Coming for the next generation

One of my own :). *6x02 spoilers!* based on the EQ meeting Emma for the first time.

Snow didn't turn around when she heard a car approaching, then the door opening and closing. She knew that Emma was coming down to see how she was getting on.

"Still no joy?" Emma asked. Snow shook her head, frowning up at the invisible barrier. She had been trying various potions Blue had given her to try and rid the town of the barrier.

"Nothing." Snow answered her. Emma sighed. There was always something. Emma rolled up the sleeves of her jumper.

"Well, I'll give it another shot then." Emma said. She had already tried using her magic to destroy the invisible wall, but to no avail.

Suddenly, Snow and Emma heard someone chuckling behind them.

"Well this ought to be good." A cool voice called out gleefully. Snow and Emma turned round to see the Evil Queen. Snow swiftly stood in front of Emma.

"Mom…" Emma said, trying to pull her mom to the side. Emma had magic, her mom did not. Snow, however, didn't budge.

"It's alright, Emma." Snow said calmly, looking the Evil Queen in the eye. "She knows I'm not scared of her." The Evil Queen just smiled at Snow, keeping her distance.

"You're not frightened of me, Snow White. That much is true. However," The Evil Queen looked past Snow to Emma. "You are scared of what I might do to her." There was a slight flash of anger in Snow's eyes, but other than that, she showed no sign that the Evil Queen had gotten to her. She kept a cool stance, her hands in her jacket pockets, shaking her head.

"No, I'm not." Snow answered her. "Because you'll never get close enough for me to have to worry." The Evil Queen chuckled again. Did Snow really still doubt how well prepared she was?

"I don't need to be close though, do I Emma?" The Evil Queen asked. Emma and Snow both looked at her confused. "The people from the Land of Untold Stories aren't the only ones who have tales they don't want to play out." The Evil Queen snapped her fingers. A slight ringing sound played out. Snow didn't understand. Sure, the sound was slightly irritating, but couldn't do any harm. But when she turned round to see if Emma knew what she was doing, she saw that Emma's hands were tremoring.

"Emma!" Snow said, panicking. She shot the Evil Queen a glare. "What did you do to her?"

"Oh I did nothing." The Evil Queen answered. "I just had a little chat with Mister Hyde." Emma growled at the Evil Queen. Her mom didn't have to know. "The real question is, Snow White, while your daughter is here, incapacitated, it takes me two seconds to go after your son. Which one are you going to aid?" Snow knew that the Evil Queen was trying to tear her family apart, but she wasn't going to fall for it.

"Go mom." Emma said, as she tried (and failed) to create a ball of energy with her magic. "I can hold her off. Get Neal."

"Neal's fine Emma. He's with your father." Snow answered her daughter calmly. "Did you really think Charming and I would leave either of them alone for any length of time when you were on the loose? We know you, we know you'd want to hurt them. You might think you're a step ahead of us, but we've played this game before. You're done hurting my family."

"Or so you think." The Evil Queen answered sharply. "You and your Prince Charming can't be around to watch their backs forever. You'll slip up. That's when I'll be there." Then, with a cloud of purple smoke, she vanished. Snow turned her attention back to Emma.

"I thought she'd taunt you sooner or later." Snow said grimly. She checked Emma over. By this point, her hands had stopped shaking. "You ok?" Emma nodded. "What did she do to your hands?" Emma shrugged.

"Must have been some magic I guess." She lied, not able to look at her mom. Snow nodded, but didn't entirely believe Emma. But that was an issue for later. Right now, they had to focus all their energy on stopping Hyde and the Evil Queen. As well as any other villains he'd brought with him.
