Chapter 2: Grounded
And just like that, they were gone.
A human child, one with a pure and innocent heart had left the underground without a word.
Not too long after they left, Alphys had rushed to find his remains.
"I-I don't believe it..." Undyne, awestruck at the scene fell to her knees. Heart running cold, she didn't know how to feel about what was before her. Alphys wrapped her arms around the frozen fish, holding her tight as the latter's couldn't stop shaking.
This was painful for her, but deep inside she knew things had to be this way.
But did it really? Undyne brought her hand into the pile of dust, dissipating in her hands as tears trickled down her cheeks. In that moment, she quietly wept for the monster who had basically become her father-figure for almost her entire life. And for the first time in ages, Undyne burst into tears. "Dammit old man..!"
"UNDYNE! ARE YOU OK?" Their sorrows were unabated as Sans and Papyrus walked in, the latter trying to process the torn up room. The barrier was still there, yet everything, including the barrier, looked so distorted. The human, one that had their intent made on returning to the surface, must've gone through a lot.
Approaching her friend, Papyrus brought his hand on her back to comfort the monster.
Walking past all three, Sans decided to begin his own sort of investigation. Alphys' eyes trailed from her friend, now focusing on Sans as he carefully moved around the room. After nearing the barrier, Sans paused, something she noticed as he turned around. "Something feels off."
"REALLY?" Sans felt something under them. It felt as if something had lingered behind, holding on to life as the skeleton looked around. A blue and yellow hue lit up from his left eye, glowing as he began to survey the area. The other two watched in astonishment as the skeleton, having not revealed before, had his mysterious ability out on display for them to see. Undyne turned to Papyrus, a confused look on her face as she wiped away her tears.
"W-Why is his eye glowing?" she asked, leaving Papyrus to nervously laugh.
"O-OH, SO HE NEVER TOLD YOU... I GUESS SANS WASN'T TOO COMFORTABLE IN LETTING EVERYONE KNOW..."
"I didn't have the guts to tell ya." Sans brought his hands up, a familiar drum tune playing in the background as the three groaned in response. It was then that Sans caught something, right in front of Undyne. He knelt down taking a close look at the remains of their late king, already turned away from the others as his eyes closed.
"Alphys, the spare SOUL containers." His eyes returned to normal, but his face told a different story. The others could tell he was looking at the kings remains intently, almost as if something was off about them.
"Wha-"
"They can't hold on much longer, get them now from the lab and we'll meet you halfway!" Without much as a word, the scientist rushed back through the throne room as Papyrus was confused. Undyne had already stood back up, grabbing Sans by the hood as he quickly brought his hands up in surrender.
"W-What do you plan to do with Asgore's remains!?" Undyne was starting to get angry, just what was he planning to do? Papyrus brought himself in-between the two, gently placing his hand on the fish-lady's arm as she turned to her student. The expression he wore, her student, her friend, was extremely fearful.
Undyne, realising her sudden burst of anger, slowly put her friend back down.
"S-Sorry Papyrus, you're bro's got me a bit worried..." Undyne felt a hand rubbing her back, as Papyrus put on a gleeful smile putting her at ease. "DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT UNDYNE, IM JUST GLAD YOU'VE CALMED DOWN!"
"I wouldn't be too sure of that, we're moving the kings' remains to the lab." The two paused, looking back at the skeleton who wore a serious expression on his face. At first Undyne was mad before, but now she was enraged. Just what was he planning to do with Asgore, now in dust?
Sans' eyes glowed once more, bringing out hand out from his pockets as he began to lift the dust below them. Undyne clinched her teeth at the scene, but Papyrus placed himself between them as they rushed back to the lab.
Alphys, Undyne, even Papyrus couldn't see it.
But Sans could, and what he saw was astounding to even monster-kind.
The four of them watched as Alphys put a needle into the kings remains, as she moved across the laboratory, pushing books and papers off the clear her tables. Papyrus rushed back from a nearby cupboard, with several wires as they attached them to her super-computer.
What was happening? Even Undyne wasn't too sure, but she had many questions building up in her mind. Were they trying to save Asgore? She had hoped this would be the case, seeing how desperately the three of them were going along with Sans.
But she would soon get those answers as Sans ran to a nearby power switch to turn the power on.
Every light in the main lab turned off, as wires attached between the SOUL container and computer began to glow. Lighting up the room, she watched as energy slowly flowed into the container. She, along with Alphys and Papyrus watched in astonishment as Asgore's remains rose from within the container, before slowly forming a ball of white energy.
"W-What's happening to Asgore...?"
"It was the only way we could save them, give us another chance..." Alphys said, moving to hold Undyne in another attempt to comfort her. Standing off to the side, the skeleton was now wearing a white lab coat, as he and Papyrus observed the ball of energy within the container. Undyne was confused, them?
It was then that it clicked, they weren't trying to restore Asgore...
They were trying to keep the human SOULs alive.
