Georg tossed and turned on his bed as he found himself restless and unable to find sleep after a long day of chaos, party, keeping out of trouble and driving non-stop for an hour from London to Oxford and for four hours from Oxford to Norwich because Max had to chase his love.
Georg honestly has no idea why he has to drive back to the Johanson Villa after a very long day. He already told Maria while at the party that he might stay at London or his apartment at Oxford for the night and just drive back to Norwich in the morning. He also has no idea why he should explain himself twice, one for staying at Oxford and another for staying at the Villa instead.
He's not even a permanent employer and he's not even doing a job at the moment.
Groaning in frustration, he got up in bed and took his dressing gown to lessen his slight shivering. Looking at the digital clock on his bedside table, he groaned again.
3:46 a.m
It's too early for anyone to be up, he thought and decided to get some tea from the kitchens.
Looking at Max who's sleeping peacefully on the guest bed, he shook his head and silently cursed his long time friend.
Damn you and your lovesick traits… I shouldn't agreed on driving you here, he mused as he left his room.
His room.
In a matter of days, he'll be gone in this house and probably never come back.
In a span of twenty-four hours, Georg can't believe that he realized his stupid decision to let himself fall easily and let his stupid self believe that he's done making stupid decisions when an hour after that, he's making another stupid decision by talking to Erwin Sinn and making arrangements so that he will be able to teach at a naval academy back to his homeland right after he pay for his debts.
It didn't help that he felt so guilty right after speaking to Erwin. It only made him see himself as a much stupid person for putting a time limit on his stay in England, on his time with Maria and the children.
He have to agree to Max that he found himself more fond of children than he used to before he become a teacher, but he found himself more fond a certain single mother.
Don't be silly Georg… he thought as he carefully descended down the stairs, Those feelings are more than fondness…
Letting a silent groan as he tried to protest to himself, Georg knew deep down the feelings are not just fondness but love.
And they're not mutual… he bitterly mused and opened the door that would lead to the stairs down the kitchens.
Almost missing the last step as he was still preoccupied on thinking why did he felt so guilty while also thinking how is he supposed to say farewell to the children while also thinking how to to do it on Maria and why is he thinking of saying goodbye to people that he just met almost a month ago, he let out an audible yelp that echoes to the narrow hall.
Gripping the railings as he successfully avoided slipping, he let out a relief sigh and jumped slightly when the kitchen door suddenly opened, revealing Maria on her dressing gown as well, a candle holder on her other hand as she also let a relief sigh when she saw him.
Seems she's actually expecting to see a burglar
"Uh- good eve- morning! Geog.." Maria smiled as she looked at him while placing the candle holder back to the tall cabinet beside her, "Up early?"
"Can't sleep.." Georg said as he can't help himself but to smile back, "Up early?"
Raising an eyebrow as Maria opened her mouth to answer, her voice was halted by a whistling kettle as she looked back at him and chortled, "Can't sleep too…"
They looked at each other and smiled until Maria's face went slightly displeased to the violent whistling behind them. She looked at it annoyingly before giving Georg a genuine and blushing smile, "Want some tea? Scones? Cookies?"
"Just tea… and perhaps some cookies." Georg said as he entered the room.
Maria rushed to shushed the kettle as she took another tea cup and another bag. Georg sat on the stool and watched her with admiration as she make their tea.
How can she have so much elegance that I can't stop staring at her even when she's just making tea… he thought, watching her carefully pour the hot liquid. Looking at her eyes as he found something bizarre on it, She looked distressed.
"What's bothering you…"
Maria snapped her head up when she heard his voice. So sonorous and…. wistful like she'd never heard it before.
She always liked his monotonous and authoritative teaching voice and his dulcet and humble tone but she found the latest tone, regardless of what he said, so admirable and… somehow seductive.
Feeling hot literally and figuratively, she silently yelped at the kettle that made slight contact with her wrist and placed it back down to the stove.
