Georg woke up, early as usual, and went straight to the bathroom. Preparing himself for a shower, he groaned when he remembered the missing shower head.
Damn it…. he cursed as he took his robe and left his room, going downstairs to find some showerhead, If they have a spare one…
On his way down the stairs, he was surprised with the sight of the youngest Rainier sitting on top of the stairs, eyes fixed on the small window that shows a slight vision of the sun.
Remembering the conversation he heard last night, he can't help but to wonder if the girl sitting on the stairs already saw the sun or the moon.
You know mother's top rule is to not let us leave the house. he remembered.
Hearing the girl whimper, he sat beside her and said, "Good morning, Martha."
The girl looked at him, surprising him with her teary eyes as she whisper on her smallest voice, "You won't tell mother that you saw me here, right?"
He nodded as he patted her head and looked at the window, "You also enjoyed seeing the sun?"
Martha hummed as she looked at the window and blinked at the light, "I like it. It's warm.. but sometimes when I look at it too much, my eyes feel.. they feel like… red."
"You mean sore?" Georg asked, smiling at the child's perspective.
Martha, however, didn't smile and looked at him with a sad face, "I'm sorry."
"What ever for?"
"For not remembering the word. Most teachers tried to teach me but sometimes they are angry when I forget a word." the little girl squeaked as she compressed herself on the corner.
Georg's heart went for the child as he patted her back, "Well Martha. As you may know, I am not most teachers. In fact if I want to- I can be a professor at a university."
"Are you a professor?"
"I almost am. But teachers are also professors and professors are also teachers. We do the same job, teaching a bunch of kids, just with different ages." Georg said, satisfied that Martha fell comfortable again.
"Can I call you Professor Georg?" she asked.
Georg looked at her as she giggled, "It sounded better than Mr. Georg or Mr. Von Trapp."
He smiled seeing the girl lighten up as he mumbled, "Well you can call me anything you like as long as it's respectable."
Martha smiled at this as she wrap her arms around him, or at least tried to.
"I like you, Professor Georg. You didn't shout at me like other teachers. And you talk to me." she said as he patted her head.
Completely forgetting his showerhead hunt, he sat there comfortably gazing at the window as he watch the sun rise.
It brings back his memories, when he was at the sea.
Waking up so early to see the sun rise and to absorb whatever it may offer.
He missed those days…
When he can feel the comfort the sea, the boat and the celestial objects can give him.
He longed and winced at the memory at the same time.
Remembering her.
Agathe..
If it weren't for her accidental death, they'd be a growing family now.
He suddenly remembered the screams and splashing of water as he stiffened a bit.
I was a coward… he thought as he remembered how he handled his grief.
If he faced the issue then he will not be flooded in debt right now.
You may still be on the sea, while this family here is with another teacher… he thought to himself as he looked at the girl beside him.
Remembering his mother's words a long time ago.
When the Lord closes a door…. somewhere he opens a window.
Maria woke up from her dreamless night as she immediately stretched herself and looked at the clock.
5:30 a.m
Rubbing her eyes, she went straight to the bathroom and plotted her day while taking a shower.
I would take an early breakfast and leave before 7. I'll take the phone call by 7:30 while on the plane and I'll probably land off at 3 pm or something and I'll go straight to see the hotels and I'll visit the boutique as well.. then get to the meeting at 8 pm which makes it 2 pm there and I'll have my day from there…
She turned off the shower and dressed herself, pulling the lever beside her bed as she waited for her breakfast.
Packing her bags, she continued to plot her day as she thought of some offers some business people offered her.
Clouded with her thinking, she land down to reality when her breakfast arrived with a knock on her door.
"Good morning ma'am." Annalise greeted as she set up the table.
Maria greeted back a quiet good morning as she closed her packed bag, "Any calls, Annalise?"
"One ma'am. From Mr. Zeller. He wished to speak with you about the security measure of the hotels. He called about seven hours ago, he almost insisted on waking you up but I managed to silenced him." the housekeeper said as she made her employer's coffee.
"He has no right to speak with me about security measures when his nephew's bank was robbed three nights ago." Maria said as she began eating her food, "What did you tell him?"
"That you would be cross if I wake you up and he will have to deal with the consequences," Annalise said as she handed Maria the newspaper.
Maria read the paper and nodded, "Any other else, Annalise?"
"Mrs. Smith sent an invitation for her Christmas Ball."
"Send her my apologies. The holidays are busy days with the boutique and the hotels." Maria mumbled as she searched for interesting stories on the newspaper.
"Mrs. Huber sent a mail asking for your evaluation with Mr. Von Trapp…"
"Tell her I found him annoying and impossible yet professional enough for the job." the blonde woman sniffed as she took a sip on her tea, mentally criticizing the way some politicians dress on the paper.
Annalise nodded as she sighed, "And Mr. Von Trapp is sitting on the top of the stairs while talking with Martha, ma'am."
That made Maria look up from her paper as she folded it and took a bite on her food, "Send him here and I want a word with him. Have Martha back on her room."
"Yes, ma'am." Annalise mumbled as she left her employer to call the new teacher.
"You will not bring my children out of the house when I'm not around, do you understand, Mr. Von Trapp?"
"What if I have to? Some lessons are much easier to understand when-"
"-The house is big enough and have a lot of resources for you to give my children learning experiences. I don't want you exposing them outside nor giving them ideas what are outside." Maria said as she finished her breakfast, "Especially Martha."
"With all due respect, Ms. Rainier, Martha is-"
"Not one of your students and is my daughter. So do you or do you not understand what I just told you?" Maria asked as she glared at the new teacher.
Georg looked at her eyes as he just managed a nod. He won't argue but he will soon.
"Very well then. Since it's Friday, you have three days to find suitable clothes and you may start your classes on Monday. I am not around but I have eyes and ears around the Villa. Rules are still to be conducted even if I'm not around and I hope the rules sinked in to your mind after what happened last night. Now, you're dismissed." she said as she pulled the lever while Georg made his way out and back to his room.
Groaning at himself, he forgot about the showerhead but became surprised when he saw one on his nightstand with an attached note.
Thanks for talking to me, Professor Georg.
He smiled as he made his way to the bathroom, preparing to have a bath.
"Why did you give it to him?" Elisabeth asked as she looked at Martha, "I haven't placed the coloring yet."
"I don't want him to leave. I like him.." Martha said as she looked at her sister, "He didn't get angry at me and he let me call him Professor Georg."
Elisabeth and Frederick exchanged looks as Frederick turned to Martha and asked, "Did he do something?"
"He talked to me. He looked at the sun with me. He's not rude like the other teachers." the youngest said as she looked at her older siblings, "I don't want him to leave. He's very nice."
Frederick looked at Elisabeth with worried face as Elisabeth sighed, "Very well.. we'll stop the traps. Martha, let's get dressed. Take out the traps, Fred."
Frederick groaned as he stood and left the room.
This is a problem.
If his little sister doesn't want the new teacher to leave, then it totally changes the plan.
But Elisabeth wants him to leave.
The teenager groaned, Girls….
He took the horns and bucket of marbles out of the other room as he ran back to his room.
Maybe I should just wait till one of them changes their mind… he thought as he hid the stuffs under his bed, Maybe someday Lis will like him…
