So, before you get into this, I just wanna let you know what this is. It's basically a test I wrote for fun, to see if people would be interested in my writing at all. I'll explain the rest at the end, after you've read, but I hope you enjoy.

A short story inspired by some Glory art by u/Do_You_Reckon on Reddit, taking place about 6 months after Arc 3

Glory's Predicament

It had been over two weeks since she last saw him. She hadn't gotten any letters, or dragons bearing news, or anything helpful. She knew she shouldn't have been surprised, considering what he was called to do, but she couldn't help but be worried. He'd never been away this long before, and he'd only gone to Jade Mountain. She knew the place was safe, but it shouldn't have taken so long.

Glory sighed, rubbing her temples. She was at her desk, in her home, with a pile of scrolls stacked up on and near it. Some of those scrolls were requests from NightWings or other RainWings, some were from her friends, and some were from Jade Mountain or other kingdoms, but all of them were things she had to respond to, and she hadn't yet.

The young RainWing queen stood up from where she'd been seated for hours and walked to the center of the room before stretching, causing several joints to pop. Then, she walked over and looked out the window, like she had been every day for a week. It was raining, creating puddles on both the rainforest floor and the village platforms, in which she could see a few dragonets playing happily. The smell of the rain and the steady drumming of its droplets on the roof of her home made her feel a little better, but not much.

Glory decided to take a walk, despite the weather, and left her home, gliding down to the muddy ground some distance below. A small splash sounded as she landed, coating her feet in muddy water, but she barely noticed.

"Queen Glory, Queen Glory," squeaked a small voice from nearby. A RainWing dragonet ran up to her, tail wagging happily. "There's so much rain to play in!"

Glory formed a small smile. "It's been a while since it last rained, hasn't it?"

The dragonet nodded. "Yep! I forgot how fun it was!"

"The rain is pretty fun," Glory agreed, glancing up at the treetops for a moment.

The little RainWing giggled and ran off to play in puddles again, and Glory almost wished they'd stayed, if only to distract her. The queen's smile faded as she turned and walked down the road, away from her home. Dark thoughts plagued her mind, exploring all the bad things that could be keeping Deathbringer away from home so long.

He must have just gotten caught up in the assignment, she thought, trying to push the thoughts away. She knew it wasn't like her to worry, but she couldn't help it. She sighed, coming to a stop beneath a large tree. It wasn't any different than any other trees in the rainforest, just a regular tree, but it was the one she happened to stop by.

Glory flew up onto a low branch and laid down, staring off at the distance, deep in thought. She thought about her friends, over at Jade Mountain, and how they were doing. About Sunny, and her smile, and Clay, with his kindness. Starflight and his knowledge. Tsunami, her unparalleled fierceness. Kinkajou's energy.

It was enough to distract her for a time, but soon her mind drifted back to Deathbringer. She sighed, shaking her head. I should just be patient, she thought, resting her head down on the branch she was on.

I don't worry like this with the others at Jade Mountain, she told herself, but...I know what they're doing.

She grumbled and held her head. "Come home, Deathbringer," she said softly to herself, hoping that maybe it would do something. "Come home, so I can stop worrying so much."

She wasn't surprised when she got no response, knowing he had no way of listening, but she still wished he could have shown up anyway.

Glory climbed down from the tree she'd come to rest on, landing on the muddy ground with a soft splash, then began walking along the path like before, her scales slowly shifting to a deep grey-blue. Nothing happened for a short while, but only a few minutes passed before she heard someone landing nearby, accompanied by a familiar cheery voice.

"Hey there, Your Majesty," said Jambu, just as happy as ever as he trotted up beside her. "I thought you would be inside, not out here in the rain."

"I've told you that you can just call me Glory," she responded.

"I know, but it's fun to say 'Your Majesty,' especially since you're my sister," he said back, his cheer staying strong. He then noticed the color of her scales and looked a little concerned. "You alright?"

She nodded, pushing the blue down and forcing her normal colors. "I'm fine, there's nothing to worry about."

Jambu hummed. "That must be why you're walking through the rainforest by yourself, moping in the rain," he said, a hint of sarcasm present despite the fact that he was honestly a little worried.