"Are you alright?" Georg immediately stood and went beside her as she hissed at the pain that surrounds her right wrist.
Looking at his concerned gaze, if it isn't for her excruciatingly intolerable burn she would stare deeply into his eyes. Too bad she didn't learn how to say 'the burn is fine' when it's agonizing.
"Cold water.." she said, hoping her voice didn't crack as he rolled the sleeve of his silk dressing gown and opened the tap.
She rolled hers as well, careful with the affected area and held it in the cool liquid.
"I'm very sorry.." Georg mumbled as he looked at her burn.
"Don't be sorry for my carelessness," Maria tittered, "Anyways, uh- what is it… that you said?"
Georg looked at her and shook his head relentlessly, "It's nothing… totally something that's… none of my business."
Maria raised her eyebrows, "Surely that's not that bad or insulting."
"It's a personal question." he mumbled.
Looking at him playfully, Maria chuckled, "Weeks ago, you answered my very personal questions about you…. about your past in the navy and how you become a teacher… I'm sure it'll be fair if I answer yours as well."
"I thought you're doing a background check on me." Georg muttered.
"Helena brought you to me- I mean.. to my children.. That's enough to make me believe your clear background. I am- was… well… am… curious about you." Maria smiled, "As a matter of fact, you are a very interesting man… unlike the others that I've met. I mean- interesting educator."
Georg opened his mouth and closed it again as he just nodded.
"So…" Maria looked at him, "What is it?"
"It's-" Georg halted when he felt something dripping on his feet, "-the sink is full."
Maria looked confused at the moment before she also felt the dripping and quickly dive her right hand to take out the stopper.
"Oh.. damn it." Maria spitted as she looked for somewhere to wipe her wet hand and wet burned wrist. Closing the faucet, Maria felt relieved when Georg handed her a towel and an aloe vera.
"I can't find the antibiotic ointment." he mumbled.
Maria dried her hands and carefully dabbed the towel on her wrist as they sat on the stool, "Well… it's very rare for someone to idiotically burn themselves."
"It's also idiotic of someone to distract a person who's holding a hundred degree kettle so… I took the blame." Georg said as he opened the container, "And please let me help you heal that."
Looking at him, Maria can't give him any readable reaction for she's processing the thought of him rubbing a cool gel in her wrist. An action that includes physical contact and-
"Tea.." she suddenly blurted, "And cookie… Let's let the burn dry first. It's still humid with all the water and my throat is… really longing for tea… and cookies."
Georg looked at the wrist and slowly nodded as he stood up, "Then I shall prepare it for us."
"Yeah… us.." Maria silently echoed as she watched him take the tea cups to the island and squeezed the tea bags.
"So what's-"
"How do you-"
Maria and Georg looked at each other and eventually burst in chuckles as Maria turned her attention to the cup and then back to him, "With milk, no sugar. Now.. what's the question?"
Making her tea, Georg regained his composure and looked at her, "Can I change it?"
"Now that you asked it. No." Maria said, "What is it really, Georg?"
Georg let out a sigh as he made his blend, "I- well you looked bothered."
"And?" Maria asked, as she waited for him to say the question. She already know what it is but she wants to hear it for herself.
Who knows the next question could be… Am I sick? Do I have problems? she thought, feeling a bit foolish for defending herself to nobody.
"And… well.. what's bothering you?" he asked as he stirred their tea, "I know it's a very-"
"It's about schooling the children," Maria mumbled, "Specifically the twins."
Looking at him, she stare into his eyes as he handed her the tea, "Have you thought about the... proposition yet?"
Staring back at her, Georg took a sip at his tea. He wanted to believe her that her reasons are the reasons but something inside of him pulls a string that says it's not. Like she's not being fully honest to what she said to him and Georg felt himself go nuts for thinking such things.
Like as if you're hoping yourself to be the reason why she's bothered? You're such a foolish creature Georg, he scolded himself.
