What lies behind her magic
Amelia asked for a oneshot of…a read and see story.
"I will only ask you one more time nicely." The impeccably dressed man said quietly as he paced up and down. He didn't ever give Emma eye contact, no matter how much she felt like her eyes must be drilling holes into the side of his head. "How does your magic work?"
"Ask me as many times as you want buddy. Ask me as nastily as you feel you have to. You don't get any answers from me until I know what you've done with the other people I arrived here with." Emma said with nerves of steel. She could practically feel his bodyguard flexing his muscles behind her. She wasn't scared of a beating. It wouldn't be the first time. Her head was still thumping from being electrocuted by the bodyguard anyway. The last thing Emma remembered was landing in this strange new land with her parents and Killian. They landed in a garden where they met the man who was asking Emma all these questions. He tried to attack them, but Emma was able to use her magic to fend him off. Before the group could find out where they were or who this guy was, his bodyguard zapped them all from behind. Then Emma woke up here, separated from the others. Apparently he had an interest in her magic.
"You mean your parents and your lover?" He said with an evil little smirk. Emma was unable to contain her surprise that he knew. He chuckled. "That's right. They weren't exactly quiet when they saw you were missing. My orderly here was able to inform me of the connections between you." Emma could have throttled the orderly. She definitely didn't want these people knowing she had an extreme emotional connection to the others. Now she would have to give away some answers, or else she'd risk putting her loved ones in danger.
"There really isn't that much I can tell you about my magic." She said honestly. "I'm the product of true love. Therefore, I have magic. That's it." Emma explained. This caught his attention. He finally gave Emma some eye contact. He then strode over to her and placed his hands on the arms of the chair she was tied to. Emma's heart was now pounding. She had the feeling this guy wasn't someone to be messed with.
"That's not enough." He hissed. Emma held her head as far away from him as she possibly could. "I need to know how. How did this true love manifest itself in such powerful magic?"
"I don't know." Emma answered honestly. "I can't tell you what I don't know. If you just let me talk to my parents then maybe…"
"Silence." The man barked. He raised his hand about to slap Emma, when the door burst open.
"Hyde!" Another man yelled. The man interrogating Emma suddenly stopped and looked up. Emma looked up as well. She was relieved to see her parents and Killian with this stranger, who was holding some kind of wand. Then Emma realised. Hyde. This was Mr Hyde. She had a sneaking suspicion she knew the name of the other man.
"How did you escape your cell, Jekyll?" Hyde hissed. Emma was right. This was Doctor Jekyll. They were real too?! Emma could tell that Jekyll was clearly frightened of Hyde (she couldn't blame him) but he was being brave enough to stand his ground. He flicked the wand slightly.
"I-I've known where you kept this for a while." Jekyll stammered. "I wasn't brave enough to go on my own to get it. But now I had help I took my chance. You're going to let the girl go, Hyde. Otherwise there will be consequences." Hyde sneered at Jekyll.
"You haven't got it in you." He goaded him. Jekyll then aimed the wand at the orderly and a blast shot out, hitting him in the leg. The orderly yelped and fell to the ground in pain. It was clear Jekyll was very proud of himself.
"I've wanted to do that for ages." He announced." He then aimed the wand back at Hyde. "You were saying?" Hyde's lips curled into a snarl. He stormed past the group, shoving Jekyll as he went and ran down the corridor. As soon as he was gone, Killian dragged the orderly out of the room as well whilst Snow and Charming untied Emma before embracing her, and checking she was ok.
"What was he doing to you?" Snow asked, concerned.
"Nothing." Emma replied. "He just wanted to know how I got my magic. You guys came in before he got stroppy about it. What about all of you?"
"He had us locked in the cell with the Doctor here." Charming explained. "He helped us escape and told us how to at least get Hyde to retreat for a while so we could find you."
"And try and find a way to escape." Killian added, coming back into the room. He too embraced Emma. "He didn't hurt you, did he luv?" Emma shook her head, squeezing him tightly to her. She felt her dad's reassuring hand on her back.
"You don't need to worry. We'll find a way out of here." He told her. Snow took Charming's hand and nodded.
"We've gotten ourselves out of worse situations." She pointed out. She then looked over to the Doctor. "Besides, we have insider who can help us." The Doctor gave a small, insecure smile. He wasn't sure he'd be of much use at all. He was terrified of Hyde and his orderly. But Snow was sure of him, as was Charming. He was their best hope of getting home. So they would do whatever they had to in order to give him the courage he needed to help them.
