A/N: This is my first fanfic. I never thought i would make a fanfic, let alone a love story but hey, whatever. In this fanfic takes place some time between the episodes "Frost and Fire" and "Earth and Water".
A/N: Some chapters are being re-written.
A few weeks had passed since Finn had broken up with Flame Princess, and none of Finn's attempts to move on were working.
For whatever reason, Jake thought it was a good idea to go to the movies. Unfortunately, Flame Princess was there, as well as her "suitor", Ignis, who wasn't much more than a friend.
Finn could feel himself being filled with feelings of dejection, jealousy, and regret. He had got up towards the end of the movie (the hero gets the girl) to get some air.
Out in the lobby, Finn leaned against the wall and sighed. He could feel his chest tighten as his heartbeat increased.
He heard crying coming from an old janitor's closet. He opened the door to find a humanoid composed of water. It was a princess, evident from her royal attire and the gem on her forehead. Her long hair flowed downward.
Finn had never seen her before. He was going to ask what was troubling the young girl, but she had noticed the light streaming into the room from the hallway.
"Who's there?" she asked.
"Um, I'm Finn. Are you ok?"
"Do I look ok?"
"Sorry. What happened?"
"My suitor has left me for someone else. I didn't get to see him until a few minutes ago, so he couldn't tell me before."
"Oh," Finn said, having learned the meaning of the word from Princess Bubblegum.
He crouched down, putting a hand on her shoulder.
"Hey, it's not all bad. It can suck, trust me, I know. I felt that way. I still do. But, you should just think about all the good things."
"Good things?"
"Yeah, like friends and stuff. I don't know, I'm not that good at cheering people up. But just keep walking, and you'll meet someone else eventually. At least, that's what I like to think."
Finn reflected on his own words. He vowed to focus on himself and his own direction in life.
The princess thought about her own life. Her courtship had been arranged. She wondered if another would be. She wondered if she even wanted another.
"Thank you Finn. That actually does make me feel a little better."
"Hey, no problem. Just doing my job as a hero."
"That's right. You're that hero everyone talks about. Finn the Human..."
"That's me. Well, the movie's almost over. I should get going."
"Wait..."
The princess looked at him with a strange curiosity. She shook her head.
"Nevermind. Goodbye, I guess."
Finn had exited the closet just in time to see Jake exiting the theatre room, along with Flame Princess and her suitor.
Jake seemed to notice that Finn had a thoughtful smile on his face, as if he had just relieved stress.
"You look better," Jake said. "Where did you go?"
"I had a stepped out for some air, that's all. I just realized something."
Jake seemed skeptical, but he didn't know how true Finn's statement was.
"We should get home," Jake stated, and headed outside. Finn followed, and they went back to the treehouse.
"So," Jake asked. "What's the full story?"
"I'll tell you later."
Back in the Water Kingdom, Water Princess could still here Finn's words. Were they deeper than an excuse? Was it true that she'd find someone who really appreciated her for who she was? Did she even appreciate her former suitor? Was her crying meaningless?
For the first time, she'd take charge of her life. She didn't know why, but she knew that Finn was supposed to be an important figure in her life.
She'd go out and find her own friends. And maybe, she'd even find someone she really cared for.
She asked some of her servants what they knew about Finn the Human, the famed hero of Ooo.
The told her of some of his more famous exploits. He had saved the Candy Kingdom several times and had won the hearts of many princesses (except, ironically, Princess Bubblegum).
She asked them if they knew where he lived. They informed her that Finn resided in a treehouse in the Grasslands.
The young princess requested that she be escorted to the treehouse the next morning, to which the servants assured her that they would.
Water Princess fell asleep, wondering what was to be in store for her life next. As she fell asleep, she heard the shriek of an owl and an image of Finn flashed in her mind.
Early the next morning, Water Princess rode out in a carriage to the Treehouse, escorted by two of her servants.
She knocked on the door, expecting young adventurer to answer. Instead, she was greeted by a yellow, bipedal dog.
