A/N:
This little gem was my story that I donated to the Austrian Fires Comp. I really enjoyed writing it and working with the Lovely Black Butterfly as she worked her magic maing this work better! My words are never complete without you! My fabulous banner maker and pereader mariescullen, it was a pleasure to work with you again at the last minute! Your banner making skills are AMAZING! My Izzy Nava. Thank you for helping me not jump off of the writers falls!
For the women who worked hard on the Comp itself, woeds can't express what lessons I learned through that expierence. We know what to do for next time!
Enjoy!
Love-
Brier

Chapter One
If you had told me a year ago I would be at the airport today, saying goodbye to the girl that I spent the last three years of my life with, I'd have thought that you were out of your damn mind. But, here I am, doing just that.
As I look at my gold pocket watch that my Grandma Masen got me for my twenty-first birthday, I am debating. Am I making the right choice for my life? Or for Tanya's for that matter; for our futures? As I rub the Cullen and Masen crests that Grandma put on each side of the watch, I am getting anxious.
"Edward, are you sure you want to do this? You can change your mind. We can go back home and get your old job back. Daddy understands that you might need to chase your dreams, but this is stupid. We have a family. You are letting us down! What would your sons say?" Tanya is trying to gain public support for her side. Game on bitch.
Our family. A damn family that consists of her, me, two Japanese fighting fish in separate tanks that I take care of, and her family. My family is allowed in the background and to pay for things, but, not good enough to spend time with. Thankfully, we are not having kids. Or so Tanya says.
"Well, thank you for letting me know that I have a family. One that I am not allowed to see with you. I need to do this for me. If you don't want to support me, that is fine, Tan. But, I have supported you through many things that I would rather not have." I look away from her and see the shock in another nearby woman's eyes. "And as for our sons? You mean your Fighting Fish? Our sons? I did not know that I had children. Watson and Wilson are great. Do you even know which one is which Tan?" I look over to her and the woman listening comes closer.
"Ma'am? Would you like to see my sons?" The woman in question looks startled, but nods.
"Then come here. I have a picture of them. I am glad I took these pictures.
"Japanese Fighting Fish or Betta Fish don't need a lot of space. What they lack in space needed, they make up in the fact that two males can't be together or they will kill each other. I gave each of the boys their own five-gallon tank. Each one is on the kitchen counter on opposite ends of the counter. I put some bamboo in the tanks and the boys love it! Now, hun, which one is which?" I show her a picture of the two tanks side by side. One had a red one and the other a blue one.
"Does it really matter, Eddie? We know who they are!" Tanya does not have a clue. The other woman walked away trying not to laugh.
"I was going to give you an ear full for abandoning your family. But, if she does not know the names of the fish that you have, you might have lucked out hun. Follow your dreams and forget this girl. You can tell those fish are well cared for, and if you want them alive, try to find someone willing to care for them while you're gone." I laughed since I already did.
"My parents already have custody of Watson and Wilson. They have been with them for over a week. They wanted a pet and this was perfect for them since they realized they weren't up for cats or dogs. Watson is red and Wilson is blue." I laugh at myself.
Somewhere amid her overly botoxed face, there were some emotions. While hard for the average person walking by to read, I knew her well enough to see. The slight rise of the right eyebrow means that she is confused. The deer in the headlight look means that she does not believe what is happening and is in denial. Last but certainly not least, one single line on her forehead is telling me that she is pissed. It helps to add that she is clenching her fists.
I was right since she didn't even realize that her "sons" were gone.
"Your parents should not have the boys! They will not take care of them!" She screeches.
"You think that one of the top pediatricians in the country and his wife, the daughter of a retired veterinarian, who just so happens to be a nurse, can't care for two fish? Please, Tanya!" I say to her, flabbergasted, as I put my phone away and grab my bags. "I think that this is the end for us, Tanya. I really hope that you have a good time figuring out your life since I will not be involved." I walk towards the TSA agents and get in line. The woman follows me and laughs.
"Thank you for that. That really made my day. Is your father Doctor Cullen?" She asks.
"Yes, ma'am. I am his son Edward." I put my hand out for her to shake my hand.
"Renee Dwyer. Your father saved my daughter, Isabella, several years ago. We went to several doctors to find out what was wrong with her and everyone thought that she made up the symptoms. She had a severe vitamin deficiency. A few changes and she is a different girl! I will forever be grateful for him." I smile. I love hearing happy stories of my father's patients. Or former ones.
"I am glad that your daughter is doing so well. I will tell him that you said hi next time we talk." I smiled back at Renee and it was my turn to go through the joy of being manhandled by the all too willing to grope attendant. When they are finally through with their groping, I got my stuff and headed towards the terminal to my new life in Nashville, Tennessee.
