It's been about a month since I posted the last chapter, I know. It's been a little hectic with working on two other stories and going back to work. I'm wrapping up Lucid Dream: The Hunchback of Notre Dame this week and moving on to the next entry and the next chapter of Trials of the Dragon Trainers is in progress. This is as far as I've gotten with The Biggest Dreamer right now. I'll try to start the next chapter tonight, but I don't know when it'll be up.
Somebody asked me if this is going to have Blackgatomon or Labramon in it at all. The answer is no. I know next to nothing about them. I know old school Digimon from when it was on Saturday mornings, so that's seasons one and two and I have very few memories about season three and only because I was traumatized by it.
The movie signed off. Kari looked over and saw Yume was asleep. She turned off the TV and turned her attention to the sketchbook laying on the table. She picked it up and started looking through it. She didn't think Yume would mind her looking at her pictures.
Kari started from the front, finding Yume in scenes of forests, mountains, and beaches, clearly going on adventures with both people and animals, searching for treasure. Then there were the monsters and the blobs that she drew in her sleep. Kari looked very closely at the orange and brown blob with the blue stripes. There was something about it and the yellow and green blob next to it that was familiar to Kari.
The doorbell rang.
Kari put the sketchbook down and went to answer the door. She opened the door and saw Yume's oldest brother.
"Ichiro?"
"Hey, Kari, is Yume here? We can't find her."
"Yeah. She's sleeping on the sofa."
"She's sleeping?" Ichiro repeated.
"Do you want me to wake her up?" Kari asked.
"No, uh, just send her back over when she wakes up," said Ichiro. "Camp got cancelled because of the snow. I know, it sounds unbelievable, but we had snow."
"I believe you. My parents are on their way back early from my grandparents because of the weather," Kari told him. "Did you see Tai?"
"Yeah, I saw him," said Ichiro. "He and some other kids got off at a different stop. I think they may have been walking someone else home. I don't know why else they got off there. But when Yume wakes up, send her home."
"Okay. Bye, Ichiro."
Kari closed the door and went back to the sofa.
Yume lifted her head up. "Who was that?"
"Ichiro. Camp was cancelled, so they came home. He wants you to go home since you're awake."
Yume looked around the apartment. "If they're back, shouldn't Tai be back, too? Is he still in Digi-World? Where is he?"
"Ichiro saw him on the bus back," Kari replied. "He got off at a different stop. He said he was walking somebody home."
"So when he gets home, he can tell us about his adventures!" Yume said excitedly.
"But you have to go home," said Kari.
"We don't have to tell them I woke up now," said Yume slyly. "Let's wait for Tai to get home!"
Deciding they wanted a snack, the girls got some more watermelon and ate at the table.
"You didn't have any more bad dreams during your nap, did you?" Kari asked.
Yume paused and thought for a moment. "No. But I did dream of purple stars. Light purple. I think my mom calls it lavender."
"That's a pretty color," said Kari.
Yume nodded her head in agreement. She went back to her watermelon for a moment, then wrinkled her nose.
Kari noticed her expression. "What's wrong?"
"Just thinking," Yume replied. "I think Merlin needs a friend."
"Merlin?" Kari repeated. "The drawing you did earlier?"
"Yeah, I think he needs a friend," Yume said. "He needs a cat."
Kari giggled. "A cat. He'll look more like a witch than he already does."
"So?" Yume asked. "He's my wizard. I can make him how I want, and I think he should have a talking cat as a friend."
Kari laughed. "Sounds like what happened in the movie we watched. Are you sure you were asleep?"
"Really?" asked Yume.
"Yes, but I bet your cat will be more amazing than the movie," said Kari.
"Thanks, Kari! I'll start drawing her now!" Yume jumped up and collected her sketchbook and crayons and ran back to the table.
Kari watched Yume open to a clean page and begin to draw the cat with a black crayon.
"Wanna help?" Yume asked.
"What do I do?" asked Kari.
"Give me ideas," replied Yume. "What color should I make her?"
