A/N: Hello there. I'm on quite the roll for updates. After finishing the High King's Bride, I started looking at my other stories, trying to get some inspiration. I didn't even realize that I had an almost complete outline done for this story. Just reading it was enough to motivate me to start writing the next chapter. A review popped up and that sealed it for me. Here is the chapter three of this tale. Thanks for sticking with it and for following and favoriting this story. Please let me know what you think by clicking the review button.

Well, it's been three weeks and I'm beginning to think the whole thing was a hallucination brought upon by too much stress and way too many late night Twinkies. The only problem with this theory is sitting on my nightstand right now. If this was all a dream, how can you explain the crystal? No, I haven't been able to make anything cool happen with it. Really, all it does is sit there and collect dust. Still…

I should probably just get rid of the thing. I mean, it's driving me crazy. Well…crazier. I just can't seem to toss the damn thing. I just wish that I could find out what the hell is going on. If I'm going insane, at least I could begin to get some help. Wait a minute…maybe that's all that I need to do. I've turned it this way and that, shook it, threw it across the room, but I haven't made any wishes on it. Could it really be that simple?

I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to try it, really. What if he comes and kidnaps my brother – oh, never mind. Not even the Goblin King would want anything to do with a smelly teenage Neanderthal like my big brother. Still, what if there is a consequence for making a wish on that crystal? Worse yet, what if nothing happens and I'm just going crazy? I'm not sure I want to know the answer to that question. I think I'll leave it be, for now.

WHOA! Hold the phone! I've made contact. He was here…in my room! He looked just as he did in the movie. In fact, he even sounded like the movie. How do I know this? I, Samantha Elizabeth Taylor, actually SPOKE to the Goblin King. Yes, that's right. You're reading this correctly. I had an honest-to-God real-life conversation with Jareth, the Goblin King. Now, you may be asking yourself, how did this happen? I know I would if I were you. Here's the story of how I met the Goblin King.

Samantha took hold of the deceptively light crystal, turning it in her hand. Her reflection was the only thing she could see on its surface. She opened her mouth to make a wish and then closed it again, losing her nerve. Why was this so hard? If nothing happened, she'd pitch the damn thing and be done with all of this intrigue. Before she could gather her courage, her phone began to ring. She jumped, laughing at herself for startling so easily.

"It's only forever, not long at all. Lost and lonely, that's Underground. Underground."

Setting down the orb, the teen reached out and grabbed her cellphone. A name and number were flashing on the screen. She swiped her finger across it to accept the call.

"Hello, Becks."

"Hey, Sam."

"What's up?"

"Not much. Just wanted to know if you wanted to come over and watch SNL with me. Maroon 5's going to be the musical guest and you know how much I love some Adam Levine."

Samantha gave the orb one last look before shrugging her shoulders. It wasn't like it was going anywhere and she needed to get out of the house. Her parents were out for the night and Scott was in charge. He had all of his idiot friends downstairs watching football and making a big stinky mess. She was tired of listening to their grunts and groans as they watched the latest game. Ordinarily, she liked being up in her room but she hated being forced to stay there.

"Sure," she said into the phone. "Let me just text my mom to make sure she's cool with it and then I'll be right over."

"See ya soon, girl."

"Bye, babe."

Samantha sent a quick text to her mom. "Hey mom. Can I go over to Becks?"

It didn't take long for the phone to ping back, "Did you clean your room?"

Letting out a dramatic sigh, Sam sent back, "Yes, mommy. Pleeeaaassseee can I go?"

This time, the wait was a little longer and she became a little worried that her mom was going to say no. Finally, the phone pinged again. "I guess. Don't stay up too late."

Sam smiled and texted back, "I won't. Luv u mom."

"Love you, too."

After sending a quick text back to Becky, Sam quickly put a change of clothes into her backpack and headed out the door. She tried to sneak past her brother, but he was getting a snack in the kitchen and saw her.

"Where do you think you're going?"

Samantha rolled her eyes. "To Becky's, not that it's any of your business."

"Mom and dad put me in charge so I get to say if you can go."

