❝ She's whiskey in a teacup. ❞
- Dean Brody
THE SECOND BILL pulled up to Gran's house, Juliette was out and already in the house, There would be no way she was staying and listening to Sookie and Bill's couple argument about his nature.
Granted Sookie would have a point since Bill did almost murder the cop that pulled them over on the way back from Fangtasia, but that was beside the point.
Letting out an exhausted sigh, Juliette trudges up to her room, she could faintly hear Sookie and Bill arguing but she tuned it out.
Her mind drifted to the night she had, more specifically about a pair of blonde haired blue eyed vamps. Pam was definitely someone Juliette could see herself getting along with, Eric, on the other hand, she didn't know what to make of the handsome vampire, but one thing she knew for sure was that she wouldn't be seeing the last of these two.
Letting out an audible groan, Juliette grabs her laptop, "I can't believe I'm actually doing this," She grumbles to herself.
A few moments later an automated voice was heard, "Welcome to Rosetta Stone, please pick a language."
Yep, she was actually doing this.
Juliette had spent an hour brushing up on her Swedish before she had called it a night and went to bed. She woke up late that morning, or should she say afternoon and since she had it off, Juliette decided to take a personal day for herself.
It included another hour of a Rosetta Stone, Swedish language session before she decided to call it quits and grab a book. She easily lost track of time lost in her book and she jumped when someone knocked on her door.
Looking up she saw her Gran walking in, "I was just making sure, you would be attending today's Descendants of the Glorious Dead talk," However there was no question in Gran's words, it was a subtle reminder to Juliette that she was expected to attend.
Juliette groans, "Do I have too?" She whines.
"Yes," Adele deadpans, before leaving the room so there would be no room for arguments from Juliette.
With another groan, Juliette rolls off the bed to start getting ready for what most likely would be a very boring couple hours.
It wasn't that Juliette hated history, she just hated recent history, talk about the Greeks and Romans, you'd have her full attention, Vikings or even medieval history, she could listen for hours, but American history, that would put her to sleep faster than tequila.
Strolling into the Church the first thing Juliette saw was Miss Fortenberry trying time pull down the golden cross at the front of the church.
Getting comfortable against the wall, a smirk crawls onto her face as she watches in pure amusement as the woman struggles to pull down the cross, Hoyt seeing what Maxine was doing rushes over. Juliette couldn't hear what they were saying but from the way they were aggressively whispering, she assumed they were arguing.
Oh Jesus, momma.
Juliette caught Hoyt think, his mind was the first she heard that wasn't judging Bill 'the vampire'.
Juliette made sure to do her best to put up her mental barriers against the thoughts invading her mind, but without the alcohol's aid in dulling them, it required much more exertion.
Still watching the Fortenberry's, Juliette's amusement only rose as Hoyt climbed atop the alter trying to pull the cross off. Eventually, they just threw a flag atop of it to cover it up.
"Well, hello there," Looking over, Juliette saw it was one of the town's younger rednecks, Chase? No. Connor? She didn't think so, Chad? Juliette internally shrugs, she'll call him Chad.
"What do you want?" Juliette sighs.
Chad was momentarily stunned at her bluntness, and for a brief second his eyes shone with nervousness but he recovered quickly, giving her a what he thought was a charming smile, "Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?"
"I'm a satanist," She deadpans.
"Well, then why are you in a church?" He questions and Juliette raises an eyebrow.
"Because I came here to worship the devils spawn, the vampire, hail Satan, and may he torture your soul for an eternity," She deadpans, before her lips curl into a patronizing smirk, "Now why don't you walk away, Chad."
"It's actually Dave—"
"Walk Away," She orders and he nods scurrying away, leaving Juliette with a self-satisfied smile.
Seeing as the event was going to start soon, Juliette made her way to where she saw Sookie, Sam, and Tara sitting, arriving at the same time as her brother.
Jason surprised Juliette by giving her a beaming smile and kissing her cheek before sliding into the seat beside Tara after giving her brother a weird look, she follows sitting into the seat beside him.
"How you feeling?" Tara questions.
Juliette looks over in confusion watching as Jason nods, "Oh, strong," He replies breathily, "Alive, yeah."
Juliette's eyebrows furrow and she grabs her twin's chin turning his face towards her, taking in his dilated pupils, slightly sweaty face, and his relaxed grin.
"Are you high?!" She quietly exclaims, doing her best to keep her voice down so the whole church doesn't hear her.
Juliette goes as far as to sniff him, trying to detect the skunky odor of smoking weed but the only thing she smells is his cologne.
"No, of course not Jules," Jason assures but the way he slightly dragged out his words and the lazy smile that accompanied it, made Juliette think otherwise, Juliette opened her mouth to continue her interrogation but Jason just raised a finger to her lips, "Shh, it's starting."
The voices in the church quiet down and Juliette bites the inside of her cheeks to keep from yelling out in frustration, something was up with her brother but every time she even got close to questioning him, he found a way out of it.