Feeling the hot steam and liquid penetrate his senses, Georg came back to reality as he straightly swallowed the hot tea. Her question registering in his mind.
"Actually," he started, "That's one of the reasons why I can't sleep either. The proposition- I mean."
"Oh really?" Maria asked.
Oh really…. she echoed in her mind, Why did you sound so awfully disappointed Maria? Of course that's what must have kept him up. What else...
Not wanting to make herself think more further about his reasons, Maria barely made it thanks to the hot and delicious tea keeping her at the bay while his words took all of her attention.
"I actually came across a friend who works at a naval academy…. back in Austria. As much as I enjoyed staying here in this lovely country, I would like to go back to my homeland where I originally came from." Looking at Maria, Georg watched her face slowly change from alerted but sleepy to a sad one, with a slight hint of something in her eyes that quickly dissipated with a blink.
"And I would like to thank you," he slowly continued, "If it isn't for your generous pay at this job, I wouldn't be able to be back on my track. I may not be able to come back as a Linienschiffsleutnant of the submarine or be able to run a ship or any water transport, I'll be back as an educator for future sailors."
Unconsciously stretching her right hand as she took a hold to his, Georg felt all the pain pour over his body when their skin met. Looking at her eyes, she smiled and whispered, "I'm happy that I've finally done something for you."
Her smile didn't reach her eyes, he may be a fool but he knows a smile when he sees it. Either way, her smile is genuine as she brushed her thumb at the back of his hands before stopping after five strokes and quickly pulled it out.
Georg felt no difference when her hands left his sense of touch.
Who am I kidding… he thought, I can feel the despairing agony and guilt of telling her. I can feel the loss of her touch and it will never surpass the toture of hundred bullets. That smile she showed me will hunt me for every second that I live and I'm sure it'll never end because I'm walking on a strange, dangerous lane of falling in love with Maria Rainier.
Maria, quickly realizing her unconscious blunder, looked at her tea, Why did I pull away? Oh why am I asking… I've always done that gesture with Dom. Wake up Maria.. that man is Georg Von Trapp. The man who brought you back to life and the man you'll always have in mind… and heart. He's leaving your life and gave you the answer. He'll be gone for good… miles away from your life.
Looking at her hands, she felt herself ripping into pieces at the glacial feeling piercing through her whole being. Her burnt wrist and hot tea lost its sensation. The tips of her fingers going numb as she can't feel the wood underneath it, just the cold and excruciating emotion that'll run her system soon.
Just like how it did when Dom died.
But you know this is painful… Maria grimly told herself, You feel this and yet no one died. It's slowly creeping from your chest, the anguish of losing someone who is not dead….. someone who is never yours and never will be. He'll leave this place and soon find someone. While you'll hide behind your children, enjoying your gain thanks to him who's your loss and your suffering. He restored the piece Dom took down to the grave. Now he'll take that piece away with him. And you'll never feel the same way ever again.
Feeling herself tremble with the thought of not being whole again, Maria took an audible swallow as she can't stop herself from trembling.
Lowering her head as she blink away the tears that threatened to leave her eyes, I won't cry… she repeatedly thought, ….not in front of him.
Georg, still staring at her, held her hands that quickly calmed down. Maria felt his warmth took all the numbness away. And for seconds, she can feel her injured wrist and the hot tea again. Blinking as she suddenly felt so humid, she realized that she's sweating…. and that teardrops have left her watery eyes.
Looking at the tea as she felt the steam enter her nostrils, tickling her sense of smell in the most melancholic way. She looked at her hands, covered with his rough yet soft ones.
Her heart skipping a beat as he massaged it. Taking a seem to be audible swallow again, she looked at him. At his black orbs that spoke his worries and concerns.
Trying to answer his unspoken question with a smile, Maria can't even fool herself. How is she to fool him when she knew her smile meant everything but fine.
He just told her that he's planning to leave and she can't hold herself back for just seconds. How is she to help the children move on when she herself can't. She can't lock herself away like how she did for the past five years.