Undyne's fists began to clench, now looking even more gloomy than before. Papyrus was inches away from the container, looking a little surprised at the scene playing out before them. "WOWIE... WHAT IS THIS SANS?"
"Well bro, this is a SOUL container..." It was then that Sans explained everything.
Not only had the six human souls survived, but they latched onto Asgores remains as a temporary vessel. Now here they were, slowly fading away in front of the monsters' eyes.
Sans looked back to the group, gesturing towards the white ball of energy, as it was now flickering.
"Info the previous royal scientist states that, depending on the strength, their SOUL can linger on after death." Sans kept his eyes on the container, arms crossed as he was starting to feel uneasy. "But it can only last for so long, and soon they'll have no body else to once Asgore's lingering soul kicks the bucket for good."
"So what, are we supposed to keep them until they die out by themselves?" Undyne couldn't understand, why keep the human souls alive when they were just going to fade away eventually?
Alphys steps beside Undyne, looking intently at the container before turning towards her closest friend.
"S-Sans, you're not saying..." Sans glared at the scientist, before turning back to Undyne with a firm look.
"In order for this fusion of souls to survive, they're gonna need a strong monster to absorb them... Undyne." Papyrus stares back at his brother in shock, as did others present in the room. Undyne, who had been angered by the skeletons newfound initiative, could only stare blankly at him.
"M-Me?"
"D-Damn it...!" His vision was still blurry, mind fuzzy as he tried to readjust himself to his surroundings. What the hell happened? Was he knocked out of the atmosphere or something? If it weren't for his newly acquired injuries, possibly even worse than the ones he suffered from Kakarot, he would be absolutely livid.
Knees weak, arms heavy, but the saiyan managed to pull himself off the ground.
Taking off the mask from his ships' rejuvenation chamber, the saiyan stood alone as remnants of his ship came crashing down ahead in the distance. It was a barren wasteland, one dark and grey, it's cold air evident as Turles took a deep breath. Trying to recompose himself, his fists clenched, trying to make sense of why he'd be injured so badly again.
A steamy cloud exited his mouth, as the saiyan finally managed to calm down.
It was almost if the world was trying to kill him.
"Where is my scouter..?!" Even his once chance to track these Earthlings' energies, were also gone as well.
Way to start off the day, this shit couldn't get any worse... He had healed from his injuries, only to suffer even more due to this interference. Looking down at his body, he found most areas covered in open wounds and bruises. Frustration began settling in for Turles as he was more than confused, he had just left Earth too.
It all happened so fast, and he struggled to remember what brought his ship down.
A flash of red, and half his entire ship was on a crash course to Earth.
That's all he could remember.
"But where the hell did that energy come from..." Did Kakarot and the others find his ship? It didn't seem too out of the question, he was always surprised at how they continued to track the saiyan down without scouters. Perhaps they had learnt some sort of power level sensing ability, and used that to find his ship and finish the job.
It's happened before, whose to say they didn't use that same ability again?
And they destroyed his ship, his one and only out on this planet.
Stranded, reality begun to set in for the space-pirate. However, Turles would not be deterred.
"It doesn't matter, I'll get payback soon enough..." Turles said to himself, clutching his hand as he slowly began to float into the air. He wont let this attack go unpunished, he'll find the assailant responsible for destroying is ship. Whether it be Kakarot, his son, or any other Earthling, he'd make sure they'd suffer for leaving him stranded here.
Who knows? Maybe Turles could have some fun on this planet once he's healed.
Looking down to his bleeding chest, the saiyan couldn't help but crack a smile.
"I wont subject myself to this rock anymore than I have to...!" The saiyan chuckled in satisfaction, as he slowly began to fly off into the skies. But first, he need to find a new change of clothes.
There's no way the leader of the Crusher Core would go around half-naked.
Blasting off into the clouds, he failed to notice the small figure near the wreckage of to the west. Their pace quickened, footsteps approaching the crash site from which Turles had left.
Sounds of clanking and rubble could be heard, as they scavenged the remains of the ship.
A/N
Ho? Undyne absorbing the lingering remnants of the six human souls?
Though it's known that the six human souls sacrificed themselves to destroy Omega Flowey, we never really saw them actively crack and break apart. Using this I'm going to make a detour on their fate, having them stick around for a little while longer...
Speaking of which, I might as well clear things up here in case you were wondering
For powerscaling, I'm keeping Turles' power back to where it was prior to eating the fruit, which is around 19K. But if you've seen enough Turles videos, you know I'm going to put a twist on this, since it takes place after the Tree of Might movie.
I'm also sorry if Sans seems a bit too serious here, but due to the circumstances and what he knows about the 'timelines jumping left and right' I had always believed the skelebro wouldn't take a backseat and let things happen. I thought back to the Leaderless Ending, and wished to make something out of it.
In terms of pairings I suck at writing romance, so I'm not even going to try unless you guys really want me to.
But other than that, this is all I've got written for this chapter... I don't really have a beta so I'll probably be proof-reading this later lol
Thanks for reading this chapter, and I'll see you in the next one!