Another idea popped into her head, if he wouldn't talk then she would take a peek into his thoughts. Focusing on her brother, she concentrated on his mind but everything was muddy, she couldn't get a proper read on him. Juliette bit down on her cheeks harder, but when she saw Bill walk up on stage she relaxed her jaw, realizing bleeding in front of a vampire wouldn't be the best of ideas.
Having no choice but to drop the subject, for the time being, she turned her attention upfront. Her mood slightly lifting when she hears everyone gasp in horror as Bill removes the flag that Miss. Fortenberry threw on to hide the cross.
Bill skillfully places the flag onto the flag pole, holding it to his side, "As a patriot of this great nation, I wouldn't dream of putting myself before Old Glory," He states, before moving the flag to where it should have been.
Making his way back to the stand, "As you can see, I did not burst into flames," He jokes.
Juliette let out a snort of laughter, the imagery that popped into her mind was slightly morbid yet funny. It seemed Sookie, who caught the mental picture, didn't find it funny as she threw her sister a disturbed look.
A few other people in the church laughed as well but it was nervous and hesitant. Bill eventually began talking about his experience in the war but no matter how hard Juliette tried to pay attention, she couldn't help but nod off, it was like history class all over again.
Juliette jumped awake when Jason accidentally bumped her as he moved to stand, along with everyone else in the church. Doing her best to mask her yawn, she discreetly looked around to see if anyone noticed her nap but thankfully she didn't notice any disapproving looks, except Sookie but her sister disapproves of most things she does, so Juliette just ignored her.
Since the speech was over, it was now time for the best part, Food. She filled her plate high with everything available and also grabbed herself a large glass of sweet iced tea.
Juliette started carefully walking over to her Gran, doing her best to balance her food. Miss. Fortenberry who had just gotten a picture with Bill gave her a plate a judging look and if Juliette had a free hand she definitely would've gave Maxine something to frown about.
Hoyt who was trailing after his mom pauses in front of Juliette.
"Can we talk?" He questions nervously.
Juliette looks to her food before looking at Hoyt's hopeful eye before sighing, "Sure."
Hoyt smiles in relief, "Thank god, I just wanted to apologize for not telling you about Jason, I should've told you, I was being stupid—"
"Hoyt...Hoyt!" Juliette giggles cutting him off from his rambling, "Look it's fine, water under the bridge, just don't do it again," She states and Hoyt smiles, he moves to hug her before realizing he couldn't due to her plate of food.
Instead, he gives her one last smile before walking off leaving Juliette to continue on her original path.
Adele seeing Juliette's plate frowned, "You'll give yourself a stomach ache," She scolds.
"I'll be fine Gran, I got a bottomless pit for a stomach," Juliette waves off before giving Bill a halfhearted smile, "Great speech, it was very interesting."
Bill smirks giving her a knowing look, "I'm glad you enjoyed it," He responds amused.
Sookie bounces over to them a bright smile on her face, while Sam reluctantly trails after her, his smile fake and forced.
"Hey, great job tonight!" Sookie smiles.
"Wasn't he just marvelous?" Adele gushes.
"Yeah, that was...that was quite a show," Sam nods, Juliette stuffed a tipsy cake into her mouth to keep from snickering, it looked like it physically pained Sam to even give Bill that compliment.
"Bill, you remember Sam, right?" Sookie asks, her smile still in place.
Bill nods, "Yes, uh, you're Sookie's employer."
"Oh, not when we're off duty," Sam smiles wrapping a possessive arm around Sookie, clearly not picking up the fact Bill wasn't asking.
"No, legally you still are," Bill states.
Juliette chokes on her cake and everyone looks at her, taking a sip of her tea to wash it down before she looks to Sam, "Technically, he's got a point," She shrugs.
Sam and Sookie both shoot her a glare while Bill smiles smugly.
"Well, I just wanted to congratulate you," Sookie's smile was once again back and Juliette just gave her sister a quizzical look, wasn't Sookie supposed to be mad at Bill or something, Sookie's smile tightens when she hears her sisters thoughts but she continues on as if she hadn't, "It seems like you've won everybody over."
"Well, some, I hope," Bill replies.
Sam seemingly having enough of the conversation jumps in, "Well, we better get going, we're gonna grab a cup of coffee before we call it a night," It was obvious Sam was trying to make Bill jealous, even subtly staking his own claim with his arm wrapped around Sookie's shoulders.
"Coffee," Bill says, his tone tight, "Sounds delightful."
"Just don't get her pregnant," Juliette states with a lazy smile.
Everyone pauses and the looks she received varied from shock to mild amusement.
Sookie snapped out of it first and stepped forward to give Adele a hug, "Good night Gran, I'll see you later."
Looking at Juliette, Sookie just gives her wet look, "Don't choke," Sookie says dryly.
Juliette responds with a pleasant smile, "Oh Sooks, you say the sweetest things."
Sookie couldn't help the snort she let out and the small smile that tugged her lips but when the younger girl realized what she was doing, she forced a glare onto her face but judging from that satisfied smirk on Juliette's face, she had seen Sookie's smile.