Looking at his eyes, again… she knew her own exposes herself to him. She wondered if he can see right through her. Can he see her silent distress? Can he feel her quiet plea?
I'll never live the same way once you leave, she thought, Don't leave me…
Then all of a sudden, her senses go numb for a millisecond before she unconsciously closed her eyes.
She can see black but she can also see the scenery that they made.
The smell of tea left her, replaced by the strong, misty and manly smell that made her crave for more.
His hands that held hers shot warmth around her body, and adrenaline rushed through her veins as his soft and warm lips touched hers.
Georg felt his heart beat faster like never before, his hormones getting livelier like never before and his body going closer to her like never before.
For seconds, she opened her eyes and backed away. Expecting a slap, he waited for the impact that never came back.
But Maria looked at him in the eye and took a deep breath, then her hand left his and cupped his cheeks with the other one as she stood up and kissed him.
Sitting stiff for a moment, Georg regained his senses and kissed her back. His arms wrapping around her waist as he held her closer to him. His hands exploring her figure and he closed his eyes.
It's been years since he kissed a woman on the lips, not to mention, lovingly and intimately. And if this is a dream, Georg would kill Max if he woke him up.
Wanting to feel more, Georg teased her lips with the tip of his tongue, asking for entrance which she granted.
He can taste her tea and some hint of honey as he explore her mouth. Feeling her vibrate as he heard the most lascivious tone he heard from a woman.
He heard a response and felt a vibration on his throat and can't believe that the response is from him.
The thought quickly dissipated his mind as she stepped closer and fought for dominance, her hand sliding from his left cheek to his Adam's apple down to his chest while the other one traced the lines of his jaw.
His hand traveled from her back to her hips then up to the nape of her neck as his other arm stayed around her waist.
She took another step and moaned louder as he felt himself responded uncontrollably. Pouring all the emotions he felt as her hand traced the lines of his dressing gown, then suddenly sliding it underneath. Massaging his chest as he felt everything disappear and just twirl.
His hand cupped her chest as he felt her retreat, he also felt himself in need of air as they both gasped.
Opening her eyes, Maria saw Georg opened his and stare at her. After five good breaths, they both closed their eyes and their lips met again.
Backing away and sharing more short and long kisses, Maria soon found her arms around his neck and herself straddling him. His arms around her waist as she whimper, whisper and moan his name countless of times between kisses.
Georg felt himself groan after a long, passionate kiss. Resting his forehead against hers, he mumbled, "Oh I don't remember anymore."
"You look so adorable," Maria smiled, "Your face is all red."
"Is it?" Georg asked as her hands cupped his cheeks, "It's been a while since I've kissed someone."
"Really?" Maria asked, curious and unbelieving, "I thought you're, or at least had been, with Elsa."
Georg raised his eyebrows, "Elsa? No… She's the nicer woman version of Max. Always keeps me around the land of living and in a way became my savior. She slapped me back to reality and I'm glad she did or else she and Max must be on each other's neck now."
Chuckling as she traced his lips, she whispered, "Much like what you did on me. And I'm glad that you did or else I'm still in a world that's disappearing, I'm afraid. No one could bring me back to the world but you."
Smiling at her, Georg reached out to take the aloe vera gel and held her burnt wrist, "How about you?" he asked as he rubbed the cool gel to her warm wrist, holding her hand as she automatically tighten her legs around him.
Maria looked at him while he aided her wrist and smiled, "It's been six years since I kissed someone."
"Six?" he asked, looking from her wrist to her eyes as he continued caressing her skin.
"Dominik's lips swelled due to allergy after his business trip to Germany a two years before he passed. It got worse for every contact so we refrained each other on physical activities. But the silver ware still triggers his allergy so it didn't left and stung him. One year passed and we did nothing but chat and just chat. A year passed and he felt so guilty Martha happened without oral contact.." looking at Georg who seemed to be curious, she continued, "That's the last night we shared because he went straight on a business trip. The night Martha entered this world…. he was… accidentally shot in front of the hospital."
