Snow watched carefully as Emma lead the man through the streets towards the station. A thought occurred to her.

"You seemed awfully certain from the start that this was a case of domestic abuse. What made you so certain?" Snow asked her. Emma shrugged.

"I've had enough exposure to couples like that to know what abuse looks like. Sometimes it was the man, and sometimes it was the woman. I remember this one woman in Raleigh in North Carolina. She was just vile to her husband. Made him feel like a piece of dirt she'd flung off her shoe. I know the signs to look out for. This jerk hit them all."

"Watch your tone." The man spat. Emma just rolled her eyes. She wasn't taking orders from a jerk like him.

Emma marched him up to the doorway of the station.

"Can you hold onto him for a second mom?" Emma asked. "I need to open the door." Snow nodded, moving in to hold the man's arm to keep him steady as Emma got her keys out and began to unlock the door.

Suddenly, the man decided to use the small window of opportunity whilst only one of the women's eyes were on him to escape. He suddenly twisted and booted his foot into the back of Snow's knee. She fell to the ground, her leg making a sickening crunching sound as she fell. He didn't hesitate before he ran, still handcuffed. Emma didn't know what to do. What had just happened?!

"Mom!" She called out, getting to the ground beside her mom. "Are you alright?"

"Not really." Snow said through gritted teeth, the pain almost unbearable. "He's broken my leg." Snow explained. Emma pulled out her phone to call for an ambulance, only to realise it had ran out of battery.

"My phone's dead. I'm getting yours to call an ambulance." Emma explained as she reached into her mom's bag and got her phone out. She quickly dialled the ambulance and then her eyes went towards the alleyway the man had run down. Snow could see her looking.

"Emma Swan don't you dare." She snapped. She knew exactly what Emma was thinking. Emma looked back at her mom apologetically. She whipped off her leather jacket and draped it over her mom to keep her warm.

"The ambulance will be here in five minutes tops. They know where you are. You'll be fine."

"Emma you can't just leave me here-"

"You'll be fine mom!" Emma called back as she sprinted off. "Call dad, he'll come with you to the hospital!"

"How can I call your dad?!" Snow called after her, but Emma was out of earshot by then. "You still have my phone." Snow grumbled as she sat back against the wall, her leg pounding. But she couldn't focus on the pain in her leg right now. She couldn't even focus on the fact that if the ambulance couldn't find her she was screwed. All she could focus on was the fact that her daughter had suddenly sprinted down an alleyway after a vicious, nasty little man. Who knew what Emma had let herself in for, and worse, what she'd let herself in for alone.

Emma's timing was just about bang on. Five minutes later, an ambulance pulled up in front of the station to collect Snow.

"Do one of you have a phone?!" She asked urgently. "I need to call my husband and I don't have my phone on me."

"Sorry ma'am, but we're not allowed cells with us in the ambulance. We'll radio ahead to the hospital and have him meet us there…"

"I'm not worried about me or my leg, it's our daughter I'm worried about!" Snow snapped. The paramedics looked slightly taken aback. Was someone else injured. Snow sighed.

"Please radio ahead and have him meet us at the hospital. I'll explain to him what's going on before they deal with my leg. Someone has to be able to help our daughter."

It didn't take Emma too long to find the creep again. Of course he'd try and go home. Didn't he realise that'd be the first place Emma would look?! Not that Emma minded it being easy right now. Especially when she didn't know what was happening with her mom. That was just another reason to be furious with this asshole.

Emma was able to overpower him again, especially since he still had his cuffs on. She then once again escorted him back to the station…where her father was standing outside. He did not look happy.

"Dad?" Emma asked. "What are you doing here? You should be with mom! Don't you know about her leg…"

"I know everything, Emma. I know what this a-grade bastard did to your mother and I know you were silly enough to leave her alone and wounded and put yourself at risk to chase him down. So here's what's going to happen. You're not going to spend another second with someone who's capable of doing what he did to your mother. Then we're driving up to the hospital where you will apologise to your mom when she wakes up from surgery. Clear?"

"Clear." Emma said quietly, handing over the man to Charming. He smirked back at Emma, smug at seeing her being told off. Charming spotted this and shoved him forcefully towards his cell.

"I don't know what you've got to smile about pal. First you abuse your own wife and then you break my wife's leg. You aren't getting out of here for a long time, and the menu is pretty scarce." Charming slammed the cell door shut in face before making sure the door was locked. He would personally make sure this bozo didn't get released for as long as possible.

It was then a long wait for both Charming and Emma as they waited for Snow to wake after her surgery. When they were finally allowed to go in and see her, Emma felt her mouth dry up. What was she going to say? She scuttled in behind her dad, but her mom of course still saw her.

"So I see you weren't killed after running after the maniac?" Snow asked sarcastically, her voice hoarse. Emma looked down at her feet, ashamed.

"I'm sorry for leaving you." Emma said quietly. "I know that I shouldn't have, especially since I was stupid enough to take your phone."

"It wasn't your best moment, I'll give you that." Snow agreed. "But I'm just glad you're safe. Promise me you'll never pull a stunt like that again." Emma nodded. "Good." Charming came over and made sure Snow was comfortable.

"Now that our troublemaker has been sorted out, you need to look after yourself." He gently reminded her. "You've just had a major operation. Get some rest." Snow's eyes were closing again, but they fluttered back up to Emma momentarily. Charming chuckled, knowing what she was saying. "Yes, I'll watch her and Neal. He's safe with Granny and Henry right now whilst Regina gets that poor woman settled in. Sleep Snow." Snow didn't need any more encouraging. She was out like a light. Charming then smiled over at Emma, who was still looking rather sheepish.

"Come on you." He whispered as she got up and wrapped an arm around Emma. "Let's give her time to rest. We'll go check on that brother of yours." Emma nodded, but did give a fleeting look back at her mom. Charming smiled. He knew what both his girls' looks meant. "She's not mad at you." He promised her as they left her room. Emma relaxed a little after that, but Charming wasn't entirely upset with Emma's slight emotional distress. Maybe that would stop her from making similar decisions in the future.
