Sick
Chapter 5: SURPRISE!
While Danny was dealing with Star's cold, The Fentons and their guests were stilling fighting off against the horde of ghost animals who were sent by Vlad to ruin everything. The ghost hunters were not taking this standing by as they were going in up close and personal.
"Get off my property, you putrid manifestation of ectoplasmic energy and post-human consciousness!..."Maddie yelled as she kicked a ghostly beaver and kneed a wolf in the back. "Or, I guess post-animal consciousness… in this case..." She corrects herself before grabbing the wolf by a leg and tossing it aside.
Jack took a moment to admire his wife's amazing moves and grinned.
"Man, thats hot!..."He said before going back to fighting his opponent, a vicious ghost gorilla.
Across the yard, Tucker, Sam and Jazz were busy firing their weapons at the ghostly beasts while Valerie wishes she could that she could assist in some way.
"There's gotta be something I can do without the Fentons or Star's parents seeing me in that suit!..."The girl thought, frustrated.
Johnathan was still in the house while Star's mother remained unconscious. Valerie was looking back and forth for an opportunity. She can't risk them seeing her in her and telling her dad. Especially with Vlad probably keeping his eye on them.
She needs something. She needed a way to help without her armor but how.
She soon spotted a nearby rake outside and got an idea.
"Maybe that can work..."Val thought as she figured that would work.
She might not be able to use her weapons right now but that doesn't mean that she can't fight back. The teenage girl ran outside, wanting in on the action.
"Valerie!..."Johnathan called but his daughter's friend went outside, heading to fight.
Valerie ignored him, grabbed a rake, used it like a bo-staff and charged at some of the ghost animals. With a weapon, Valerie was able to get involved.
"I'm helping!..."She yelled, aiming the front of the rake like a spear.
Sam and Valerie looked over to each other, not smiling, but not glaring either.
"Let's hope you can handle this without your suit..."The goth girl said.
"You'd be surprised about what I can and can't handle!..."The ghost huntress said before striking a ghost with the rake.
Thankfully, they don't seem smart enough to go intangible.
Johnathan saw this whole thing and felt some things. Relieved about how the ghosts are being pushed but also also scared for the kids who are also fighting. Part of him wanted to help but knew he didn't have the skills for it and wasn't sure how to help. Plus, someone had to make sure Stella was alright and there were plenty of fighters in the field.
Besides, he saw some of the ghosts retreating and realized that he didn't need to worry for long.
"Looks like they can handle it..."He thought as the Fentons and Danny's friends fought back against the ghosts.
He just hoped that they will be quick and get rid of these beasts before Danny and Star arrive.
With Danny
Danny, still in ghost form, carried the sickly Star in his arms, flying her through the air.
"Don't worry, My Starlight. I'll get you home, I promise..."He said to the ill girl.
Star looked up, tired and feeling miserable. She ignored her health and let it get worse and now she can barely breathe through her nose.
Even worse, she felt like dirt for ignoring her health and she ended up ruining Danny's birthday!
It made her sickness the least of her problems.
"I'm sorry Danny...I just wanted to give you a perfect birthday...and I ruined it..."Star said in a guilty way.
Danny wasn't going to let her beat herself up and think she messed up.
"You didn't ruin anything..."Danny said. "Let's just get you home, so you can get better..."Danny said and Star nodded.
He just wanted her to feel better and be able to enjoy without her getting herself in danger. Star sneezed again but she at least avoided his face.
Danny sighed as he sent her a caring look as he kept flying.
He just wanted his Starlight to get better.
A few moments later
Danny soon arrived to his neighborhood, still carrying his sick girlfriend.
He was planning on flying straight to Platinum Lane and get her home, maybe even get her some chicken soup and orange juice, as well as all the other stuff you're suppose to take when you're sick.
"It'll be okay, Star. You'll get back on your feet soon..."He whispered to her.
However, he noticed some sort of commotion and the sounds of blasters coming from his backyard. That's when his ghost sense went off.
"Huh? What's going on there?..."Danny said as he saw the commotion and flashes from his house from here.
Feeling worried for his family, Danny changed course and landed near Fenton Works
"Be quiet, stay on your guard and stay close..."He said to her, landing at the alley nearby.
As Danny changed back, he gently adjusted Star and headed towards the backyard where the sound of shooting was going on.
"Mom? Dad? Jazz?..." Danny called out as he opened the door that lead to his yard.
He blinked at what he saw and what they are doing right now.
There, in his backyard, he saw his parents, his sister, his best friends and Valerie fighting the last of the ghostly animals.
"Eat Fenton weasel, ghost creeps!..." Jack yelled, sucking the big ghostly mousse into it while checking for more danger.
Valerie, meanwhile, used the improvised weapon to help Sam, Tucker and Jazz to ward off a bunch ghost bats.
"Take this, bug breaths!..."Valerie shouted as she used the rake to swing at them like baseballs.