Georg felt the need to comfort her and he hugged her. She buried her head on his neck as she inhaled his calming scent. The tea, cookies and aiding gel forgotten as they held each other.
"I am very sorry," he whispered as he rested his arms around her, his hands massaging his scalp, "I- I shouldn't have…"
"Shouldn't have what?" Maria asked as she lifted her head, meeting his anxious gaze, "Tell me, Georg…. Do you regret what happened?"
Looking at her questioning eyes, Georg found one of his hands cupping her cheeks and brushing away the imaginary things, "Why would I?"
"I'm your employer," Maria started, "And you're making plans to be back on your track. You'll soon leave and… I'll be back to… my life."
"Tell me, Maria…" Georg mumbled, "Is that what you want? Do you want me to continue planning a future away from you? After I kissed you just minutes ago… Do you want me to just ignore the fact that I have my employer… my Maria… sitting on my lap, her face inches towards me? Do you regret what happened?"
"No." Maria breathed, as she shook her head, "Nothing will ever be the same once you are away. And it'll be all wrong again after you leave."
Looking at him, she continued, "I never experienced such torment in my life. I- I need you to stay, Georg. I need you in my life."
Taking a deep breath, Georg hugged her and kissed her forehead as his hand brushed away the set of tears that left her eyes.
"I- I'm afraid I'm being too possessive of what I never have. You're gonna have your life back, Georg, and this…." Maria registered to herself as she forced a chipped smile, "This needy… bossy… cold… aging.. woman is selfish enough to beg you to stay. To stop you from having the life you always wanted."
"That needy bossy cold aging woman is a wonderful caring strict loving youthful charming and elegant woman who experienced a lot of obstacles in her life… yet she managed to run tons of establishments and raise three lovely children. She deserves all the good things the world has to offer." Georg said as he kissed the tip of her nose, "You're not stopping me from having the life I always wanted. Because all I wanted now is to be with you. I don't care if you're my employer… I need you in my life too, Maria."
The two of them were enveloped in a warm, comforting embrace as Maria suddenly started humming. Georg enjoyed the sensational feeling his senses are having at the moment he started humming along with her.
"Sing it…" he unconsciously mumbled.
She didn't hesitate as she slowly sang.
Remember those walls I built?
Well, baby they're tumbling down
Maria looked at him and smiled, kissing his forehead and she continued.
And they didn't even put up a fight
They didn't even make a sound
Kissing the tip of her nose, she looked at him again and raised her eyebrows.
Georg looked at her as well, her eyes giving him that challenge look he knew he couldn't resist. His eyes not leaving hers, he sung the next lines with the same tempo as hers.
I found a way to let you in
But I never really had a doubt
Mirroring her gestures, he kissed her forehead and carried on.
Standing in the light of your halo
I got my angel now
"Gosh your voice is so… amazing, Georg." Maria whispered.
Georg took a peck on her lips and whispered back, "That's not the lyrics, my darling."
Maria felt her breath on her throat as she rested her forehead against his again. Continuing on the same tempo, she sing-speak.
It's like I've been awakened
Every rule I had you breakin'
Cupping her cheeks with her hands, she closed her eyes and heard him continue.
It's the risk that I'm taking
I ain't never gonna shut you out!
Georg rested his hands to her hips as he closed his eyes. Even in his lack of sight, he knew she's smiling as she continued.
Everywhere I'm looking now
I'm surrounded by your embrace
Baby, I can see your halo
You know you're my saving grace
Maria let out the last note in a sigh of relief as rested in her position. Georg took it as a cue and sung without missing a beat.
You're everything I need and more
It's written all over your face
Darling, I can feel your halo
Pray it won't fade away
Georg can feel her smile from his shoulders as he continued, loving every faint response and attempts of voice blending as they held each other.
Halo (halo) Halo..
I can feel you halo (halo)
Halo.