She hesitated a moment, then sighed, knowing he had a point. "I'm worried, Jambu."

The pink RainWing nodded. "It's Deathbringer, isn't it?"

Glory whipped her head around to look up at him, confused. "How did you…"

Jambu smiled. "Well, you two are practically inseparable. Anyone can see that you started acting like this after he left, it's just that nobody has mentioned it."

She didn't say anything for a few seconds, then frowned. "Is it really that obvious?"

He nodded. "Maybe not to you, since you grew up away from the rainforest, but the rest of us RainWings are used to reading each other's emotions. Even yours."

She lowered her gaze to the ground, then looked ahead. "I hadn't thought about that."

Jambu chuckled, lightly bumping Glory with his hip. "Clearly not."

She gave a slight roll of her eyes, whacking him with her tail, but he only laughed. After several seconds of silence, she spoke again. "Do you think he's alright?"

The larger RainWing nodded. "I'm sure he's just fine. He probably just fell asleep too long somewhere and didn't realize he was gone so long," he said half-jokingly.

Glory looked up at him, raising a brow. "You mean to tell me that he fell asleep for two weeks?"

"Definitely," Jambu replied with a grin.

"You're unbelievable," she said, and he laughed. Glory couldn't help but chuckle a bit herself, and when she did, Jambu nudged her with his wing.

"It's good to hear you laugh again, even if it's only a little bit," he said sincerely.

The RainWing queen opened her mouth to give a remark, but slowly closed it back up when she realized that she couldn't remember any times she'd laughed since Deathbringer had been gone. Even her smiles were forced in most cases, given to try and convince those around her that she was alright. After that realization, she wasn't quite sure what to say, so only looked forward.

Jambu smiled down at her, even though she couldn't see it. "You should stop worrying so much, Glory. I know he'll be back soon."

Glory looked up at her brother. It felt so odd, hearing him refer to her by name when he'd called her 'Your Majesty' for so long, but...she couldn't help but smile. He drove her nuts sometimes, but she was glad he was there to help her when she needed him.

"Thanks, Jambu," she said, causing his smile to grow wider.

"Can't let you handle everything on your own, now can I?"

She gave a little huff, shaking her head. "Well whatever your reasoning is, I appreciate the support."

Jambu's response was to grab her and hug her, grinning like a big idiot.

She wasn't expecting it, and instinctively tried to pull away, but when she realized what he was doing, she slowly relaxed, leaning into the embrace.

"Man, if that's your reaction, I haven't done this enough," he said, both sarcastic and serious.

Glory stayed silent, realizing that she really hadn't gotten many hugs throughout her life, at least compared to others. She shut her eyes, exhaling, and decided to just enjoy the hug while it lasted.

It was a few minutes before Jambu released his sister, still smiling, but it wasn't quite as big and dumb as before, it was more sincere.

"You feel better now?" Jambu asked as she looked at him.

"Yeah. I feel a little better," she replied, smiling a bit herself.

"Good," he said, then stood up. "Now, I should probably get going before the students start trying to find me, I told them I would be right back."

Glory was dumbfounded. "You came down here to talk to me in the middle of teaching a class?"

"Uh...maybe?" He scratched the back of his head, shrugging a bit sheepishly.

"Jambu! Go get back there, you can't just leave a class like that!" Glory yelled, pushing him away. "Go on, get going!"

He laughed, turning and flying toward the school. "See you later, Your Majesty!" he shouted as he flew off.

Glory shook her head, watching him fly off. "Absolutely unbelievable."

When he was out of her line of sight, she turned and continued her walk. She was still worried, but her brother had helped ease her fears a bit. She wandered for a while, Jambu's words echoing in her head.

"I know he'll be back soon."

She soon changed course when she realized where she was, heading toward the nearby stream. Upon arriving, Glory sat down on the bank, looking into the water.

"At times like this I can't help but think about what it might be like if I'd never met you, Deathbringer," she said quietly to herself, following the sentence up with a chuckle. "It would probably be a lot less noisy."

"Wow, I knew you loved to insult me, but doing it while I'm gone? Now that's harsh."