After Sookie and Sam walked away bill turned towards Adele and Juliette. "He seems nice..."
"Mm"
When Juliette walked into Merlotte's for a drink, she literally thought she was asleep, there at the bar was her brother flirting with Tara. Juliette went as far as to pinch herself, realizing it wasn't a dream, Juliette walks up to the bar.
"Can I get a bourbon?" Juliette questions.
"Get it yourself," Tara snaps.
Flipping Tara off, Juliette hops over the bar making herself a bourbon sour. By the time, Juliette was done making her cocktail, Jason had left.
"Look, Tara, I'm happy that Jason's finally going for you, I love him and I'm sure some part of me loves you but just be careful, I know my brother and he's not one to do long term relationships" Juliette warns earnestly before taking a sip of her drink, her face screwing up from how sour she accidentally made it.
Tara lets out a laugh at Juliette's face before nodding, "Thanks, and trust me I know," Tara states but Juliette could easily see that Tara had already fallen for her brother's sweet words, it was a look she'd seen plenty of times on Jason's female companions, "Oh and I love you too, bitch."
Juliette smirks, flipping Tara off but internally she was hoping her brother wouldn't hurt Tara but they were both consenting adults and it wasn't Juliette's job to tell them what to do.
Somewhere between Juliette's second drink, she saw Lafayette storm out of the kitchen, holding a plate with a burger on it.
Leaning against the bar she watches as he makes his way to the redneck who hit on her at the church, Chad, and his friends.
"...and AIDS!" She heard Lafayette yell, the whole bar quieted down as they're attention shifted to the booth Lafayette stood in front of, "Do anybody got a problem with that?"
"Yeah! I'm an American, and I get to say in who makes my food," One of Chad's friend's states.
Setting down her drink, Juliette saunters over a predatory smile on her face, "Gentleman, do we have a problem here?" She purrs, placing a hand on Lafayette's shoulder as she gazes down at the three.
"Nothing that involves you, move along lady," The man waves off.
Juliette's eyes darken but her smile still stays in place as she leans her elbows down onto the table.
"Now listen here Dave, is that your name? I don't really care, let's call you Dave—"
"—Actually I'm Dave," Chad inputs.
"Shut up, Chad" Juliette orders before looking at 'Dave', "You see when you insulted my friend here, this automatically became my problem, so how about instead I give you two options, One, eat the damn burger like a grown fucking man or Two, get the fuck out of this bar."
Maybe it was the drinks, or maybe the pent up frustration but Juliette was itching for a fight and she sincerely hoped she would get to at least break a few noses.
"I ain't eating no burger made by no faggot," Dave growls.
"Well, baby it's too late for that, faggots been breeding your cows, raising your chicken, even brewing your beer long before I walked my sexy ass up this motherfucker, everything on your goddamn table got AIDS," Lafayette states and Juliette smirks.
"You two still ain't making me eat no AIDS burger," Dave snaps.
"Oh honey, all you had to do is say 'hold the AIDS'" Juliette's voice once again dropped into a purr as Lafayette grabbed one of the top hamburger buns and licked it.
"Here, eat it," Lafayette said shoving it into the man's face.
The other two men stood up to attack Lafayette but Juliette was quick as a viper and knocked them both back into their seats in two seconds flat, Chad let out a cry holding his nose.
"You broke my nose!" He exclaimed.
Meanwhile, Lafayette uppercut Dave sending him back into his seat, "Bitch, you come into my house, you gonna eat my good the way I fucking make it! Do you understand me?" Lafayette growled, tossing the plate into Dave's lap.
"Tip your waitress," Lafayette finishes off before wrapping an arm around a smirking Juliette and turning away.
Jason lets out a laugh holding his hand out for a high five, and both Juliette and Lafayette give him one.
"My sisters a badass!" Jason exclaims, despite Lafayette doing most of the badass-ry.
Juliette and Lafayette shared a playful eyed roll at Jason's antics before Lafayette made his way back to the kitchen and Juliette back to the bar to make another drink since she had left her second one unattended.
Juliette was gaining a nice buzz when Tara stormed back into the bar.
"Your brothers an asshole!" She exclaims before walking away.
Deciding to call it a night, Juliette makes her way back to Gran's house, not wanting to go to Jason's apartment in case he decided to bring his conquest there.
Juliette arrived at the same time as Sookie did.
"How was your night?" Juliette asks.
Sookie looks over sullenly, "Don't ask, what about yours?"
Juliette snorts, "Don't ask," She repeats.
The pair walk in, Juliette catching Sookie as she accidentally slips. Thinking, Gran had accidentally spilled something, she turns on the light only for her blood to run cold.
It was their grandmother's corpse and the liquid Sookie had slipped on was her blood. The blood, it was everywhere, pooling around Adele's body, splattered on the walls and the rest of the kitchen.
Juliette couldn't help it, she kneeled over and threw up.
