Vacation
Liddy asked for a oneshot of the Charming family taking a vacation together away from Storybrooke.
It was confusing for Snow and Charming. They knew so much about the country that they lived in, but they'd only ever been in one tiny town for three decades. There false memories gave them a rough idea of what to expect. David Nolan had apparently grown up in Fargo, North Dakota and Mary Margaret in Jackson, Mississippi. David Nolan had then moved to Portland in Maine (not Portland, Oregon, apparently he hated having to make that distinction a lot) for a job in a factory. During a drive he'd come across Storybrooke and chose to move there because it seemed peaceful. Mary Margaret had applied for a teaching vacancy in Storybrooke Elementary and that's apparently what brought her to the small town. But now Snow and Charming were ready to leave Storybrooke's limits. Not permanently, they were just taking a couple of weeks away with Emma, Henry and Neal. They were going all over the place to see as many things as possible. Charming quite liked his rock and roll, so he had really enjoyed Emma's surprise of taking them to Graceland in Memphis. Emma also knew her much her mom appreciated art, so had arranged for the family to spend a weekend in Minneapolis to see the Minneapolis Institute of Art and the Walker Art Center (AN: sorry Americans, but your spelling is so strange to me!). The look on both their faces when they saw the special surprises she had planned for them. It was priceless. Then there was Neal when they then went across to Anaheim to Disneyland (got it right this time Soprano Pixie ;) ). She truly understood what the theme park was for when she saw how happy Neal was to be able to hug Mickey Mouse. But even his excitement paled in comparison to Henry's. He had loved Disneyland too, but Emma knew how much her son loved snow. Not the slushy stuff that comes in Storybrooke, but proper snow. So the final stop on their tour was in Anchorage, Alaska so her boy could experience some proper snow.
Emma had been all over the place, both in the system and then as an adult when she wanted to try and find herself. She wasn't to know she would find herself in a little town in Maine. But now that she had found herself, she was glad she could share some of the sights she had seen all over with her family. With the people who helped her when she was the most lost.
