Hello friends!
Awhile back, I had read the story "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Sailor" by, pussycatwithattitude. The end line in the story struck me and left me wanting more (as I am sure it did for most of you who read it). The line goes, "Then he turned away, and began walking down the road, away from sight, not knowing that when he returned thirteen months later, they would share a daughter."
Disclaimer: I own nothing, just toying with the characters and plot line.
Please enjoy! xx
After a long thirteen months of being deployed at sea, I am finally able to go home to my Maria.
Our communication has been rather sparse these past six months, so I haven't had the chance to write her and tell her that I was discharged from the Navy and coming home. I had wished that our communication was more frequent, but I had. been busy climbing the ranks to Captain, conduction several successful missions, and recovering from an injury that was sustained during an enemy attack.
The attack was sudden and surprised our whole ship. A plane had flown over our ship and dropped a small bomb on us. While the bomb was small, the damage done to the ship, was enough to tear a rather large and gaping hole in the hull. The tear was severe to the point that the ship had started to sink.
Just as the bomb hit the hull, I dove for my crew mate who was in the line of flying shrapnel. I tackled him so that the shrapnel didn't hit him because if it would have hit him, he could have died. However, during the process of trying to save him, a different piece of shrapnel hit me in the face.
Initially, I felt no pain at all. However, when I helped my crew mate swim to shore, my adrenaline wore off. In a matter of minutes after reaching shore, I was rushed to the nearest hospital. The injury I sustained was a long gash that began above my right eyebrow, and ran several inches to the corner of my mouth. To repair it, they sutured it with 11 stitches and put an antiseptic ointment on it. To protect it from everything, they covered it with an eye patch type of bandage. The gash didn't hit my eye directly, but it hit a few of the surrounding nerves and left me partially blind. Before I left the hospital, they warned me to be careful due to the high possibility of me going completely blind in the future.
To hear something like that, was nothing short of devastating. Although it was devastating, it was worth it because I saved a life. The life of my best friend Max. My one main concern was whether or not Maria will still accept me and the fact that I now have a huge scar and am almost blind in one eye. I suppose I'll find out when I arrive home.
I walked down the crooked drive that led to the small two story cottage that Maria called home. I haven't seen her in a little over a year and I was more than excited to see her. After the enemy attack, I wasn't so sure that I'd make it back to her. I thought I was going to die, and thankfully I didn't.
With a duffle bag slung over my shoulder, and a bouquet of roses and edelweiss held behind my back, I quietly opened the front door. As I entered the house, I seen Maria in the kitchen washing something that looked like a baby bottle. I thought that it was strange for her to be washing a bottle. However, I paid no mind to it, as I silently set my bag down and walked to where Maria was standing.
Wrapping my free arm around her waist, I kissed her neck and whispered, "I am home, love."
Maria spun around gasping in surprise, "Georg! You're back!"
"Yes, and here to stay. Let me quick put these flowers I have in some water and then I will give you a proper hello."
When I returned from putting the bouquet into water, I stood in front of Maria and pulled her in close for a very passionate kiss. Unfortunately, this kiss was over before we knew it, when a loud cry filled the air.
I pulled away and asked, "Maria, what is that?"
"A baby."
"I figured as much, but who's baby?"
Maria looked at me with tear filled eyes. "I- the- she's yours, Georg."
SURPRISE!
When I had read the original story by pussycatwithattitude, I was left wondering what Georg's reaction would be to having a daughter and how the rest of their story played out. I had sent her a message and asked her if I could write an epilogue of sorts, and this is it! I want to note that I am well aware that not all details are 100% accurate compared to the original story, and that's because this is: a) fanfiction, b) I added my own spin, and c) I am not well versed in the Austrian Navy as I'd like to be (I did do a tidbit of googling).
It has taken me almost a year to post this because I wanted to make things perfect. I have no schedule for updating, so forgive me, and stay tuned please.
Much Love,
Ashley xx