"You have no power over me, Scott."

"Not that stupid movie again," he sighed.

"Whatever. Mom gave me permission so you can drag yourself back to the troglodytes you call your friends."

"Hey dude," cried the voice of one of those said friends as he came into the room. "Whoa, who's the hottie?"

"Gross, man. That's my baby sister."

"Your baby sister's a babe," he said, laughing at his own joke.

"I'm out," Sam announced. "See you tomorrow, bog breath."

"Whatever. Bye."

So, I booked it out of there as quick as I could. I wasn't kidding, though. His friends are troglodytes. I feel like I need a shower after being in the same vicinity as them. When we were younger, they would tease me and pull my hair. Now, they think it's funny to hit on me. As if I'd let any of them even touch me. Yuck! It'd probably be like the bog and I'll smell bad for life. Anyway, I digress…

I made it to Becky's before the start of SNL. Andy was back to being slightly weird. Or, maybe that's just normal. I don't know. He's a year older than me so maybe it's just an older guy thing. The only basis of comparison I have to go by is my brother and Andy's really nothing like him so who knows.

We stayed up so late, but don't tell my mom. She doesn't know I even have a blog so I've got to swear you all to secrecy. My mom's barely tech literate so I doubt she'll ever find it on her own. It's cute, really. She's entirely helpless without me. Anyway, by the next day, I'd almost forgotten the whole thing about the crystal. It was Andy that actually reminded me.

Samantha was yawning into her cereal, trying to shake the cobwebs out before it was time to go home. Looking over at Becky, she could tell she wasn't alone in her fatigue. The girls had stayed up well past the end of SNL, talking about everything from school to boys. Luckily, they'd been able to sleep in until Becky's mom finally woke them up at eleven.

"Hey, Sam," Andy greeted, coming in from outside. His cheeks were bright red and a leaf clung to his hair.

"Hi, Andy. Been out raking leaves?"

"How'd you guess?"

Samantha gestured for him to come closer and bend down. When he did as she requested, she reached out and snatched the leaf from his hair. If it were possible, he turned an even brighter shade of red.

"Uh, thanks."

"No problem," she replied, digging back into her cereal bowl.

"So, will you be hanging out here today?" he asked, shifting his bodyweight from foot to foot.

Samantha turned to look at him, wondering why he was still standing there instead of just sitting down. "Probably for a little while, at least. My parents aren't home and Scott and his stupid friends are over there."

"That doesn't sound that bad to me," Becky chimed in. "We should head over there. Maybe they'd let us hang out with them."

"You wish."

"He's got you there," Samantha giggled.

However, his words made her instantly think about the crystal waiting for her. Now that she'd remembered, she couldn't stop thinking about it. She'd have to head home soon to make her wish, but she didn't want to be around her brother and his friends. It was certainly a dilemma and Samantha didn't have much patience on the best of days.

"Uh, I think I'll get changed. See you around."

"See ya." Samantha looked up at Becky, noticing her knowing smile. "What?"

"Nothing."

I ended up hanging out there until my mom texted to let me know that she was home. Of course, when I got there, my parents wouldn't let me "shut myself in my room." They get on these kicks where they want us to have "family time." That usually means sitting around and staring at each other until we can't stand it anymore. I mean, they'll like talk to us and stuff, but it's super awkward.

When mom finally had enough, she told us we were excused so she could start dinner. I booked it to my room in record time. At least I wasn't the only one rushing away. I think Scott was just as relieved to be done with family time as I was. Especially since I could have sworn he looked hung over. Dumbass!

Samantha walked over to her bed and threw her backpack next to it, silently cursing her parents' attempts to bond with her. Flopping back on her fluffy comforter, she rolled over to pick up the crystal orb. For a moment, she tried to do some contact juggling with it. It quickly dropped to her bed and would have rolled off of it completely if she hadn't snatched it back up.

"Come on Samantha. You can do this. Stop being a wimp. If you can handle high school, you can handle a stupid wish."

The teen continued to try to talk herself into making the wish. Again, she tried shaking it and rolling it. Looking into it, she could still only see her own face staring back. Samantha heaved a sigh and hit her head back against the headboard. This was getting her nowhere.

