing. It was like he already found her presence soothing, and he didn't even know her!

Her eyes looked away from the water and turned to the man walking beside her. He was gazing up at the sky, his skin glimmering under the dim light of the night sky, his hair seemed golden as it gently swayed about his tanned face, he was…beautiful, truly beautiful. She didn't know how else to describe it; she couldn't help but just…stare.

Sensing her eyes upon him he looked down at her, an arched eyebrow shooting up as his mouth spread into a small smile.

She felt heat rise up slowly from her neck to her cheeks. She immediately looked away and coughed, embarrassed to have been caught gaping at him.

He seemed to have realised her flustered composition, as he gave a low chuckle. His feet quickened his pace as he broke into a jog. She looked up when he stopped a few feet away from her, his face split into a wide grin.

"You never did tell what your name was."

A smile crept upon her lips," you never asked."

"Well, now I'm asking, so tell me, what's your name? "

She folded her arms, eyes looking playfully at him, "I don't even know you. You could be a thug for all I know."

His eyebrows rose, a laugh erupting from his lips, "I don't think a thug would have saved you from drowning. So what, you don't have a name?"

"I do have a name; I just don't give it away to thugs who lie in the ocean in the middle of the night."

His eyes rolled but a smile remained on his face, "For the last time, I wasn't lying in the ocean. I went surfing."

"I never saw you actually surfing though."

"Don't blame me for the stupid high tides."

Her head tilted to the side, "You can always check the tide before going out?"

His head cocked to the right, too, a thoughtful expression replacing his goofy smiles, "huh. I never thought about that. That's a good idea."

A laughter bubbled up inside her and her giggles filled the air, "The thought really never struck your head? "

He rolled his eyes before looking directly into hers, they contained something that she couldn't explain but it made her gut squirm lightly, "of course the thought struck my head. My roommate has a girl over so he kinda kicked me out of the house before I had the chance to check the tides."

A finger was raised by her, as she tapped it at her chin, "Why would he kick you out if he has a girl over…oh, oh oh."

A dark blush covered her face, which went unnoticed by him as he rambled on, "Yeah, so I didn't have the time to check the waves and got out of the apartment in a hurry, so now, here we are." His arms waved about dramatically as he looked at Hinata.

"Why didn't you go to a friend's house when you got kicked out?"

A tan hand scratched the back of his head as he looked up at the sky, "Uhhh, this time I think my brain actually couldn't come up with that idea. My feet just automatically brought me to the beach."

Hinata snorted, nodding as she looked at the sand, racking her brain as to what to say next. She didn't want the conversation to come to a halt just yet.

"What about you?" his voice booms out, pulling her away from her thoughts.

"H-huh?"

"How did you end up here so late at night?"

"My sister has her boyfriend over and as much as I would have liked to stay and third wheel them, she-"

"You got kicked out too!" he chuckled his arms folding themselves behind his head, "Seems like everyone has something better to do than us, doesn't it?"

Hinata looked up at him, a smile on her face, "What would you have done tonight, if you hadn't been..." her hands spread themselves, motioning to their surroundings, "here."

"What would I have done? Hm that's not a bad question..." his fingers tapped his chin lightly,"Gotten drunk. That's all I know for sure."

Hinata laughed but when she looked at him again she realised he was being serious. Oh. Well she was no one to judge him. She had been lightly buzzed before she had met him, which reminds her…

An idea struck her mind as she grabbed his hand, and pulled him ahead. His eyes widened almost comically as he stumbled to follow the suddenly excited Hinata.

He looked at her questioningly and felt something hitch in his throat as he took in her appearance. The change in Hinata, although sudden, suited her. A lot. Her eyes glinted with excitement as she dragged him across the sand to who knows where.

And he let her.

OoOoO

"This is the best idea you've had all night." He told her, his eyes examining the label of the wine bottle." Also, this is some good wine, you must be loaded."

A forced laugh exited hinata's mouth, her hands rubbing her knees. "I won't say loaded. It's my father's money after all, I'm as broke as they come by."

He took a swig of the wine before passing the bottle to her, "That's okay; I'm still paying off my student loans too. It's a real pain in the ass."

They sat on the towel that Hinata had spread on the beach when she had first arrived. It had been big enough for her to sit on comfortably. But now they both sat on it, so close that Hinata had a hard time keeping her incessant blushing at bay. Their outfits didn't help much either. He wore nothing but a pair of board shorts and she was still in his shirt. After an unfortunate discovery where she found her own clothes covered in sand, he had insisted that she kept his top on.

With a sigh, she pushed all the thoughts to the back of her mind, sipping the dark red liquid.

"Can I see this?" a question came out of his mouth, his eyes examining a small notebook that was slipping out of her book bag.

She gave a small nod, as he started looking through it with enthusiasm, "You write?"

She nodded again, slight embarrassment and insecurity creeping into her.

She had been plotting her story in that note book and it was still quite…rough to say the least.

He sipped the wine, "What's it about? The story?"

