So here's an interesting idea I had that would love to see start a new fanfic type out in the world
The main character(s) wake up in a building with no way out, filled with endless corridors that one could get lost in. However, the only rooms in this building are unique to each individual. As in, they only exist for each individual. And the rooms are what they've ever wished for. Memory imprints of people can appear in them too.
Examples:
- what kid hasn't wished for a room full of candy/toys?
- to bake in the kitchen with grandma again after she passes away
- that one person that makes you so angry that you wish it was just you and them in a room together so you could teach them a lesson
- or that person you'd totally love to be alone with ;)
- who hasn't wished to crawl into a hole in embarrassment, make a room for that too
- if they have a trauma, could have a room representing it in there too (because they wish to be out of that room, but start in it to begin with? I don't know)
Because of it being a building, let other characters be included and have them vanish into blank walls that would be their rooms. Let them be able to duplicate any item from their rooms, but unable to with items they traded for. This would give them some sort of barter system so they can get unique things. Maybe allow them to invite others into their rooms? But only if they stay in said room with them. If they leave their room, the invited person gets kicked out too.
There could be multiple buildings, but how you sort the characters could be interesting. Has crossover potential if you so choose.
Could sort by:
- universe/world
- personality (I can just picture the chaos of a building full of pranksters)
- Ability/powers (Shapeshifters, magic users, etc.)
- heroes or prophecy targeted
- Family (blood or chosen)
I picture this scenario to be some sort of afterlife, but you could have it be a ROB or whatever. Try to be flexible with what is considered a 'room', for example, if it's a trunk or box that's bigger on the inside, would you consider this movable object a room?
After putting this all down it sounds kinda like a twist on the mindscape stories out there, but figured I'd put it out there anyway in case this inspires someone.
