Days passed and it's Saturday again. Not just any Saturday but it's Martha's 5th birthday.
Not only Martha's birthday but also the 5th death anniversary of Dominik Johanson, the father of the children and Ms. Rainier's late husband.
Georg only got a grasp of this information when he spoke with Annalise this morning and when he asked what should be done.. he was surprised with her answer.
"Normally the staff would let the twins sneak in snacks to celebrate Martha's birthday. Mrs. Rainier's always not home at these times, you can expect her to be back for another five day.."
Looking at the children sitting with him on breakfast, he knew he have to do something.
"Okay children! After breakfast I want you on your outdoor clothes and meet me at the front door after, uh- fifteen minutes. Be sure to have your coats and cellphones." he said as he observe the three exchanged looks.
Staying here for a birthday is not right… even when this day is also marked as a death anniversary….. he thought.
Elisabeth, Frederick and Martha waited on the front door as the twins spoke.
"I forgot to ask him… the lessons are exciting." Frederick said as Elisabeth gave him a confused look.
"Do you think he knows?"
Martha tugged on their coats as she asked, "Do you think I can ask Professor Georg to buy me a pink dress?"
Before Elisabeth and Frederick could say anything else, their teacher appeared on the hallway, holding a basket with a blanket on top of it.
"Now, children. You got everything you needed?" he asked.
The three children nodded as Georg led the way out their house to his car.
"I told Annalise that we'll be gone for the next three hours. Now, Martha, since you're the birthday girl, where do you want to go?" he asked as he opened the car for the three.
He sat on the front seat as Martha said, "I want to see father!"
Georg looked at the twins as Elisabeth mouthed, "Cemetery.."
He nodded as he drove out of the villa.
"Professor Georg?" Frederick called as he and the professor sat on the blanket, watching his sisters chase each other, "Can we do this every day?"
Georg looked at the young man as he shrugged, "It depends if you'd get tired of it."
"Oh I would highly doubt that, sir. I didn't saw Lis have so much fun like this before daddy died." Frederick said, the last few words coming out almost inaudible but Georg heard him.
"Elisabeth told me that this place gives a nice view for a picnic, especially in winter seasons. Have you two ever been in here?" Georg asked, looking around.
Frederick nodded, "Father used to bring us here after school, then mother would be here too, setting up the picnic. Then me and Lis would play with a ball. Father bought us different types of balls, we used to play 2 versus 1 soccer or volleyball… any type of games."
Georg nodded as he saw some hint of sadness on the sixteen-year-old boy.
"Well- I'm not used to picnics. Me and my family used to live near a lake, you know." Georg said, picking Frederick's attention and interest, "But I also used to play with a ball, I learned how to swim because of it. It always goes on water."
"Me and Lis learned how to climb trees because the ball always get stuck on the trees. I remember the time when mother climbed that-" Frederick stopped talking as he pointed at the tree providing them shade.
Georg can see sadness in the boy's eyes again as he look at the tree, "Well if your mother used to climb that tree then it must be that strong."
"Yes it is. Father always admired mother's strength. She never get tired of us.. or she used to not get tired of us." Frederick frowned.
Georg patted the boy's shoulder as he said, "I'm sure she still doesn't. I mean- a mother will always care about her children, no matter what happens."
"Mother became so distant ever since father died, she even hired a nanny to take care of us. Martha never experienced those joys we have with her, until today. So we have to thank you, Professor Georg." Frederick said.
Georg smiled as he shook his head, "It's not part of my job to take care of you, children, but as a human being I know the feeling of losing a parent."
Frederick nodded as Martha and Elisabeth came back, both panting with exhaustion as they helped themselves with cold water.
The group of four enjoyed their picnic as they talk about random things, any things.
"Professor Georg?" Martha called, "I saw a funny looking box at the back of your car."
"What funny looking box?" Georg asked as he opened his car compartment, "Oh this?"
"That's a guitar right?" Elisabeth asked.
"Can you play it?" Frederick asked.
"What's a guitar?" Martha asked
Georg chuckled as he lifted the box and sat back with them, "Yes it's a guitar. Yes I can and It's a musical instrument."
"Just like the piano in the attic, Martha." Elisabeth said, half-frowning.
Georg took note of the frown as he took the guitar out of the box.
"It looks like the one in Coco!" Martha exclaimed, "Can you sing something, Professor Georg… pleasee."
Georg looked at the guitar and stroked the strings.
"What do you want me to sing?"
Martha thought for a moment before she smiled, "Do you know the song they sing to the old lady? At Coco?"
Georg thought and looked at the gutar, "Remember me?"
Martha nodded as Georg slowly played the guitar as he said, "I'll try.."
He took a deep breath as he started to sing.
"Remember me
Though I have to say goodbye
Remember me
Don't let it make you cry
For ever if I'm far away
I hold you in my heart
I sing a secret song to you
Each night we are apart
Remember me
Though I have to travel far
Remember me
Each time you hear a sad guitar
Know that I'm with you
The only way that I can be
Until you're in my arms again
Remember me"
After their visit at the grave and their picnic on the meadows, Georg brought the children to the theater to see a movie. After that they drove back to the villa to eat lunch and to surprise Martha with a cake prepared by the chef.
They spent the rest of the day watching movies while eating popcorn. Actually they just finished watching Coco.
"What movies do you want to watch, Professor Georg?" Martha asked.
"Well it depends on what you have." Georg said, Elisabeth stood up and took a cd of something Georg is quite familiar with.
"Isn't that your favorite Lis?" Martha asked.
Elisabeth shook her head as she placed the cd on the player, "It's father's favorite. I just realized you haven't got a chance to watch it yet, Martha."
"What movie is it?" Frederick asked as his twin sat beside him.
"The Sound of Music." she whispered as the movie started.