"I wish…" She started, licking her lips. Why were they so dry all of a sudden?

"I wish…" She tried again, still unable to get the words out.

"IwishtheGoblinKingwouldcometome, rightnow," she said, her words coming out in a blurred rush.

Samantha looked around the room and was disappointed to see she was alone. Maybe she really was going crazy. Tossing the orb back on the bed, she allowed herself to flop back down into the mattress. It was a good thing she was alone. She could only imagine what anyone would think of her making a wish to a make believe faerie king.

"It's about time, girl."

The voice was so startling that Samantha actually rolled right out of her bed and onto the floor. She hastily climbed up on her knees and peered over the edge. Standing in her room was the man himself in all his glory. Just as he had the last time she'd seen him, he looked just like the version she'd seen on film. Well, maybe not completely. There were subtle differences from David Bowie's character. For one, his hair wasn't anywhere near as big. His trousers weren't as tight, as well. That was somewhat disappointing.

"Goblin King?" she asked, finally finding her voice.

The smirk he gave her was full of mischief. "I'd almost given up on you."

"What?"

He rolled his eyes as if she were a complete dunce and pointed at the crystal still sitting on her bed. "I left that for you quite some time ago. I didn't think it would take you this long to use it."

"Well, it's not like I do this every day. For all I knew, you weren't even real."

Jareth laughed at that. "Not real? Do I look like a figment of your imagination, girl?"

"Samantha?"

Blinking, owlishly, he stared at her for a moment before nodding. "Very well, Samantha. You may address me as Your Majesty."

"Fine, Your Majesty," she sighed, rolling her eyes.

They had reached an impasse, neither one speaking into an awkward silence. For his part, Jareth fiddled with his gloves and then picked imaginary lint off of his impeccable leather jacket. Samantha rose from her spot on the floor and took a seat back on her bed. Still, neither spoke. Instead, they stared at each other as the silence grew more uncomfortable.

"Well?" she asked, finally breaking the stifling hush.

Jareth reached out and picked up the forgotten orb. Samantha watched as it rolled over his hands and arms in a hypnotic motion. When he was done, it landed on the tips of his fingers. The orb popped like a bubble, spreading glitter on her floor. Samantha frowned at it and then at him.

"Why are you here?"

Jareth almost looked as if he wouldn't answer before suddenly grinding out, "I need your help."

"My help? Why me?"

"You have a level of belief that is rarely seen in your world. Quite frankly, it burns me to have to employ the help of a mortal but desperate times and all that."

Samantha chose to ignore the not so subtle dig. "What can I do?"

Opening his mouth, the Goblin King prepared to finally put an end to her curiosity. However, a pounding sound came from her door. Without a word, Jareth disappeared back to the Underground. Sam growled in frustration and ran to the door. Whipping it open, she saw her brother standing there with his mouth open.

"What do you want, Scott?" she asked, tersely.

"Jeez, moron. What has your panties in a bunch? Did I interrupt your fanfiction writing? Oh, Jareth I love you." He began to make fake kiss noises at her.

"Knock it off, asshole!" she cried.

"Fine, dinner's ready. Mom says it's time to come out of your cave and eat."

Samantha shut the door in his face, yelling through the door. "I'll be right down."

"Whatever, dork," came his voice on the other side. She could hear his footsteps walking away.

"Well, shit," she said to the empty room.

Samantha was about to just forget everything that had happened and go to dinner when she saw it. The crystal orb was back in its place on her nightstand. She picked it up and peered into the smooth surface.

After my asshole of a brother interrupted, I thought that would be it. I was so ready to kick his butt when the crystal lit up. I almost dropped it when I saw the Goblin King's face in it. Holy Amazeballs! He asked to see me again in the park tomorrow. I'm supposed to meet him there after school. Becks and I are supposed to hang out and study, but this is too much of an opportunity to give up. She'll understand. I wonder what he wants to talk to me about. I guess I'll find out tomorrow. Now how the hell am I supposed to sleep?