Glory whipped around, baring her fangs, but the moment she saw who stood behind her, her eyes went wide. "Deathbringer?"

The ex-assassin gave a sly smile, approaching her casually. "In the flesh."

She was shocked to see him just appear like that, but her relief quickly overpowered that, and she punched him in the shoulder the moment he was close enough.

Deathbringer acted hurt, holding his shoulder. "Seems someone needs more suntime," he said sarcastically, swishing his tail about.

"I was worried sick, Deathbringer," she said, looking up at him with a sigh. "Would it have killed you to send a letter?"

"Maybe it would have," he said, retaining his sarcastic tone from before as he sat neatly in front of her. "Any reason you're out here in the rain? I was expecting to see you at the house."

She shook her head at his lack of seriousness, lightly shoving him. "I came out here because I haven't been able to think straight since you left."

"I always knew I was irresistible," Deathbringer said with a grin.

"You're insufferable," Glory shot back. "Absolutely insufferable."

The NightWing let out a sound like a purr, amused. "Yet here you are, loving me anyway."

The RainWing queen huffed, a few of her scales flashing a crimson. "And here you are, driving me crazy."

Deathbringer reached around and wrapped an arm around Glory, pulling her against his chest with a smile. "I get away with it, don't I?"

She grabbed his wrist instinctively, then rolled her eyes and looked up at him. "You wouldn't shut up if I asked nicely."

He patted her side with his free paw, then suddenly snapped to attention. "Ah, I almost forgot. There was a reason I was gone so long, you know. I wasn't doing it just to worry you."

She raised a brow. "And what is that reason?"

He smiled again, releasing her, then got up and nodded his head in the direction of their home. "Follow me."

Glory rose to her feet and followed the NightWing as he walked, her mind full of thoughts about what might have kept him from her so long. Neither of them spoke on their walk back, Glory pondering and Deathbringer smiling.

When they neared their home, Deathbringer spread his wings and flew up to the platform, quickly vanishing into the darkness through the door. Glory snapped out of her thoughts as he suddenly moved, following him up and inside moments later.

Initially, the NightWing stood in the center of the dark room, blending into the shadows, but as the RainWing entered, he gracefully turned and faced her.

Glory tilted her head, walking toward him and sitting down. "You brought me all the way here without explaining anything, I'd like to avoid waiting any longer," she said impatiently, wanting to know what kept him at Jade Mountain for two whole weeks.

Deathbringer responded by shifting closer and looping an arm around her back, pressing his chest to hers and leaning close. It caused her to fall back, her scales being invaded by bubbles of crimson. Her fall left him to hold her up, just as he'd planned.

"I love you, Glory, queen of the RainWings, and I have a question for you," he said softly, leaning his head close to hers.

Glory was caught off guard by his sudden movements, but wasn't quite against them. The crimson in her scales only grew more noticeable as he continued, and she raised a brow. "Well...let's hear it then, I've already waited two weeks," she said in response, trying to play off her embarrassment with joking. She really hadn't expected something like this.

Deathbringer locked his eyes with Glory's. "Would you do me the honor of marrying me?"

The RainWing's eyes went wide with shock, her jaw falling open. Of all the things she'd imagined, this never came up, and she was far from prepared to have it suddenly dropped on her, even with the hints he'd been giving since entering the house. She'd expected him asking for a child, or something else of the like, but marriage hadn't come to mind.

The NightWing softly chuckled, lightly tracing his free paw up and down her side. "Take your time. I already had to wait a week to ask, I can wait a little longer."

It took Glory a moment to register what he said, though when she did, she looked up and locked her eyes with his. He raised a brow, awaiting her response, which she soon gave.

"Yes," she said softly. "Yes, I will marry you, Deathbringer."

Inside, the NightWing was overjoyed, but he didn't let it show. Instead, he leaned down and kissed her, pulling her closer against himself.

She shut her eyes and lightly pressed into the kiss, resting a paw on his chest. For once, she was far from object to all the contact.

It was a short while before Deathbringer pulled his head back, looking down at her with a soft smile. She opened her eyes and looked back, and after a few moments, he slowly lowered her to the ground so she could get back into a normal position.

