Peaches
FanOfMost asked for a oneshot of there being a food that Emma really doesn't like and Snow remembering being up half the night whilst she was pregnant with Emma because she seemed to be throwing a temper tantrum inside of her.
Snow and Charming loved that Neal's preschool encouraged a healthy lifestyle. What they didn't love, was that his enthusiasm for being a "Health Hero" combined with the knowledge that he came from a family of heroes often collided, resulting in Neal becoming obsessed with healthy living during the health focus week at his school. This meant there would be no chocolate found in the Charmings' cupboards. There would be no lazing around in front of the TV. Oh no, it was up and at 'em from sun up to sundown, with only rabbit food (as Emma so lovingly put it) to keep them fuelled. Emma loved her family, but during Neal's health weeks she was never more grateful that she didn't live with them anymore. She could only stomach so much healthy, nutritious food. But she still had to come round during health weeks which meant some was a must. So that lunch time, Emma was having fruit salad whether she wanted to or not.
"Ok Emma. It's make your own. You can have any combination of apple, grapes, strawberries, raspberries, cherries, orange, pineapple, cranberries, blueberries, grapefruit, mango, passionfruit, watermelon or peach…" Emma scrunched her nose up especially at the last one.
"Well I won't be having any peach." She announced. "I can't stand them." Snow suddenly smiled.
"Of course you do." She said. "How could I forget that you don't like peaches?" Emma was confused.
"Have I spoken about my hatred for peaches before?" She asked. She wasn't aware of talking about it with either of her parents. She didn't think she'd even spoken about it with Henry. Snow shook her head.
"Charming." Snow called. Charming came into the kitchen, wondering why Snow was grinning. "I offered Emma peach in her fruit salad." Charming suddenly laughed.
"Oh bad idea Snow. That could get ugly." Now Emma was extremely confused.
"But peaches are good for you Emma!" Neal announced. "They'll make you big and strong."
"Not for Emma buddy. It's like you with tomatoes." Neal stuck his tongue out, disgusted. He hated tomatoes.
"How do you guys know I hate peaches?" Emma asked. Snow and Charming just smiled at each other.
"We had peaches in the Enchanted Forest." Snow began. "I was quite partial to them. I was about seven months pregnant with you when I decided I would snack on one. They were healthy, I assumed it was a good snack to have whilst pregnant. I was wrong." Snow half laughed, half grimaced when she thought about that night. "You were not happy I had dared to eat a peach while we shared a body. I was only halfway through eating it when you kicked me so hard I dropped the other half. At first I thought you were just annoyed that I was sitting still, you liked me on the go, but it became pretty clear it had been the peach." Snow shrugged at the look Emma gave her. "I'll bet you had the same connection with Henry while you were pregnant." Emma supposed her mom was right. She knew there were certain foods to avoid, otherwise Henry got a little grouchy inside of her. "Anyway, you kicked up a stink that lasted the whole night. I didn't get any sleep at all because you were throwing such a tantrum."
"So naturally, neither did I." Charming added with a grin, resting his arm around Snow's shoulders. "I tried all the things that normally calmed you down in there. Rubbing your mom's belly. Talking to you, singing…nothing was working. You were passed the point of no return by then. All because of a peach." Emma couldn't quite believe this.
"We might not have raised you, Emma, but we did get to know a little about you over those nine months." Snow said gently. "You loved warm water. You liked being sang to, except for twinkle twinkle. You got narky at that too. You didn't like sitting still. You were a little mover and groover, so I had to be to. Unless I wanted a permanently damaged pelvis. Emma grimaced at that image.
"Now I'll be queasy no matter what I eat." She complained. Snow just rolled her eyes.
"Imagine how I felt when you were giving me abuse for trying to be a responsible mother and feed you some vitamins." Snow argued back.
"Well now you know. Vitamins are just evil in all realms, and I kick their butt. It's just my job as the Saviour." Snow and Charming laughed. Clearly Emma's sweet tooth was just inevitable.
