Hi, my name's Mak, and I love the Hunger Games. So I thought it would be fun write a fan fictional story. Enjoy

Chapter 1

I wake up to the sound of Lyla telling me to wake up. My eyes become droopy, the last thought I could think of was finding a way to get back at her.

"Thinking of your family again?" Lyla asks

I hate her because she knows how I think. The fact is that I was thinking of my family, I still am. It's been too long since I've seen them. Every morning I always see them in the back of my mind.

"It'll be ok Willow." She says in her passionate tone trying to make me feel better.

"Just get dressed, and come downstairs for breakfast."

After five minutes of laying on my bed, I decided to finally get dressed. When I get downstairs everybody's already there. My uncle Jack is on the phone talking to his coworker (Like he does every morning) My Aunt Grace is making breakfast.

"Morning Willow," She says in her very sweet and gentle voice. "Want some breakfast?"

Without saying anything I pick up a banana from the counter and scurry off to the other room. I sit on the couch and look out the window wondering if my family is ok. The big Ocean separates me from my family. With no notice, my Aunt Grace comes in trying to soothe me and help me. She gives me the pep-talk and tells me that…

My mother and father were only trying to protect me, And

How everything is going to be fine.

My Aunt grace is somehow related to my mom saying they were sisters, but my mom never mentioned having an older sister. I don't even remember my mom letting me know I had an Aunt who died. I would always listen-in on my mom and dad's conversation. It was always something about Lost children, Mutts, some sort of Hunger Games (whatever that is) My mom would scream out to her dad, but what would always confuse me is she would always call out to a girl named Prim. Whenever I ask about why my mom is always screaming at night

or crying, my dad would always shoo me away, trying to conceal my knowings, Whatever that means.

Two years ago When I asked My Aunt Grace how she knows my mom, she told me the story of how she lived in a place called Panem, and that she would always take care of my mom and this girl named Prim, who I know nothing about. She explained that her friend Ellie Day got called at the reaping. I don't know what a "Reaping is" but I do know Ellie Day. She comes by with her daughter Hope who's just a few years younger than me and Lyla. Eillie has long yellow pastel color type hair with emerald green eyes, I don't know what goes with banana colored hair and emerald green eyes, but she makes it work. My Aunt Grace said she volunteered for Ellie and her boyfriend, (My Uncle) Jack was reaped to. She said that in the games her friends, Jack, This lady named Leilani, Flashy Klau, and her were finding a way to get out of the games, during the games. She said that they summoned something to take them out of the games. This sort of Magic engulfed a lot of people out of this Panem place. My Aunt Grace explained that she couldn't take my mother because she will be needed, and she thought my mom would be fine since she had her dad. Little did she know that a couple of weeks later, their dad died in some sort of mining accident. Grace and my mom were very close back when my mom knew she existed, but after the whole magic thing that happened to wipe out a big chunk of people from Panem, but not a lot, my mom had no clue she had an older sister. I never knew my Aunt Prim, but I did get to Know Grace.

I walked back to my room and stopped at the doorway looking around. The last note from my mom and dad was sitting on my Desk, It reads…

Dear Willow,

I know it's been a long since your father and I have seen you, but we want you to know that we love you, very much. Somewhere in the future, we'll be together, you, your father, Rye, and I. We'll find a way. I hope you're not upset with how we left things over the phone, We had no other choice. Your father has been very said these last two

Years. Haymitch went back to drinking Again, Your father and I tried to explain to him that it wasn't his fault, but he exclaims that he was your Godfather and he couldn't even make sure we were still all together. Your father can't even look at a cake without thinking of you. His last few paintings were very blurry, because they were paintings of you, and barely knows what you look like now, he only knows the pictures with you when you were younger. We all miss you and we all love you.

Love,

Mom.

The Capitol's been trying to stop letters, notes, or phone calls, to the outside world and the districts. They would always take the letters and burn them, but this letter from my mom was able to get to me, she sent a few pictures of them together, my dad painting very sadly, Haymitch Crying and drinking. (Not a good sight to see.) My brother….. My brother…?

I don't know what he is doing, but I don't think I want to know. On my nightstand I see the last picture I ever took with my dad, I'm In a really cute flowery dress, with dandelions in my hair, My dad in a white suit with a red rose. My dad and I were sprinkled in the flour we would use for baking. He was covered with chocolate frosting. He and I were baking in our nice clothes and kind of getting them dirty. It was worth seeing the look on Effie's face when we went outside to take our picture. Her mouth completely dropped and my dad and I couldn't stop laughing, It was one of the greatest days ever. I looked to my left and my uncle was standing there, I jumped back about to hit him with my pillow. He walked over examining the picture of me and my dad.

"You know Me and Lyla have a picture kind of like that," He says trying to hide his smile.

I've seen that picture with him and Lyla, They "were" Dressed in white, but before they took their picture, they decided to mess with their designer or "guide" and roll around in the mud. The picture is them with their outfits in white (with mud on the nice white suit and dress), on the floor laughing and pointing at…. I think her name is Cassandra? CARTHA. Her name is Cartha, but they call her Cart Art, I'm not sure why, but uncle Jack said when Lyla was little she would nick-name Cartha, Cart Art. Somehow it stuck around. Uncle Jack was always a softie, he reminds me of my dad, Which is probably why I have trouble looking at him. He's not much of a baker, but he has a good eye for things like art or structures. Grace and Jack have two kids, Lyla, she's like one year older than me, she has long hair, The top part is a dark brown then it goes to a bright purple and the tips of her hair are white. Their son is a few years younger than my brother, his name is Raymond, but they call him Ray.

"Come on Wilow," Lyla says, yelling from downstairs. "Let's get to school,"

She sounded annoyed, I guess that- "Sandie is doing the weird thing again."

