Purgatory

The twins ran as fast as they could to the Tree of Ages, hoping they could get there before it was too late. The downside to being the offspring of the greatest demon ever sired, is that his own offspring stood powerless against him and his abilities. Setsuna and Towa knew where their father was headed the minute he flew away from Kirinmaru's scattered ashes. Now the twins were racing against time not to catch up to the dream butterfly, but to catch a glimpse of their mother. For they knew that while Setsuna would be soon getting her memories and dreams back, they could once again lose their mother.
And they were right.
By the time they got close enough to see the vast branches of the tree, their father's figure was hunched over a pale human body. A hand as pale as Sesshomaru's own marble was reaching for his jaw disappearing behind the silvery mane. It was silent but for the wind, though not silent enough for him not to hear the intruders. For anyone but the female in his arms, counted as one. An intruder.
While the female in his arms turned her head, Sesshomaru leaped into the air flying away with Rin who only caught a glimpse of the twins obscured by her husband's furs and the tears in her eyes.
Setsuna could only watch as her great father's figure disappeared in the darkening sky. Purple wings of the dream butterfly now settled on her shoulder – forgotten memories waiting to be returned instead of sustaining the life of her mother. As the quest for lost memories and a cure for sleepless nights concluded, another began with their father once again steeling something away from his daughters. Only Sesshomaru knew where and for how long as Jaken was left standing next to his two young wards.
He knew that he would breed her again tonight.
Now in his yokai form the great white dog and the new Lord of the Western Lands waited. Watching the water in the hot spring just outside the cave he brought his wife to, he waited for her to speak, to pretend as if they were no different from before. His lands waited for him – for them, with Kirinmaru no longer a threat and the seat as the Head of the House guarded by his mother. His daughters waited for her – for them, now understanding that their father fought not only to defeat a foe as great as the great Toga himself at the lowest cost possible to his family, but also in order to find a way to preserve the life of his mortal mate. He was becoming so alike his father in the strangest of ways.
Sesshomaru knew all this, yet he had no intention of returning or returning her. Not yet. He asked what her sentence was for him and his crimes against her, knowing that he wanted to punish her in return for making him wait fifteen years and agonise over the hubris she made him commit – to count in human years. He knew it was unfair and dishonourable, for he was the one to arrange her imprisonment and separation from their pups. Sesshomaru did not care. He was carrying a weight of agony. An agony foreign to him until she showed up in his life, loving him as a woman would a man, worshipping him as a priestess would her god. The least she could do was speak.
Still, his wife remained silent. His beast, the beast he was now, yearned for her. It yearned for not only her spirit but also her body. For fifteen years he had looked at her beautiful legs, her budding breasts, her lips, … her neck teasing and torturing him with their beauty and with memories of making love to his young bride. It was not shameful for a husband to desire his wife. But it was shameful for any male to lust after a female as he did her. And, to have the spirit of the Tree of Ages smelling the stench of his desire. The least she could do was to offer him the comfort of her body now. For he knew that he would breed her again tonight.
The beast could not linger by the cave opening any longer. The white dog trotted closer to its mate, head still bent down, following her scent into the darkness.
He did not need to disrobe.
He mounted her in his yokai form, howling into the depths of their cave. In the darkness of the cave cries of anguish and love could be heard as he finally made her moan on all fours clutching the hard stone underneath her bruised knees and scraped hands. While fucking her again, this time as a man, he was no less brutal.
"Is silence your choice of purgatory for me and my crimes, Rin?"
He looked unto her ravaged body lying on his furs. Her blood and his seed stained the whiteness of the fur, bruises stained the whiteness of her skin. Soon he would give her the seven rainbow pearls and turn her, heal her, make her hold her promise and stay with him forever. But not yet.
Rin reached for him as he met her gaze but no sound escaped her lips because she could not find the right words to express her unconditional love and trust. Instead she pressed her lips to his as he pressed his hips to hers, finally uttering the name of her lord, lover and master: "Sesshomaru-sama".

When the twins finally saw their mother again, her eyes were no longer human. No part of Rin's body was touching her husband's, but everything about them spoke of an intimacy that nobody would be privy to but the two of them. As evidenced by the fullness of her stomach filled with another litter of pups bestowed upon Rin by her Lord. The twins no longer wondered how they came to be in this world.
