Sick day
IT'S FINALLY HERE!
Welcome everyone to my submissions for TanKana Week 2021!
Theme for the first day is: 'Sick day'/Lily of the Valley (return of happiness, sweetness, purity)
Without further ado, I hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: I don't own Kimetsu.
On with the chapter!
Tanjiro rarely gets sick.
Even when he was young and he stayed up to watch his dad perform the Dance of the Fire God, and usually fall asleep in the middle making his mom carry him to bed, he was fine the next day.
That being said, 'rarely' doesn't mean 'never'.
"Hngg…" Tanjiro whimpered, resting on the futon, a wet towel on his forehead and his face flushed.
"Tanjiro." His wife called out softly. "Do you feel any better?"
"Not really." He answered with half-lidded eyes.
"Here, let me check your temperature." She moved the towel and gently rested her palm on his forehead. "Hm, it feels a bit lower than before but still high." She muttered before replacing the towel. "I made some porridge, do you think you can eat?"
"Yes… thank you." He slowly moved to a sitting position, letting his wife help him.
Kanao took a spoonful of the food and blew on it a bit to cool it down.
"Here, open wide." Tanjiro did as told, moving forward a bit to get the food. "How is it?"
"Delicious." The red haired man answered. "Thank you for making it." He said before getting another bite.
"Don't mention it." She assured him with a sweet smile. "Tell me if you need anything else."
"Alright…" He said slowly before accepting another spoonful of food.
Slowly but surely Tanjiro continued to eat until all the porridge was gone, he let out a content sigh at having a full stomach.
"Thank you so much, Kanao, it was delicious."
"You already said that." She giggled. "But I'm happy to hear it, do you need anything else?"
"Hmm… I don't think so."
"Tanjiro."
"Yes?"
"You… you're not holding back with me, are you?" Kanao asked, a mix of worry and determination in her expression.
"Eh, what do you mean?"
"It's just… you tend to always look after others so I'm worried if you're not telling me something because you don't want to bother me." She explained, moving her hand to hold his. "I… I'm your wife." A pretty blush adorned her cheeks at calling herself that. "You've always helped me before and you're always helping me now so… I don't want you to hold back if you need something."
"Kanao…" The blush in his face wasn't entirely due to the fever. "Thank you, that means a lot." He smiled widely. "I don't think I'm holding back, I don't really need anything that you haven't given me just now… I just don't want to bother you if you have to do something else."
"Then… do you want something?"
Tanjiro's eyes widened slightly before he smiled again.
"Stay with me until I fall asleep?"
Kanao's smile matched his as she nodded and covered him with the blankets once he laid down again, her hand holding his.
"…what are you thinking?" Kanao wondered, noticing he was locking gazes with her.
"How happy I am." He began. "And that I would kiss you if I wasn't sick."
His heart skip a bit at how cute she looked when she blushed but stopped herself from looking away.
"Well…" She moved the towel from his forehead and gently pressed her lips against it. "I hope that's enough for now."
"More than enough." Tanjiro squeezed her hand. "I love you."
"I love you too." He heard before falling asleep.
The next day.
"Hmm…?" Kanao slowly opened her eyes, letting them adjust to the morning light. 'I have to check on Tanjiro… what's that smell?' She smelled food cooking and got up from the bed.
"Ah, good morning Kanao." Tanjiro greeted happily as he made breakfast.
"Eh, Tanjiro?" She blinked twice, seeing her husband up getting rid of her sleepiness. "What are you doing up?" Kanao walked up to him, moving a hand to his forehead.
"Don't worry, I feel completely fine." He assured her, letting her keep her hand in his forehead long enough so she is sure he doesn't have a fever before gently grabbing it and bringing it to his lips, kissing the back of it. "I wanted to thank you for taking care of me while I was sick so I got started on breakfast."
"Silly." She giggled. "I'd say that you didn't have to thank me but I know you; it wouldn't make a difference."
"Nope." Tanjiro grinned. "Just give me a few more minutes and I'll be ready."
"Alright, I'll be back in a bit and set the table."
She was about to move but Tanjiro gently pulled from her hand to stop her.
"Just one more thing." He closed the distance and hugged her close.
"Tanjiro?" She wondered, even as she hugged back.
"My nose was clogged while I was sick." He began. "I missed your scent… it's so sweet."
"I see…" Kanao smiled as she leaned more into the hug.
Alright, first day done!
Something tells me I'm going to enjoy this week a LOT!
Until tomorrow!