Glory rolled over and rose to her feet, smiling a bit herself. Then, she raised a brow. "I'm far from against all this, but why did it take so long for you to ask? You're far from lacking in confidence," she said truthfully, but keeping a mildly playful tone.

"Ah, that's right," he replied, turning and walking over to Glory's desk. "That's not why I took so long. This is." He turned back toward her, holding a necklace. It was a silver chain with a small, stylized golden sun pendant hanging from it. The sun had curves and waves almost like water, and had lots of intricate little carvings that complimented those shapes.

Glory was surprised as she slowly approached, inspecting the piece of jewelry closely. She gently took it from him, holding the little sun in her paws. It was smaller than her palm, but not by a lot.

"You...got this for me?" Glory asked, looking up at Deathbringer, who sat in front of her with a soft chuckle.

"One of the students at the school, being young and curious, asked if I wanted to marry anyone during one of our conversations. I said I did, and that evolved into that student and her...entire friend group talking me into proposing and getting you a gift," he explained, then gestured to the necklace. "When I told them I didn't know what I'd get you, they suggested a necklace. That night I went and found a jeweller in Possibility, and he agreed to make the necklace if I could get him the materials. So, I spent the next few nights searching, until I finally got the materials he needed."

"This sounds a little far-fetched," Glory interjected as he took a breath.

"Oh trust me, I know it does," the NightWing replied nonchalantly. "Anyway, continuing. After I got the materials, I brought them back to the jeweller, and he told me he'd have it done in a few days minimum. After about a week, he finally finished. By then I wasn't needed at Jade Mountain anymore, so I stayed in Possibility while I waited. I got the necklace, then came home, and you know the rest."

The RainWing hummed in thought, looking down at the piece of jewelry in her paws. "Did you at least sleep while you were doing all this? I don't need you sleeping all day."

"Ironic, coming from the queen of the RainWings," he teased, purposely avoiding the question.

"You wouldn't be a very good bodyguard if you weren't awake to protect me," she shot back lightly, lifting the necklace over her head and putting it on.

Deathbringer feigned insult, holding a paw to his chest. "I'm hurt, Glory. You agree to marry me and you still call me your bodyguard."

"Yes, because you're still my bodyguard. You're just a more glorified bodyguard now," Glory said, smiling slyly up at him.

He shook his head, chuckling. "You could have at least said 'I love you too.'"

She brushed past him, tracing her tail up his neck teasingly as she walked over to her bed, seeing that the sun had gone down. "I'll leave you waiting for a while. That way you can feel a little of what I did while you were gone."

He laughed, walking over and laying beside her. "I'll be waiting, then."

She looked up at him, giving a small smile before kissing him on the cheek. Deathbringer looped an arm around the back of Glory's neck, pulling her close, and he draped a wing over her back as he rested his head down on the bed.

She relaxed, resting her head gently against his neck as she closed her eyes.

"I love you, Glory," Deathbringer whispered into her ear, loosely twining his tail with hers. "Sleep well."

She couldn't help but smile. Even though he drove her crazy sometimes, he was well worth the trouble.

Glory felt that the day had turned out pretty well in the end. Not only had Deathbringer come home in one piece, he'd made the long wait entirely worth it. When she thought about it, she realized that it wasn't the first time he'd done something so big for her.

I think I've got the perfect thing to pay him back for everything he's done for me, she thought with another smile, then gave into the pull of unconsciousness, falling into a long, peaceful slumber, tucked close to her new husband. She couldn't have been happier if she tried.

Before you even say it, I know it had a really cheesy ending but I couldn't help myself, alright? It's Glory and Deathbringer, they're amazing. Anyway, I wasn't sure this would even work, because last times I tried uploading something, the website ate my formatting, so I tried a different method this time. Anyway×2, I'd appreciate it if you guys could leave some reviews so I know how I did. I've been writing for about 5 years, but I've never posted any of my stories before. This is also my first time writing any canon characters, and I want to know if I did them justice because I have a few big WoF fics in the works. Also no, I have no idea if I did these author's notes sections right, I have zero experience.
