Finn sat next to Water Princess on a small hill. He looked down at the hand she was currently grabbing, his metal one. He missed his flesh hand. He knew he was coming of as a bit distant, but he had a lot on his mind.
Ice King had not been seen since he had flew off with Scorcher. Where he was, no one knew. What of the kingdoms that had been destroyed? But the main thing on his mind was Flame Princess. It had been a couple of weeks since the incident.
She was currently quarantined in a lab under the (destroyed) Candy Kingdom. It was among the few places in the kingdom unaffected by the fire. She was still... affected by the evil she took in. At least once a day Finn thought of her. Water Princess knew that, of course. They were about to head over to the lab after their meal on top of the hill.
They arrived at the Candy Kingdom, which was currently under construction. They knocked on the door to the lab. They were let in by Princess Bubblegum.
"Anything?" Finn asked.
"Not yet," Princess Bubblegum responded. "I'm still analyzing her. It's taking longer than I thought to find a cure, if there is one." She said the last part quieter.
Water Princess squeezed Finn's hand. She looked at him with a half-hopeful, half-uneasy smile.
"Thanks," Finn said. He looked over at Flame Princess. She still burned a green color. She looked back with an odd curiosity, the same look she had given Water Princess.
["Hahahahaha!" Flame Princess laughed all the while. Then, abruptly, she turned her head, as if in curiosity. "Would you like to hear the secrets too?"]
She reached out to touch the fire-proof glass seperating her from the others in the room. She seemed to calm at the sight of Finn, then her body sputtered and flickered, like she was shivering.
"She'll be okay, Finn," said Water Princess. She took Finn's face in her hands and turned toward hers. She kissed him.
No one expected the violent twitching from Flame Princess at the sight presented to her. The green light in her eyes gre smaller, and she now burned a yellow color.
"Aahhhh!"
She went out, only to reignite. She now burned her familiar red-orange color, but a dim green light still eminated from her eyes. She looked at the three speechless people.
"Finn..."
It was just a word, but it had her familiar soft tone to it, not the cold tone from before. She looked over at Water Princess briefly before turning to Bubblegum.
"Let me out," she told her. "I'm ok now."
"Are you crazy?" That was the only response.
"Trust me, I can control it." The green light from her eyes grew so dim it was almost imperceptible.
"It's ok, Bubblegum." The reassurance came from Finn. He couldn't stand to see his friend locked up any longer.
Bubblegum sighed. Why she was doing it, she didn't know, but she opened the lock to the wasn't sure what she was expecting, but Flame Princess exited calmly. She looked at Finn.
She seemed to be frustrated. She just pushed past him and out of the lab. Finn knew what she was feeling. He felt it, too. Things were going to get complicated, and he would be at the center.
The couple went back to the Treehouse. Jake was on the couch. With one "hand", he held B-MO's controller and was pressing buttons. With his other "hand", he held a bowl of ice cream. Finn stood in the doorway.
"See you. Be safe, ok?" he told Water Princess. She nodded. He waved and closed the door, sighed, and headed to the couch.
Jake paused the game and got off the couch. He went to the kitchen, coming out later with a plate of lasagna. He handed it to Finn before going back to his game. Finn ate and watched in silence, knowing that something was coming. He wasn't sure how it was going to turn out, but he braced himself.
As Finn went to sleep, he saw visions of gentle waves of water and a calm sky. Wait? Waves...
Finn opened his eyes, feeling the dark essence of fear gripping him. The ocean...