"Love… At least that's what I was trying to achieve. Like sincere, unfeigned love. Not the banal stuff with them wanting to spend eternities together or anything like that. I wanted to write something that the audience would find easier to relate to."

His kind blue eyes turn to look at her, "And?"

She held his gaze, "And what?"

"Why haven't you started writing yet then? You seem pretty clear about what you want to present so why are you still hesitating?"

Her mouth opened to answer him but no words came out, her brain trying to muster up an answer. She ogled at his face but found herself unable to reply to him because of …the intensity. The intensity of his stare forced her to look away. She couldn't look at him, not when his eyes seemed scrutinize her so thoroughly.

"Because…because what if I'm wrong? What if love isn't like what I imagine at all?" her eyes looked back at his, which had softened and he gave her a gentle smile. A sense of déjà vu washed through her. This was all a little too familiar.

How was it familiar? She had no idea.

"Why don't you take help from your own experiences?", his deep voice said softly, "Have you ever been in love?"

She took a deep breath in before continuing, "Once. At least I think it was love." Her gaze broke from his again as her eyes looked out at the ocean," It was when I was 12 and there was this boy in my grade. I don't remember anything about him really. His hair. His face. his height. I remember nothing except for the fact that I was amazed by him and how pretty he was."

He barked out a laugh, "Pretty?"

Her tone became defensive as a smile lit up her face, "He was extremely pretty for your information."

His laughter died down. A sigh escaping his parted lips as his head lent back, "you remember his name?"

"Mhm." She nodded slightly, a faraway look in her eyes.

He watched her from the corner of his eye, "What was it?"

She looked at him, her eyes glassy as she took another deep breath in.

"Naruto."

Everything was silent for a moment.

The swishing of the air seemed to have stopped, the swaying leaves of the coconut trees seemed to have stood still and the gushing sound of the water seemed distant as she looked into a rich shade of blue which could have rivalled the hues of the sky.

It didn't last for longer than that.

Just a moment.

A moment that had been tucked safely into her basket of unforgettable memories.

"Do you want to dance?" his deep voice asked gently.

Hinata felt taken aback by the sudden question and the expression with which he looked at her, it made her stomach squirm lightly as she felt herself nodding.

He grabbed her hands and pulled Hinata gently up to her feet.

"We don't have any music." Her statement came out more as a question as her pale eyes peered at his azure ones.

"We don't need any. The melody produced by nature is more than enough." His eyebrows waggling suggestively as she chuckled lightly.

"That sounded cornier than I would have expected."

He smiled warmly at her before taking her small hands in his own. They danced to the sound of the waves crashing and spreading out onto the shore. They danced to the whistles of the wind. The sand was soft underneath their feet.

Hell, no amount of poetic words would have been able to capture how she felt.

How genuine she felt.

Genuinely amused.

Genuinely interested.

Genuinely happy.

She was clad in nothing other than his shirt which was too big for her, yet she had never felt more elegant as she waltzed with him.

After what seemed like hours they halted their dance. She looked at him, her eyes glassy, her lips split into a smile, her cheeks flushed.

"Thank you." her voice came out, barely over a whisper.

He didn't ask her for what she was thankful for, instead his mouth spread into an equally content smile. He just… understood.

His voice came out softly, "What's your name?"

"Hinata."

His smile widened, and was brighter than the pale light of the night.

Before she had the chance to repeat the question, she felt his rosy lips on her pink ones. She melted into his arms as her own laced around his neck.

The kiss was sweet, his lips were softer than she had imagined and she already knew she wouldn't get tired of kissing them.

She felt his tongue slide on her bottom lip and she gently parted her lips, letting his tongue meet her own. She felt ecstasy vibrate through her, as her fingers threaded through thick golden locks, his hands on her waist pulling her as close as was physically possible.

She moaned into the kiss, which fuelled his enthusiasm, as he kissed her with renewed ferocity.

Sooner than she would have liked, he pulled back. Her face a bright shade of red and small beads of tears appearing on the corners of her eyes. When she spoke, her voice almost quivered as her pale eyes gazed at his cerulean ones.

"What did you say your name was?"

After what felt like an eternity he answered her.

His voice filled with emotion.

"Naruto"

His smile was warm as he cupped her face, his thumb gingerly caressing her cheek, his eyes glistening as he returned her gaze,

"It's me Hinata-chan. I'm back."

Without another word she pulled him back for another kiss.

Alright *claps* that was the story. How was it? How was it? Aah I feel like a little kid waiting for candy. I'm so curious to know what y'all think about the story. Throw it all at me, the criticisms, the roasts or even the so very clever "die" reviews.

Your reviews will seriously be veryyy helpful to me and also, I would really like to write more oneshots and I am working on a long story right now too. Sooo, if there is any specific idea for a story or oneshot you might have, I would lovee to write it for you, just text me the idea on pm or even in the reviews.

Also, I wanted to write some eren x mikasa from shingeki no kyojin and gon x killua from hunterxhunter. So if you wanted to give any ideas for that then please feel free to.

Thank you all so much for reading, till the next time.
