Light. Bright blinding light that cut through the darkness of my mind. I shielded my gaze from its harsh blare, this dream was different...I blinked rapidly to adjust my eyes and saw someone standing in the center of the light. It was a woman. She wore a pure white dress that sparkled like snow in the sunlight on a winter morning. Long silver and gold hair flowed down from her head and down her back like the waves of the west.
"Who are you?" I asked, the woman turned her head slightly toward me.
"I am Galadriel…" a voice, pure and low spoken. Before I could get a better look at her, images flashed in my mind.
Freyr…
He was running along the bank of the river. The river I had fallen in three months ago. He was calling my name.
"Freyr!" I called out in my dream, hoping he would hear me.
He didn't.
He just ran alongside the bank until the vision faded and the woman in white stood before me.
Her face was kind yet regal, mysterious and wise. Her golden, silver hair flowed in a phantom wind around her head as if she were submerged in water.
"Daughter of the Dúnedain…" she murmured, "I have heard of your incredible story...and of your troubles…"
"My brother," I demanded, "my father, are they...are they alive?"
The woman's face grew sorrowful.
"Your father was slain child, I am deeply sorry for your loss. Your brother, however, still lives. He dwells in the North with the rest of your people."
I bowed my head, looking down I was still wearing my traveling gear. Only in dreams, I could still see. This dream was much better than the others I had when it came to sight.
"Do not despair child," Galadriel spoke, raising my head with her soft gentle hand. It seemed so real that I could feel her. She smiled down at me with an almost motherly expression.
I remember only little bits and pieces of my own mother.
She smiled the same way this lady in white did.
Galadriel placed her thumbs over my eyes and then rested her forehead against mine.
"For your loyalty, brave Shyra of the Dúnedain, I give you this gift. Your sight has vanished like the last traces of fall when it succumbs to winter. However, with this gift, you will be able to tread through the darkness with ease and see things others cannot. Use this to guide yourself and others through the long night that is upon us…"