"I think she shouldn't be black," said Kari. "That's been done. Witches always have black cats. Maybe she should be more like Meeko."
Yume looked at the black crayon she used to outline the cat. "Maybe not Meeko. She's a wizard's cat. She should be magical. She shouldn't look normal."
Kari went through the box of crayons. "What about this?" She took out the light blue crayon.
"Yeah!"
Yume drew while Kari gave ideas. The magical cat they created for Merlin ended up with light blue fur with pink spots, silver eyes, and a purple collar with stars.
When they finished, Yume frowned, wrinkling her nose like she did before.
"What's wrong?" Kari asked. "Don't you like her?"
Yume flipped the page back to Merlin. "He doesn't look right now."
"Why not?"
"Stars don't work for him." Yume tilted her head to the side, thinking. She straightened up and turned back to the cat drawing. "I'll draw him again later."
Yume cleaned up her sketchbook and crayons and put them back into her bag. Kari got up and got a saucer of milk for Meeko. The two girls went into the bedroom.
"Here, Meeko," called Kari. She sat the saucer on the floor.
Meeko meowed and walked over for her treat.
The front door opened.
"Hello, Kari, we're back," Mrs. Kamiya called.
"Is everything all right, sweetie?" Mr. Kamiya called.
"Hi!" Kari called, walking out of the bedroom. "Everything's just fine."
Yume grabbed her wand and followed Kari out. "Hi, Mr. and Mrs. Kamiya."
"Oh, hi, Yume," said Mr. Kamiya. "I thought you would be at camp."
"Mom didn't want me to go," said Yume. "So I came over here so Kari wasn't lonely."
"That's really nice of you, Yume," said Mr. Kamiya.
"What was wrong with Grandma?" Kari asked.
Mr. Kamiya went into the kitchen. "She took a bit of a fall, that's all." He opened the refrigerator and got a drink. "She sprained her ankle when she was out for a walk, but it's not serious. She has to stay in the hospital for a day and she's hopping mad 'cause it cuts into her dancing lesson."
"That's Grandma," said Kari. She got her father a glass for his drink. "Here!"
Mr. Kamiya took the glass from her. "Thanks, sweet pea." He poured his drink into the glass.
Mrs. Kamiya took her cooking apron from the hook and put it on. "Grandma was worried about your cold and said Daddy should remember your sweater next time."
Mr. Kamiya groaned, upset at being blamed for Kari being sick.
"I'm back to normal now," Kari assured.
"Oh?" said Mr. Kamiya. "You look much better, but let's check to make sure." He put his hand on Kari's forehead. "You feel about as cool as a cucumber."
Kari giggled.
The front door opened again.
"I'm back!" called Tai.
"Tai?" Mrs. Kamiya went to the door and saw her son standing in the doorway. "Why are you here?"
Meeko shot out the open door with a loud meow, but was ignored.
"Camp was canceled because it snowed," said Tai.
Mrs. Kamiya tapped the side of her mouth with her hand. "Snow? Who would have thought at this time of year? The weather's getting so unpredictable these days. Oh! What's that?" She looked at what he was holding.
Koromon was doing his best impression of a stuffed animal.
"Huh?" Tai panicked a little that his mother noticed the Digimon. "I brought Kari home a present," he explained, hoping he would be believed.
"Great," said Mrs. Kamiya. "That's very thoughtful of you."
Tai put Koromon down and hugged his mother. "Mom!" he choked out.
"Tai, did something happen?" she asked, clueless as to why he was crying.
"I'm just glad you're here," Tai told her.
"Of course I am. What's this all about, son?"
Mr. Kamiya, Kari, and Yume came to see what was happening.
"Is something wrong?" Mr. Kamiya asked.
"Dad!" Tai moved from his mother to his father.
The parents looked at each other, confused.
Yume looked over at Koromon. She gently picked him up. "Glad you're back," she whispered.
Koromon gave her a quick glance.
"Hey, Yume."
They all turned to see Ichiro standing in the hallway.