Halo… I can feel you halo (halo)
Maria lifted her head as she sung with him. Her hands caressing his skin as she tried to memorize every single things about him.
Halo.. ooh. ooh…
They stared into each other's eyes as they both leaned in and enjoyed the warm, wet, wild, passionate, pleasant, perfect kiss.
Backing her head away, Maria placed a hand up as her fingers traced his swollen lips. She looked at it and can't help to imagine her own, just as swollen as his.
Her eyes traveled from his lips to his eyes and she asked, "Why me?"
"Because," Georg said as he held her tighter, "You're not like the other women I met. I could tell you anything about me or what was on my mind and I wouldn't be judged or pitied. I -well this might sound creepy but- I found you quite endearing and I… crave… for moments with you… more often than I could imagine myself to crave for something that is so attractive and addictive and so attentive all the time."
"I would hardly call myself always attentive. Attractive maybe, since Margaretta always pointed out a mere fact that tons of people look at me wherever we go. Addictive…. Mmhm it's been a long time since I heard someone call me that." Maria smiled as she leaned to kiss him again.
Georg groaned at her moans as his hands caressed her hips, one of them lowering on her thighs.
Suddenly hearing something out of their world, he and Maria backed away. Maria standing up and so as he. Both their eyes fixed on the closed door and they exchanged looks.
He's sure he heard it close. But he did close it when he entered the kitchens.
Maria looked back at the door with eyes filled with mixed expressions. Did someone saw them? What if it's one of the children? What time is it anyway?
As if reading her mind, the both looked at the clock hanging above the door and read it.
4:00 am
"It's too early for someone to wake up at this time." Maria said, unconsciously yawning.
Georg nodded then looked at her, "But never too late for someone to chase some sleep."
Maria looked at him and met his kiss as he cupped her blushing cheeks.
"You need sleep," he said as he pulled away, "Don't worry about the children's schooling. Wherever they go… I'm sure they'll do a lot of fun and learning."
Hugging her as he kissed her forehead, he tried to stifle his yawn. Maria chuckled as said, "You need sleep too, my darling. You've been driving for five hours and your eyebags are growing."
"Eyebags are normal for someone in my profession." Georg mumbled as his eyes reached the growing bugs under his eyes.
Maria shook her head smiling as she touched his hands and kissed both small bumps, "The thing is… you're on a holiday, Georg. Catch your sleep."
Georg only nodded as they broke their embrace and cleared up. Closing the lights, the two silently walked through halls hand in hand.
No sound was heard but their breathing and muffled steps. Once they've reached the way where they'll part, Maria looked around and threw herself at him. Her lips met his as she tried to silence her moans.
"I swear if I woke up realizing all of these is a dream… I don't know anymore." Maria whispered as she looked at Georg who smiled and dug his hands to his pockets.
Taking out a pendant he opened it and placed it around her neck, "I was supposed to give this to you days ago…"
Looking down at her neck, Maria stared at the heart shaped resin pendant with white and red petals pressed inside.
"Those are edelweiss and rose petals," Georg said as he looked at her, "Or at least that's what the antique store owner said."
Smiling as she looked at him, Maria took something from her pockets and took his hand. Giving him the small thing and closing his hand.
"I also have one thing for you… open it once you're inside your room." Maria smiled as she gave him a kiss.
Looking at his fist, Geog smiled at her as he escorted her to her room.
Reaching the door, Maria turned to him and smiled, "Sleep well."
"Sleep well…" Georg echoed as she disappeared behind her door. He made his way back to his room and saw Max nowhere in sight.
Sitting on his bed, he opened his palm and saw a copper guitar pick with a small message engraved on it.
G. vT,
raWr
xoxo,
M.R
Smiling as he fidgeted the pick on his hands he placed it on the bedside table, beside the watch and the phone that are also from Maria.
Maria….
Georg's head hit the pillows and smiled.
If this is a dream, he thought, I will certainly kill Max for bringing me back here…