"Thanks for the assist, Val..."Tucker said as he pulled out an extra thermos and used it on the bats.
Once the last of the ghosts were captured, Stella regained consciousness and went outside.
"Oh, where am I? And why do I remember some hideous animal costume?..."She said, feeling a headache as she rubbed her head.
"That wasn't an animal costume..." Johnathan answered her and Stella got up.
She then noticed her daughter and her boyfriend standing at the end of the yard, after all the chaos was done. She was the first to spot them.
"They're here!..."Stella said, alerting everyone about of the birthday boy's presence.
Upon seeing them, they all stopped, straighten up and exclaimed the following statement.
"SURPRISE!..."They all shouted as Jack held the still safe birthday cake in his hands.
"WOW!..."Danny said, not expecting a surprise party...or the chaos he witnessed.
Star, who looked dumbfounded at the sight of the party... or rather, the sight of the mess the yard was in, thanks to those ghosts.
"Wow..."She said, in a less enthusiastic way.
She saw that while the ghost animals were all captured, the backyard looked like a tornado passed through it.
"What happened here?..."Star asked, a stuffy nose affecting her speech.
Sam, Tucker and Jazz looked sheepish before answering her.
"You know that there is a fine line between chaos and the usual stuff in Amity Park..."Sam said.
"And chaos comes from ghosts showing up..."Tucker added with a grin.
"At least, the cake is in one piece..."Jack said, showing the food on the table without a single bite taken.
"That's a relief..."His son said with a chuckle.
Danny smiled, happy to see everyone was okay and in one piece.
Unknown to him, one of Vlad's spy bugs, which had been crushed during the rampage, still managed to get that much of a video before being destroyed.
With Vlad
The ghostly villain was in his lair, having just finished a long and tedious afternoon of boredom and finishing his duties as mayor of Amity Park, his least favorite part of the job.
He saw his minions were defeated, Jack is still alive and his young foe is happy and enjoying himself
This made the Fruitloop angry!
"Oh, Butter Biscuits! Not again! I can't believe this!..."Vlad shouted as he slammed his fists onto his keyboard.
He had wanted to see Danny suffer, potentially in more than one piece him him and maybe get rid of Jack too while they were at it, not to watch them win.
"Inconceivable! I went through a day of stupid signing for nothing..."He muttered...before he sneezed.
"Achoo! Achoo!..."Vlad let out, his nose began to run and he suddenly felt wobbly.
"Oh no!..."Vlad said, sniffing loudly before sneezing again.
Back to the party
While Vlad was dealing with a cold, Danny was still in the backyard, still surprised by the party.
"Sorry about the ghosts, Dann-o..."Jack said to his son, noticing the burns made by shots missed.
"Hey, nobody was hurt. Besides, I'm used to it..."He said. "Still, good job..."He said, showing he appreciated his folks and everyone's efforts to fight the ghosts off and to keep the party intact.
Despite her cold, Star felt relieved that he at least made it home and got to see everything. She would wonder about those ghost animals later.
Right now, she smiled at Danny.
"Happy birthday..."The blonde girl said.
"You were in on this..."Danny said to his girlfriend in a surprised, happy tone.
"Of course, I was. No one would have forgotten your birthday..."Star said.
"Thank you..."Danny said, meaning it.
"Anytime. You know I love you, baby..."Star said as she nodded.
Danny smiled at that, he would've kiss her had it not been for her cold.
It was only then that they realized that their friends and family saw this display and smiled. Or rather most of them, as Sam rolled he eyes and Tucker looked envious.
"Aww~…" They went, embarrassing the two.
"Should've let that bear thing eat me..."Sam thought with an eye roll as Danny and Star smiled at each other, both feeling happy.
Of course, the tender moment was ruined by Star's illness.
"ACHOO!..."Star sneezed once more and her parents and Valerie noticed.
"Star, what's wrong?..."Stella said as she went to her as Johnathan felt her forehead.
"You're burning up!..."Johnathan said in concern and Stella gasped.
"Oh my goodness! Star! Are you all right?..."She said in worry.
"Mom, it's just a cold. No need to worry..."Star said stubbornly.
"I disagree..."Danny said, recalling their day.
Well, he refused to allow Star put her health at risk just for his birthday any longer!
"But Danny..."Star whined. She would have kept up but Danny cut her off.
"No! Not this time. I want you to be healthy and that means going home and resting. So, to bed with you..."Danny ordered.
"Agreed..."Johnathan said and Stella nodded.
"But all that's left is to sing the birthday song and cut the cake..."Star whined, her voice cracking a bit.
"No buts, you're too sick. Now come on..."Danny said.
"Aww…" She went as her parents pulled her along to take her home, while Danny followed.
"We'll save you some cake, Star..."Jack called, feeling sorry for her.
"Thanks, Mr. Fenton..."Star said in a stuffy way before vampire sneezing again.
"Gesundheit!..."He said while while inching back from where she sneezed.