"It's time to come home," her eldest brother said. "Mom and Dad are going to be home any minute."
"Okay," Yume said with a nod. "Bye, Kari. I'll see you tomorrow." She handed Koromon back to Tai.
Ichiro gave Tai a smile. "Hope to play soccer with you soon."
The two siblings walked back to their apartment next door.
"Kari says you were sleeping," Ichiro said. "I told her to tell you to come home when you woke up."
"I wanted to wait until Tai got home," Yume admitted.
"You're home before Mom and Dad, that's the important thing," said Ichiro. "I didn't want you to get yelled at again."
"Or blamed for losing me," Yume added with a smile.
Ichiro gave her a playful shove. She had a habit of disappearing on her parents and siblings when she went on one of her adventures. "Next time leave a note."
"Okay," she said.
Ichiro opened the door to their apartment and they went inside. "We're home!" he called.
"Yume! Yume!" Seiji came running to the door. "You won't believe it! It snowed at camp! Like really snowed! It covered the ground and everything!"
"And I missed it," Yume whined.
"Sorry, Yume," said Seiji. "It's not like I could have brought you back a snowball."
"That's okay. I went over to Kari's and we had adventures there," said Yume.
"We did bring you back something for your treasure box," said Seiji.
"He insisted," Fuyu called from the living area.
"It's in your room, whenever you get around to it," said Ichiro.
"Thank you!" Yume chirped.
The front door opened and their mother walked in, calling, "I'm home!"
It was bedtime for Yume when she went into her room. Sitting on her desk were a couple items. The first was a small box with a bow. The second was a pendant on a cord. It looked like an angular, flat teardrop with a thick stripe of light purple going across the middle. The third item was a little digital pet game. It was a light blue that was almost white with three blue buttons, one on the left and two on the right. The shape of the game itself was almost like a plus sign and it had a little antenna sticking out of the top. The screen was rectangular surrounded by a circle and there were strange symbols on the borders of the screen.
Yume opened the box with the bow and found several stones inside. There was also a note in Seiji's handwriting.
"These rocks are from the base of the mountain. Unfortunately the guide said it would be too dangerous to climb the mountain today because of the weather, so we would couldn't get your rocks from the top."
Yume took the stones out of the box. Some were rounded, some were square, some were solid colored, and some were two-toned. She went to her closet and got the lockbox out from the bottom. This was her treasure box where she put things she collected from all her adventures. Inside was an assortment of stones feathers, bottle caps, play jewelry, and more. She added the stones Seiji brought her to her treasure box and put it back in the closet.
She held up the necklace and found it was plated metal, not just plastic, and the stripe of light purple was actually something pushed in under a piece of clear plastic. She wondered if she could get more charms to switch it out, but for now she loved the purple star with the triangles pointing inward between the star's points.
She then went to the game. As soon as she touched it, a bright light came from the screen. Yume jumped back and the light disappeared. She gave it a poke, but nothing happened. She picked it up and toyed with the buttons. They didn't do anything. Yume wondered if it needed new batteries.
She yawned. It was now passed her bedtime. She left the other two items on her desk and climbed into bed.
It was so dark. She was standing alone. Something squeaked. Maybe she wasn't alone. There was more squeaking and things started diving at her head. She put her hands up and ducked down. The laughter was back, closer and just as creepy as before. A ribbon of red light streaked towards her. But instead of hitting her, it bounced off a light purple barrier. She looked down and saw her new necklace was glowing. The light grew brighter, chasing the darkness away and taking the creepy laughter and squeaking things with it. She saw a shape just on the edge of the light. It looked like a person.
"Hello?" she called.
The person stretched their hand out into the light. She could see the worn brown glove reaching out to her. The person snapped their fingers and the light purple stars appeared in the sky. When she turned back to the person, there was no one there.
Soon.
Something was so happen soon. She wasn't sure what it was or how she knew, but something was going to happen soon. But for now, she would dance under purple stars.
A Digivice, a tag and a crest, but no Digimon. Anyone care to make any guesses of what may happen next?