Sandie is a Golden retriever and is sometimes a very smart dog, but not all the time. Sandie would try to butt-scoot across the room, and dose other weird things that I do not want to name. When I get my backpack and start leaving my room, Uncle jack gives out a big sigh. I turn around and make eye contact with him, he gives me the expression, of why did he get that dog? I don't blame him, that dog is a bit odd. I run downstairs seeing Lyla look miserably at Sandie. Lyla desperately wanted a boy collie, but Ray wanted Sandie. A few years ago, Ray had a few mental problems no one knew if he would survive it was a scary time for them. In the end, Ray fought through it and said he wanted a dog to help him re-learn everything. Ray felt alone and wanted Sandie so he would have a best friend.

Lyla and I walked to the bus station, on the other side, we see Grace, Tyler, and Hope coming over. Grace and Hope are close cousins, Grace and I are the same age, Golden-brown Hair, and she always has white daisies in her hair. She was named after my Aunt who saved her old friend Ellie's life. Hope is a year younger than my brother, he's 13, and Hope is 12. Hope has Golden hair with shades of white and her tips are a teal color that matches her big bright eyes.

Tyler and I have been dating for a few months now, he was in the hunger games last year and was announced as Victor. The Hunger Games here in summerset are nothing like the Hunger games back home in Panem. The government here found a way to keep people alive so they won't have to worry about dying. The games use to be called the Amythest games, but it didn't stick around. Over the years the Gamemakers have found different ways to make the games fun for the tributes. All the districts enjoy the Hunger Games, It became an actual reality show. Since the terrible event that happened Hundred years ago, The capital involved their children. Which actually made it more exciting, not only do we get the 26 tributes from the 13 districts, but we get two more kids from the Capital, which makes it 28 tributes in all. It's nice to know that the capital here wants to get involved.

"Let me guess, Tyler tried to scare you again?" Lyla said when we walked toward the three of them.

"Oh know it," Grace says with an annoyed tone.

"Tyler when are you going to give up?" Lyla says with a long sigh. " You ruined the frights for Grace, so give it up."

Hope lets out a little giggle, pointing at Tyler.

"Ever since he became a Victor, Tyler thinks nothing can stop him." I blurt out walking towards him with a grin on my face. He gives me a little butterfly kiss on my cheek. Hope starts blurting out laughing, and before we know it, we join her. After a few minutes, we stop, forgetting why we ended up laughing.

"Did you grandfather, tell you the story again?" Asks Lyla.

Every year, Grace and Hope's great-grandfather tells them the story of how he was a wee little lad when the world was starting to get devoured. It became a tradition of his. Sometimes when I go over to their house, he pulls me over to explain how the world disappeared. He would talk about how fortunate I was to escape the darkness of Panem. The people in Summerset said they explained how they were expecting the U.S to end up destroying itself.

"When is he not?' Grace says annoyed, wondering why we would ask a ridiculous question.

"You guys excited for Summer?" Tyler says with the biggest grin on his face.

"I know I am," Hope says about to jump up and down.

"You guys ready for the 274th Hunger Games?" Lyla asks.

In the 18' hundreds, they created the Hunger Games as a symbolization that Prince William, (The Founder) can not take the communal spirit out of the people of Summerset. They tried to find ways to keep the people alive there. Princess Amethyst was the girl who inspired them. She tried to be a warrior and protect her home, She wore a necklace that had a Mockingjay sitting on a branch with a snake slithering through it. She risked her life for her people, so they thought they should honor her noble sacrifice, someone wrote a song called, The Ballad of Songbirds and snakes, but now, they use it as a title for the two people who become warriors together to protect Summerset. They called them, The Mockingjay and the Baskialist. The Mockingjay was an unknown bird, In Panem, they believed its parents are the mockingbird and a mutated bird called a Jabberjay. Here in Summerset, they believe its parents are the Mockingbird and a Bluejay. It makes sense but still confusing. Oh and by the way, don't let the name Summerset confuse you with the place Summerset in the game Elderscrolls.

"Hey, should we rig this year's choosing?" Lyla asks

"Why?" Grace asks

"So Willow will be called." Lyla gets excited about everything.

"Why would you want me in the games, and wouldn't that be cheating?" I'm very confused with this conversation that's occurring.

"Umm, It would not be cheating, and it would be cute if you won," Overdramatically she says. How would it be cute, what's cute about it? "Willow would be chosen and win this year's game, so she would also be a victor, and the both of you would be victors together," she says pointing and Tyler and me. I know exactly what's about to come out of her mouth.

"Then you guys could be the star-crossed lovers." And there it was, she said it.

The only time I heard those words, was when I'd watched the Panem Hunger Games. I saw the year when my mom and dad were in those Games. My mom volunteered for her little sister, and my dad was called. After watching it, I fully understand why my mom would lose it sometimes. I still don't understand why my dad would go crazy, for one second he would be with me and my brother, then he would run into the office and my mom would follow. I would hear him yelling. It would scare me from time to time.

The Phone call, I got from my mom was the last time I heard her voice. It's sad to think about, but I always had Tyler Tyler is some sort of forming thing, he can turn into a bear. He's got really dark black/brown hair with fades of red. Him and I started dating when he got back from the games. We made a deal, but after we had our first date, I didn't think of it as a deal anymore. He was fun to be around, and if I'm being honest, he reminds me a lot of my dad. The gentle touch, the promises that Hope and faith is on my side. I feel safe with him, I feel relaxed like I don't have to be someone I'm not. We bring out the best in each other. We don't have everything in common, but we love to do things that the other one is into

The five of us just sit there waiting for the bus. Thirty minutes later and it's finally here. Only a few more weeks until the beginning of summer, and a few more weeks until the games.