Star was taken to her father's car, with her parents and Danny taking her home. For her, the party is over.
Later
At The Strong residence
Star was brought to her room by her parents and Danny.
Johnathan had Georgia whip up some chicken soup and Stella made a house call to a doctor to come check on her. She would have preferred getting another medical staff to look over and keep her home but Johnathan said that he could handle it.
Plus, it was unnecessary and a bit of an over kill.
Anyway, it turns out that Star only has a cold and it should be gone in a couple days, if she rests and doesn't move around too much and exert herself. She just needs to stay in bed and take plenty of liquids, as well as get plenty of rest. Now, the blonde girl is lying in bed, sniffling and sneezing while her parents were on the same page for once.
"I still cannot believe you have been out sick and in public! That's very irresponsible, young lady!?You should know better!..."Johnathan scolded her, something she can't argue against even if she had the strength to.
"Dad, I wasn't that sick..."Star tried but her dad's stern gaze shut her up.
"Yes, you were. Now, you are going to stay here until that cold is gone and you can breathe out your nose properly..."Her father said.
"Agreed. Honestly Estelle, you should be more careful than this. If you even think of getting out of that bed, I'll get that medical staff regardless of your father's orders..."Stella said, acting like a mom for once.
Star groaned at that. The knocking on the door distracted her as a certain ghost boy came in.
"Hey..."Danny said as he entered the room.
He wore a face-mask and gloves, bringing another tray of soup with a spoon, as well as an extra box of tissues.
"Can I come in?..."The boy said to the blonde parents.
Johnathan and Stella sighed but both of them nodded.
"Star is better now and will be as long as she stays in bed..."Johnathan said.
"Mr. Strong, Mrs. Bevier... if it's alright with you guys,I'll take it from here..."The ghost boy said, bringing the soup.
There was a silent agreement as the father and mother left the two alone. Danny took a seat besides Star, laying the tray on her night stand.
"Hey, sleeping beauty..."He said, taking a spoonful for her.
A few moments later
The bowl was almost empty and Danny was now in the middle of feeding Star her chicken soup, much to the sick girls joy.
Star took a spoonful of the soup and smiled. Danny couldn't help but feel relief she was taking her cold seriously. Even if she still showed symptoms, he didn't want to leave her side.
Either way, he has to keep the mask on but also keep his distance to avoid getting sick too. Still, he sent a loving look at his girlfriend.
"Best birthday present ever..."Danny said with a goofy smile.
"Which one?..."Star asked, since they did a lot of things today.
"Letting me take care of you..."He said sincerely.
Star smiled at that and if she wasn't scared of getting him sick, she'd kiss him.
Instead, she sneezed again. Luckily, Danny had a facemask on now, though being sneezed on still wasn't a thrill.
"Sorry, Danny-boo..."Star sniffled as she went for a tissue.
"It's fine, I'm wearing a mask. Plus, I drink plenty of orange juice..."The ghost boy said before dipping the spoon.
"Here you go..."Danny replied as he brought another spoonful to the girl as she sniffles again.
The boy didn't leave until Star was fed and tucked in. Once she fell asleep, he left, satisfied she's okay and healing.
The Next Day
After Danny return home, he managed to enjoy the rest of his night. Jack and Maddie even made sure to keep his presents secured, just to make sure their son had a good day, despite everything.
At the very least, he did get some of the birthday cake when he got home and his favorite foods that were laid out. He also enjoyed the gifts he got from everyone.
He got a new telescope from his parents, a book about newly discovered stars and star charts from Jazz, a jacket from Valerie, a new Dumpty Humpty CD from Sam and a new HD video game from Tucker. Even Star's mom and dad got him something, an expensive new pair of designer sunglasses and a gift card respectfully. Danny honestly didn't expect a gift from them but it was appreciated.
However, today, the teenage boy was packing up some things and was planning on visiting and nursing his bedridden girlfriend and maybe eat some leftover birthday cake later but for now, he wanted to make sure she made a complete recovery. He even brought some cake for her, which she'll have later.
He soon arrived to the Strong residence to help take care of Star.
"Danny, I don't need anything from you. I'm the one who-..."Star tried but was cut off by him.
"Star, I want to do this..."Danny said with a smirk. "So, sit back, relax and enjoy some soup as Dr. Fenton takes care of you..."He said in a stern but caring tone.
Despite her cold, Star smiled as her boyfriend who was taking care of her.
Star smiled at her boyfriend, who was bringing a spoonful of chicken noodles and with some vegetables.
"I love you, Danny..."Star said, without any delirium.
"I love you too. Now eat up so you can get up before your dad seriously considers your mom's medical staff idea..." Danny said before serving another spoonful.
Star smiled and did as ordered.
Cold or not, they were happy like this. Despite all the crazy things in her life, she was happy to have such a caring boyfriend and he was happy that cared more for her health than his gifts.
All in all, it was actually not a bad birthday, after all.
